Modifying our new Suzuki Jimny - Part 2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 лип 2024
- Welcome back to the Late Brake Show, with a part 2 update on the modifying of the Smith family's project Suzuki Jimny SZ5 (JB74). This was the UK's first privately owned Jimny, purchased in December 2018. Finally, it gets new wheels, all-terrain tyres and some winter ready paint protection (ceramic coating). Plus, as a lot of you ask regularly, Jonny has gone to town on corrosion resistance on the floorpan and chassis of the Suzuki, an easy process that can prolong the lifespan and residual value of newer and classic cars. The underneath is often the forgotten part of a car. Ignore it and the rot will rear its fugly, expensive head...
If you haven't watched the previous installments of the Jimny project, have a watch at the below links:
In this episode the Jimny receives long-lasting ceramic coating paint treatment, rust resisting cavity waxing on the floorpan and chassis, and a long awaited set of fresh wheels and all-terrain tyres.
Purchased in December 2018 after a year of waiting (hounding Suzuki UK), the CarPervert family Jim has covered 17,500 miles and is shortly to require its first MoT test (mandatory every year in the UK for cars under 40 years old).
For the underbody protection Jonny used the following Bilt Hamber products (www.bilthamber.com): Dynax-UB (browny clear), Dynax-UC (clear), Dynax-S50 (for cavities and voids). 750ml aerosol - £14.95.
Wheels are American Racing 'Baja' AR172 in 16 x 8J (0mm offset) and 5 x 139.7. The wheels came from Wheel Pros - www.eu.wheelpros.com
Tyres are General Grabber AT3 in 215/70/16 (www.generaltire.co.uk)
White tyre lettering came from Mr Whitewalls (www.mrwhitewalls.com)

It's been a few years now and I can tell you the Jimny hype has not even slightly wavered. I still get excited every time I see it.
Agreed, and just check the price of second hand, particularly nearly new ones, the prices are eye watering. Demand>Supply = cha-ching.
The Jimny is so fun to drive and own. I know the new/used prices look high, because of demand, but I can still tell you that even paying over the RRP it’s great value if you can appreciate a characterful car like this. There are far worse cars you can spend that kind of money on 🙂
@@cannygrowabeard and the prices will rise in future, since they are not allowed to build them anymore due to emissions etc... and since in 8 years time there will no patrol car anymore build all the desirable cars will keep climbing
@@pnsp33 thanks, and also that they have sold it as a two seat commercial vehicle to get round that in some ways.
Had Suzuki tried a bit harder to fully electrify their other cars this could have been their ICE money-making 'treat'. In a similar way to how the Taycan will prolog the 911 (don't @ me about synthetic fuels)
Thanks so much for entrusting us to work on your Jimny Jonny. It was a real pleasure detailing it for you! The results speak for themselves.
We love the wheels and tyres too!
So glad the cars protected throughout for the winter months now. We should do a recap video when it’s dirty again to show how easy it is to clean up with all the coatings on it? 😁👌
Those wheels with white hand painted lettering looks a million dollars. Transformed the wee Jimny. Excellent.
I concur: I'm a big fan of detail lettering and full on whitewalls... The only thing that could have improved these improvements would have been to have some small and subtle silver or grey pinstriping on the bonnet and tailgate. Maybe not to Chops's taste, though!
6 million dollars? 🤔
The Jimny really does look like a Tonka toy now! Brilliant! The white lettering on the tyres really complete the look.
An insult to the Jimny pedigree.
Tyre lettering looks great, and matches the Suzuki badge nicely. Just need a massive aerial to complete the RC look
A few folks have said the same!
@@TheLateBrakeShow New rims certainly an improvement on the factory set, rustproofing the underside and chassis box sections I would say on the new Jimny is very important, looked underneath mine a few weeks ago and was horrified, rust everywhere, even inside the chassis, doesn't appear to be any cavity wax applied at the factory and quite a few areas just have primer on, no body colour topcoat, very poor if you ask me!!
As long time fans of your content we were excited to get involved in this project, it was a long 16-hour detail but the before and after transformation makes it all worthwhile, we love the look on the new wheels. We look forward to following the progress, we should do a re-cap video to show how the coatings work when it comes to repelling road grime, salt and mud.
I don't think I've ever seen you look happier than when you were polishing that bonnet!
Excellent video showing the Car pervert at his pervacious best. And the Jimny looks SUPERB.
Great video, as always. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Great video, and selection of products on the Jimny.
Listening to the plastic wipe chat with that lad did make me think I was listening in on a conversation at a make-up counter....
Its almost unbelievable what professional detailers can do.
I think I do like the white lettering on that side (and the other) of things.
Love the new wheels, retro and rugged! It’s really fun watching projects like this one come together - thanks for sharing!
The Jimny looks awesome, nice work!
Don't drive it into a lake Johnny! It's not a Lada!!!
That looks hench now!!! The wheels, the white lettering, all those roof bits and the thorough detailing job, all contribute to a stunning little car. Well done Jonny and Nuovo Detailing!!!
Thank you! 🙌
If anyone finds themselves thinking about buying a new car, the best thing you can do is go have the shit detailed out of your old car first, and give it some fresh tires (or even just make sure they’re properly inflated lol)! If you don’t fall in love with it again (you probably will), it’ll look ace AF for the next owner and bring a good resale value. A few hundred (okay thousand if you go nuts with ceramic coating your wheels lol), is always a great investment - especially if it saves you thousands by not buying a new one!!
I did white highlight lettering on my first car ... When my dad looked at it he asked why I had painted "remould" .. I should have taken more notice of what I was painting lol .. I think your white lettering looks cool on the Jimny ..
I'm so relieved you acknowledged that "detailing isn't for everyone": I thought I was the only alien on the planet. Nice wheels! Nice lettering!
Am I the only one who cant stand the term “detailing”… we’re not American 😆
There is cleaning, there is polishing… where did they get “detailing” from?
I'm impressed how, on two occasions, the process of bringing the car inside was highlighted as if we 1, couldn't see that for ourselves, 2, think that it should attract some kind of adulation for the skill and judgement required.
A very smart looking Jimny indeed. Well worth taking the time to prepare a car in this way. Thank you.
I took the plunge in the spring and decided to machine polish and ceramic coat my car. I used the carbon collective pro ceramic range in this vid and I have to say even for non professional, these products are a dream. Comes with plenty of cloths to apply the coating, sturdy bottles and easy to follow instructions on the packaging. I’d also recommend their hybrid shampoo as it helps to protect the coating and improves the already crazy beading/sheeting. Great stuff, really well portrayed in this vid 👍
Love the Wheels! You need an RC Jimny to go with that ;)
Modern Jimny serving up classic Samurai vibes with those wheels and tires. Love it.
Brilliant coating, and splendid wheels
That's attention for your car, the big cleaning. The wheels look great on it!
Bilt Hamber stuff is excellent. The cleaning and polishing stuff too.
The reality of those wheels is really good, not too bling, good tips on the rustproofing always worth doing!
I was a cynic about detailed but seeing this now I’m determined to have my car detailed and then set to work making it a little bit more unique.

Massive fan of The Late Brake Show, and also love Carbon Collective products. So easy to use and have been using them for years! Keep up the great content Jonny, the wheels look so much better than the standard ones! Looking forward to the next project Jimny update
Great job guys, looks showroom fresh, a bit of elbow grease and some tips, excellent
Absolutely loved this, just what I needed. Such depth and care, great background on the products too. So, so interesting every episode. Top man, top job.
Awesome video! Very informative.
I am so glad you rotated the wheel so that the writing matched front to rear
That's just beautiful. The detail is amazing. Thanks
Ever since I so the new Jimmy model. I fell for it instantly. This is my dream car. I love the detail you put into the car. The original Tyres I appreciate but I love the new set of Tyres you installed. Great Job! You pushed me one step closer to making sure I achieve my goal of owning a Suzuki Jimmy one day! Thank You.
Tyre wall white lettering! That's epic. Trend setting. I'll do mine. See you round south Lincolnshire.
Beautiful the baby looks at the end.... The process as you said must have been therapeutic and very satisfying... Enjoyed the stuff
I love the tire lettering!!
Glad this process has made you appreciate what detailing really is. Fantastic video mate.
Perfect, just got to off road now and see how easy to clean the car is after, or the mud could just slide off.
Best thing I’ve ever done to protect my car. I’ve had three cars ceramic coated now. I also protected the underside of my current car with Lanoguard… peace of mind that it should look as fresh in years to come, as the day I took delivery. Highly recommended and great video!
Looks amazing Jonny , I love the white lettering on the tyres . 👍
Drink every time that man says "we're going to lock in the finish"
Not sold on the wheels, like the original look myself, but love the attention to detail 👍
I’m a little (ok, a lot) obsessed with cleaning/detailing and looking after my cars, and it takes me yonks to give them their regular clean, nevermind when it comes to their quarterly decontamination, polish and wax…
Yet here I am, watching this, wanting to do more, go even further. I think I have a problem. Would love the money (and time and space) to be able to do such a detailed job.
Another great video Jonny, as always. Love the diversity of content ❤️
Best products in the game!!! Great vid
Nice to see you Jonny. You need a big long whippy aerial on the roof now. It'll just finish the RC look. Pretty cool though.
Yes to the white lettering! Happy to see more Jimny. It’s what got we hooked on yr channel.
That was a wonderful clip ! Loved the nuances you got into...And Aaron's desire to perfect what he does...Much Learnt !
Another brilliant episode 👍😀 💥
Looks great mate. Thanks for making vids worth watching !
Glad you're feeling better, homie.
Must feel good having a nice, protected Jimny with shiny new boots for winter... I'll be rocking a Ghetto Boxster!
Awesome upgrade to the Jimmy, like the polished wheels, & a bloody good clean, Rj in Oz
Great video. Any more coverage on the decon stage. As this is really important. More people need to know about iron fallout and claying a car before protection.
The footage is definitely there. Maybe we can go more into depth about this with another of Jonny’s videos, and see how the coatings are performing after some real world use…?
Looks absolutely fantastic and those steelies look great for the jimny and keep up the great work and content and happy to see more content on the jimny 👍
Nuovo detailing absolutely smashed it!!!
Thank you so much!! 🙌
I have had General Graber AT on my Toyota 4 Runner for years done about 35,000 miles on them they are really good in snow
Another fine video Jonny! Was about to comment that polished wheels for winter is a brave move... will be interesting to see how well the Carbon Collective treatment looks after them!
Bizarrely... I now find myself looking for a Car Pevert sticker for my Landy! 😳🤣
PS. How come you didn't remove the bonnet brow before detailing & coating Jonny???
We didn't have time in truth....
@@TheLateBrakeShow Fair enough! 😃
Absolutely love it! Great choice in wheel style, wheel size, tyre style, tyre size and the white lettering. Great job. Must be so depressing having to drive it out into the UK weather!
New wheels are brilliant. As you say, looks like an upscaled toy car!
I had the pleasure of driving one on a Greek island (Kefalonia) for work. I was a Holiday Health and safety advisor. So Knew I needed a four-wheel-drive and when I was presented with the Jimmy it was perfect. 1998 white and never serviced or looked after at all. it was the soft-top version and so basic, but it was invincible indestructible, and ideal. I drove it all over the island out to individual properties so access was a challenge six weeks of bliss ...
I say... the little Jimny is now looking fantastic. As you said, just like a life-size RC car! Love it, Jonny.
Looks brill little land cruiser
Looks super cool now Jonny, great choice!
As someone who has an (unhealthy?) interest in detailing and who really enjoys Jonny’s content, this is a truly amazing video. The Jimmy looks epic with both the new wheels and the coatings. Enjoy driving it!
Thank you Dom. Always hard to judge how far to go on a video, as detailing can be devisive.
Looks cool. As a painter, I'm impressed with your steady hand.
White lettering looks ace. Love the polished Baja wheels. Very slick.
Looks fantastic! Now fit a set of plain, standard plates 😎👍
It looks absolutely fantastic!
Jimny came out so good, looks great now. Must say i was clenching when you were spraying rustproofing in the arches and the car was fresly coated. Overspray and all that. White letters look ace.
Really enjoying the videos on your channel keep up the good work 👍👍
Many thanks Michael.
Glad you got the video sorted, good edit!
Cheers ✊🏽
Jimny is simple and verry capable standard without additions. Greetings from a tiny rocky island!
Joined the Jimny club last week.. I love the little jimny and it always makes me smile when I drive it 😁
Your channel has definitely given me loads of modification ideas, keep the videos coming 😁
Awesome job, awesome looking car, thanks for sharing.
Pure class. The whole video and the detailing.
The ride looks amazing! Thanks for another quality video!
I love your passion. Personally I would have liked the wheels to be powder coated satin black, and wondered why you went for polished wheels and white letters. But when the reason is the black HiLux in Back To The Future, I support you 100%! You are genuine!
Interesting video. Was thinking about the under carriage off my Jimny to. Gonna look into that protection as well. 👌
Do it.
Nuovo detailing always do the business. Aarons a top bloke.
Great foreplay.
Love the wheels. Suit it Perfectly!
Not big into detailing but just had a ceramic coat applied to my Clio Trophy and have to say it seems like a great job. Ordered 2 cans of Dynax Ub after watching this - thanks
New rims and tires really set off the rest of the modifications/additions to the Jimny! Nice!
It will be interesting to see what you think in a couple of months.
Looks brilliant Johnny.yes the wheels look dappa🤩👍💚🇬🇧👌and the depth of detail that gentleman gave your car was just out standing😍👍hats off to all his efforts 🇬🇧🇬🇧
The new wheels are amazing! Good choice!
Yet another great video! Really enjoyed the insight on corrosion mitigation!
Love the updates on the Jimny. I'll definitely look into that plastic protector stuff.
Unsure about the wheels you chose, love the AT tyres though! I might even touch up the white paint on my tyres with that stuff too!
Great to see you back!
The Jimmy looks dope! You made all the right choices.
The car looks 100 times better with those wheels, and the white lettering is amazing. Well done !
White lettering FTW! Love it!
Massive fan of you Jonny!!! Had a Jimny for over a year now great car. From Sydney Aus waiting for the Honda E… to come out. Love your channel and your personality.
Can’t wait to see this in the flesh at the Late Brake Show Live.
Love the white lettering and the wheels too
Looks fantastic and so clean.
I saw somewhere that Suzuki are bringing out a 5 door Jimmy! I wonder if it will come to the UK engine emissions permitting of course.
Those rims and tyres are straight 🔥 and the white lettering is legit. Absolutely love it!!
Full size Tamiya car!!! LOL Fantastic video!
Been looking at how best to protect my new M340i. This is a very handy film. And those wheels are superb.
I adore the little Jimny. Love the mods and the wheels look amazing too! I’d love to go town in such depth if my car was new or the paint was in much better condition, but with 16 years of driving it’s not worth too much detail 😞 but car cleaning is very therapeutic hehe. Great video Jonny
