3-series: TOO old C-Class: Amazing interior but also amazingly SMALL Yes i think the A4 now is the best in class. Luxury with practicality. I'm a BMW guy but Audi did an AMAZING job with this one.
I am a BMW guy as well and I must admit that Audi has stepped up their game. And about the screen on the instrument cluster , I can't agree.I get into my car to just take a drive and relax , I am in front of screen all day and the classic layout is better imo.
I am a BMW guy as well - but this next time, we are looking at the Audi A4, the Mercedes Benz C class, the Jaguar XE, and maybe the Cadillac ATS - but my wife says NO on the Cadillac even for just a test drive. Oh, well.....
I agree. I went to bm showroom today and the only car they had with comparable tech was the 7 series. All others just seemed previous generation cars. And the i8.
I had a question about that the mercedes I seen for around 40k looked kinda cheap in some aspects like the screen looked like an ipad u would see in say a mazda or something any other issues with the merecedes?
somegg person the one bad thing about mercedes is really the screen but the rest is perfect. but its the "one plus ultra" of germany car you can get. BUT i dont know what mercedes you mean? what class is it and what number, and production time?
BMW really needs to up the ante in the 3-series interior now. I haven't owned an A4 before since I don't need AWD here in Arizona as it doesn't snow and rarely rains but that interior and tech is really something. The 3-series is really starting to feel overpriced for what you get.
In terms of materials quality bmw never had something over audi, that said, the audi really tops it. Only mercedes can have a word with it. The reliability, engine, the racing history are all also no audi's side. The only thing bmw got over audi is the RWD which makes it more dynamic in certain situations. Coming from a guy that worked in a port driving hundreds of new cars daily.
I was really surprised upon my brief drive recently. It's got good performance compared to the old Audi A4's very crisp handling and solid suspension feel. Very light and athletic feel behind the steering that engine mated to the dsg is very sublime. It's quite a shocking transformation.
Well, here it is 5 days later and I have the car for two days. I am very impressed all around and the power is so much better than before. This will walk away from my A6 3.2. I found my next car...
I have moved from an A8 to an A4 avant 3.0 V6 diesel with tiptronic 8 speed transmission. Very impressed with how light and pointy this car is with high levels of grip. Sub 6 seconds 0-60 mph but capable of over 50mpg on a long run.
yes! been waiting for this one! thanks! I googled and this is apparently shorter in length than my 2012 accord? a few car reviews have commented on how big the a4 has become...may just in comparison to older model.
looking at these auto interiors makes the tesla interior looks lame. there is soo much to look and feel and touch. tesla on the other hand has a big screen
you are so right.I just got this car and at night the interior looks like a spaceship! Looks so nice unlike the tesla which I took out for a drive and the interior was a bit bland except for that awesome screen. The a4 looks better at 55000 compared to tesla at $180000...lol
Zack you didn't mention that the platform this car sits on is the chassis of the A5. I can attest to the prowess of the A5 as a leap forward from the A4, being an owner of both. Saw the new A4 at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show and the configurable dash is just as you say. For those that think that the A4 should have gone through a major re-style, it's one of the things that set the Audi brand apart. Some vehicles, Mercedes comes to mind, get so contrived with trying to look aggressive while being a luxury car that the design exercise is lost. Audi designed the R8 to be their halo car, the TT to be the affordable version, the A5 which has such classically beautiful lines I get compliments on it alot, so they are doing something right. We went to their factory and took the tour last Fall just before the auto show and were amazed that they can build an A4, A6 and A7 and the Avant variants down the same assembly line, one after another. Unfortunately the A5, is only available as a 2 dr and cabrio here, where in Europe it would be what Andrew M is looking for, the emotionally styled stable mate.
For anyone who is buying A4, do yourself a favour and get S-Line Prestige package it’s worth every penny as I don’t get it on mine and it’s worth every penny, the only thing that I regret otherwise it’s been a year and I still love it every day when I drive my A4 Bass 2 L does 5 1/2 seconds 0 to 100 not six seconds like he mentions and it’s extremely fast for family sedan
I really likes your reviews and am sure you have a lot of followers around the globe and of course in the US , I'll ask you again , could you please mention the fuel economy in MPG in addition to Km/h?!! Thank you
stunning interior. It's clean, modern, contemporary....I love it. The C class also has a beautiful interior except that funky steering wheel mounted shifter....a total deal breaker for me.
chigasaki06 *the retired police captains like buying s class because it reminds them of police cruisers theve been driving, not just pickups but I get what you mean, I prefer myself the shifter in the middle like in the maybach W240 and the shifter even tilts backwards when u are in drive and can lay your hand on it and think to yourself you are driving a 1930s maybach and shifting gears manually*
the c 300 is traditional luxury...the a4 is futuristic more modern luxury. Both are excellent in their goals. The a4 will appeal to the techlovers i think especially with that cutting edge virtual cockpit with google earth maps
How does the A4 compare to the modern BMW in reliability. I prefer the manual. I owned a 328 some years back and reliability was abysmal. The Audi interiors really set the standard.
Great car, saw one today! Dunno but Audi's are like accountants' cars, Merc seem to be doctors' and BMW's are playboys' cars.. hahah To be honest, not too sure about a best in class or best overall car, I think that the ideology of having an all round no.1 car is a little far fetched as each car is either good or bad in their own way and a best in class is simply a personal favourite (IMO). What do you think Zach?
Hi Zack, As always thanks for informative reviews. Just wondering if you have done something on TT so far or not ? Maybe I wasn’t very lucky to find it ;) Cheers! Farid
Zack, your videos are extremely well done. I am in the market for a midsize car and need help narrowing my choice between the A4, C300, and the Jaguar XE. I like the diesel in the XE, find the 300 a bit to tight on the inside. Do you have any ideas into how I can narrow this down?
+Maher Ghalayini the best advice is to try them all in the conditions you drive every day and really pay attention to all the aspects that are important to you. This will help narrow it down
Maher I decided to go with the a4...its amazing! The driving experience is so smooth theres plenty of power and the interior is very modern and futuristic.Plenty of room in the backseats as well as I am 6ft 1 and am very comfortable back there.Just one thing though.Make sure you go for the top trim with sline as most of these German cars are cheap looking on the basic trim.I am very happy with mine and total price came in around $55000
Hi, Zack is based in Vancouver, the are for compagny test car insurance... You'll see that all around the reviewers. They all have the same plates whether the journalist is in Oregon, Whashington DC etc... Zack explained that in one of his video blogs :-)
Thanks Motormouth (Zack) - another great video. The 2017 Audi A4 is a really nice, well-designed car - one that I could easily drive/buy/own. The upcoming 2018 Audi A5 Sportback will be even nicer - i.e. better looking, with increased load space by way of its rear hatch design. It will be a terrific smaller brother to the excellent A7. Can't wait to test-drive the new A5 Sportback when it shows up here (Canada) in April-May 2017. /RB
Why Audi Canada removed the auto brake hold button? The button that should exist next to the hand brake switch.. Audi in Europe & Asia have the auto brake hold as standard feature.. While BMW have the auto brake hold function in Canada & the rest of the world market..
I wonder if it burns oil like my A4? Mine has been burning oil ever since I bought it but Audi won't take full responsibility despite selling me a lemon
what model year is yours? Audi reportedly fixed these issues years ago. Consumer reports ranks audi a4 at number 3 in reliability behind only Lexus and Toyota.
I fell in love with MAZDA 6 (2018), interior is for me even more appealing than Audi. Visually built to perfection, specially front is precision! Audi A4 looks fine, but don't have spark next to Mazda 6. Hope designers will leave front alone and focus on back of the car, if they want to do some modernisation on new generation! MAZDA 6 is the winner
Hard to tell. Depends on the model and design. My friend's A6 went to 300,000km and no major repairs. My 1999 A4 has a lot less mileage, but is still mechanically sound for a car that's older than most high school students.
Well technically aren't car brand reputations basically built around anecdotes (just a larger number of them)? My stepdad has some bad stories with Toyotas so he doesn't like them, but overall, Toyota is usually viewed as the paragon of reliable cars. I'm just saying that the proof is in the pudding so let's give the car a chance and not damn it based on its brand hence my earlier comment about "hard to tell". IIRC, Audi actually scored pretty well in Consumer Reports' reliability report (just below Lexus/Toyota/Subaru actually) and they're above average according to JD Power so while I'm not saying they're super reliable cars, seems they've made good progress over the years.
should i lease or finance this car? really worry about the 4th and 5th year as maintenance will probably will really high or is audi really should best be "rented" on a 2 year basis? dont mind leasing this baby for 15K over 2 years but prefer to own a car
Who the heck wrote the description for this? It says the A4 is a competitor to the Tesla Model S, Aston Martin, Mercedes G-Wagen, BMW i8, and all of Audi's own models😂😂😂
It is so sad that permanent all wheel drive with crown gear differential is now replaced with this system that is essentially front-wheel drive until computer decides. No matter how you look at it, it is a reactive system, very similar to cheap systems used on RAV4, CRV, and many other predominantly front wheel drive cars. This system will have more under-steer, will be more unpredictable in the corners, and it is unclear can in ever send more torque to the rear wheels that to the front wheels? Crown gear differential could send up to 85% of the torque to the rear wheels, making cars handle well in the corners and fun to drive. I guess my current Audi is the last one that I will own.
What's up with all these outrageously high 0-60 quotes for this car?! Car and Driver tested it at 5.2 seconds, and other reviewers quote lows 5's too. I have a feeling people aren't using Launch Control
Hi Zack In what sense is it a class leader? The interior and exterior both definitely aren't better than the new C-class. Not even close. And even though it has technological and structural changes, it's not a huge departure from the previous generation in terms of design. It looks more like a refresh than a redesign from an exterior standpoint. I'm surprised that you're amazed at the transformation from the previous generation to this. C-class is what a transformation looks like.
+Richie Rich you just don't get it. this is the bauhaus german simplicity which audi is known for...and it only appeals to a certain segment of the population. Mercedes may have a nicer interior for some due to the fact that theres just more 'stuff' there, but id say audi is the apple of the car world - timeless designs and simplicity with nothing extra and nothing ostentatious.
+Behdad Bahrami Design preference is subjective and there's no right or wrong answer. I didn't say it's ugly. I just said it doesn't look like a big change as far as the exterior is concerned. I live Audi's. But I don't have to love everything they make. Just like I don't like the Mercedes CLA or the Audi A3. You like the approach, good for you, I don't have to agree with you. The question was for Zack and I wanted him to answer from his professional standpoint. He spoke very highly of the new C-class and it was his favourite car for last year so I wanted to know if the A4 surpassed it.
The new A4 is defiantly a nicer place to sit on the inside, the c class a close second (but second nonetheless). The BMW way way way behind. The outside hasn't changed too much, but then again it doesn't really need to. The C-class may have changed shape and sure it looks nice, but it makes it have less room in the back, less room in boot, than the A4. Trading some looks for practicality may be ok for some, not ok for others. The 2 cars will appeal to different buyers really and both are great
why are the Germans giving all their cars in NA red indicator lights now? And to make things worse, they often make the brake and indicator the same light. Did the Germans go back in time to 1960 America? Indicator lights must be amber, without exception. Whenever I see an older German car with amber indicators and seperate brake lights, I think to myself : oh the good old days.
+Nicholas Smith You're right, except that you're not correct. Indicator lights for the US are NOT required to be amber in color. Perhaps do a bit of research before claiming to poopoo the automaker. They most certainly know the laws.
I know indicator lights do not have to be amber by law, they must be amber in my opinion. The fact that it is not the law means that it is the manufacturer who chose to make them red. This means that they made two different taillights, one for Europe and the rest of the world and one for NA. That makes no financial sense.
that is not the base engine in the us. the base engine is the 190 hp 2.0 inline4. Also this is also the most expensive version of the a4. the premium and premium plus do not have these features. in the us, if you get the Quattro version, the car is around $50k so if you are quoting $50k in cdn, then you are getting it around 21% less than americans.
+EXillw Everytime I see a C class I think the person driving has no class and wants to look more well off than they are. I've ridden in them and they are cheap junk, no better interior than a Honda Accord that costs half as much.
Chow Simon R8 doesn't represent all Audis. It's the smallest seller of all Audis. Not relevant to this discussion of 'normal' cars. This is an A4 review. Why dont you talk about the rest of their mediocre line-up?
The vents all the way across the passenger side of the dash are terrible. Plastic vents are cheap and should be minimized in a design. Shoulda stuck with the leather and aluminum instead.
I think overall, this is pretty great, but does the center screen tuck away at all? Probably my biggest quip (as also seen on the Merc C Class). How about yourself? What did you dislike most about the car? How significant in the additional space in the back seat?
3-series: TOO old
C-Class: Amazing interior but also amazingly SMALL
Yes i think the A4 now is the best in class. Luxury with practicality. I'm a BMW guy but Audi did an AMAZING job with this one.
+Chris Sorreda BMW refuses to use a screen in their instrument cluster, it looks really dated inside of it.
I am a BMW guy as well and I must admit that Audi has stepped up their game. And about the screen on the instrument cluster , I can't agree.I get into my car to just take a drive and relax , I am in front of screen all day and the classic layout is better imo.
That's fine but it should be a option for some of us that want our info directly in front of us rather than having to look to the side while driving.
And the i8.
Audi, King of interiors
EGGBIRDTHEROOSTER yea the rings remind me of 2 pairs of boobies! Can’t help but get a half chub every time I look at my steering wheel!
Wow that's probably the best interior for 40k. Very well put
+Pablo Herasme Too bad it's 43k BASE + dealer fees and freight pdi. The car you will want to buy with all of these upgrades will be 55k.
lol, you got a new mercedes for 40k and it got much more high quality and better feeling
I had a question about that the mercedes I seen for around 40k looked kinda cheap in some aspects like the screen looked like an ipad u would see in say a mazda or something any other issues with the merecedes?
somegg person
the one bad thing about mercedes is really the screen but the rest is perfect. but its the "one plus ultra" of germany car you can get. BUT i dont know what mercedes you mean? what class is it and what number, and production time?
Wakusa I was looking at the c class sedan 2016

Tomislav Zvonimir I think the 2.0 tfsi is the best engine
best engine is 2.0 TDI unfortunately not available in canada
Great review as usual. That interior is top notch.
I think the balance between practicality and sport cannot be beat here.
I was really surprised upon my brief drive recently. It's got good performance compared to the old Audi A4's very crisp handling and solid suspension feel. Very light and athletic feel behind the steering that engine mated to the dsg is very sublime. It's quite a shocking transformation.
Good review. Was just in this car two days ago and it impressed me, (and I have an A6). May be my next car.
that cluster, that temp screen @.@ awesome.
I own the 2017 a4 best car ever!
I own one as well.Dont you find the interior lighting and ambience feels like a spaceship or private jet cockpit?
Same perfect daily
I have one as well, it feels like you are sitting in a futuristic jet! its amazing especially at night with ambient lighting!
How is it treating you now
@@jeremyv11000 how it treating you now
Great review Zack. My only quibble is the exterior styling. Audi stayed way too safe and just doesn't evoke an emotional reaction at all.
Still happy with my 1996 Audi A4👌🏼
Well, here it is 5 days later and I have the car for two days.
The diesel is fantastic.
yes! been waiting for this one! thanks! I googled and this is apparently shorter in length than my 2012 accord? a few car reviews have commented on how big the a4 has become...may just in comparison to older model.
looking at these auto interiors makes the tesla interior looks lame. there is soo much to look and feel and touch. tesla on the other hand has a big screen

but car is not a phone
you are so right.I just got this car and at night the interior looks like a spaceship! Looks so nice unlike the tesla which I took out for a drive and the interior was a bit bland except for that awesome screen. The a4 looks better at 55000 compared to tesla at $180000...lol

where are you from ..a4 and tesla are much cheaper then your prices
Hi there I'm from Toronto Canada The loaded Tesla model s is around $170000 and the top level trim for the a4 Quattro is avoid $55000
Its a super nice car!! I love Audi car!!
🔥🔥 quick, simple, but amazing review
For anyone who is buying A4, do yourself a favour and get S-Line Prestige package it’s worth every penny as I don’t get it on mine and it’s worth every penny, the only thing that I regret otherwise it’s been a year and I still love it every day when I drive my A4
Bass 2 L does 5 1/2 seconds 0 to 100 not six seconds like he mentions and it’s extremely fast for family sedan
I get a non sline and I regreted it badly
Excellent review, as always.
I really hope the S4 is just as good as it no longer has a 6 Speed manual or the dual clutch automatic.
very nice looking inside as well as outside, plus Iile the screen in the dash
I love the way you describe things about the car! Will there be a wagon A4 for Canada?
I really likes your reviews and am sure you have a lot of followers around the globe and of course in the US , I'll ask you again , could you please mention the fuel economy in MPG in addition to Km/h?!! Thank you
+ammar Nagi agreed, would be helpful
Could you please tell your government to join us in using the metric system. Thanks.
ammar Nagi just do the calculation
stunning interior. It's clean, modern, contemporary....I love it. The C class also has a beautiful interior except that funky steering wheel mounted shifter....a total deal breaker for me.
*its so that you can put your laptop in the middle instead of having a shifter*
Club Bmw Amg I know it creates more space, but to me, it makes the car less sporty. Steering wheel mounted shifters reminds me of pick-up trucks.

I feel the new C-class has set the bar so high with the new model in every aspect and remains the new king in the class.
the c 300 is traditional luxury...the a4 is futuristic more modern luxury. Both are excellent in their goals. The a4 will appeal to the techlovers i think especially with that cutting edge virtual cockpit with google earth maps
I have driven both before choosing and the Mercedes is a bit sluggish. But overall both are great but the tech and value is unbeatable.
I have the audi q5 and I love Audi.
and the new S4 should be a beast.
How does the A4 compare to the modern BMW in reliability. I prefer the manual. I owned a 328 some years back and reliability was abysmal. The Audi interiors really set the standard.

Just wondering if you have done something on TT so far or not ? Maybe I wasn’t very lucky to find it ;)

The interior seats are black or dark grey?

Why Audi Canada removed the auto brake hold button? The button that should exist next to the hand brake switch..
Audi in Europe & Asia have the auto brake hold as standard feature..

But the facelift ones have it standard on every trim

Crown gear differential could send up to 85% of the torque to the rear wheels, making cars handle well in the corners and fun to drive. I guess my current Audi is the last one that I will own.
+DeathNikki no,it's all A4 series with creepy hadlex, no crown gear any more.
What's up with all these outrageously high 0-60 quotes for this car?! Car and Driver tested it at 5.2 seconds, and other reviewers quote lows 5's too. I have a feeling people aren't using Launch Control
Hi Zack
In what sense is it a class leader?
Couldn't agree with you enough! 👍
*in Europe they have to be amber not in US, do you realize how retarded a 2015 escalade would look like with yellow turn signals, SMH ur dumb*
+Club Bmw Amg the new Escalade DOES have rear amber turn signals! Time to crawl out of your cave.
i have 3 at home
that is not the base engine in the us. the base engine is the 190 hp 2.0 inline4. Also this is also the most expensive version of the a4. the premium and premium plus do not have these features. in the us, if you get the Quattro version, the car is around $50k so if you are quoting $50k in cdn, then you are getting it around 21% less than americans.
Great review. I hate the front of the new car. Interior is still kinda boring
Still an Audi. C-Class still better
+EXillw C-class = Cheap class. Mercedes does it better with everything else but not the entry level.
+EXillw Everytime I see a C class I think the person driving has no class and wants to look more well off than they are. I've ridden in them and they are cheap junk, no better interior than a Honda Accord that costs half as much.
It sounds like you guys are c-class haters,
Lol the only mercedes that’s nice is the s class. I’ve driven the c class multiple times and generations they are lifeless sluggish cars.
İts the least.

it looks really nice but will probably drive like every other Audi. heavy front, bit clunky and not the best handling. shame
sounds like u have driven an R8
+Chow Simon it's not relevant, it's a supercar. this is an A4 review. stop being silly
+bodrulm1 so r8 isn't an Audi ?
Chow Simon R8 doesn't represent all Audis. It's the smallest seller of all Audis. Not relevant to this discussion of 'normal' cars. This is an A4 review. Why dont you talk about the rest of their mediocre line-up?
*all the c class cars will now have to compete against the alfa romeo, and its gonna be hard*
Mercedes C300 is better than this audi A4.
The vents all the way across the passenger side of the dash are terrible. Plastic vents are cheap and should be minimized in a design. Shoulda stuck with the leather and aluminum instead.
Drives boring, looks boring. Great interior though
Another painfully boring car from -VW- Audi.
I think overall, this is pretty great, but does the center screen tuck away at all? Probably my biggest quip (as also seen on the Merc C Class).
How about yourself? What did you dislike most about the car? How significant in the additional space in the back seat?
+DarthRegis Yes it does retract, there is a switch the right of the steering wheel on the dash.
+DarthRegis No, the screen is not retractable in the A4, but apparently it is in the 2017 Q5, and also in the current model A3.
