This is definitely the best and easiest way for removal of the alternator! Thx! Minimal removal of anything unnecessary. I thought that was an old Ford courier in the background lol haven’t seen one of those around forever
Thanks, saved me a lot of time. Defo the right method to pull it out by the front after removing the plastic part below the front harness, removing the stud was the key operation to me + loosing the harness and pulling it while getting the old alternator out (my car is a european version so maybe the engine bay is stuffed slightly differently). Articulated magnet highly recommended to put screws/nuts back in place. Bracket screw in 30s. Not the most painful. The alternator was very hard to remove from the mounts on my car. I had to pull and rotate as strong as I could to get it out little by little. The new one went in place with no effort. Cheers! Eric.
I was like a fish out of sea when I attempted changing my gf’s out. Luckily, a nice bystander noticed my troubles, stopped by, and did all of the magic for me for a small fee (forced upon him, he would not accept lol ). Awesome video, Dave! And outstanding job, sir!
breck17 so glad you got the issue handled and that someone took you out of a worrisome situation. I appreciate the kind words and hope you guys have a fantastic day.
Removing only the cover of the ECU box gets you ~1/2” extra room, then use your left hand, reaching with your palm toward the engine, to reach under the exhaust manifold and feel the forward manifold bolt and the alternator bracket stud just below and behind it. Now work your right hand holding your 12mm socket and 4” extension past the exhaust manifold and pass it to your left hand guiding the socket onto the nut. Square up the socket / extension and carefully extricate your hands and work your ratchet onto the end of the extension and rotate the nut most of the way off, leaving the last turn for the magnet.
Hi can you answer my questions please. Two things. My 2007 Lexus IS250 1. my cigarettes lighter the front doesn’t have power the second cigarette lighter it’s working. I check all the fuses and replace them and still don’t have power. 2. MULTI-DISPLAY doesn’t show anything’s all. Everything’s working except the display. The little LCD. Can you answer what’s the problems ? Thanks
Michael Apila Hi there the cigarette lighter sounds like it has lost its ground as for the LCD screen google bad quite often for the cigarette lighter you can provide your own ground or check for ohms reading on the wire I hope that helps
Mechanic Dave So should I get a new LEXUS OEM FACTORY CIGARETTE LIGHTER ASSY? It’s that going to help? Or it’s that just a waste of my money? Just check the ground. Do I have to solder it back if I remove the ground wire? So the multi-information display also causing that from the cigarette lighter ground?
Mike I would replace cigg lighter socket assembly. But there is a fuse for that lighter. Check for power in fuse box and if you have power see if you have a live 12vdc signal at lighter. Most of the time there’s just a bad ground on that socket so buy a new assembly if you have power there. The display could be a fuse, but more than likely the display will need replaced. It sucks things don’t last long these days.
Man, that damn back bracket is hell!!! I guess when u assemble the motor out of the car and don’t realize you didn’t leave alot of clearance for the awful bracket you stuck there....i got it out tho 😵😵
Maybe? Looking at it now you could have more clearance removing the radiator fan too. If I had to do this again today I would still probably do it from the top
LockDown S550 I can’t remember the actual sizes now, but I recall 13-16mm 3/8 drive sockets, with ratchet and even ratcheting wrenches is what I had used. I used a Snap on 3/8 drive short ratchet too.
Where is the coolant temperature sensor on a 2006 Lexus is250. I can't find it. I google it, call the dealer but they say they can't explain over the phone. Can u tell me where it is. Thank u
Chueyee Vang I’m terribly sorry I didn’t see this. I just opened my old yahoo account back up and it let me know about all these old replies I’m sorry.
Thanks for this video! Removing the star stud makes pulling the alternator a lot easier than messing with the radiator or relay box!
Whats the socket size to remove them?

I was almost convinced this was easier to work on than my bmws till I attempted the bracket nut ridiculous design. Two bolts is enough. 😩
Did u replace the rear one? Was it okay without it
Thanks did not see the tab in the back and was ready to set car on fire😠
johnpaul glad you got it.
Dude. Same. My husband nearly kicked the bumper off from anger over that back nut 😂
How did you take off the back bolt without removing the ECU box? I tried replacing mine today but i can't seem to reach that back bolt.
I already took off the little nut holding the bracket but can't get the other bolt holding the bracket to the alternator

Great job, now you just need a better camera, wide lens

You Can Fix That sorry I’m late! Glad you got it out sir.
👍🏻 thanks 🙏🏻
Would it been easier to remove from the bottom of the car??
Maybe? Looking at it now you could have more clearance removing the radiator fan too. If I had to do this again today I would still probably do it from the top
That bracket is a pain in the ass
What tools would I need to remove the nut off the bracket

Lexus/Toyota made this engine to complicated to work on
Import Tunner yes that’s for sure! I believe they wanted more dealerships to have work lol
Mechanic Dave yeah I mean Honda/Acura v6s are easier to work on then this
What's the thread on the 12mm bracket nut
I lost that nut Sunday
Tru Fan damn I’m sorry I didn’t get this reply sooner. My apologies. I’m sure you got it handled my friend.
@@mechanicdave4899 I dropped the bracket nut. I know the head of the nut is 12mm but what size is the threading?
