These videos never get old, do they. Loved this demo. I used to make a "chopped" salad that I coppied from one I had up in Yosemite at a restaurant at the end of a hike. We have 4 kids, and they all got it and wanted me to make it. I just cut it fine, but little by little I drifted away from having it any more. I still remember a lot of the ingredients, but yours looks absolutely wonderful. Those vinegars seem so good. I have to look into getting some of them. Love the bowl and knife. I saw it on Chef AJs channel too. So glad you showed it. Looking forward to more.
I know the holland bowl is expensive but it is truly worth it!! Save until you can get one. It’s amazing. Thank you for sharing Tami and Tom. Especially making this way of eating easy and possible for low income people. ❤

So excited, my Beechwood Holland Bowl was on our front porch when we came home from watching our four grandkids in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania! Pulled up this video and it was so helpful to see how you explained how to chop the salad and use the mezzaluna knife! Even though we arrived home later than our usual dinner, I couldn't wait to use my new bowl! I sauteed mushrooms and red onions in water, added shredded carrots, and quinoa ( which I prepped earlier and froze in my "Souper Cubes"). Then chopped spring mix and spinach in my new bowl! I did not eat out of the wooden bowl, but put everything in a large salad serving bowl, then added apple cider vinegar and "Table Tasty", and a little ground cumin...Wow, what a delicious salad! You have taught me so much and I am very grateful for your knowledge and sharing it with us! I got my Holland Bowl engraved on the bottom: "Laurie's Kitchen" and the place we just moved to, and the date we moved! It is so special and I love it! A wonderful Easter gift :)

I was so inspired by you that I took to heart everything you said and demonstrated. Love my Holland Beech bowl and knife. I still continue to put the fruit in our salads; I lay them right on top like you showed us. And if we decide we want to do a Mexican theme salad, we'll pull out the fruit and munch on them, while everything else is being put together. I absolutely love how juicy the chopped salad comes out with the fruit in it. Today we tried the Balsamic vinegar on the salad, and it was delicious. Wonderful! This is so much like my daily salad, except I don't chop it in a wooden bowl, but regularly with a knife. I call it my spoon salad, as everything is chopped so small you can eat it (and I do) with a spoon. Incorporating cooked starches has been a game changer for me. It makes the salad as filling as it is nutritious. I also like to dress it with salsa or homemade Sriracha. Love your videos!

So easy to follow you and Tom (just finding your channel!). I have genetic high cholesterol and was told even if I ate ONLY salad my cholesterol would be high. I had a 6-vessel bypass May 26, 2019. I am on my own with this lifestyle, hubby says he wouldn't be able to do it, so he is at least doing the intermittent fasting (which you are actually doing with your timed eating). I need all the tips I can get. My issue, I never know how much food is "enough".
I am glad you found us too! I too have high cholesterol just naturally! Eating this way keeps it in check. Start paying attention to how you feel before you start eating and then during eating, pause and pay attention to how you feel. Do you feel full and satisfied. If unsure stop eating and wait 10 minutes or so and see if you are still actually hungry. It takes a while to tune into your real hunger but eventually you will recognize when you have had enough. Be sure to watch my video all about my friend AL and how he reversed his heart disease. ua-cam.com/video/kyV3XYp6tJM/v-deo.html Happy New Year!

I have my own handed down wooden bowl but need a mezzaluna knife. shoukd I get a one or two bladed mezzaluna? what is the difference? I noticed you use a one blade, does Holland bowl mill sell the mezzaluna by itself?
Wondering if the free knife is still available with your link? Just want to buy a knife if it’s not included. Thank you so much! I am so excited to try this and I LOVE your videos!!!
Yes the knife is still included for free when you use our link and your order is a minimum $125 - they have a promotion right now where you get a 10% discount for the month of April. They can't ship until the state of Michigan allows them to go back to work. But you can order now and take advantage of the sale price.
Thank you for what you do for a lot of people Ms Tami. I'm very new to the salads and to the base plant diet. I have no doubt of the benefits of consuming vegetables. I was super excited for the first week when I first started to experience with the chopped salads. It is getting overwhelming to figure out the amounts of the veggies that conform it. I really want to keep making the salads, and eventually stop eating animal food, and mostly influence my children. Any advise on how to keep going and not get discouraged? 💕
Just keep trying until you find the combinations that work best for you and satisfy your taste buds. Some people put cut up veggies and store then in the fridge in quart canning jars and let everyone build their own salads with a bed of greens and adding from the jars all the toppings they want.
Latecomer here someone sent me to your link when I made a comment wishing there was a whole book of jar salads as we need to make our salads ahead & they must be portable & last a day or 2 in refrigerator. Really like your videos have watched a few now some great tips! When you prep salad do you ever need to put a paper towel in bottom of containers first?
Hello Linda Many subscribers have told us that that works for them. we don't seem to need to but we are rinsing and drying the romaine befor we prep. we discuss this a bit in this video (top tips for the best chopped salad) ua-cam.com/video/RpoPHEfzEGo/v-deo.html
Tami, what’s the difference between the mezzaluna knife vs. the ulu knife? Which do you prefer and why? Also, FYI - I made a small batch of jalapeño powder using my dehydrator and it really is good on the salad. I like the kick. Great suggestion. 👍🏻
Hi Sunny, The mezzaluna knife has a different larger handle and the blade is curved with no points on the ends. The Ulu knife that I have has a smaller wood handle than the free mezzaluna knife from Holland Bowl. The Ulu knife has sharp points at each end of the blade. I have grown to prefer the mezzaluna knife - I think it is more gentle on the wood bowl than the sharp pointed Ulu knife. But my husband Tom prefers to chop his salad with the Ulu knife. So in our house both get used! I am so glad you like the jalapeno powder - it does add a nice kick to the salad. Noel why do you need to know the calories? On a while food plant based diet we don’t need to count calories. Having said that, on average non starchy vegetables are 100 calories per pound. If you have a pound of salad with only non starchy vegetables it would be around 100 calories. Then you would have to calculate the calories of all the ingredients you add to it. Be sure to watch my Calorie Density video.
Nutmeg Notebook got it, thank you for your reply! I’m on a plant based diet for other health related reasons where I have to pay attention to calorie intake too and I’m new to all of this. I just was curious how I would calculate if I needed a round about for calorie total for something like this. I’m going to give the chopped salad a try this weekend! Thank you for the inspiration!
It all depends on what size or shape you want things to be - chopping in the bowl is different than dicing on a flat cutting board. It's an individual choice.
Hello Lula, Yes they do sell it that way but that does include being charged for the Mezzluna Knife (built into the price for the set.) It is shipped free with no add on charge when you use my link in the description. If you used the link and already ordered it give them a call and they will sort it out for you. Happy Chopping! Tami
Hi, loved the Video and I can’t wait to try making my own chop salad! Question for you, does the type of wood ball make a difference? For example the Ebonized cherry bowl on their website, can you use that to chop as well? TIA!
You can use beechwood, cherry, maple or walnut. We just interviewed Kory from Holland Bowl a few days ago and there are some specials for Nutmeg Notebook viewers. See the video here ua-cam.com/video/MGBbRqCK2kI/v-deo.html

Love your channel. I’ve been vegan almost 2yrs and love it!! However, on social security I could not possibly afford or even justify saving for such an expensive bowl and knife.....do you know of less expensive ones? I just ordered a bright green plastic rectangle, deep "bowl" with a heavy bottom for choppng. Comes with chopping knife. From Amazon. Company name Messless. $24.99. Good reviews. I would love a wooden bowl too, but my budget led me to this one. I just found your channel, Tami, and watched four of your enjoyable videos tonight. I'm anxious to start making your chopped salads. Thank you.
Tami, because I live alone and rarely prepare meals for more than one persone, I was wondering if you would still recommend a 15-inch bowl or if a 12 inch might be enough in this case? Oh... I wrote my question at the beginning of the video (now I'm editing my comment towards the end), so I realise that this was one salad for one person! I thought you were making it for two persons! I guess that answers my question! :-)
I eat the entire salad - it is my breakfast and lunch! If you haven't already be sure to subscribe and also visit the blog and subscribe at www.nutmegnotebook.com and get your 2 exclusive recipes just for subscribers!
Thanks for letting me know as it's 2.30am Wednesday the 10/07/20. I'm watching your video about the health science magazine can I get it over here in the UK? As I would really be interested so if you could find out that would be great thank you Beverley 🤗
So, to clarify - one of the 9 cup containers is one serving, right? I can eat the whole container myself, chopped. However, I found when I add toppings, the size can get out of control. Today, I took a container, chopped it, put it in my bowl and began to add 1/2 cup chick peas, 2 TBSP sunflower seeds, 1/2 an avocado, 1/2 a cucumber, and 4 cherry tomatoes. Honestly, I could barely finish it. I had to forego any cooked vegetables I had prepared. Just wondering if you find it to be a lot of food? Thanks.
For us one container is a salad for one person. For us it is the perfect size meal. However we are not topping our salads with the higher fat more calorie dense foods like sunflower seeds and avocado. Those two items make the salad higher calorie and may have contributed to you getting full quickly. Although seeds and avocado are healthy whole plant foods they are not helpful for weight loss if that is your goal because they are calorie dense. The idea of eating a large salad for one meal of the day is to get in plenty of nutrient dense dark leafy greens and other vegetables. We add some starch to our salads but try to keep the calorie density of the foods we add low so we can enjoy the whole salad and benefit from the nutrients from the vegetables. Maybe try the salad without the calorie dense additions. Hope that helps. Be sure to subscribe to the blog for more recipes and ideas. www.nutmegnotebook.com
When I click on your Ground Jalapeño Pepper cite at Amazon it takes me to an electrical item. It takes me to the same wrongpage when I click on your influencer page on Amazon.
Hello Pam No, we have not had to do that, we use the mezzaluna knife and the ulu knife and Tom does keep them both sharp with the "sharpening steel" from our knife block .Our bowl certainly has a rough "texture" on the inside after being used every day for over a year, but no gouges. Maybe our has so many cuts now that it looks like a uniform surface? :-) It would be fine to sand it though, just use the bowl dressing from HBM or some mineral oil afterwards. (Do this monthly) We show a vegan version of cutting board oil on our amazon shop page. Be sure to subscribe to this youtube channel and please also join us on the blog site. www.nutmegnotebook.com Happy Chopping Tami
45 minutes to eat, that allows for good conversation right?? Not sure I could eat that much at one sitting unless I took a lot of time!! And I worry that I would get tired of something that tastes the same throughout. (all my life, I have kept my foods separate so I could taste each flavor, always saving the best for last!! my former husband would take a bit of everything on his plate with each fork full....that was like eating a casserole to me!!

Try the plantains in the air fryer omg yum! My favorite! Sweet gooey dessert!
Thank you we have made them that way!

Jicama would be something new to try, thanks for the reminder. I bought bok choy recently and enjoyed it cooked and raw, it's one of Dr. Esselstyn's top greens. Not sure if it would be best as part of the initial prep or added later though. Thanks for another helpful video!
I really like bok choy and it's good chopped up raw in salads! Be sure to subscribe to our channel and subscribe to our blog for more recipes and tips. www.nutmegnotebook.com

Where do you buy oat groats? What section is it in the store?
Your videos are so inspirational! I ordered my bowl and I can't wait to use it.
Have fun!
It's too expensive for me but thank you!
what bowl size are you using?
@@NutmegNotebook Thank you so much Ms. Tami. I will follow this advice 💕
Yum! Don't forget to shake those amazing vinegars before using! (Did you know they are fermented for 25 years?)
Hello Linda
Many subscribers have told us that that works for them. we don't seem to need to but we are rinsing and drying the romaine befor we prep. we discuss this a bit in this video (top tips for the best chopped salad) ua-cam.com/video/RpoPHEfzEGo/v-deo.html
Since you are preparing the salads in bulk in a large mixing bowl, how would I get an idea of the calories per each individual salad portion?
Do you use your chopping bowl to chop the peppers, jicama etc. before you store them to add later to the lettuces?
It all depends on what size or shape you want things to be - chopping in the bowl is different than dicing on a flat cutting board. It's an individual choice.
1/23/2020 They now have a 15” Chopping Bowl that comes with a Mezzaluna Knife 🥳 FREE shipping ‼️I will be using your link. Thank You 😊
Hello Lula,

Hi, loved the Video and I can’t wait to try making my own chop salad! Question for you, does the type of wood ball make a difference? For example the Ebonized cherry bowl on their website, can you use that to chop as well? TIA!
You can use beechwood, cherry, maple or walnut. We just interviewed Kory from Holland Bowl a few days ago and there are some specials for Nutmeg Notebook viewers. See the video here ua-cam.com/video/MGBbRqCK2kI/v-deo.html
Great and thank you!

Off topic........ but can you talk about your hair. It always looks professionally done. Do you blow dry it yourself?
LOL! Your comment made me laugh out loud. I blow dry my own hair. I have a wonderful stylist who gives me a precision cut which makes my job easier. Nutmeg Notebook tami who is your stylist? I live in Folsom, and I am always on the lookout for a great stylist.
Let me check with her and see if she is accepting new clients as the last time I asked her she didn't have time in her schedule for any more clients.
I can’t find the wooden sleeve that holds the mezzaluna knife that you use in one of your videos on HM’s website ... any advice? Just got my bowl and knife and am so excited! Used your affiliate link, too😀
Thank you for your support! Enjoy that salad. The Mezzaluna knife holder is on this page hollandbowlmill.com/product/mezzaluna-knife-holder/
Just wanted to ask about how much do you budget each week for salads? I would love to have a salad everyday but am restricted by my budget and wanted to ask what might be reasonable to spend. Thanks
Unless you live where I do and shop at the same stores the cost won't mean anything because cost of groceries is regional. Price what you would like to put in your salads at the stores you have available and find out which ones carry the things you want at the best price. Thank you for watching and commenting! Love your channel. I’ve been vegan almost 2yrs and love it!! However, on social security I could not possibly afford or even justify saving for such an expensive bowl and knife.....do you know of less expensive ones? Really less expensive 😅 I love the chop salad too but buy it already chopped. I would prefer doing it myself. TY
Thank you for your kind comment.!

Thank you for watching. Yes I am chopping salads for one person.
Is the free knife with the affiliate link offer still valid?
Yes, absolutely
just use this link

@@NutmegNotebook- thank you; I kinda thought that was my problem. Time to hit the reset: back off avocado, nuts and seeds. Got it.
You've got this! Keep me posted on how it works for you!
When I click on your Ground Jalapeño Pepper cite at Amazon it takes me to an electrical item. It takes me to the same wrongpage when I click on your influencer page on Amazon.
Thank you for letting us know, we changed both to a current other brand listing on amazon.
I need a creamy vegan ranch dressing.
Have you tried this one Kristen?

Tami, do you ever sand your bowl on the inside? Mine really has some cuts on it and I was concerned about that, yours doesn't look at cut up as mine!
Hello Pam
No, we have not had to do that, we use the mezzaluna knife and the ulu knife and Tom does keep them both sharp with the "sharpening steel" from our knife block .Our bowl certainly has a rough "texture" on the inside after being used every day for over a year, but no gouges. Maybe our has so many cuts now that it looks like a uniform surface? :-) It would be fine to sand it though, just use the bowl dressing from HBM or some mineral oil afterwards. (Do this monthly) We show a vegan version of cutting board oil on our amazon shop page.

The trouble with a chopped salad is that every bite tastes the same.
That is one of the things I love about it! ❤️ Every bite is delicious!
What is the is the link?
Are you sharing this salad with your husband?
No I eat the whole thing myself.
Thank You!
