@Ian TB Very nice, I'd love an F-Type whenever my budget will allow. Genuinely think the hardtop version is one of the best looking cars ever made. My last car was a Mini Cooper S, that was fun to commute in. Got a few confused looks when the exhaust crackled and popped and there's a guy in a suit driving it. All in good fun! Anyway, working from home 4/5 days a week.... can't complain about my commute either to be fair. :D

I personally think the clean design inside and out makes it look great, especially if you have audi virtual cockpit, some nice wheels and in daytona grey with s-line. Simple and great looking. Also, audi quattro is the best.
Had the 2017 1.4 TFSI SPORT manual 140BHP. All-rounder car. Spacious and very practical. Took it up to 120MPH on motorway many times without any issues. 40mpg fuel average(60% MOTORWAY 40% CITY) in the 3 years that I had it.
Just bought one as a petrolhead. Pretty much the best car i could get for 20k that looks good, is great quality and decently fast. Looks amazing after i did a chrome delete, tinted windows, coilovers and vossen rims.
I was recently driven via carpooling in one of these B9 A4s. I kid you not, we were at constant 100 mph on a motorway and whilst having a chat with a driver I probably could've whispered and it wouldn't make much difference. I didn't feel a roadtrip at all. Maybe it owes it to a fact that it has some of these luxurious MLB underpinnings which go all the way to an A8 and Bentley... All in all - impressed!
Hmm maybe... but it could be other things too. Windy day, winter tires etc. From my experience, it was just nice and hush. Rather like small A8 and not just a fancy Golf. Altough Golfs are nice too...
Hi mate, love your reviews but have to take you to task with the A4 review. I have had an A4 cab, A5, A6 c7, and currently own the A6 c8. Have owned Jag XJR, XJ, BMW 3 & 5 series, and also Merc EClass. Listed these just to show I’m not an Audi fanboy. Probably 90% of normal road users don’t even know if their current car is front or rear wheel drive, and even fewer would like to get the tail out in a Beemer whilst normal daily driving! You say Audi hasn’t changed the A4 design much over the years, well what about 3 series Beemers...evolution rather than revolution is a German mantra most of the time. Sure the A4 2.0 tfsi is not as exciting as your M3, but then if you want to compare apples to apples, then maybe test drive an RS4...see how “nice” that is :-) Not having a serious dig as I always enjoy your vids, but the A4 is perfect for what the majority want, and as you mentioned, there are more exciting models in the line up if that’s your thing...keep up the great work !!!
Loganbay Have owned/own 4 Audi’s over the years, ranging from 20,000 miles to 85,000 and never had any of them miss a beat ...any car can be unreliable, especially if it’s not looked after, or ragged.
@@davidarmstrong4934 I find it hilarious when people speak of "reliability" with cars under 100,000 miles. No modern car should have failures under 100,000miles. I disagree that "any car" can be unreliable. Some cars, the Camry is one, take and absorb a complete and total disdain for maintenance and keep running on. When an Audi does, it's noteworthy.
When did you own the other cars though? If you have to go to the top of the line to have something exciting then that kinda highlights the issue... You don't need an M3 to have an exciting drive for instance, even a 320d is great fun to drive!
I have the exactly same car by in a midnight blue, black alloys and grey leather interior, 2018 model.. And I absolutely love it. Does everything you need, Practical when called upon and powerful enough to drive when the roads are clear.
I bought a certified pre-owned 2018 A4 for the exact reasons you stated in the vid. It's just a practical, nice car that's comfortable for the long drives I do. And I (probably) won't get a speeding ticket in it.
Why does everything has to be exciting? I like boring. No excuse me, I meant I love ‘boring’. It’s not boring, it’s sleek, minimalistic, well thought, chique. The build quality is something I can jizz on. I am coming from a Giulia. Yes, she was pretty, she had nice lines, drove well and was very reliable too. But the details, the way her doors closed or how the trunk couldn’t carry her own weight. The squeaky noises, the bad finishes. I could eat myself up because of that. I love the design of this Audi and instead of calling it every time soulles, boring or dull, know that you are insulting people who love minimal stuff.
I have a Diesel Avant Quattro version of this and it is a superb car. 75k miles in 3 years and it is has been faultless and still can make you smile on a twisty road with the 4wd. Quattro is a must with an Audi and well worth the extra cost. Changing soon for an A6 Quattro and hope it is as good. Great video, keep up the good work mate.
Bought a low milage A3 1.6 diesel 8 years ago, now has 205,000 miles and still going strong. Engine has lost no power and is very quiet Cheap to run, no tax, good looking practical reliable car that drives nice. That's all I want from a car.
@@BishBosh24 it's just like JLR with Tata Motors! The firm is fully british but it's owned by an indian company!! Volvo is swedish but it's owned by Geely, a chinese holding
Yeah, same in Germany. But not because of the harsh winters, obviously. But because Audi and Quattro just simply go together in the German mind. Buying an Audi without the Quattro drive would be like buying a Rolex that doesn't say Rolex on it (if you're one of these people who give a crap about status symbols). There's just no point.
The spreadsheet comment really hit me in the feels, it's literally what I did just before I bought my B8, and I had just gotten a promotion at my accounting firm. Fully redeemed shortly after though
The Audi 80 and the original A4 were the 'quality' choices in their class, then competitors caught up. I still think as a tool this generation would satisfy 90% of people, and it's interesting that you really rate the interior, which after all is where we spend most of our time! Given a choice between this and a new Fiesta for the same money (and the Fiesta is brilliant to drive) I could see me buying this!
I have a 2017 A4 Quattro with the 45 tfsi. That is a 40 tfsi. Ride in one with my specs and you’ll instantly fall in love like I did. I went from a 2002 Jetta 1.8 to a 2020 r line Jetta that got totaled when I hit a deer to my 2017 A4. It was an instant love with this car. I have the bang and olufson sound system with the heads up display. This car has made me permanently want the A4 sedan for highway use, commute, and even a fun night on the road.
This generation is a huge improvement over the last one in the looks department I thought, much more taunt and smooth whereas the last one was droopy and jelly like.
The interior of this model (and the A5) is truly beautiful and feels very premium. Agree from the outside boring but from the inside, luxury. Just need to select a decent Quattro petrol for a bit of driving fun. Great car.
Easy car to live with. I never find myself in trouble with : weather, cargo, acceleration, fuel economy, visibility, reliability. But the transmission and throttle engagement can be a bit touchy. certain cases really benefit from a transmission mount insert replacement.
The reason I bought it over a similarly priced Benz or BMW was the extremely comfortable leather front seating, and beautiful interior. MB has the new dazzling wide infotainment screen, but other that that, I found the A4 interior more to my liking.
I have an A5 3.0 TDi 286. It is s great car but my wife and kids hate it for long journeys because it isn't very comfortable. We had a 5 Series before this car and I have to say she has a point! The A5 is a lot more fun though. The engine in my car is also brilliant. Genuinely fast but you can get mid 50's mpg on a run no problem whatsoever. One thing to point out is that the latest A4/A5 has now changed to two screens and got rid of the MMI rotary dial and buttons. I hate that. So much so I won't but another Audi until they have the good sense to realise people don't want to go through menus when a button could instantly do what you want.
I have the 2019 model and I agree it is unexciting to look at from the outside but brilliant on the inside. My previous car which was the mark 2 version of the VW CC was beautiful from the outside but boring on the inside. I always when walking away from it would admiringly, glance back at it but I never look back at the Audi. The latest A5 is a much prettier car.
Nail on head Matt drove a few Audi’s my last a A3 sportback got to give Audi credit for how well built they make the interior and it’s a nice place to be , Spec upgrades used to niggle me enormously for basic things that other car manufacturers give you as standard same with BMW they need to up the game because driving a German built car no longer cuts it with most people who want more for the buck !
Between 1st and 2nd minutes you nailed it in just 60 seconds my reluctance to get one of these A4s. No one could describe it better. Apart from that, you are like a hidden gem about automotive overall. I wish nothing but a lucrative business for you so that more videos we can watch...
For the daily commute of a family person this car does seem to check all the boxes. I like what you said about the Iphone. I could get more performance out of other crap out there but then I know what works well and Iphone delivers that. That said my previous Financial Director had a company leased A4. The guy was down to earth, truly a good lad, really smart and for sure made spreadsheet before getting this one 😂
I always loved the look of the A4 cabriolet back in the day. As for your flow chart result, 4 door, nice interior and plenty of room in the boot. It has to be a Skoda then?
I just bought a 2018 audi a4 quattro s line about 2 months ago. I've added a CAI, diverter valve spacer, turbo muffler delete and a stage 1 93 tune and it's decently quicker than stock. it went from 252hp (stock) to about 320-330. 0-60 (0-100kmh) in about 4.4-4.5 seconds. I think it's a brilliant car, really nice exterior and interior and has been reliable thus far. so many options when it comes to these, especially in the UK. the car is great, it's my first audi and it's a big step up coming from a honda civic. nice video :)
Hey, can you tell me how much fuel it uses in city driving. My 2020 a4 45 tfsi (245hp) is being delivered in next 10 days and im thinking about stg1 revo... thanks and wish you a Merry Christmas
I followed a similar flow chart, and ended up with an X3! The Audi interiors are nice, but finding one with a six-pot and a decent auto-box was near impossible.
That review didnt do that car justice 🤣 This car suits a small family/business man/motorway drivers... it's not too big but it's not small either.. fast but comfy, will carry 4 adults very comfortably for a long journey or cross country... you just dont like it!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Totally agree 👍, that's why I got a 3 series instead. They're the ones that start making all the series -A4, A6, A8- looking pretty much the same, now Mers and BMWs have followed.
I owned an A6 (C5) quattro for 13 years and I really liked it. Then I bought an XF saloon (X250) that I really like as well. A4 saloons are mainly driven by ladies around here.
Even the smallest details you tell Makes so much sense, i hate the car when you mention a small bad detail and love the car when yiu mention a good thing.
The car is a workhorse, a tool for the job. Tdi preferred but excellent daily driver. Premium golf if you like, the more perfect something is the less soul it has I find, the fit finish and quality of these cars is excellent. Nothing else built like it for the budget
I bought a used low milage 2017 B9 a couple of years ago and I love it to bits. The only thing I don't like is when you put it in sport mode it drinks petrol like a young guy out for a drink with his mates!!!
I drive a 2021 A4 Quattro. This review is spot on. What I really like about the A4, it is attractive and has decent handling and quickness and quality materials. But it’s not so expensive that you feel guilty using it as a daily drive. Also, Quattro kills it on snow. I live in a cold, hilly area and the A4 performs better than any SUV I’ve ever driven.
We used these in the Police for a couple of years. 3.0Tdi Quattro. Central Motorway Police Group. Not as quick and softer suspension compared to the 330d. The seats were more comfortable though. Audi only offered 100000 mile warranty unlike BMW that was unlimited. So when the A4s were nearing 100000 miles off they went to Auction.
I’m with you 100% having recently moved from a Bmw and and Audi to a golf I really miss having the volume controls around the gear lever. It feels like much more hassle just changing song or selecting a new playlist...
I went from an Audi S1 to a B9 A4 TDi. Sometimes it’s just what suits your needs at a particular time in your life. That said, I do miss the S1…. apart from the economy…..
After purchasing a mountain cottage and realizing my FWD Jetta GLI would not be able to climb the road leading to it in the winter, I just sold it and purchased a used 2017 Audi A4 S-Line, in red, with a manual transmission. It might not be a riot to drive like a Golf R or an Audi TTRs, but at least in the A4 I can put the skis in the trunk and through the center opening and the skis don't protrude onto the front armrest. And with 252 HP the car has plenty of punch for overtaking the Toyota Corollas on the highway.
I completely agree with you here, I have one - a 66 plate Matador Red 2.0 TDI 150 S-Line S-Tronic and it is a wonderful tool. I bought it as my commute is more or less all dual carriageway and for 90% of people it is pretty much the holy grail of Middle England motoring. However, it is not a fun or exciting car in any way shape or form - so much so I'm looking to trade it in for a Mini Cooper S in the new year!
Really been loving my audi a4 avant 252 hp 2.0 tfsi Quattro, had zero issues after 60 miles. I liked my FWD 2.0 tdi 190 hp too, but the FWD isn't really exciting to drive indeed as you rightfully mentioned. The Quattro was such a welcoming edition, the fuel consumption is 5% up to 10% higher tho because of the AWD.
Personally, I have never understood the anti-A4 prejudice displayed by the average self-opinionated petrolhead. The A4 is and always has been the personification of Bauhaus style on wheels, it does everything well, is dependable & reliable and its styling ages far better than its vulgar & brash competitors.
I got the B9 S4 avant, 3L v6 turbo. It’s beaut. It’s not the most fun to drive, still good and fast but not too indulging. But missus loves it, we use the space for camping, its practical and comfortable. One moment having a massage by their massaging seats, next moment youre blasting around
Love your analogies😂 Clinical... To most, a head scratcher when describing an automobile. But to a petrol head, makes perfect sense. The automotive equivalent to being in an Ikea kitchen display unit. Don’t get me wrong, they’re far from “bad”, but it lacks character.
Hi there Matt. Your description of this a4 is just perfect. It’s like a well known classical music composer; Everyone knows him, he makes good quality sonatas but won’t make you bang your head or jump off until you destroy your sneakers.. And yes, if I really have to, I would go for the estate/avant- version. Thanks Matt
I've got this car in white with a 1.4 TFSi engine. i can assure you it is not underpowered, it's by no means very quick but it doesn't lack get up and go. The only downside is to make rapid progress you need to work the engine a little bit and that will make fuel economy suffer. Accelerate rapidly everywhere in the urban or extra urban environment and you'll struggle to get 30mpg. However if you make smooth brisk progress you'll easily outpace slower traffic and return 35mpg in the town. Accelerate smoothly but not quickly and you'll get high 30's mpg, 42-42 extra urban and about 48mpg on a motorway run. The car feels really solidly put together, a step up from my previous car a 2012 Merc C class Coupe. There's a firmness and a solid feel and movement to all switches and controls. Steering is nicely weighted, doors close with a satisfying "wwwuuumph". You get the impression the cabin and switchgear is built to last and i can't tell you how much more upmarket it feels than my friend's Renault Kadjur which cost him £18k when 2 years old and my Audi was £14k when 3 years old and his interior is much cheaper feeling.
Truth be told, I am Business Analyst / Business Intelligence Engineer and I do my decisions based on data. I am driving B8.5 Avant and planning to go for B9 for these arguments: 1) Interior quality and ergonomics is top of the class (excluding Luxury cars). Comparable f20 BMW 3er is rubbish in interior. 2) Decent styling - It's an Audi and it looks like one. No weird shapes or experiments on it such as Nissan Qashqai 3) Overall mechanical robustness and reliability - I know some Audi's had issue (tfsi piston rings, destroyed cams on 3.0 tdi...), but mine B8 has been running solid with no issues at all. 4) Quiet. A4 B8 is quiet inside, A4 B9 is godly quiet. 5) V6 TDI and stronger 2.9 TFSI with Quattro can be reasonably fun. ..... 6) It's a car and I use it as such. I want it to take me where I want when I want to do what I want.
The only practical downside to this and all Audi's - in my opinion - is their reliability or lack of it; particularly on the electronic/software side of things. But whilst Audi are not on their own in this issue, they do rate poorly on reliability surveys.
I owned one of these a few years back, you described it perfectly. I couldn’t quite explain it, I just never connected with it like previous cars. It went after 5 months.
I have heard from a couple of company car owners of audi a4 that they had suffered sore backs something to do with position of driving seat i believe they changed it on 2016 models by an inch or so if its true would be interesting to hear a4 or skoda superb for me the skoda wins hands down
Very fair review, great car if a little dull but like you said this is a family car and the vast majority of people would rather have a great well thought out interior rather than something they want to go for a drive in for the sake of it. People tend to have a second car for that or not care about it at all.
Had a 2019 A4 B9. Build quality is excellent on these but if you value space in the driver footwell (RHD) and being able to move your left foot, don’t buy a RHD A4 B9. The LHD to RHD conversion, leaves RHD in a bad place. The bell housing intrudes way too far into the footwell.
Hi Matt, I, m thinking of buying a car 017 onwards. Here in Ireland the country is falling down withAudi A4,s. Lots of well paid professionals have them. Farmers love them. All the young crowd are mad to get their hands on them. The younger people will happily spend their entire wage packets on A4, A5 and lately A6 models. When the crowd is going that way I, m going the other way. Seriously considering a Lexus is 300h.A real beauty
Spot on about this car:) Would love to see an update on your own car compared to the L322 and the sport for example. Thanks and keep up the entertaining reviews;)
This car is just like you Matt, your videos are so clinical, your reviews are so well composed word for word, it's almost like you're reading from a book, but you're not, I don't know how you do it for 10 minutes straight, credit where it's due you describe every aspect of your cars with great detail, and keep us interested, just not exciting or fun, like the A4 lol
Really good review, just got rid of one 3.0D Quattro and it was great but....... I never walk up to it and when wow that my car, felt boring looking, Just was missing something and never truly loved it, a few years a go I had a 2009 red A4 Aline Avant and loved it.
Great video as always! Ever think of doing a Golf GTI / GTD mk7/7.5 or golf R review? I know you’ve said in the past that Golfs bore you, it’s just i’m considering a mk7 GTi or GTD perhaps next year. Once again, great videos as always, keep them coming, all the best from Ireland!
The Audi A4 series is the best front-wheel drive car in the world, the motor is placed longitudinally instead of transversely, enabling it to be positioned closer to the firewall, the front wheels moved further to the front, this reduces front overhang & heaviness. Need a bevel gear to transmit the power to the front driveshafts though, some power & torque would have been lost on the pair of bevel gears. A4, A5 and the A6 share the same chassis. Not the A3 which is made in Romania, from memory the A3’s engines are made in Poland. Remember the SAAB cars ? Their front overhangs were exceedingly long, need to slow down when driving over a ditch on the kerb or the front bumper will scrape the road surface.
You are spot on about everything else but the interior. Great all rounder and sensible car. My dream car would have the BMW chassis engine and gear box, Audi interior and ride , and Alfa JUILIA or Jag XE looks, and a Merc badge.
My cousin bought one a low mileage AUDI approved used traded in their old E46 320d SE that was giving problems... The A4 turned out to be lemon and spent more time at the dealers than being used.. They could not fix the problem and then refused to work on it they ended up contacting the consumer ombudsmen to get their money back... Worst car they've owned according to them never again... They now drive a little Ford Ecosport diesel and couldn't be happier.. Reliability is paramount to them as they run a couple businesses in Cardiff and travel to London often to spend time with family
Please don't knock spreadsheets. I use them for all my big purchases. Just bought an Infiniti Q50 Hybrid after watching your recent Q50 video. Two step process for car purchase as follows: 1. Watch High Peak video 2. Open spreadsheet Nice simple process.
Had a b9 2018 Daytona black edition avant. Sound and comfort pack, bang and olufsen and some fancy coloured lights inside. 1.4 cheap as chip lease. Boring as feck. But perfect for a commute for two years..... tried the virtual cockpit on a test drive but novelty wore off after a few miles once you selected the view you wanted. Mine was £37k list price and is currently at Leeds Audi for £20k 2 years old and 30k on the clock. The volume control location was one thing I really liked.... I’ve jumped into an older bmw 6 series and the volume nob is miles away and every time I search for the volume nob i think about my a4
Good review! I've got a 2016 Avant with the 2 litre tfsi engine and I agree with everything you've said. I must be the type of buyer you described because I love it as a car!
I'd like that car - very pleasing on the eye. It is not an ugly SUV or crossover. It is a good looking, practical, beautifully built, frugal, powerful, front wheel drive, petrol engined saloon car - just like all cars should be (with maybe the odd estate version). And this one has the high end bonus feature of not being fitted with stupid privacy glass bling. It's a shame just how rare these cars are becoming.
Sooo, what you're saying is that it's a good car, it's well-designed, it does everything pretty well. It drives well, it's comfortable, it's easy to use ... and yet ... and yet ... And why would anyone design a car without a cupholder for both the driver and front passenger? It's just logical. It's called designing a car to be used. Glad to see that the cupholder reports are getting the prominence they deserve, BTW. Not before time. Thanks for the videos, Matt. Always look out for them.
My dad owned one of these from 2017-2019. Put only 29k clicks on it and the ctrl arm bushing cracked, oil was leaking, coolant was leaking and the water pump failed not to name all of the other faults it had with the Bang & Olufsen Audio system. Sure we did drive the car hard but we thought that it would withstand the pressure. So much for German engineering. Fun car though. My dad street raced a V8 and the A4 kept up. The spec my dad had was nice as well It was the Sport spec Quattro in Matador Red with the S Line pack and the larger screen. It also had the black nappa leather and sport seats. Such a nice car but quite unreliable
@@ethan_hsv62l You literally just said it had 400bhp. One website lists it at circa 1800kg which is only 50kg more than my 300bhp 335i E93 which would wipe the floor with this A4.
I had 2001 a4 1.8t quattro , it was comfortable nice driving in city conditions and i wasn’t tiered even if i ride 300 km , but on highway it was so boring and consumption was 11 l on 100 km 110 km/h after that I didn’t want to own audi a4 but know b9 is so better so sophisticated compared to previous models and rivals that I started to think to buy 1

I have this car and i think the review is spot on. I personally think it is one of the better looking compact saloons especially in white
I had the same and hated it. The auto box, which is mentioned in the video, was awful in mine. Horses for courses is suppose.
Did you get the A6?
@@MrSquirrel1693 yep 👍
@@craigorams i just bought a 2018 A4 2.0 tfsi stronic. But I must say the A6 is my dream. Which model did you get?
@@craigorams oh just to add, I have the fwd version unfortunately
Bought a low milage A3 1.6 diesel 8 years ago, now has 205,000 miles and still going strong. Engine has lost no power and is very quiet Cheap to run, no tax, good looking practical reliable car that drives nice. That's all I want from a car.
This is the best review ever about a4 .
Thank you so much for making a point in every second of this video .
Over here in Sweden, an Audi without Quattro doesn’t really compute.
That’s right
@@BishBosh24 it's just like JLR with Tata Motors!
In South Sweden we don’t have any winters really. Last winter I even wondered why I put on my winter tires on my Jag...
Maybe if you live in Norrland but otherwise, not really ;/ Only needed my awd one day last year and I will now always go for friction winter tires.
The spreadsheet comment really hit me in the feels, it's literally what I did just before I bought my B8, and I had just gotten a promotion at my accounting firm.
Fully redeemed shortly after though
Haha congrats
@@HighPeakAutos Funny, I was looking at Passats before I bought my B9 last week.
Who else is loving the regular uploads 👏 any updates on bmw raffle? And course on trading cars??
Nail on head Matt drove a few Audi’s my last a A3 sportback got to give Audi credit for how well built they make the interior and it’s a nice place to be ,
Spec upgrades used to niggle me enormously for basic things that other car manufacturers give you as standard same with BMW they need to up the game because driving a German built car no longer cuts it with most people who want more for the buck !
Between 1st and 2nd minutes you nailed it in just 60 seconds my reluctance to get one of these A4s. No one could describe it better.
Apart from that, you are like a hidden gem about automotive overall.
I wish nothing but a lucrative business for you so that more videos we can watch...
Thank you! I appreciate the support
A4 B9 with Quattro , 2.0 tfsi 252 Hp , manual and the s-line package is my dream car , that am looking at buying next year.
That’s right unfortunately
That review didnt do that car justice 🤣
This car suits a small family/business man/motorway drivers... it's not too big but it's not small either.. fast but comfy, will carry 4 adults very comfortably for a long journey or cross country... you just dont like it!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha I agree. The car is excellent... just a tad boring
"It's very easy to operate, even a chimpanzee could use it" 😂😂😂😂 PhD graduate at the school of subtle humor
Cheers!
Thanks!
YOur reviews have something the other big channels don't - a soul. Thank you very much.
I appreciate that!
Yeah Audi have been nailing the look of estates for a while now.
My dad has one and bought a golf just to keep the miles off he loves it that much.
He says you feel fairly rich whilst not being so.
Audi's just age so well stylishly in my opinion which is great because used cars generally don't really look that used exterior wise
Another accountant here . Had an A4 Avant- no spreadsheet needed . It’s the best estate in the segment
Thats interesting
I’m with you 100% having recently moved from a Bmw and and Audi to a golf I really miss having the volume controls around the gear lever. It feels like much more hassle just changing song or selecting a new playlist...
Yes me too. Its a really good idea
Great choice. The S4 Avant is a different kettle of fish
Love your analogies😂 Clinical... To most, a head scratcher when describing an automobile. But to a petrol head, makes perfect sense.
The automotive equivalent to being in an Ikea kitchen display unit. Don’t get me wrong, they’re far from “bad”, but it lacks character.
Praising while pulling apart equals praise !! Audi for life
Best opinion with every car review, great channel & honest bloke 👍
I needed sensible and this achieved it with some power and great traction. It’s a fancy practical car for me.
My Mrs is an accountant and we just bought one for her 🙈 now I know why she wanted an A4 😂
Mazza 9520 haha She definitely had a spreadsheet on the go for this one
Hi there Matt. Your description of this a4 is just perfect. It’s like a well known classical music composer; Everyone knows him, he makes good quality sonatas but won’t make you bang your head or jump off until you destroy your sneakers.. And yes, if I really have to, I would go for the estate/avant- version. Thanks Matt
Haha that’s quite right. I do like the look of the Avants
Do you still have it? Whats your expirience with it?
The B9 platform was a stroke of genius. My spreadsheet told me so.
Truth be told, I am Business Analyst / Business Intelligence Engineer and I do my decisions based on data.
I am driving B8.5 Avant and planning to go for B9 for these arguments:
1) Interior quality and ergonomics is top of the class (excluding Luxury cars). Comparable f20 BMW 3er is rubbish in interior.
2) Decent styling - It's an Audi and it looks like one. No weird shapes or experiments on it such as Nissan Qashqai
3) Overall mechanical robustness and reliability - I know some Audi's had issue (tfsi piston rings, destroyed cams on 3.0 tdi...), but mine B8 has been running solid with no issues at all.
I own A4 B8 and absolutely share your opinion on the estate audis...
I have heard from a couple of company car owners of audi a4 that they had suffered sore backs something to do with position of driving seat i believe they changed it on 2016 models by an inch or so if its true would be interesting to hear a4 or skoda superb for me the skoda wins hands down
Great point about winter tyres. They even made my old BMW series 6 drivable in the snowy/wet season. But I talking about the South of England!
My cousin sells these, I wonder what the sales pitch is “it’s got a knob, just where ya want it”.
Hi Matt,
I, m thinking of buying a car 017 onwards.
Haha thank you! I appreciate it :)
This review nailed it!
I had the A4 B8 2.0 TDI and was a great car. Kind of regretting part exing it for my Cayenne now..
Great review as always!
Really good review, just got rid of one 3.0D Quattro and it was great but....... I never walk up to it and when wow that my car, felt boring looking, Just was missing something and never truly loved it, a few years a go I had a 2009 red A4 Aline Avant and loved it.
Great review Matt ... as per usual.
What it’s missing is a TDI engine and a manual gearbox in a black edition trim. Imo the A4 is one of the best looking Audi models ever made
My cousin bought one a low mileage AUDI approved used traded in their old E46 320d SE that was giving problems...
Two step process for car purchase as follows:
1. Watch High Peak video
2. Open spreadsheet
Nice simple process.
Haha ok no problem
Had a b9 2018 Daytona black edition avant. Sound and comfort pack, bang and olufsen and some fancy coloured lights inside. 1.4 cheap as chip lease. Boring as feck. But perfect for a commute for two years..... tried the virtual cockpit on a test drive but novelty wore off after a few miles once you selected the view you wanted. Mine was £37k list price and is currently at Leeds Audi for £20k 2 years old and 30k on the clock. The volume control location was one thing I really liked.... I’ve jumped into an older bmw 6 series and the volume nob is miles away and every time I search for the volume nob i think about my a4
Thats right, they should all copy Audi with that
Good review! I've got a 2016 Avant with the 2 litre tfsi engine and I agree with everything you've said. I must be the type of buyer you described because I love it as a car!
Definitely a decent car, don't buy an E60 BMW M5 though...
By all means drive one if you get the chance though. Ugly as shit... but that V10!
Went from Scotty Kilmer trying to fix a seized A4, good job he's not reviewing.
Still garbage endless money pits
I’ve just bought one, tomorrow I s Sunday, and I can’t wait to get out in it, he doesn’t get Audi at all!
My degree was in finance . And yes just bought a B9 A4. I did a spreadsheet to decide if i should buy it. Ha ha
Yes youre right. I see the appeal as a sensible daily driver
Have you driven a S4 be interesting to hear your thought's
Totally agree with you, i drove one around Frodsham and it was clinical.
This is so so spot on. About Audi in general

My neighbour had a diesel version of the A4 and the whole debacle of adblue caused him no end of issues.
He hacked it in for a BMW X4.
Thats why you do a stage 1 tune they require ZERO MODS and get about 50 more horse and 80 torque. Thats the extra spark
