Absolutely marvelous!!!! Thanks so much for this vid. Only yesterday I was struggling to work out how to do the open neck shirt collar cuts and today you've shown me !! Your head/face carving is uncannily life like. Love everything about this little caricature Kevin. ATB.
I really like your carved characters. It's a joy to watch you carve them too. Two thumbs up Kevin. I do however wish you would show the painting of them too.
Kevin ... I am in absolute awe of your carving ability!!! I truly am. I am a beginning novice who is acquiring his initial carving tools and gear one piece at a time starting with safety glove, thumb guard and quality strop and polishing media. It would be an honor to have one of your figures for my small collection. Specially, would it be possible to purchase your “Whittling Buddy” figure? It would be a very prized addition to my collection. It would kinda be like my inspiration ... of what is possible and what excellence looks like. Either way, I love your videos and channel. I am averaging one video a day since I discovered you last week. Of course, I am proud to be a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing your talent, knowledge and experience with me and the rest of UA-cam!!! That said, I’ll close. I sincerely wish you and yours all things great and good!!!! Take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠🐩🖖
RrKevevin, man you are something else " I am 90 been carving 40 years, hooked on waterfowl but cannot spend the hours any more .Was Looking at my computer the other nite and noted all you guys and gals envoled in the joyful endeavor of picking up a piece of the right wood in one hand and your favorite knife in the other and create something beauty and joy. I have experienced joy. Kevin, I have served as a judge in many top shows and brought home lots awards, I have been Blessed. I said all of this to say you are also Blessed . I have really admired your work as well teaching while you carve . By the way ,where did get that. snub nose bulldog of knife that you, use. Got to
Kevin, i must be blind or my iPad is not picking up on the far left of my screen. Any ideas from you or any of your viewers how I can see them. They are so helpful. Love your work so much. You are an excellent encourager to us trying to learn this craft. Thanks for sharing your talent with.
Your attention to detail hinges on compulsion. One must have to whittle 100's of figures to determine where to place creases and cuts, etc. What % of wood is removed from the block until the 'fella' creatively emerges? Whittle on! 🍀
Really appreciate your videos and looking forward to getting started again. Im gonna try to use pine braches I find in the forest. I've recently priced live edge basswood and butternut and unless I'm assured Im gonna sell it would be fine but, its incredibly expensive. Its a shame butternut is going extinct
And here I was going to throw out those Old Hickory steak knifes I have had no longer and use for. I will reutilize a couple by shortening the blade and use as a carving tool. Great video.
Beautiful job as always. I see that NO NO spot of your thumb is about grown out. You need to keep that right thumb and index finger out of places they don't belong. Thanks for the video.
It never stops amazing me how many characters you come up with from roughly the same size wood, Do the names come from people you know or do you have a name book? thanks for sharing.

Thanks Lynn. Some of these old knives can still be valuable
You are the master.
I wouldn’t say that but thank you
Love watching you work. I assume you made that knife yourself. I am amazed at what you accomplish with it.
Thanks Tom. It was a fish knife. I fashioned it a little for carving

Thanks Jerry. I get lots of knocks on my hands. I don’t expect that will change anytime soon. 👍🏻
Bravissimo mi piacerebbe imparare.
You ought to do an old fashioned pilot with the leather hat and goggles :)
Maybe one day I will give it a go
Ok love your work
Thank you

Thanks. A lot of the characters I do come from memories. The old timers I remember from when I was a kid
What sort of wood do you prefer to carve?
White pine is the best I can get here where I live. I’m quite happy with that
Hey Kevin what size knives are you using?
The repurposed fish knife is 2.5”. The flexcut is similar or maybe a little less.
What kind of wood do you use?
Is that a cut off knife that you made?
Yeah it was a fish knife. I cut 4”-5” off
Wicked job .
Thank you Mikey

Lovely to watch. What is the heavy knife you use?
Thanks.its a repurposed fish knife
Kevin Coates Thank you so much for the response. Good steel with a good edge I can hear it slicing. Carry on the good work.
