I have some feedback for your videos. If you could at the beginning / end of the battle provide statistics of the battle: Units in the beginning, Kills / Deaths etc. ..
I don't get why people say these units suck, they might be situational and they certainly need to be supported by more tanky units but I can see them work quite well. Good on closed maps where you have lots of chokepoints.
Tbh i totally agree that who said they suck are not the good players To be precise These will excel at tight maps Vs mass trash units they would demolish groups + if microed they would be sooo annyoing to follow But people usually tend to like op + easy to control units like paladins,
This test shows to me that these units are not to be used alone by themselves. Having cavalry in front while they slice at the back seem like a good combo. These things should not take damage. Side note: spotted a nerf to Imperial Camel Rider at the end (-1 base attack)
these guys will be absolutly devastating against real players. Even with staggered formation if you try any form of kiting or focus firing against the chakram throwers they will benefit a lot more from their cleave than they did in the video. (i mean just look at 11:54) Looking at most units in the video you'll notice that they formed 3 groups while approaching the chakramthrowers. the center bulk of the army and some straggler at both flanks. those stragglers soaked a lot of the initial power of the chakramthrowers and when they finally attacked the main body those guys where often already spreading in meele or killed too many of the chakram throwers. A real player would focusfire into the biggest bulk and kite back against meele. I think with micro these guys will win against most archers and all infantry with ease. only weakness might be spread cav.
They are much better with micro. If you keep your guys grouped and a bunch of units come at you in a line your frisbee team will shred. I like that they dont straight up win and you have to use them smart.
Man... No-micro fights where melee units just go to town are weirdly satisfying to watch... Oh, uhhh... Yeah, the Chakram Thrower looks pretty cool! :)
I think that good micro players are going to find that these units are actually kinda broken. Against a group, they have the splash damage of a mangonel with the speed of a gbeto. Seriously underrated.
This civ has maybe the best combo in AOE 2. Just watched a game that T90played with them and With tanky siege elephants, arrow dodging cavs and these mad throwing dudes were insane. Btw chakram throwers melt siege like butter.
Chakram Throwers are great damage dealer with a very decent range attack but they need something in front to soak up damage. They will work great in combination with Siege Elephant. Both of them will cover each other's weaknesses.
Not really; think of the Siege Elephant as a re-skin of the Siege Ram instead of similar to the War Elephant: very vulnerable to Melee attacks. So a Chakram Warriors+S. Eles. combo would be extremely vulnerable to Knights or Champions, and even to Hussars (to a lesser degree).
I think Elephant Archers up front might be the ticket. They can stay clumped together, so the enemy will swarm around them, allowing your Chakrams to get the most out of their pass through damage. The Gurjaras even get that unique tech that gives their EA's +4 melee armor so they're better at absorbing melee attacks from the front.
Teutonic knight casually take on a big metal dish but start to sweat when they see whip or stone . Anyways , they are truly strong when the opponent bunch up all of theirs unit instead of spreading it out .
Pretty clear these guys aren't meant to be used head-to-head. Guessing if there were a couple tanky guys up front for the enemy to bunch up around, that's where they really start to shine.
They seen good in choke points when supported by heavier units out front. A cheaper Scorpion is what I'd say they are. Definitely need support, probably from Skirmishers and Light Cavalry due to their poor effectiveness against ranged units.
I know this is a game, but watching this do has a psychological effect. Literally it's not just my front units getting the melee damage, it's all of them.
I think it's a great unit!. Of course, the tests don't tell all the story. It seems to be a similar story that the Gbeto or the Axe-thrower. Not a unit to commit against heavy cavalry or heavy infantry, but it seems to be in par against many ranged units, and probably deals melee damage. Probably good for raiding, hit and run attacks and to defend choke points. A very interesting new unit indeed!.
I played with them in a recent CBA game and found them to be useless. The pros like them but I guess it's different when it's in a normal game and you are a god with micro
I honestly wish the Chakram Thrower's attack could've been a glaive mechanic, like Huntresses in Warcraft 3 or Mutalisks in Starcraft. That'd have been cool.
Seems like a very niche hero it doesnt do well when its not being microed. These are very RNG fights because the AI doesnt target the biggest group of enemies to get the best effect out of its scorpion effect.
@@SeLFlo I thought about that, but then I watched a video by SOTL and he was speculating on how the new civs will be, so I figured he didn't have early access. And if that guy doesn't deserve early access on AOE2, nobody does. Dude makes the most thorough in depth reviews of the game in the whole youtube.
@@dirkauditore8413 Well, that doesn't match with SOTL when he says stuff like "I'm really excited about this new DLC", or even with the fact that his youtube channel is all about reviewing stuff from AOE2, new stuff more than anything.
@@MaxHohenstaufen Plenty of other content creators have their game already, I don't see why T90 wouldn't have his except for the reason i'm telling you. He prolly hasn't asked them to give him the game.
Well, most of this civ's army is cav so yeah, chakrams are here to deal with halbs mostly. Also with rams comming for your castles i guess/other siege.
Not really showing off an archers strengths by letting melee units run up to them and not micro-ing. Throw then behind some elephantos or micro them and they'll do well.

The stats are so key. Sucks without them :/

That was intentional.

So basically a better scorpion with two legs.
Is it better tho ?
( I don't mean technically, i just mean in spirit, they kinda suck as much as scorps)
@@abhishekparmar6702 they faster and easier to micro also cheaper
Mobile melee scorps (not enjoyers of archers though)
I think a scorpion does more damage but these guys are faster.

Scorpions on steroids.
Essentially a cheap, mobile, glass cannon version of a ballista elephant.

3:46 chakram thrower very sensitive to melee armor. they kill woads easily while big loss to berserks
This unit really shows the importance of micro. Faster moving scorpions like this can be devastating with hit and run tactics.
A much more mobile version of scorpion, but with much lower attack...
Much cheaper and easier to mass. They also do melee damage, not pierce damage.
overpowered and MikeEmpires doesn't even micro them

Do they have access to scorpions ? Because if they don't, this seems like a pretty decent alternative.
looks like a very good unit if massed and micro'd v.s siege, navy and trash
wow, the condottieri actually won a fight for once! :D
Do they do melee or pierce damage?
Chu Ko Nu slaughtered them. While they hammered huskarls.
Ranged melee damage, like a throwing axeman.
Can we get a vid of them versus every regular unit? They are shredding me in ranked rn lmao it’s terrible
"Strong against infantry and weak against archers" meanwhile they get crushed by equal shotels and obuch and almost take no losses against Rattans
lol
when the ultimate frisbee team goes to war.
Finally a unit that can defeat massed Missionaries
Formation on ranged and also melee units is going to be key against these guys
Janny 5 melee armor coming in clutch
