With such strong entries into what is arguably one of the most competitive automotive segments in world, Audi looks to up its game with a completely re-engineered A4 for 2017. Although it may not look completely new at a glance, closer inspection will reveal an all-new chassis, improved powertrain, and one of the most tech-laden cabins in the industry. Those of you in the market for an incredibly well rounded luxury sport sedan should put one at the top of your list.

I test drove the A4 yesterday and loved it. very comfortable ride with little road noise compared to my GLA45 AMG. went back to the dealer today and put and order in for the prestige model, added a carbon fiber wing and mirrors just to make it a bit cooler. I can't wait:)

I've driven this car (Quattro, Premium Plus with technology and sport package) for about a year now. I had the Google Earth for about 3 months before it disappeared. I was bummed to see it go, but honestly I don't really ever think about it until I watch five year old reviews and I'm reminded I used to have it. The outside door levers felt a little weird at first, but I don't even notice them anymore. Likewise the shifter or where the park button is, or the steering feel. It might take a week or two to get used to, but you'll never think about it again until someone brings it up. (My wife drives an Infiniti, and her controls are slightly different, but not so wildly different you'd ever be mad switching back and forth.) The 19-speaker sound upgrade is great, but I mostly listen to podcasts, so it's probably wasted on me most of the time. The Virtual Cockpit is cool, but the vast majority of the time, I just leave it with the normal gauges, unless I'm driving in an area I don't know very well, which isn't very often. I bought a wireless Apple CarPlay adapter for less than $100, which fixed the need to have a wired connection, which is also a huge upgrade to the usability of the infotainment, in my opinion. I used the paddle shifters for a week or two, but now basically let the car do what it wants, with the occasional move to dynamic mode, if I feel like going fast. I'd guess that's 95% of drivers looking at this.
Focusing on the drivetrain, the power, the ride, the seats, the speed, the comfort... all the things that are going to matter after the first month, this is a really good car. I kind of wish I spent a little more to get the A5 Sportback, which I will probably look at next, but otherwise, I can't think of any reason to entertain the other German small luxury cars. The 3 series and the C-class just don't touch it. And the Japanese competitors might be less expensive to own, but they just aren't nearly as enjoyable to drive, and they just don't seem to have any soul. Which is fine, fi that's what you're into. Honestly, any time I have the car in for regular service and I drive a loaner (last one was a 2020 Q5, and the one before it was a newer A5) I am excited to get back into mine.

Good honest car reviews with realistic viewpoints on buying or owning luxury cars. most sound like they're trying to sell you viagara with cars that will make them feel more adequate with themselves, not all car review channels do this, but yours sticks to the review and strays away from the car bro, driving with the boys, v8 only marketing crowd.

Alex Pascutiu B8/B8.5 steering is horrible, I’ve owned 2 (A4/Q5)and they had serious issues with developing a dead spots while trying to keep the car going straight so you end up skipping leg to right. The B9 gen has fixed that issue and is much improved! I’ll never get any previous gen just because of the steering alone.

The A4 has always been handsome (if understated) in its design, and that definitely continues here I think. It's probably perfect for those who want German luxury but to fly a bit under the radar. I applaud Audi for the updates to the interior as well as the engine. That said, for me personally, those dual screens are WAY information overload, and I consider myself a Techy. I like this sort of thing, just not while I'm driving. I think the center screen could probably be eliminated, and just leave the console 12" screen (which is gorgeous)...especially with the head's up display, too. I'm also not a fan of the shifter, though that seems to be something you could get used to over time. For all-out performance, I'd probably still go with a 328i, myself.

I currently drive a 2003 1.8t Passat and I have to say I loooove how it drives and how the wheel feels, its a fun tu drive car. I am looking to get the Premium plus A4, because I felt in love with VW and Audi, but I am afraid the driving wont be as fun as my Passat..

+Big Boss he kept referring to it as one and I was thinking how is it any more a sport sedan than something like a nissan maxima...ppl shun nissan for calling the maxima a 4DSC

Yea, I kept thinking it was the previous gen A6. Seems like german cars nowadays are getting bigger with every new generation. The A3 now sits in the segment of the original B5 A4. Too bad its a haldex drivetrain instead of true quattro awd.

Great review! Does this car have self-park function (i.e. does it scan for parking spaces and let you know which one is the best, and all the drive has to do is hit the gas pedal/put the car in the correct gear)?

Does the signal stalk on the 2019 A4 stay in position or does it go back to the middle? I noticed a lot of auto makers using this feature which is pretty annoying. The signal stalk should stay in position when in use and then go back to center after the turn is made.
