    You did a great job carving this character from white pine. Kudos to you! When I was a beginner woodcarver, I used to make all of my figurines with head straight forward and arms straight to the sides. Later I decided to turn their heads one way or the other, and either put their hands folded behind their backs, or have one of their hands holding something, while the other hand was in its pocket. And I also had his/her eyes looking to the corners instead of just straight ahead. All of these things brings character and personality to the figurines, and suggests movement, instead of a static, rigid, motionless pose. Sometimes just a little thing can create the illusion of movement, such as hair blowing in the wind, a side of the jacket/coat lifted by the wind, etc. I think you get the idea. Nonetheless, I appreciate you sharing your skills and carving with us. Thank you very much!

    Fantastic carving Kevin. Another piece of, what looks like the allusive kiln dried white pine, turned into a masterpiece. I wish I could find some place to get some. Thanks for another great video.

    I have sent for two wood handled kitchen knives and will shorten them to carve with. Looks easy but I know it will be a challenge to carve a wood figure. My hands will be weak at first, I'm sure. Carving will strengthen them. I'll follow your videos while carving. I'm also a left handed person. Thank you much. Jim

    Always enjoy watching your videos. You make it look so easy. I notice you make your blanks fairly detailed to begin with. I would like to see you make the blank on your band saw from the very beginning. Just something to think about for a future video. And can you recommend a good source for patterns? Thanks!

    Hi, Kevin. You are amazing at wood carving - I kind of want to BE you. Or like you when it comes to carving. I try to imitate what you do, but i need a good start, so I would very much like to know the measures in three dimensions on all the fantastic pieces you make. I mean in the beginning before you start carving. It would help a lot. Thanks anyway - you are the best, and very inspirational. Best regards from Norway.

    • @KevinCoates98
      @KevinCoates98  5 років тому

      Thanks Vidar. I put it in the description sometimes. That is when I remember to. The 8” figures I use a block of wood 8”X3”x2”. For the little ones 4”x2”x2”. That’s roughly what they are. I will try to remember to put it in from now on

    Kevin, do you sharpen your knives before you start a project? They always look so sharp. And do you wipe oil on them to keep them from rusting? But since you use them every day, they don't have time to rust. Haha.
