I’ve watched a lot of wood spirit videos over the last couple of days, and this one has many of the same steps as the others ones, but done in a way that is much more straight forward and understandable, thank you! I could see this as being my go to video for making wood spirits in the future,
This shit blows my mind. Everytime I see someone carve a face but especially when they are this well done 👏. Thank you. May God bless you your loved ones and all fortunate enough to see this 🙏❤.
Great carving Kevin. Really enjoy your channel and the tutorials. They really help and inspire a novice like me. Thanks for taking the time and putting in the hard work.
Excellent. I learn something every time I watch your videos. I've done at least a half a dozen of your pieces now and they are easy to follow and complete. Silence is golden! Thank you.
Hi Kevin, Great video the addition of the comments is very helpful. I am enjoying watching your videos they inspire me to keep chipping away. Thanks very much for your time and effort making them.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost my login password. I love any help you can give me
Hi Kevin I was just thinking about your channel yesterday, nice to see you back. I envy how you can carve such perfect eyes in all of your pieces. Hoping the weather has been great in that wonderful province of yours. All the best...
Thanks Denis, I haven’t had much time to do videos lately. I’ve been flat out carving trying to fill orders. I had lots of troubles doing eyes first when I started carving. I would take scrap pieces of wood and do eyes over and over. It do get a little easier in time. The weather hasn’t been great. Colder than usual but I’m not complaining.
Awesome video. A friends dad used to carve these and I loved them. Never thought itd be something I could do. Definitely going to give it a try. Thanks!
I like your vids. Doug Linker mentioned your name and here I am . Watched two vids and subbed Right away. Now I'm binging. That's some nasty scar across the back of your left arm. I'm left handed also. Thanks for sharing. Rick.
Just earned a sub for that knife i made one so close to the same out of an old japanese kitchen knife love it! i angled mine more at the tip so its also my detail knife when i choke up nice fine point. your videos are awesome!
Idk if you run this channel yourself or if you see the comments at all, but thank you. Without guys like you making videos like this, i would have never known i could do something like this.
As I go about trying to learn to do this, one thing becomes very apparent. There are folks, like yourself, who are just artistically inclined. Then there are those, such as myself, who seem to do better where a big hammer and chisel is required. 😂 Great video. I shall keep plugging away at it!!👍
Great video. Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s nice to not have the “music “ playing in the background. Please keep up the great work and the great videos.
This knife is 45-50 years old. It may be a Green River knife. Not sure if it’s this one or one of the others I have. Amazon I think has the Green River boning knife. Maybe $20-$30
Great video superb skills can you tell me a bit about the detail knife and the best way to keep it razor sharp I seem to keep breaking noses and beaks of when I use mine pfiel 14 knife
Thanks. The knife I use for detail is a flexcut roughing knife. Sharpening knives take lots of practice the same as carving does. I’ve been at it for 20 years and I’m still learning carving skills and how to keep my knives sharp. The best advice I can give is just keep at it.
I found two Chicago Cutlery kitchen knives on Walmart internet. Wood handles. One straight with a shorter blade and one with a finger guard, it was a meat carving knife. I ordered them. Will cut the blades shorter to carve wood with. I think the blades are carbon steel. They look like Kevin's carving knives he made from fishing knives.

Thank you. All is good. Just a little too busy for doing videos lately
Buenos días me puedes decir usted qué clase de madera usa para hacerlo yo los hago con madera de pino pero es una madera muy dura
It’s eastern white pine. A very soft wood. There are some different pines I’ve carved that has been very hard. Jack pine being one

Qual tipo de madeira vc usa ?
What kind of wood are you using and do you pre-soak you're wood
It’s white pine. I haven’t tried soaking it

Muchas gracias por este video !! Me gustaria saber que madera uso !!
Thanks. The wood is eastern white pine
What kind of wood do you use! Because that looks cool
Thanks. Pine
wonder what this wood would look like with a light wash of blue ink, like an icicle i imagine
(also; subbed 👍👍)
Thank you. It would look fine. My opinion. Go for whatever you think is OK 👍
@@KevinCoates98 hey quick (i hope) question; what'd you say the most barebones kit is? like, I was looking at flexcut, which single knife should I buy? and for sharpening etc extras
I like this knife shape. Almost a "cleaver" What type/kind/brand is it?
It was originally a fish fillet knife
Not sure but could be a Green River
@@KevinCoates98 Ah, you altered it. It seems very functional for carving. I have a slightly larger, cleaver-profile pocket knife from Gerber that I carry. I'll hafta see what I can get up to with that on a bit of wood.
👍👍👍!!!!!
Thanks
De qué es esa madera?
impressive...
Thank you
Hey what degree do you sharpen your knife to,if you dont mind me asking
I can't say to be honest on the degree. Maybe somewhere near the thickness of a dime or a nickel between the knife and stone.
Thanks so much
Is that a homemade knife? If not, what company? I could use one- looks handy.
It’s a repurposed fish knife. Amazon I was told carried similar ones. Green river boning knife
