Dead Space is a science fiction/horror media franchise created by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, developed by Visceral Games, and published and owned by Electronic Arts. The franchise's chronology is not presented in a linear format; each installment in the Dead Space franchise is a continuation or addition to a continuing storyline, with sections of the storyline presented in prequels or sequels, sometimes presented in other media from the originating video game series, which includes two films and several comic books and novels.
Primarily set in a 26th century science fiction universe featuring environments, weapons, and characters typical of the genre, the Dead Space franchise centers on a series of video games beginning with the release of the first Dead Space, which follows an engineer named Isaac Clarke and the mutated undead horrors that surround him. A central theme in the games is the fictional cult religion Unitology and its fanatical followers, who believe that information about an alien artifact called the Marker is being suppressed by the Earth's government. Their primary goal is to use this Marker to bring about the so-called "convergence" or "unification", with the Markers being the source of the undead monsters encountered by the series' protagonists.
The Dead Space video game series has been positively received; the first game in particular won a number of industry awards for the varied elements of its gameplay and development, and is often regarded as one of the best video games of all time by critics. From a commercial perspective, EA considered the video game series as a whole to have underperformed. After the financial disappointment of 2013's Dead Space 3, no further media for the franchise was made for the remainder of the 2010s. A remake of the first game is currently in development by Motive Studio and set for release in 2023.

Dead space originals jump scare wasn’t that scary nor the game its self because you already played it like 1 million times
It was a-lot more unpredictable in the remake because of the ai director plus not all was it enemy spawn and trap placements like l4d 1 and 2
It got me quivering at times despite the enemy’s not being a whole lot menacing
Because the game if you play it is way WAYYY DARKER in game rather than on camera gamma doesn’t help until its recordered and edited for footage but god most cases i legit had me wondering if an enemy was near me and i just couldn’t tell…. Plus the sounds design is amazing….

    • @Mayokopp
      @Mayokopp 28 днів тому +1

Yeah that animation was way too slow. Showing her for a couple sceonds before the jumpscare could have worked better if they had done something to invoke a sense of dread. Cover her in the shadows a little, make her look a bit more demonic and have her twitch slightly before attacking Isaac just as quickly as in the original. That's how the scene would have been a hundred times scarier.
Nicole seemed kinda off to me anyway. I feel like her actress didn't really do the best job, especially in the scenes where Isaac "meets" her she seemed a bit cold and awkward, whereas in the original she seemed much more warm and welcoming. Imo the latter suits the narrative of the Marker using an illusion of her to brainwash Isaac much better. Also while I know it's an iconic line for the franchise they should have either thrown out her "make us whole" lines or at least hidden them somewhere in the dialogue more subtly

Like, less backtracking, no asteroid section, more interconnected Ishimura, better exploration, better Zero-G sections, added heartbeat that speeds up and slower depending on the situation, that goes along brilliantly with the breathing. You need to use your flashlight because if you don't you can't see anything. This makes a huge difference to me.

      @insertnamehere8723 Рік тому +24

Because the original was a dumb jumpscare. The remake is playing more on the emotional weight of loss and trauma as well as disbelief of what is happening from Isaacs POV. It's fair to say he may be less reactive stylistically due to being deeply shocked that it has caused he to be numb or what could otherwise be described as PTSD, which is especially convincing given the ishimura events and the possibility she coud actually be alive or at very least portray Isaac as struggling to tell what is real anymore. I mean, considering Nicole's position on the ship and all the subsequent stories told within it surrounding the downfall, it all adds up. It's tragedy mixed with horror, not just a cheap jumpscare. The devs knew this and know it is also world building so they don't have to punctuate the game with a "bang" with such a vague horror-y ending. Personally, I think Isaac has been set up to be a harder character than the original but is consistent with the sequels. If Isaacs was reacting how he would have in the cut scenes, he would have been consumed by the marker-induced psychosis, the remake paints a person who is deeply shocked but, despite all that, still manages to carry on. The only difference is this sets up a sequel remake where he potentially could show more signs of being worn down and more consumed by the markers lasting effects.

While the remake did well leading up to Nicole's "return," I still argue that the original wins out. The remake would work if Dead Space had just been a zombie game, but it just feels lacking. The original, Nicole was almost waiting for Isaac to notice her, before she pounced, that and how the screen gets filled with those marker symbols and how her scream sounds so twisted, just adds to the "Oh shit! It's not over!" factor.

Honestly, no matter how it looks, I knew the ending scene in the remake wasn't gonna hit the same way as the original did because let's face it....we all knew it was coming. If they really want to get us, they would've changed it to where Isaac turn to looks over and doesn't see anything and when he turns his head back and the camera pans to him Nicole jumps out from behind and grabs him screaming with her face opening up in a monster form. All and all though it's still a solid and enjoyable remake.

Beyond what people have mentioned already, I really like the originals take because it makes more sense that Isaac is finally coming to terms with his GFs death. The video player is already up and it auto plays, you can feel the impact Isaac has knowing what it really is now, and he goes to turn it off. That seems way more impactful IMO than Isaac turning on his player, watching the first little bit like he always does, then turns it off, implying no character growth or coming to terms with all that just happened.
Obviously the 'jump scare' in the remake was seen miles away cus of the way it was done, which I get, we all knew it was coming as this is a remake. But I will say I much prefer the feeling of the OG where instead of Isaac hearing his GF, he just senses a presence off to his side and instead of seeing the ghost of his GF next to him in the seat, its some twisted incarnation of his gf inhumanly perched to the side of the seat, way more freaky IMO.

Everyone is talking about the jumpscare comparison and how the original one is better, which I do believe the original is scarier in terms of actually scaring the player. People are saying the new one is bad but hear me out:
Think about it in Issac's perspective, he's just been through an entire ship load of twisted deformed shells of the people within the Ishimura, after been through hell and finally making it through alive after killing a creature he never thought would be possible let alone exist, and by a narrow chance he made it out alive and okay. After taking a moment to finally sit down and breathe and take his helmet off, he sees his girlfriend's body sitting right next to him.
Imagine sitting in Issac's seat and you turn your head and see the body of someone you know can't be there. Even if you knew it wasn't real, seeing it suddenly turn and reach out for you while screaming would scare the living hell out of you. I do believe the original is more scary and unnatural with how fast and loud it is, but at a realistic perspective this is still scary.
Before anyone jumps at me being a hater or mad, I'm not, I like both versions. I'm just trying to break the new one down in Issac's perspective.

The Remake is more psychological, because despite Isaac being safe, it's a grim reminder that the Marker screwed his mind permanently and that regardless of everything, this was *not* a successful mission.

Obviously its not gonna scare you if you played the old game. You know it's coming that why re4 remake is moving encounters and story beats.
To me since the devs know they'll get a sequel to make they are doing the whole glowing eyes and mouth thing or even movements of the og which dead space 2 had to run with.
Given how good the alt ending was I think they have a good idea of how to make ds2 scarier than the og. And Nicole looking this unsettling is critical

It is incredible how retarded the "remake gang" is argumenting pro remake ending in this comment section.
Just because we already know the jumpscare from the original doesnt excuse to make it this lazy, this predictable (we see Nicole for a whole 3 seconds (!) before she decides to sluggishly turn at Isaac with an angry face to finally take that TV remote from him). The scene is in every way worse than the originals. The music, the camera direction, the use of shadows, even Isaacs face looks like he barely made it out from a nightmare in the original by leaning into the chair after taking his helm off, compared to pussy Isaac just being sad his girlfriend was dead in the remake that is his only worry judging from his face. Just stop. Give credit where it is due.

Original dead space ending is much better you can see the relief that he finally made it and same time exhausted also has face of someone that he went through hell and back. The jump scare is also done better, in the remake it's a slow pan of camera where you see Nicole already and know what going to happen. I remember playing the original seeing that ending remember thinking that was that Nicole because it happened so fast.

I get the hate with silent hill 2 and re 4 2005 game mechanics but even so the latter really didn’t need a remake because its not broken to a point that it’s unplayable and the graphics is not the worst in fact its one the best looking 2005 game out there. The 90s re 1, 2, and 3 remakes makes a whole lot of sense but dead space ps3…now that’s inexcusable. But I’m not gonna lie silent hill 2 remake sounds exciting.

I will say that what I liked about the remake was when the giant chunk of aegis 7 was coming back down to the planet, how when taking off you literally get a cooler shot of it slamming into the planet unlike the original, but I wished they did better in the actual impact itself cause it felt kinda dull, like they plastered some explosion over the impact sight and the screen just fades to white, unlike the original, when the impact scene is witnessed, you can feel the impact as well as Isaac as the rumble echos, the whole impact from the epicenter literally lights up shooting debris everywhere and just feels and sounds more powerful and devastating when it crashes

They went for a different vibe with the remake's ending. While the original one definitely is scarier, the remake makes you have that dreadful realization of who is sitting next to you before the jumpscare comes.

First time I played the original, I though it was some necromorph that sneaked aboard. Especially when it hid behind the chair. And the scare factor mainly comes from loud sound

I enjoyed both versions of the game but think Nicole's original design was better, due to the fact of her looking sweeter in the video logs, calmer, comforting, etc.
Having a dramatic appearance at the end of the scene makes it more intense. She was weaker in the remake I feel.

I like how the remake made Nicole someone else who was as heavily influenced as Isaac instead of just a hallucination. I feel like the plot and dialogue of the remake is just better than the old games and does way more to explain the general story of dead space, even though 2 and 3’s story points were huge in their own right

The original is a lot more unnerving because Nicole is creeping behind the chair staring at Isaac with a weirdly shaped face coverd in shadows and she jumps at him unnaturally fast. Good, faithful remake though otherwise.

0:17 my favorite is in the og the camera have shaking effect and more dramatic then the Remake
0:25 idk but the og version look more natural and more feeling then remake
1:40 and my favorite this og version have effect and high pich voice who make jumpscare look more scary & creepy
    Sorry for my english

just best way to put the remake ending is just that its watered down, original you're not actually expecting it plus she's out of view til she lunges at you and the distortion along with the marker/unitology symbols. remake she's just right there clear view not even scary one bit being honest even if you played the original its slow and kinda lack luster if i can put it kindly.
