I’ve loved Stevie since I was a little girl. I’ve always loved the song “Gold” it never gets old! This is my first time hearing this song “Midnight Wind” I like it immensely but wish Stevie was on stage with John!
John Stewart was a great song writer, singer, guitar playing performer who collaborated with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey whats his name on many of John's songs, and THEY are suspiciously absent from this video. . I named my sailboat after this song. Miss you John.
These artists in the 1970s started using her voice in the background on their records because it added that Stevie sound that was so prevalent with Fleetwood Mac at the time. Her contribution to these records probably sold loads for these people.
In the videos I've seen of him, he seems to always be the only attraction. It's like the rest of the performers don't matter, only him. The opposite of performers like Bonnie Raitt, who seems to care about others.
I am not American, but I have an image of LA and Southern California in the '70s, for those lucky enough to have a bit of money, dreams and friends living there. This sounds like that image, on a mild or balmy evening. I know it is just fantasy, but it is evocative.
John playing a Gibson Les Paul here. He played a Gretch White Falcon many times....Acoustically saw him with a Martin D 28 especially when with the Trio.
magic: Stewart/Buckingham/Nicks....watching this I forget it's John because John and Lindsey share such similar stage presence. Especially the ending it - it could be Lindsey. This was a great great album!!
Man, I really wish there was a video of them really singing this together back in the day. I love this album, Bombs Away, Dream Babies. She sings with him in another song too.
I saw stevie and lindsey on stage with john doing this after it was recorded but before release... I wish THAT was video taped. John in person with Chris Whelan and Joey Harris were the best band I ever heard live... it just never translated to vinyl... which is too bad....
Must've seen him a dozen times over this time frame at small clubs; here with his JukeBox Commandos. Surprise pre-New Year's Eve appearance in SF by Lindsey Buckingham; Opening for Stevie Nicks in Oakland on her first solo tour. Wow, the memories
This was always one of my favorites. I wore the 45 down to dust. Awesome post....even though it is lip sync which was done a lot back in the day. I had never seen this before! Thank you for sharing this awesome classic, Great memories
White magic... Just like good liquour...timeless. Any song worth it's own salt, breathes. What a dirty and wonderful word at the same time. Thus is white magic. It ain't for kids. Those who love and believe in such, are enlightened. Harry Potter wasn't the first, not by a Longshot the last. They know the most powerful word in ALL magic is "love". I can't tell you where to go, but I love dragons and feel no shame for the good ones.
Great to hear this again after so many years. I remember this when it was new, but not terribly well. Sorry to know John has been gone for some years - didn't know until recently.
Love the song, but yeah, the video feels like they tried to make it look live and he is trying to react. Brilliant record. I think this the single mix. Album mix is...more patient. Better.
I’ve always loved John Stewart and this song. However I don’t think it’s live as he missed a “c’mon down” at the very end. This probably accounts for Stevie’s voice with no Stevie. Great video though! This is the first video I’ve seen of this song from back in the day!!
Great song! I've been trying to find this exact recording. The version on Pandora and Spotify sounds different and doesn't appear to be from the album Bombs Away Dream Babies.
I wonder if Lindsey Buckingham collaborated on this song as he did with John Stewart, who I think who is one of the most underrated singer/song writers ever, on "Lost her in the sun". RIP John, I will listen to your music until I RIP. Bombs Away Dreambabies.
Thanks for posting . Never seen this. Always loved this song . Reminds me a lot of “Sisters of the Moon”. Back then everything Stevie (and Lindsey) touched turned to “Gold”…
I can hear Stevie Nicks in background, but where is she? I remember the song from the 70's. Never met Jon Stewart, but did meet a lady about his age years ago named Miranda and said this guy wrote a song about her.
Lindsey Buckingham also wrote a song called Miranda. It was originally for a solo album but was eventually released as a track on Fleetwood Mac's "Say You Will".
This song was never a hit. FM radio played it a lot - as they did everything Stevie and Lindsey were on back in the 70s. But it was not a hit, but it should have been. Gold was the big hit for Stewart - thanks to Lindsey and Stevie. What a great record "Bombs Away Dream Babies" is.
I am pretty sure Lindsey Buckingham played guitar on the studio recording of this song as well as Stevie singing backup on this song, "Gold", "The Nightman" , and others on this album. It was a good collaboration as these were some of Stewart's best hits. The guy on drums in this video looks a lot like Walter Eagan (of "Magnet and Steel" fame). I don't think it is, but it looks a lot like him and he was friends with this group of musicians too!
@@lisaknell1809 True that. I just listened to this again for the first time in quite a while and that is most certainly Lindsey playing at the end of this song. Stevie sounds incredible in this one as well. It's a shame that Stewart and Nicks didn't release this as a "duet" as it would have probably gone "Gold" like "well, "Gold" did!
@@joevanseeters2873 Midnight Wind peaked at 28 on the charts in 1979. The song is listed as John Stewart feat. Stevie Nicks. Believe it or not, I still have my original 45 record of this somewhere. I’m old! 😂😂😂
I’ve noticed some comments about the performance here, obviously it was lip synced and not terribly well. My guess is John really didn’t want to do this as he found the commercialism not to his liking. So take that into account when watching this and just enjoy the music.
Stewart looked demented very early. Too desperate for acclaim and looking to Johnny Cash-another oddball guy who was baffled why others thought he was cool.
Another great hit by John Stewart the guy is simply magical.
Stevie absolutely haunts this song. I always wanted Stevie to do her own version of this song.
I think "Blue Lamp" sounds very similar. The beginning is almost identical.
I like her work with Stewart better than her with Fleetwood Mac.
She did. It's called "Sisters of the Moon".
@@neighborscomplaint6859 Huh? Sisters of the Moon is not Stevie's version of the John Steward song....WEIRD COMMENT.
Probably will happen with all the A.I. stuff around now. Have you heard "her" version of Imaginary Lover?
gold brought me here. this is a delightful surprise. might even be better than gold.
Owned this album, and for me this was the deeper track. One of my favourites of that time. Darker and more soulful...
STEVIE!!!!!!!!! MOST distinctive voice in music still to this day!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve loved Stevie since I was a little girl. I’ve always loved the song “Gold” it never gets old! This is my first time hearing this song “Midnight Wind” I like it immensely but wish Stevie was on stage with John!
I wish there was video of Stevie singing with John somewhere. Such a great song 🎶 ❤️
'GOLD ' is the song it is very good as well.
But she's not in the video. @@1besieged
At least they didn't bring in some cringy actress to stand in for her like in the "whenever I Call You Friend video! It's beyond terrible
John Stewart was a great song writer, singer, guitar playing performer who collaborated with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey whats his name on many of John's songs, and THEY are suspiciously absent from this video. . I named my sailboat after this song. Miss you John.
Hmm I think you meant Lindsey Buckingham.
I haven't heard this for probably 40 years. It's a great song. Thanks for posting it.
While this song was never on the charts in America and Canada,it probably was in the UK and/or Australia, maybe even Sweden.
Very underrated
Would have loved to see Stevie & John together on this song.
These artists in the 1970s started using her voice in the background on their records because it added that Stevie sound that was so prevalent with Fleetwood Mac at the time. Her contribution to these records probably sold loads for these people.
This song weaves a spell… and I love Gold with him and Stevie
Rest In Peace ….
Stevie Nicks has many magical powers, and can even make herself invisible.
She always fancied herself kind of a witch guess this does prove her invisibility. I think John couldn’t afford her to be in every video
Stevie Nicks? oh you mean Rhiannon
lol
And still sound perfect 🎩
In the videos I've seen of him, he seems to always be the only attraction. It's like the rest of the performers don't matter, only him. The opposite of performers like Bonnie Raitt, who seems to care about others.
Another masterpiece from the golden era of music.

Great comment 👍
I used toplay that so loud in my car stereo and get lost in it
Over the past decades I have seen JOHN STEWART perform a dozen times. Here he is at the top of his game. Sad to see that these times are gone. RIP.
I think he was at the top of his game writing the day the river sang songs ,his writing creativity was reborn with inspiration
I liked everything he did and loved most of it.
This is one song I will stop and listen to when shopping in a store.
That sounded amazing! I never heard it before. Stevie sounds strong and loud!
I hear Stevie but can’t see her 😢
i still have the original lp it is so great
John playing a Gibson Les Paul here. He played a Gretch White Falcon many times....Acoustically saw him with a Martin D 28 especially when with the Trio.
Am losing my hearing.., Keep hearing this beautiful song.,
I was at the show in Boulder Co. that tour. It might have even been this show. It was excellent.
Real top notch stuff

Once you discover it's Stevie Nicks in the background, it's SO obvious it's her voice. But I never realized it before.
amanda davis yes... she song background on this album and Lindsay played and helped produce it. 😊

That album and song are almost impossible to find

The amazing thing is that this song was on the charts in the fall -- for Halloween.

Really sounds like a Fleetwood Mac song. Is Lindsey playing on it too?

I tried to find this track for sale and cannot find it. There is a different version without strevie but not this one
Sort of reminds me of Toto’s Georgy Porgy video. Cheryl Lynn vocals but no Cheryl Lynn.
Where is Stevie in this video? She’s doing the part that sets this apart!
I think she was on the Tusk Tour? Or maybe she was just caught up in the studio with FM. They took forever to record Tusk lol
Lustig, er sieht aus wie der Bruder von Udo Jürgens...
This Hit Record was supposed to give john Stewart' star 🌟 Billing
it Almost succeeded.

I think that entire albim that this song is on - bombs away dream babies was produced by Lindsey Buckingham. He had his touch all through this.
Yes both Lindsey and Stevie are on this song. Lindsay played and sang on most of the album. The guitar on this song is hauntingly Lindsey.
