The cool thing about this swap is that it’s almost a direct bolt in for m50 powered e34’s. It is the easiest large-ish HP gain while maintaining stock reliability. Are there better swaps? Sure. But they aren’t as easy as this.
S52 is a very easy swap on an e34. It took us to swap my e34 maybe a day an a half. Mine i swapped it to b3 3.3 similar engine. Go a ahed for the supercharger im gonna do it too 😅😅 keep up the good work 💪🏻
Thanks a lot for the video man! Currently working on the same swap for my 95 525i/5 - was a 300k mile runner that I decided was deserving of a new life. I would love to document the build for others, don't know if you have any advice to share for someone who has not done much video work But a quick breakdown of the parts so far 12.5:1 Mahle Motorsports Pistons 278 Cam Set / Solid Lifters S54 ITB Setup Should be a blast I think when its done
That will be sick man!!! But honestly the main thing is just have patience when filming. Patience and be yourself on camera, its easy to get very serious which even I do sometimes
Dude this build would be so sick to see on video. Literally my dream to have S54 ITBs with S52 on a E34. Hope your able to document the build and hope everything goes well
Awesome video, gave me some ideas. I have an E34 wagon that has been sitting in my garage since 2004. I got it from my dad, I drove it from his house in New Hampshire to my house in Illinois, parked it in the garage and haven’t touched it since. Maybe it’s time to get it running again.
Nice! I’m in northern IL, far west burbs. I may hit you up for parts or pick your brain on where I can source some things in the future. I have a pile of stuff already but I’m going to work on getting everything for the conversion to manual trans this winter, I’m keeping the M50 engine. This was my fathers car when I was a kid and got it when he passed away. I have fond memories of it so for sentimental reasons I don’t want to modify it too much. Manual trans, exhaust, wheels and some suspension upgrades. I think that’s all I’m going to do.
Same situation. 1995 525i wagon just sitting... I've gone back and forth on keeping and restoring/building or just selling as the kids seems to want these right now (they finally get it!) and I've seen beat ones on offerup for 8-10K. But the build series on this car has me inspired. Such an epic channel @m3nameisjosh464 keep it up!
Dude I’m so happy I found ur vids . Ur build is exactly what I want to do with my bone stock 525 brand new purchase. U would love some tips for power and swaps etc
Love what you’ve done with this Dude!!! My cure daily is an e46 330i 5 speed, but I’m really wanting to get into a 5 series. I keep waffling back and forth on wether to get an e34 or e39. The e39 would be closer to what I’m used to, but I do love the style of the e34. And it’s way more nostalgic for me as 90’s car. I’ll just have to keep saving, and see what strikes me as right when I’m ready to pull the trigger. Anyway, great vide as always, love seeing what you’re working on. Cheers 🤙
@@marlonbaird6070 nice 👍. I’m leaning toward getting an e39…from having and e46, I’ve got a better starting point knowledge wise on the maintenance. At least for my comfort level. But dang the e34 is a sexy car, just a bit harder to find. Best of luck with yours
I want the civilized, refined straight six / M50 experience ... just with 4.0 liters of displacement ... and a sharp rack & pinion steering feel ... inside the E34 package :D
Josh, I think I have an idea of what your opinion would be, but Where do you stand on LS swaps for these cars? Noticed this community is very hesitant on it, and I only see a few handful documented. Genuinely thinking about it, seeing as mine doesnt need to be a daily and my m20 in the 525i I had has a warped head after I did some troubleshooting. Anyway, keep up the great work man
Appreciate it man! But honestly I don’t see why not. If you have the money, time, and resources to make it work then go for it!!! Unlike many, i dont see swapping in cool motors as “ruining” the car
I might have missed it in your swap video but are you using JUST the obd1 Timing cover mounted CPS? Or did you splice in for the obd2 cps sensor located on the side of the block near rear?
Really informative video. I'm still debating whether to sell my E28 535 and buy an E34 540i or just keep the 28 for the classic look. Anyway it didn't end up having a bad head gasket but it is losing compression somehow. How would you usually go about diagnosing compression loss? It also tends to stall when idling in traffic on a hot day as well, so not sure yet if these issues are connected.
Early 540s, meaning the ones in the E34 and early E39s, have Nikasil problems. Given you have the M30b34 and parts are very plentiful, it'd most likely be more economical to just build the M30
@@trestontape116 thanks for the advice. Problem is I live in Australia where parts most certainly aren't plentiful, and if this is indeed an engine out job I might just look for an E28 in better condition. We'll see.
“I actually haven’t driven this car in a while. I’m excited to take it out for. Spin before winter comes in.” Dude, do you speak in rhymes all the time? 😂😂😂😂 this is like the 15th bar I’ve noticed you laid down.
so i'm going to ask a dumb question. would this be comparable to a stock 535i? Never owned a BMW, but my 535i is arrriving in roughly 2 weeks from interstate transport. i'm so hyped :D hope i don't blow it up in the hot australian weather.
my advice to you is, turn it into a poor mans m5, get some dbilas itbs and some schrick cams 540i maf and 24lb injectors tune it properly and voila i should have around 280.
@@ankrapek12 to my understanding an obd 1 computer can’t understand ITBS, or at least open stacks, if I ran an airbox and 540i maf then possibly, but either way obd 2 would be better
Was literally just driving and cornering my stock 525, and it always puts a smile on my face 😭
As it should!

would I have to upgrade manual trans
The UK E38 were offered with the M52/54, this swap would take one closer to the 740i while retaining the 6cyl feel.
Thanks a lot for the video man!

34 last good BMW front end, special.

Would a S50 US from a 1995 M3 be good as well?
