I've watched the Apollo 11 documentary maybe 6 times now. It's intense. But one of the best things I learned about it was this song.
This song went to the moon and back on Apollo 11. Oh, Mother Country, I do love you.
Yes it was so appropriate. All those men in white shirts who were boys who dreamed and the dream happened in Apollo 11
I'm British and Neil Armstrong hailed from Scotland. Oh mother country I do love you 😂.
Just jesting, well done USA. What an awesome achievement achievement even now, never mind back in 1969 !
76 years old & still haven't "put away the dreams that belong to little boys".......thanks John
what an incredible artist and songwriter!
I grew up on John Stewart & the Kingston Trio. I sure do miss them
I miss John. Great songs.
This guy also wrote Daydream Believer, what a talent!
This is Americana at its best. Thanks John.
When I Returned From My Tour Of Duty In Viet Nam 1969.....My Very First Album I Purchased ...CALIFORNIA BLOODLINES.......MOTHER COUNTRY I DO LOVE YOU.....
I’m a three tour combat Vietnam veteran. 1966,67,68. Discovered John right after I was discharged. He’s been with me and I with him ever since. I miss him so much. Been to many of his concerts. Thank you John for helping me return from those brutal years when I needed his voice and songs so much.
I also returned in 1969 and left SFO as fast as I could. This song was playing on one of many bars....
My memory may not be too good, but while in Army Basic Training at Ford Old, CA., picking up SF radio, this was more popular than Suspicious Minds.
Thanks so much for posting this rare footage of John Stewart. Loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it
I can imagine as the Apollo 11 capsule is re-entering Earth's atmosphere, with this wonderful All-American song playing loud on Buzz Aldrins tape player, during the re-entry stage of their mission. I'm glad the filmmakers picked up on that as they watched archived footage and heard it in the background. If you look into his career he did amazing work with a lot of bands including actor Tim Robbins father to the Monkees... He also had that hit song Gold in the late 70s, although he didn't like it very much he claims he did it for the money. But I thought it was a good song and he made it. His work will be missed but certainly not forgotten.

Is he Johnny Cash's long lost cousin ??
They do look a little bit alike and have similar voices too don’t they?
Adage cutler
Unlikely in 1969
What’a great song and like others I only came across it watching the Apollo 11 documentary
Btw … what or who is Mr. Bluie ?
I think it's Mr Bowie.
