It was so cool as I was watching something on UA-cam and this video came on and I watched as you said you bought this from an estate sale from a couple who died 11 days from each other and the anvil had been brought down from Massachusetts in the early 1980’s. I was like that must be my dads.
I yelled to my brother in law, John to come see and he got so excited as he saw you were the man that he had sold it to.
Just wanted to add a little further history on this anvil. It belonged to my dad, Frank Goodwin. I believe that it use to be my grandfathers who died 52 yrs ago, I believe he was born in 1903. I heard you bought a vise also. It sat fairly close to this anvil in my dads shop up in MA. I remember my grandpa Joe and dad working on something using the vise and anvil and they were drilling a hole in something. One using a drill and the other holding the item. the drill gave way through the item and drilled a hole right through the palm of my grandpas hand. I remember the concern on if he was ok and the answer was “ya”. I believe both my grandpa and dad were about as tough as the steel these tools were made of!
What pleasure it is to see these tools have gone to someone who shows such joy to have found such a great find and who will enjoy using them for many years to come!

Jean, Thank you so much for your kind words. Thanks for sharing your story and history of these two wonderful items. I also purchased the old drill press that was in your dads shop at the auction (from my research it was made in 1860). I didn't know your father but as I told your brother in law John, I would have loved to have known him. Just by walking around his shop and looking at all his tools I think him and I would have been kindred souls. I am honored to be the steward of these tools and will use and care for them for the rest of my days. Tell John I said Hi. I am going to do a video on the vise and the old drill press as soon as I get time. Thanks again Bob.

In your living room it would make a great table for when you invite a couple of Norse gods round for a beer.

Really nice anvil, it’s in remarkable condition, very similar to my daily anvil which is also a Peter Wright, 409lbs.

Your welcome. I also use boiled linseed oil, on some things it works well.

@@HippieHillHomestead Cheers! Does the boiled linseed oil replace one of the ingredients you use in this video, or do you use it alongside them?

I use it alongside them if it is going to be in a high humidity area

I'm sorry what were you saying? There was a lot of fowl language in the background.
