  • Hi guys!!
    Welcome back to a new video! I hope this was helpful, and as always if you have any questions let me know! Also I use US crochet terminology!
    Here is a link to the crochet hooks I use (not an affiliate link): www.amazon.co....
    And here is a link to the turning stitch technique I learnt from Littlejohn’s Yarn: • Crochet Straight Edges...

    Thank you so much. My mom used to crochet huge afghans for our family, and I decided last night to learn how. She passed away 3 years ago with complications related to her muscular dystrophy. She had trouble with her hands, but when I was young she was still able to crochet. I think it probably helped her dexterity as best she could. Now that I am learning, I am even more impressed with how she was able to do this. Over the years, I have lost the afghan she made me. So I would like to make a new one in her honor! Your video makes me feel like I can do this.

    Perfect! Last night while rummaging through some of my mum's sewing stuff (she doesn't sew any more, so I basically get to take what I might possibly use) I actually found my favourite crochet hook from when I was a kid. When I was around 8 or so I did a fair bit of crocheting, starting with normal yarn and then moving towards thinner threads - and my favourite was a 1.0mm hook that I used for making lace. Yes, I was crocheting lace when I was 8; I was not, as they say, like most boys...
    Anyway, I haven't done any crocheting for three decades, so your video is just what I needed as a refresher on the basic stitches. I might start out with a larger hook, just to get it "into my hands" again before I move on to my tiny little hook, though. No need to be foolhardy!
    So thank you very much for your help.

    finally found a video that goes through the basics! and it was easy to understand and follow as a lefty! double crochet will take some time to figure out, but i'm just glad to be able to do something other than single :D
    other "beginner" videos just blew through how to do the stitches and i was getting frustrated. plus, as a left-handed person, it's tricky sometimes to mentally flip what they're doing in videos. • @emmapcrochet
      @emmapcrochet  3 роки тому +7

      You just have to keep trying with the tension, its probably one of the trickiest things to figure out! Try to make it as loose as you can without it falling off, and once you have the hang of that try tightening it a bit more. And also your hand will get used to the position, but if you find its too uncomfortable for you you can always use a different method of holding the hook! Theres lots of different ways. But the main thing is is to not give up! Youve got thisss💓💓💓💓💓

    I want to second all the thinngs that have been said about this video: It's the best beginner tutorial out there.
    English isn't even my first language (although I am fluent, so not to say that this is going to be the case for everyone), and I could follow this tutorial so much easier than any of the ones in my mothertongue.
    You really do a fantastic job showing the very basics! I found so many tutorials that claim to be for beginners, but start out showing the crochet stitches with the first row already complete and the piece turned over (not that I knew that was what they were doing until I watched this video 😂). Like, I have zero knowledge of crocheting, am I supposed to just magically know how to get from my starting chain to the first row? And how tf do I get from the end of my first row to the start of the second? You explain all of that and it's honestly the only thing that saved me from having to go back to the shop and ask the lady there to show me how to do it!
    Nothing but love for this video! ❤️

    THANK YOU! I have been trying to learn to crochet off and on for about a year. I've watched several videos but they never quite made sense. I've been able to make things but they were never right because, it turns out, I had totally misunderstood the stitches. Yours is the first video that has actually THOROUGHLY explained everything. I think too many other videos have made too many assumptions, whereas you have really carefully explained the minor details that tripped me up over and over.
