    Please don't let your fears about knitting retreats/shows prevent you from trying them! I'm super introverted, have mobility issues, and I've gone to many of these events and I always go alone. I found the easiest way to find people to hang out with is to sit down with a group of people who are knitting, take out your knitting, and then ask them about their projects. If you are introverted, devote some time to socializing, and then recharge in your room at night. Lots of folks run virtual knitting retreats/shows/online classes, and those are also great options if you can't/don't want to travel or if you're shy.

    One of my favorite things in the whole world was a retreat I used to attend with my Knitting Guild. As a working Mom and wife and now a caregiver for my dear husband I really miss it! It was Thursday - Sunday. We had the conference room and all our rooms were down the hall. Although this was literally at a church camp it was beautiful. I am very low maintenance except for my yarn of course. All our meals were included and the staff there was fantastic. It was definitely a time for me to decompress and just relax. I’m one of those that would sleep on the floor for a knitting retreat!

    I'm so glad you're going again. I'm planning on going in either 2030 or 2031 if it's still there. Need to start saving now. Sounds like a long way off but I'm in England and it'll be for my 50th

    What a fun idea! I am such a newbie but would love to find myself amongst so many inspirational folks like you! Just maybe in the future I will meet you. Enjoyed when you went to the festivals or Rhinefest. That video’s were so much fun to sit back and watch your day with friends and enjoy the travels.

    I like the “runner up” project idea for just in case. I always have a “Sockhead” cowl or hat going as a “popcorn knitting” project. It’s easy, miles of ribbing or stockinette and it’s a project I take along to help me calm down when traveling or going anywhere that might be a bit busy. Thanks for the information about knitting in the hills.

    Knitting events are so special. My first was Madrona (think it’s called Red Alder now). I had to fly Tucson to Tacoma so total cost was a good bit BUT it was so fun to see so many knitters and the classes and extra events were great too. One of the people at dinner asked “where is your knitting” and I replied “I don’t have a project with me that I can knit and talk at the same time (my mistake!) she replied “you should ALWAYS carry ‘stupid knitting’ - knitting you can work on while talking. Good advice that Ive followed ever since. Also one perk of going to one is once you’ve spent the money to go, you will never again think the cost of a skein of yarn is so extravagant - it’s a kind of permission to buy yarn 😂

    I definitely had to pause after you said the amount. I understand how expensive these things are to put together and run after working at a summer camp so it's not really that crazy to me.

    One thing you will never see me do is going to a retreat. Specially alone. I did it once and it was so stressful for me I ended up getting sick and having to leave. I am very shy, except around friends. I've made friends like at work or neighbors just by being around them but putting me in a large (more than say 5 people), pretty much makes me shut down completely. Even at family get togethers I can go through this if there are people I don't know there as well. I think it's great for people who socialize and all but as much as I'd love to go to one and take classes, I know I could never go alone. The one good experience I had at a convention was with all my co-workers from the shop I worked at as a hair stylist. It was a lot of fun and classes were great. Just knowing I had people nearby if I needed them relaxed me enough to enjoy myself. So while I would encourage people to go to these things, also listen to your body and mind and be gentle with yourself. Going with a friend might just be what you need to open up with others. And if you don't have the problems I do, go!!! go alone, go with someone, meet up with someone there, whatever. Just remember you don't have to be like everyone else and it's also ok not to go.

    This is really far off the track, but why is your computer turned towards the wall?

    • @sophiewiest1493
      @sophiewiest1493 Рік тому +1

      I think it is Kents computer, hers is facing the window. And it is probably because the ventilation works a lot easier when the air has room to circulate around it, and since he's doing most to all of the editing, the computer works probably hard sometimes with rendering and keeping up. Allowing the computer to "breathe" freely prevents emergency shut downs and loosing all the work that wasn't saved, and it increases the duration of the hard- (and soft)ware

    Please don’t say you got an allergy when you’re just a picky eater. That makes life for the restaurant staff so much harder. Please just be honest.

    • @Lisa_Flowers
      @Lisa_Flowers Рік тому

      To my knowledge it also makes the lives of people with actual (often pretty severe) allergies harder! I've heard of people with allergies who were served food they were allergic to by restaurant staff even if they informed them of their allergy beforehand, because the staff didn't believe them or take them seriously. Likely because they've had some people falsely claim to have an allergy (though that isn't an excuse, as allergies are no joke and can kill people if severe enough).
