  • DID YOU HEAR A POP?
    Is it a disc bulge?
Probably not...it's more likely to be an end-plate fracture.
End-plate damage occurs when we don't allow adequate recovery time between bouts of heavy loading.
The trabecular bone beneath the end-plate requires time to callus and adapt to large compressive loads, without adequate healing time it just gets progressively broken down.
    DON'T PANIC
End-plate fractures can heal if we give them time to recover and then plan our return to heavy lifting to allow for bone callusing to occur.
If we do, it will adapt to our training demands and grow stronger 💪

About 3 months ago, I had this. I was deadlifting and on 2nd rep i just heard a pop and it started hurting really badly, took about 3-4 weeks for pain to vanish, now tryna decide if i should start deadlifting again

Same thing happened to me. Two pops stood up and couldn’t move from standing position for 2 days. It’s been 3 weeks and now I’m just starting to have most the pain gone but am still worried about deadlifting

Should continue with light & middle weights make sure to do a lot of lower body hip stretches & core stretches. But make sure to check with your doctor I popped my back 4 months ago in the lower back area right above your butt I’d say pain was 40-50% for next 3-4 days I couldn’t bend down properly and always had that sharp pain in my lower back. I went to gym the next week and did light air deadlifts then with low weights and it made my back pain slowly go away took me about 6-7 weeks to deadlift back to 190kg again

Same bro. 18 hours out for me. 2 pops on a 170kg warmup deadlift. I'm less sore today that I should be, because I kept moving yesterday@@musclebone7875

Thanks for this info. The exact same thing happened to me yesterday. (Bit of a background, I'm in my mid 40s and haven't been lifting at all for like 20 years. My muscle memory seems to be still there and I've been making good gains in the last 3 months for people to actually notice. Been losing the weight too which is the reason i started training again so I'm quite pleased to be honest). Anyway, I've been training quite well but in the past couple few weeks been noticing my back getting weaker especially after i started doing Bulgarian squats lately. When i say i weaker i mean it was harder to bend over fully to tie my shoe laces and stuff and have not been able to squat with much weights. There has been no pain or nerve pain, just not as flexible and able to get up from low seats easily. Anyway today as you described i was doing deadlift and on my last set just as i was about to pick up the weight i heard the pop. Now given that I'm person who's quite in tune with his body i knew it may not have been serious because i was still able to walk and rotate my body and stuff but i was so weak in the back i couldn't even hold a 20kg plate and walk around with it or load a bar. I was like what the fuck. I'm better today but i came online to find out what it could be and up popped your video. You seem to have given a good piece of info.
    Kudos.

Heard a pop on lower back when doing deadlift today. Initially didn’t feel much pain but body didn’t feel right after that. Went home and within two hours the stiffness and pain started to come. Now I can’t even Bend over to touch my toes as the pain is too much, hopefully nothing is serious 😢

@@devoncavan6502 Might be end-plate damage. All is not lost, you just need to back off the heavy weight for a while to let the bone callus and heal, then carefully build back up - but be sure to periodise your training to avoid it in the future. BUT be sure to be assessed by a McGill certified coach so that they can test and be sure that is the issue.

@@BrianEllicott thanks for the feedback. I had a rough night sleeping with the aching pain. The pain is progressively getting worse as the day wears on. I’ll give gym a rest for a week to see if the symptoms improve. 👍👍

How long should I lay deadlifts if this happened? It happened again a while after on the same spot when I was doing bent over barbell rows btw

    • @BrianEllicott
      @BrianEllicott  5 місяців тому +1

It depends...upon what has actually happened...you need to get it assessed. Highly recommend seeing a McGill certified practitioner who can run you through structural tests and assess what the damage actually is.
Look up BackFItPro for a list.
