    The fact that only 46k have watched this is sad. This conversation affected me greatly, for the positive. It was so relational, I felt it to my core. Thank you so much for making this possible, as an engineer who's considering getting into medical labs, and also sometimes obsesses over some things like Peter does, this was invaluable.

    I need you both to know something. As a Cardiac RN in a second career, I tend to feel a constant nagging for where I will practice AND avoid burn out. Your vulnerability means a lot to me and I feel the permission, maybe I needed, to learn and understand what will allow me to continue to love my life as a Nurse, wherever that will lead me. It’s so validating to me that talented Doctors such as yourselves, can allow the influence of your drive and personal desire to follow your hearts, where ever those may lead you. Thank you for your honesty guys.

    It took me the better part of my 20's before figuring things out, and as many problems as there are in medicine, I'm so glad to be going in with the knowledge gained just from listening to Peter Attia's podcast the last six months. I'm not sure there is a bigger advocate of truth, critical thinking, and a search for meaning in the field than Peter. One need not be involved in healthcare to go through the full spectrum of human emotion listening to this. I almost felt as though I'm intruding into a private conversation at times. Zubin, I'll definetly have to watch more of your content. I've always sort of known of you as the guy poking fun at hospitals/healthcare, but really appreciated you've learned and discussed on the nature of consciousness. And you had me laughing to the point of tears with the whole "dickly" tech pitch. I also share your frustrations with medical system as a whole. It's an exciting time though. I really feel as like there are more and more physicians pushing back and questioning some of the dogma, especially regarding to the foods we eat and how its driving the metabolic syndrome, which in turn drives a huge proportion of the chronic disease we face.

    ZDogg's point about consciousness that he's making for the author is that conscious systems go all the way down to the plank length because anything in between requires a miracle. The current understanding is that consciousness is an emergent phenomenon that occurs when you have either high computation or high computation in a medium. So it just seems to pop into existence. But if it's gradual, at what point does consciousness come into play? ZDogg's point: it's always in play. It doesn't mean we understand consciousness at any layer lower than highly advanced biological systems. It means that it makes more sense to believe that consciousness is a gradation rather than something that just seems to pop into existence at some point.

      @@wearashirt yeah me too. When he started talking about reality and consciousness, I internally got very defensive of *my reality* for some reason. It's as if I could've argued with him in that moment. This coming from a person who highly regards Dr Damania and respects his profession, outlook, and persona as he's projected himself to the public. So I guess I could say that it felt very philosophical and seemed to dip into the realm outside of science. Lol. I couldn't wait for that line of thought to end.

      His last podcast talks a little bit about the subject. Definitely not beneficial from a longevity standpoint because of the wearing down of knee cartilage. There's just often a big difference in what benefits health-span and life-span. That's why I'm so fascinated by his podcast and life-work, because he seeks to find those practices which successfully marry the two.
      I, myself do alot of crazy stuff like heavy lifting and MMA which help longevity in the sense that I'm working the nervous system and activating neuropathways, etc., but does that really aid in longevity since I'm stressing my body beyond what is actually necessary to get this benefits? A 28 year old man with a young family died in our ICU of because the chief resident could not override the order the attending made to discontinue a certain antibiotic that was effective. . Heartfelt petitions were made by many. Things like this haunt us all. This story has flooded my mind with sad memories. Makes me even more grateful for droll medical humor.

  • @jaythefit8817

    This is remarkable. Our vocation is not who we are. People I use to work with thought I was really strange because almost everything was connected to some philosophical idea. I would reduce the why question to a point where there's no person on earth could answer it. I see the world as cascade of ideas that filter down from the pens of philosophers to the masses; however the masses have no clue why those ideas are pervasive, and why they have embraced them. It's that idea everyone is doing, therefore it must be right. What is really bizarre is my formal education extends to a narrow category of subjects that aren't typically considered highly intellectual. I graduated from a diesel mechanic vocational programs and spent four years in college as a PE major, but never graduated. I mostly attended college because I was gifted with size and speed with a talent to play football. I don't consider myself intelligent in the sense of a high IQ; however I am driven to ask why and that has served me well to satisfy those things my mind cannot ignore. It takes me longer to learn; therefore a traditional education moves too quickly for my attention span.

    • @sbh0007
      @sbh0007 5 років тому

      Replace is not the word. They are specializedd hcps. Docs and N.P s have completely different scope of practice and they collaborate together for form care plans for it's. I often see n.p. calling the MRP for consultation before making any major change to pt care plan. The hierochial attitude in a team leads to hostility which is contradictory to team environment.

      @@sbh0007 I'm not sure my comment was truly appreciated! What I mean to imply or indeed say is that there currently is a rush on to be an NP once someone gets their RN, and this is, to me, degrading the value of nurses.

    • @sbh0007
      @sbh0007 5 років тому

      Interesting thought. Bedside nursing is not easy. Is it clinical rewarding; yes! One learns a lot in increments of 12 hr shifts. Thing about bedside nursing is , I think, it makes you a better nurse(RN or RPN) and a better person if your goal is growth. With that said , I want to gain lots of experience and hopefully move on to N.P program which btw also isn't a piece of cake. Where I work, I love and respect our N.P.sbecause they have a unique perpective and understand nurses as they have been there and done that. They provide clinical support,helps assisting in making changes to pt care plan that needs immediate action and collolate with the MRP when required. Nurses that came before us had to work super hard and advocate to be in specialized spaces like E.D, Obstretrics. Etc. And expand the scope of their practice. If nurses are not happy with their current space....then go out and learn something new. Sometimes it's a clinical-block or redundancy about our work. We need change of things. We shouldn't degrade others who want higher education. Its good for the profession in the long run. Now if you implied that nurses should gain some significant bedside experience before hopping off to N.P program ,i am going to agree with you a 100%

    There is nothing I like about my reality and I don't know if there is something in this word that can make me want to adapt to this reality. That's why I don't care if my reality is real or not.
    And yeah, reality is so subjective, that nobody can tell you what's real or not for you. That's why it doesn't make much sense to speak about what is real or not. It's a never-ending topic with very limited practical implementation. So it makes more sense to concentrate only on the things that we commonly accept as reality. Otherwise we speak different languages and nobody understands the others.

    The eye observes a stationary quark
    The observer decides that it is moving.
    This intention causes the quark to move…

    30 year PT currently in home health, worth every minute. Brilliant on many levels. BTW, we need a video of patients referred to HH from ED for PT only due to a fall. In spite of their unstable chf, BG of 300, BP at 210/130, and 10 lb wt gain in last 3 days. They just need a little PT to help them get stronger. That maybe healthcare 4.0.

    Ohmygod, when I was a CNA I can't tell you how many nurses used the word 'Gomer'. I never knew the origin of the word, as I was 21 until 28 that I was an aid, so I was a tad younger in the scope of the word 'Gomer'.

    Nope - dont agree with the whole 'perception' theory. It sounds too convoluted.
