love the monkees then ,now and forever. they were broth toghter to make the world shine with peace and love .watch them every sat on fetv 9-11 bless the monkees and there familys god is good all the time
These are the Monkees I saw in concert when I was young! OMG thank you for finding this. Davy's pink hair streaks to match that shirt! He had those when I saw him!
Ha ha the Monkees influenced me and countless other musicians even though they were criticized for being a made for TV band. I recognized that it was their real voices and Mike, Peter were actually playing their instruments. As an aspiring drummer I was actually copying no less than Hal Blaine and many other studio pros.
I LOVED the Monkees of the 80s! (That's when I became a fan) - Some people are criticizing their clothes or thinking everyone in the 80s was on drugs?? Well, I've never used drugs EVER in my life and I was a crazy Monkees fan. And I also like what they're wearing. :)
L Martinez MTV killed the radio star. They needed good looking entertainers. Who is more good looking than The Monkees? They were certainly one sixties band that didn’t die. Nope, celebrated their fifty year anniversary in 2016.
MAN I LOVE THOSE GUYS! They ispiered me to play music and i am here on youtube under the title Beatles 101 Hard Rock Cafe I play Lennon but no band ever gave me a bigger thrill than the Monkees then or now.
I'm a believer too! And a fan of the Monkees! John 3: 16 - For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Verse 17 - For God didn't send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Obviously, Mike Nesmith wasn't there for that performance--or was he? Wasn't he the head of MTV??
I saw the guys in '86 and '88. At the '86 show we were at the Warwick Musical Circus, an oval stage that rotated. This was the last song of the night. While singing it Micky spotted a young lady in a very tight yellow knit dress shaking it in the balcony. All the guys spotted her too. Micky made it worse when he'd point at her when singing "and I saw her face". He balled up the towel he had over his shoulder and threw it to her but a less than attractive woman dove in front and got it.
@bubblebear83 Mike Nesmith's absence is a shame. He was the reserved one. He is where he is today because of the original fame from THE MONKEES. Never forget where you came from. The energetic & passionate 3 are in this vid. Long life to them. xo
WOW is right ! Mickey could really show his stuff. The end of this one is an amazing showcase for his GutZY ROckIN' VOCALS! They were all terrific but Mickey seems to have sung 8 out of every 10 of their numbers and THIS IS WHY ! ! REAL COOL!
I saw them on this tour. Even then, Davey's hair looked funny on a guy of about 40. Nonetheless, they were fun and funny and truly pros. And Davey got all the young girls to cry when he sang "I Want to Be Free."
The very end of this film clip is sooooo ironic and coincidental. I never watched MTV since it began. Never had cable TV. But, who would have thought back then that when the Monkees finished that song and the announcer then said that one of the the coming musical performances will be done by Whitney Houston there would be future time in which.. well.. now one of the Monkees and Whitney Houston will be remembered for having had departed from this world within days of each other.
Man oh man .. these guys were like our male role models .... my brothers used to rip around the house imitating their moves and hilarity and about drove our mother crazy!!! Lmao
@Joeyland Mike's kind of a hermit. He only pops out occasionally. He performed with them for a few shows back in the mid 90s when they did a tv special and recorded a new album. He performed with them for a short run in Britain at the start of that album's tour. He simply doesn't like touring. Micky too has said that he hates touring (the long drives, staying at various hotels, being away from friends/family), but that the 2 hours actually onstage is his favorite part so he toughs it out.
@Zebonka Its sad no matter what. But yes, John Lennons death was such a horrific tragedy, and he was so young. I did a lot of crying back then. But i'm grieving now, too , even if the circumstances didn't involve violence. To a fan its still like a kick in the gut, just knowing that he's never coming back. :(
The Monkees TV show was the origin of the Monkees. The Monkees started out as actors (who could sing and play instruments, although they weren't allowed to play their own instruments in the beginning) on a TV show about a fictional band. How could you know the Monkees and not know the show? And please, can we not get into arguments about British humor vs. American humor?
@wadyano ya know some people are so fucked up with the repyls rocket scientist ya know some people have to work through out the day as you would say GENIUS
@7855waldo Not sure why you chose to so emphatically respond to my comment as if you know what was inside the reporters head when they wrote it. The reporter clearly wrote The front man. No other way to impterpret that. He should have said one of the front men.
They must have been in their early to mid 40s in this video. It was a time of their "re-emergence" to a younger audience than the original audience they first appealed to in the mid 1960s.
Joeyland He didn’t perform till 1996. That is the year they released their best album, Justus. Then he was scheduled to perform the year 2012. All four were going to tour together. But. .. Davy died. RIP Manchester Cowboy. Mike did perform with them till 2016, when he announced his retirement from The Monkees.
@Joeyland Mike would never appear with them after they broke up the first time, thought himself too good to do that, he did some stuff on his own that I did not like.
Funny people who were young in the 60s said “I’ll take the 60s over the crap that passes as entertainment today” And in 20 years, today’s kids will be saying “I’ll take the 10s over the crap that passes as entertainment today”
I like these guys and find them very entertaining.

Wow.. I loved them then, and I love them still...
These are the Monkees I saw in concert when I was young! OMG thank you for finding this. Davy's pink hair streaks to match that shirt! He had those when I saw him!
Emily Bateman They aren’t streaks. Stage lighting.
use to watch the monkees on nickelodeon in the 80s it was great seeing this performance when it happend

Back when MTV was MTV. Great times.
Some people say that MTV was one thing that killed the music of the 60s
L Martinez MTV killed the radio star. They needed good looking entertainers. Who is more good looking than The Monkees? They were certainly one sixties band that didn’t die. Nope, celebrated their fifty year anniversary in 2016.
Jones is rockin' that mullet. We miss you, Davy. You left too soon.
Me too. I think I am going to change my style to the bohemian look like Peter had. So cool!!
i´m happy to see him again, (estou muito feliz em vê-los de novo e em forma), Arrepiei e vibrei com a galera...parabéns a MTV pela homenagem..
listening to The Monkees Greatest hits....brings back so many good memories.
R.I.P DAVY. PETER. MICKY

デイビーとミッキーの歌唱力は、衰えないですね🎵

when they are dancing at 41 seconds, Mickey was the funniest.
WOW is right ! Mickey could really show his stuff. The end of this one is an amazing showcase for his GutZY ROckIN' VOCALS! They were all terrific but Mickey seems to have sung 8 out of every 10 of their numbers and THIS IS WHY ! ! REAL COOL!
Nostalgia

The Monkees still got the best moves !!
I saw them on this tour. Even then, Davey's hair looked funny on a guy of about 40. Nonetheless, they were fun and funny and truly pros. And Davey got all the young girls to cry when he sang "I Want to Be Free."
AWESOME!

lol…The Monkees. Because of MTV re-airing all the episodes in the 80’s. 😂👍
Peter was smoking hot!! 😢
Wow. MTV performance! Later this year MTV banned The Monkees and they had to promote their album, Pool It, elsewhere.
Man oh man .. these guys were like our male role models .... my brothers used to rip around the house imitating their moves and hilarity and about drove our mother crazy!!! Lmao
Did you first become aware of them in 1986?
L Martinez No ... waaay back when they first started ... ancient history now.
@Joeyland Mike's kind of a hermit. He only pops out occasionally. He performed with them for a few shows back in the mid 90s when they did a tv special and recorded a new album. @MOONST0MP It was hilarious! One of the few TV shows that made me laugh out loud and still does.
I haven't yet.
THANK YOU AN ....
THAT'LL BE ALL FROM YOU HOPEFULLY
Wow, with the founder of MTV...Peter Tork!!
Arthur Gonzales Mike’s concept. He sold the idea and MTV was born.
@at90percent I think maybe they said that because Micky was usually in the back playing drums
Absolutely Fabulous. Its really fun- you should rent it or something.
MTV better then the crappy shows these days.
@MOONST0MP Davy's mullet rules! How could you not know Davy was short? (5' 3") It was a running joke on the show.
@MOONST0MP The Monkees TV show in the 60s
Sorry for your loss, Monkees fans. But hey - at least your guy didn't get shot :S
@funkychick60 yeah, i remember that , it used to be on TV on a saturday mornin in the early 80s but i never watched it, it was crap.
An article on Davy's death called him THE front man. I guess they forgot about Mickey.
Pianoman 70s style Davy was the frontman, Micky was the lead singer.
very miami vice
Nice mullet Dvy
elle king
I WANT MY MTV !!!!!!!!!!! 1981 -2000 ?? WHAT STEVE PERRY IS BACK ? LET THE MONKeES open for you !! MTV VMAS 2018 AEROSMITH closed the show .
@funkychick60 It means do you live in America?
I think Davy was 40, and Micky was 41. Both '45. One at the beginning and one at the end.
The Monkees TV show was the origin of the Monkees. The Monkees started out as actors (who could sing and play instruments, although they weren't allowed to play their own instruments in the beginning) on a TV show about a fictional band. How could you know the Monkees and not know the show?

@Cologrl86, and you were greeted by Radio Killed The Radio Star. Sad but true but MTV killed music as we knew it over time itself.
Wolfen443 Video killed the radio star. More like MTV killed the radio star because on tv you couldn’t just be talented, good looks were way important.
@wadyano ya know some people are so fucked up with the repyls rocket scientist ya know some people have to work through out the day as you would say GENIUS
@spikeman14 that was the idea once, wasnt it
@MOONST0MP I didnt ask you what it meant...what does it have to do with the Monkees?
@7855waldo Not sure why you chose to so emphatically respond to my comment as if you know what was inside the reporters head when they wrote it. The reporter clearly wrote The front man. No other way to impterpret that. He should have said one of the front men.
Better check on Skywalker Sound
What? Yes I do remember the TV show. It was on the telly all the time when I was a kid. What is your point here??
@funkychick60 Really? Are you American?
where was Mike?
@funkychick60 What show?
Davy was 41, Peter was 44 and Micky was 42.
So peter is the oldest?
L Martinez Yup, the studio wanted Mike to be the oldest just for the show.
SO WHAT HAPPIN TO MIKE,WAS HE NO LONGER IN THE GROUP AT THIS TIME?
DJMAGICMIKE101 Right. Toured in 2012 and then 2012-2016
@MOONST0MP what kind of a question is that?
Do you know the exact air date? Thanks!
Where is Nesmith?
Ueber-eighties clothes!
@ShamWasBetter1973 heart attack, genius.
At the end of this they also show that Whitney Houston is to perform... two people gone too early. RIP Davy Jones...
One of them is missing
@SigfridsTardis 80's fashions were the absolute WORST! ...except for mullets. Davy ROCKED that mullet!
I wonder how old they are in this video. Other than peter, davy and mickey look so OLD.
They must have been in their early to mid 40s in this video.
It was a time of their "re-emergence" to a younger audience than the original audience they first appealed to in the mid 1960s.
What is ABFAB???
wheres mike?
Joeyland He didn’t perform till 1996. That is the year they released their best album, Justus. Then he was scheduled to perform the year 2012. All four were going to tour together. But. .. Davy died. RIP Manchester Cowboy. Mike did perform with them till 2016, when he announced his retirement from The Monkees.
@just1again yeah those outfits were pretty awful, esp Micky's...but Davy could pull off a mullet for sure!
*Micky
@Joeyland Mike would never appear with them after they broke up the first time, thought himself too good to do that, he did some stuff on his own that I did not like.
bd9598 Nope, performed with them in 1996, promoting the best Monkees album ever, Justus. Then again 2012-2016.
peter was hot
I'll take the 80's over the crap that passes for entertainment today. Take me back.
They were not originally of the 80s but two decades before that.
L Martinez This performance was in the 80’s so some people might not get the vintage.
Funny people who were young in the 60s said “I’ll take the 60s over the crap that passes as entertainment today”
And in 20 years, today’s kids will be saying “I’ll take the 10s over the crap that passes as entertainment today”
