    What year is this model? And when did this rear cargo configuration happen? The earlier models you can’t lay it flat in the back like that.

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  2 місяці тому

      This is the 4th Gen JB74/JB64. They started in 2018. It’s the first model that has the level seats when folded. Even the new 5 door cannot fold seats flat.

    Hey Jono, Anaconda don't ship the storage boxes to Auckland. Where did you get yours from?

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  3 місяці тому

      Great question. I was in Aus for a while and bought them there. I brought them with me to NZ as oversized luggage. But you can get similar products from West Supply in AKL and from Repco.

    Great video bud, have just put an order in for a new Jimny commercial, which is the only model allowed in the U.K. . You have given me a few good options to choose from if and when the car arrives, thankyou.

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  Рік тому +2

      Hey thanks for the comment. Im glad I could be of some assistance. I was quite surprised when I heard that only the commercial was available in the UK. But most people only use the Jimny as a 2 seater anyway. I have seen a few mods in the UK where you can add after market rear seats to the commercial Jimny. Im not sure if it's certified though. Ive been pretty slack with creating content but now that work has cooled off a little I hope to get back to making a few more videos.

    How is the wind noise with those boxes on top while on highways?

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  Місяць тому

      Hey. The Jimny is naturally quite noisy on the inside. I actually don’t find them too noisy. I think most noise with roof racks are generated by the wind being funnelled between the roof and the rack if one does not have a wind deflector. New Zealand speed limits are generally between 80-100 km/h and even if the speed limit is 100, I’m doing 90km by choice or much slower due to the quality and layout of the road. They might be much louder if driving 120km/h.

      @@jonnosjimny thanks, Personally I don't like those wedge shaped aerodynamically sorted top boxes. Thanks for sharing your feedback. These hard shell cases make perfect case for my usage on car and storing in apartment.

    6:55 yeah mate 30Kg, your roof rack is probably around 20-25kg your awning around 5-7 kg... There goes your roof capacity. Insurance might not be too nice to cover you when they find out you have around 50kg load on your roof.

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  10 місяців тому

      Yes. I don’t advise this for daily driving.
      Load bars would be better, along with lighter storage options.
      This is currently above 30kg. Suzuki strongly recommend remaining below 30kg.
      There is the potential for a complication when it comes to insurance.

    How’s the wind drag been with the 2 boxes up there? Noticeable?

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  Рік тому +2

      I notice the weight around corners far more than the wind drag. I’d say I hardly notice the wind drag. With the speed limits here being 100km/h and the roads behind pretty terrible, I’m driving between 90 and 100 most of the time.

    Far to much weight on that roof by the looks of it ….. 30 kg is the limit , if you have a accident insurance won’t like it . As I intend to get a Jimmy eventually I have thought about this problem .

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  10 місяців тому +2

      From what I understand, the only published weight limit published for the JB74 was on a website that was selling the roof rack. No weight limit has been stipulated by Suzuki for the JB74 in the owners manual. You’ll also probably see many driving around with rooftop tents, which I don’t feel is safe based on the handling with a high CoG. You’re probably correct regarding the 30kg dynamic load limit. The handling characteristics are different with the boxes. My roof rack is 14kg and the awning is 6 kg. The boxes are quite light so it would depend on how much weight I put in them.
      Load bars and only one bowls would have been far better to remain closer to the 30kg figure that Suzuki recommends. I do significantly adjust my driving technique when carrying heavier cargo.

      I thought about buying one but if the roof capacity is not more than more or less 30 Kg and you think is not safe to install a roof tent, I think I will choose another car more suitable for this use. Thanks 🙂👍
