Reading these comments is pretty awesome. A majority (75+%) never even served in the military yet they want to judge? The Coast Guard isn't a branch designed to fast rope into battle, yet they save lives every single day, stop drug and sex trafficking, rescue drowning victims, recover lost vessels, put out fires at sea...the list goes on. I served with some pretty tough men and I have also had the honor of serving with some very hardened Coasties too. Stand fast before you past judgment. Semper Fi
I also full heartedly agree. This is a branch I would be honored to join, however they do not have any of my areas of study. I would definitely recommend it though.
How correct you are. We all like to bust each others balls about things. It builds camaraderie, however, a civilian talking shit is a no-go. My friend joined the CG and his first op was a gunfight. Its not what you see on television. I love couch potato operators though, they're the best.
I retired from the Marine Corps back in 2007. Like most Marines I have been places that you don't find on any travel adds and have done things most people can't comprehend. With that being said, some of the hardest people to ever put on a uniform come from the Coast Guard. If you think they are soft, go jump out of helicopters into open ocean during damn near hurricane force winds for a living and get back to me. If you want to crack jokes about my Navy brothers too, go ahead. I bet none of you would last 48 hours in Field Medical school. Semper Fi.
+rdsii64 Thank you, Marine. I served seven years on the USN, with three years aboard the USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3) in the "Gator Navy." Very proud to have been part of the Navy/Marine Corps Team. Also, very proud to have witnessed my Marine shipmates tribute to their fallen brothers on Iwo Jima, as we sailed past Mt. Suribachi, during a rain squall. The Marines mustered on the flight deck, in silent formation, as the rain came down and the wind howled, as we sailed past that hallowed ground. I think I can still hear those heroes from the past telling us, "You've got the watch now, make us proud."
you cant really compare aviation survival technicians (rescue swimmers) with the rest of the coast guard as it would be like comparing recon marines to the rest of the Marine Corps fleet. jumping from a helicopter is a specialty mos that could be comparative to special forces, recon, or any other elite operating force and there are very few rescue swimmers in the Coast Guard as they have a very high attrition rate, somewhere upwards of 80%. the rest of the puddle pirates are stationed on small boats much like the navy only for shorter timespans, usually a few weeks or attached to a aircraft squadron as mechanics. I will give props to them as what they do is quite a feat but they are an elite force albeit a small portion of the coast guard
I did 4 years in the US Navy and then 21 years in the US Coast Guard, and I retired in March 2014. The US Coast Guard has taught me a lot, and helped me be a better person! Semper Paratus! 🇺🇸 Never give up!
I was in the Army, but I have much respect for the Coast Guard. They're training is badass, and they do things out in that ocean I know many would be terrified to do.
I spent two summers in Cape May and I would watch the Coast Guard train on the beaches EARLY in the morning from the shopped where I worked. VERY impressive in every aspect. These men and women deserve SO much more credit than they are given. They work hard, and do an extremely thankless job.
Chris Le Some of these Social Justice Warriors and all the rest of the irrelevant groups need to go not the service for as long as it takes to shut them up.
Rachelle Fernandez we are the least paid branch by the government actually, and if you want to get more in depth we all get paid on the same pay scale, and not all of us live by the beach I actually in the Kansas at an air station so..... argument invalid
Rachelle Fernandez and while your sitting at home commenting on a video living off the government I'm busy in the monsoon rain serving this great country and serving the USCG how about you join and go through the boot camp and tell me how it goes I could hook you up with a good recruiter in your area just dm me what the closest major city is and I could find you an office so you can get your paperwork done and then I will take leave and personally great you on your way into cape may
Seriously, to everyone bickering in the comments about how boot camp is easy or hard for whatever branch. Why do you actually care?! All of the branches are different which means they all have different training. Just because one is easier It does not make that branch weaker, lazier, less important. Every branch is brave every branch is strong and EVERY BRANCH IS IMPORTANT! Who cares if it's easier or harder?! They all serve our country, they're all brave, they're all strong. Coast Guard, Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines... They are all important! If you served any of the military branches. I just want to say. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! 💕
Ok why are people comparing the Marines to the Coast Guard? They have two completely different missions. The Coast Guard is designed to stop piracy near American shores, intercept illicit cargo on ships, rescue lives, etc. The Marines are designed to be landing troops attached to the Navy. They're designed to invade from the sea, kill the enemy, and deliver humanitarian aide in a timely matter.
Hey man. What would you recommend Navy or Coast Guard? I would like to become an LEO so I could be a Navy MP or be apart of drug interdiction at the Coast Guard
Chris Coast Guard does more LE stuff than the Navy. In the Navy you'll end up being in shore patrol or guarding the brig on some ship. I loved the Navy, but if you're gonna be in the LE, Coast Guard is the best. Hint of advice, get used to people yelling at you to get you stressed in case of war type situations, and make sure you are as physically fit as possible before going into bootcamp. That's the best advice I can give you.
Chris Oh yeah, get used to being fast and not dragging you feet. Attention to detail will be the key and learn how to use hand guns and long guns if you can before you go to boot camp. Especially stripping the guns down and cleaning them and putting them back together as fast as possible.
The beauty of the USCG is that we get all prior service Marines, Air Force, Navy and Army and we come together as one. You really won't see much of that anywhere else. We welcome all those that want to represent the mission of honor, RESPECT and devotion to duty. Sempre Peratus.
Massive respect for the men and women of the Coast Guard! I spent 16 years as a U.S. Marine Corps infantryman (medically retired Gunnery Sergeant) and what I see in this video is discipline and professionalism. Semper Fidelis and Semper Paratus!
My uncle Ed was a career man in the Coast Guard. He was stationed in Alaska and was doing the chopper rescues. i am so proud of him. The Coasties are sometimes are not thought to be as tough the other branches. But they are. Go Coasties!!
Marines are taught to blindly follow orders and take lives. Coasties are taught to go out think plan and save lives. I have alot of respect for Marines ...but I also have respect for my coastie brothers.
Their purpose in the end, is to serve our country and protect America, all branches do it in their own way, but they all are meant to protect and serve America in the end.
"Established in 1790, the Coast Guard served as the nation's only armed force on the sea until Congress launched the Navy Department eight years later." - from the USCG website Coasties are awesome. They've been protecting US shores for centuries, and have infinite bravery. Anyone who served in any branch of the US military has every right to be proud of themselves. Criticizing others is completely unnecessary and in my eyes only shows their own self doubt... thereby making themselves and their entire branch look bad. If you want some amazing stories from an actual USCG rescue swimmer, read Brotherhood of the Fin by Gerald Hoover. It's totally worth it.
I see a lot of disrespect and hate in these posts. Seems like to me, when you strap boots on for your country, regardless of branch of service, it should be respected. Whenever there is a maritime emergency, who gets called to the scene? Coast Guard! USCG boot camp is training for their mission. Not the mission of other services. If that were the case, then we'd only have one service.
+Darrell Vance NO HATE, NO DISRESPECT, JUST FACT. MARINES ARE THE WORLDS FINEST FIGHTING FORCE THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN. IF PEOPLE GET OFFENDED BY MARINES SAYING IT, THAT'S REALLY TOO BAD.
+primaryification Judging by your comment I can tell you either are or wish you could be a Marine by the way you could not read and/or understand my comment. It's okay, I'll dumb it down for you. Boot camp is mission oriented, meaning you train for what you do. I'm not denying the Marines are good at doing what they do. Hell, you can train a dog to do what they do so I guess being human, they should be good at it. I'm simply stating that the USCG boot camp is geared towards a life saving service. Let's be honest. Quick question for you though. Being such a hard Marine, how did you come across a USCG video?
I was a Marine who went over to the Coast Guard to become a Rescue Swimmer and I can say without hesitation that the Coast Guard training I went through was brutal, Rescue Swimmer "A" School makes the Marine Corps Boot Camp seem like a walk in the park. I do not care how tough my fellow Devil Dogs feel they are, until you have experienced the Hell of Rescue Swimmer Training you can not understand or appreciate just how damn hard it is, we had 7 trainees myself included in our class and we graduated 3 of us after 24 weeks of pure hell the attrition rate is 85-90%, and I was the only prior service person to make it, we had a few other former Marines and an former Army guy and they were unable to go the distance.
Sabreena Lachlainn my son did buds training and said to pass the Coastgaurd do everything the seals do except under water demolition. His friend passed like nothing.
Find yourself alone in the ocean and I'm sure you will be ecstatic to see the Coast Guard. They have their function and they do it very well. Semore Fi :)
Bill Seidel what would commercial fisherman do with out you guys. Only law to enforce all of USA federal waters and rescue us when regulations make us fish dangerous weather. And the boys that board you offshore are trained different. Automatic weapon full suite and no bullshit
no armed forces branch is harder nor better. All have their own reason, uses and purposes, so i respect every branch. Coastguard may not be frontlines and active infantry but they play a very important rol, in our Country, protecting our coasts and actually helping out in their own territory. I had a friend who chose coadt guard, the rest of them chose either marines or army and acted stronger, tougher and more important than him and he was crushed by that, but stuck it through, and is alive and disciplined and less screwed up with ptsd than the others, some of them were killed in battle.
"No armed forces branch is harder or better" alright, I agree with the better part, they all have their specific things they are best at, and it makes them the best at what they do, but harder? Coast Guard bootcamp vs Navy Seal bootcamp? or even Marine Corps bootcamp? I know its a huge gap in comparison but I think that yes, some branches are very much harder than others.
I'm a Marine and served a little over 4 years so far. I'm going to the Coast Guard within the next year. I'm stoked. I'm ready to take on a new mission.
Had a few ex Marines in bootcamp, ex Navy and Airforce members.. we ALL hustled and no one was different than the next, we are all the same when the CC is yelling in our faces! Thank you for your service!
Eric Dublinski I wouldn't worry. I went to MCRD and that was easy in my opinion. the first week or two will be the hardest then you just skate from there. boot camp is the easiest thing you'll do in the military especially the Marine Corps. I don't like to rag on other beaches because we are all family, but y'all are gonna have a skate time, don't even worry
I went thru boot camp in 1986, it was pretty tough mentally and a times physically. Served 5 more years. I would do it again in a minute. Love my country and all other branches of service.
You do realize you have to take a very difficult physical test and then get interviewed before you actually get accepted into training, you can't just join.
Good luck to my Son, he starts on March 8th. I am very proud of him for the decision he has made and I have all the faith in the world that he will excel. I was in the Navy and I remember the intensity of basic, it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Semper Paratus Alex.
I must say congrats to your son, I graduated last fall with papa 191 September 11,2015. Your son joined an amazing branch, best job ever to save a life.
Come ready is the operative words! Our son Daniel graduated from college with his kinesiology degree and maintained his strength and desire to strong of mind and physical ability. He did well in basic and was promoted to Yoman his second week. I could go on and on but the point is to "Come ready". Great opportunity. It's not half bad when you do graduate and get your assignment.
Class November 1985. Back in the day blanket parties were part of the norm, no worries of becoming soft. Mentally the toughest with the Marine Corps right behind us, physically second toughest right behind the Marines. In great company with the Marines if I may say. How times have changed. Semper Paratus!
I'm reading a lot of comments of one service being better, tougher, more bad ass than the others. Truth be known if you have worn the uniform of any branch of the United States Armed Forces, you are part of just 7% of the citizens of our great nation. Bad ass? Hell, you stepped up, volunteered to give your life for this country if need be. Be proud, but be humble. Many people have given everything. Never forget. Remember it's called joining the Service, because we serve others. I retired after 29 yrs in the Coast Guard. I miss it everyday. Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty. Semper Paratus! Gary Armstrong HSC, USCG Ret. 1983-2012
Great video. It brought back many memories. I was in the Coast Guard in 1966 for 6 years. I left as an first class electricians mate. My boot camp was 13 weeks and there was still a lot of yelling, calisthenics, swimming, marching etc. Loved those 2 hour PT. Not. A lot of good memories, it is a good thing pain cannot be recalled. The best branch of the service!!!
Marine's are just proud to be Marines. We don't mean to put other service branches down. We are taught to be proud from day one. I've met Marines from 20 to 80 years of age. They all have respect for the Corps and always are proud to be Marines. Semper Fi....
I'm looking at the comments, seeing a lot of hate. I want to clarify that each branch isn't designed to be tougher/weaker than the other. Each branch is made specifically for a purpose that was intended, not to put themselves above the others. Remember, we all serve in the military and for different reasons. I trained mostly with flippers because my job was to be a diver, not a rescuer. Just saying
Good times. I went through in 1995. Some things have changed. I ended up doing 21 years of service. I would do it again in a heartbeat. We had some tough CCs back then and after 9/11 we recalled a YNC from the 1970s and I can tell you that 1970s boot camp YNC was the toughest lady I have ever seen and the stories she had were amazing. Even she said today’s Coast Guard was soft. I agree and disagree. Anyway glad to see this next generation of folks coming through. Semper Paratus!
I respect all branches of the military regardless if your army, coast guard , marines , or Air Force!!! We all play a part in defending our country!! We are all apart of one team please remember that !!!!! Butt
I absolutely agree with you as a former SGT from the 10th Mountain Division. As for those who talk trash about the men and women in the Any military uniform that has not gone through or served this country. You shouldn’t be saying anything at all. Just remember this. As you watch these videos this is what they want you to see. If you want to know more then see your local recruiter and join the military. Then you will see what it is about. I love all my brothers and sisters in uniform.
I've read about people saying that boot camp was the worst, and you couldnt pay them to go back, but I have also seen people saying that it was amazing in many ways. Both say it was the hardest thing they've ever done. I think that boot camp is really how you make it. The people yelling at you are trying to prepare you to save lives. Its not a cake walk. At the end of the day, they're trying to help you.
I am prior service. Mech Infantry. These recruits are by far the smartest based on their choice of service. They wont get sand between their toes from Islamic lands AND they will be stationed where people appreciate their presence. The American people! So all you other branches who are demeaning this experience.................get wise to how the world works. God Bless ALL!
@@talflowtk Tbh these people showing hate on these other branches are annoying. They must of never joined any branch Edit- Also most of the comments have horrible spelling and grammar from these guys
I graduated in whiskey company 137 1991. My CC was YN1 Shipley and MK2 Macarthur. It changed my life for the better. I am proud to have served with the finest people in the finest service in the USA. Semper Paratus!
U.S. Navy veteran here 1968-1972, served in Vietnam. The Coast Guard is no joke and anybody who thinks that is a fool. Their boot camp is the second hardest after the U.S. Marines. Their jobs are usually more physically demanding than the U.S. Navy unless you include UDT and Seals. Members of one branch of the U.S.military do not hate members of another branch as somebody mentioned below. Sometimes there is a friendly rivalry, but that's all it is, we all respect each other and the different jobs we have to do. If I was a young person today I would probably join the Coast Guard.
I always heard navy was just a hair under army? Anyways do the people who are going on their knees in boot or slowing down a shit ton (it even showed a bunch in the video) get yelled at or extra PT? Or do they just kind of let it go if it looks like your trying your best.
Yep it’s the hardest to complete and the best to serve. From a graduate of Golf company of February 1973. Retired February 1996. And I’d do it all again in a heartbeat
Trying to be as serious as possible. I'm 12. I will be 13 in 5 months and I'm already researching what it takes to become part of the Coast Guard. I have been working on it for 3 hours and I would say I have a lot of very helpful stuff typed up. It's what I have always wanted to do since I was 5. My dad also extremely wants me to do this and I am very proud to say that I will be doing it no matter what. I've been looking up videos of how boot camp is and with how much physical things they have to do I've already started because one, it will help me become stronger so I can be prepared as I can for it. I know it's possible I won't make it but I will try my best to become a part of it. Anyways, the second reason is because it will help me now with my dads work since I help out over the weekends and my dad and I need the strength so it can keep the place going so he can have money and have a home and food. Again, I'm proud to say I will be trying my very best to become part of the Coast Guard.
@Greedo 1 I'm a girl. 2 I'm still researching and doing stuff to help me have a higher chance of joining. I think it's pretty sad that you have nothing better to do then try to crush kids dreams. Grow up dude.
@Greedo I'm researching bout it to learn more about what it's like and the different jobs they offer. And it's not that easy. It's second most difficult to join next to the marines.
My nephew went to USCG Boot Camp in Cape May. He thought being the Coast Guard the boot camp should be pretty easy. He said it was the greatest wake up call in his life, and couldn’t see a Marine or Army boot camp being any harder.
I was in basic training in 1971. I remember some of this. The first few days was forming company. There was little yelling that first week. They did not yell for us to get off the bus. We had our haircuts and medical exams, issued our uniforms and finally were taken to our permanent quarters. Our CC was a CPO from NC. After basic I was sent to NC and stationed on an inland tender. The XO asked who my DI was. When I told him he said 'he's my cousin". A couple of years later another cousin was transferred to the ship. He was a First Class P.O.
I would love to join the coast guard when I come of age. I was initially going to because of the paid college but now I see it and I would love to be toughened and protect my country
Boot camp is hell 43 people in my company didn't make it and also as a non-rate you will be doing dishes and a lot a cleaning. Be ready to begin at the very bottom. It starts to get better when you make third class. Good luck! Semper Paratus
I graduated last week. When they say COME READY, COME READY. If you are out of shape you will screw yourself over. Luckily I trained. Learn your required knowledge. It is vital. Know that though each day is slow, the weeks go by quickly.
I came out in the 1970s when any military service was a no-go. So I went thru college in business school. If I could do it again, I think I would have gone into the USCG. I am a sailor, and have never been rescued by the USCG (thank God), but have been checked on by them many times. Thank you USCG!
when I was in the Navy I spent a three year tour at fleet training group we went on all the ships in our designated area doing damage control training and inspections , we also trained the coast guard ships and I always enjoyed doing stuff with the coast guard they were always ready to train and always had a good attitude
Every branch of service has a BMT program. The Coast Guard is part of the service branch during wartime when they serve under the direction of the US Navy. The Coast Guard video above is a toned down recruiting message designed to attract a different kind of service person. Not everyone can become a Marine, not every one wants to be a Marine. Personally speaking when I graduated from high school in '77 I did not have many career options. I was an abysmal student and knew college was not an option. The Vietnam War had only ended during the early part of the decade and it was a safe bet that another war wasn't looming. I enlisted in the army and after two years of being just another 11B doing calisthenics everyday I wanted more. So I cross-transferred to the air force and spent 35 years having the time of my life. Today's BMT program is soft among all branches. BMT today is spent more on feelings, and rights, cuddling, and embracing the notion that everyone is equal. And perhaps for many people that Utopian idea makes for a well-rounded soldier. However, make no mistake the enemy we face today does not play by the rules of engagement, there are no rules, nothing is out-of-bounds. So when one decides to enlist in any branch of the service today, be prepared to fight, and accept dying. This is not a movie or a video game.
Having served in the guard I have great respect for these young men and woman. The Coast Guard is the only branch of the U.S Services that main mission is to SAVE LIVES . God bless you all Semper Peratis.
Giovan Simileer This is the first time I've seen a video about coast guard basic training and I thought it was always the least strict but I'm actually surprised after watching this It seems more disciplined than the army, navy, and Air Force.
trucksacrosstexas that's because the recruiter is never in his damned office lol. this would've been me if he were there. settled for the Army like everyone else.
How does what you do after graduating boot camp have any bearing on how difficult basic training is? Coast Guard boot camp is, from what prior servicemen have told me during basic training, the third most difficult behind marines and navy seals. Just watch a few videos of the other services' training and then judge.
I went through in early 1991. The best sunrises I've ever witnesses were from the training grounds at Cape May...who would have thought...in New Jersey?
Co. Bravo 109. USCG TRACEN Alameda CA. 1976. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. 'You have to go out. Nothing says you have to come back." Semper Paratus!
Though I never served in the military, this is a really good video and it goes with what I read about the Coast Guard. It's an armed service and more. Boot Camp is tough....it has to be. It's very serious business and just as important. Another thing I can recall reading is that boot camp teaches you how to do it and the makes sure you are able. This video also confirms another perception I had about the Coast Guard. It's best that you get ready as best you can.
You have to be someone special, train hard and be selected to be a Coast Guardsmen. You are saving lives and protecting America shortways. The only easy day was yesterday!
I remember going back to the squad bay and our mattresses were thrown all over the place. Also, there was shaving cream over every bulkhead. We had a short amount of time to fix it (which wasn't possible). A few minutes later my whole company had to drag our mattresses out to the parade field and then back again multiple times. Good times.
gonzisonsbc i was in basic training company November 159 this was back in 2001 and i noticed there's alot of different changes made to the program and im sure it was 11 weeks when i was there. semper paratus
Foxtrot Alpha, I went through Tracen Cape May in June 1974. Thanks for the memories. I was in Sierra Company under CC Chief Jesse Smith. He was tough, but fair. The quadrangle still looks the same. Graduation was always special and the liberty in Wildwood was awesome. I left and went to the Cutter Hamilton (WHEC-715) out of Boston. It was the best time of my life. Enjoy the ride. It will go by real quick. Semper Paratus!
Im 16 years old but im very confused on what to join and what will give me better options also cause my Uncle was a Marine and my Grandfather was in the Army and my Cousin was Airforce and they keep throwing papers in my face for each branch of the military i would love to join the military but i need help so please tell me.
Nobody thinks about the coast guard until you’re in a life or death situation surrounded by water. I was on a boat in Lake Erie that caught fire several years ago. It happened so fast we had no time to do much but jump over. No life jackets no rings nothing. Then had to swim quickly because of leaking gas oil etc. spreading fire on the water. Luckily there was some Coast Guard people on patrol and saved our asses. Great bunch of guys gave us food water called family for us since we had no communications. It may have been their job but I’m forever thankful they saved us.
I really want to join. I'm in senior year of Highschool, and am really considering it, is it hard to get into? I really want to do it and no other branch attracts me :/
+Connor Metzler my brothers a Coastie and yes with working out and mental test it can be but man it ain't nothing you can't handle so long as you keep FUCKIN STRONG MY FRIEND.
This looks more intense than my Army basic training. Of course, I didn't go through infantry basic training, I went through the softer MOS basic training in 2006. Much respect for those that complete Coast Guard boot camp.
The Coast Guard actually has the lowest Basic Training/Boot Camp pass rate 2/10 in 2015 For you idiots saying "Its the USMC" im talking st atistics, the USMC and the Army were actually tied! Apparently the swimming portion got alot of folks chewed up
Back in the day, new recruits weren't issued much of anything the first week of boot camp except for some old worn out fatigues. The budget didn't afford the waste of uniforms and accessories for recruits that were washed out in the first week.
We had 2 Prior Army and 1 Prior Marine quit when I went through Coast Guard Boot in 2001.....This shit is no joke!....one of the ARMY Dudes told me he was gonna fake a knee injury to get out he said "F" this shit. He said he wasn't the physical part of it it was the way the played with you mentally he couldn't take anymore. Which for being 3 weeks in freaked a bunch of us out cuz if the ARMY dude cant make it how the hell am I gonna make it.....But I did! BEST 4 YRS OF MY LIFE!.......and if anyone complains that the Coast Guard dont do shit I cal BS cuz I was in a firefight like bullets flying everywhere in open waters 2 weeks out of boot camp and got shot at at least once a month for the next 4 yrs in the Caribbean! Arrr the Pirate Life for ME!
Company XRAY 99 here Feb 1974. I went on to OCS and aviation training. I flew helicopters and C-130's. I retired a LCDR. You will never work harder nor be more r proud of yourself. Capt. A. B. Howe, Commander USCG TRACEN 1974, said it best. "If we have to rescue you while we're trying to rescue someone else, you're no good to us."
Coast Guard basic training seems more fear-induced than what I see in the Navy boot camp videos. Most "navy receiving boot camp" videos have the instructors firmly instructing the recruits but not yelling like this.
People who want to bust on the USCG haven’t looked into what a Guardsman does for a living. About military service, to quote Charlie Daniels- “We may have done a little fighting amongst ourselves, but you outside people best leave us alone”. Military veterans always bust each other’s chops, it’s what we do, but non vets can’t comprehend the respect we have for each other. Respect from a USN Cold War vet.
The Coast Guard is the smallest of the armed forces that's primarily responsible for saving lives. However, in time of war, they have proven themselves as fearless warriors.
Marines absolutely do not, though I know the Navy does, and I assumed Army would potentially to some degree. Don't assume every other branch is like yours branch. haha
I was a Coastie back in the late 70's early 80's. These videos don't show the worst physical training nor the hardest head games. My Company, Kilo, started with 110 men and 7 women and only 32 men and 4 women made it to graduation. We didn't know it until graduation day when they announced General Barrow the Marine Corp Commandant and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff would give the address. He stated he had been observing us for 4 weeks and came to the conclusion that CG Boot Camp though 4 weeks shorter than Marine Boot Camp was every bit as tough and physically demanding. Also something the Marines don't do was very effective, "headgames". He saluted us and assured us under his watch the Marines would have the utmost respect for the Coast Guard
Greg White you didn't notice 70 people missing? I was in the navy so I call BS you live with these people our division had 102 people to start and you noticed when they left. Also why would a marine general be there? Like I said I was in the military there would be no one from another branch at your graduation that's not how it works your a liar and a bad one with no clue what they are talking about
So being a Marine Corps drill instructor and having inter-service cross train from time to time. I can honestly say the Air forces has the softest drill instructors I have ever seen. Smart as hell, but as soft as a box of kittens. Next after them is the Coast Guard, than the Army. I would say the Navy falls between Coast Guard and Army.
+justin thompson hey man, the coast guard has their elite units too. you know, dudes wearing balaclava's, Mp5's, helo insertions into south american drug lord territory doing raids, shooting motherfuckers full auto in the face, door kicking room clearing type shit

As far as I'm concerned, if you're in the service, you have my respect.
Amen to that!
Thank you for your service to our country, Corpsman!

Reading these comments is pretty awesome. A majority (75+%) never even served in the military yet they want to judge? Well said. Bravo Zulu. Semper Paratus.
I also full heartedly agree.
This is a branch I would be honored to join, however they do not have any of my areas of study. I would definitely recommend it though.
Well MSRT may fast rope into battle hehe.
How correct you are. We all like to bust each others balls about things. It builds camaraderie, however, a civilian talking shit is a no-go. My friend joined the CG and his first op was a gunfight. Its not what you see on television. I love couch potato operators though, they're the best.
Coast Guard saves 10 people everyday and yearly that's incredible!
Semper Fi.
good marine.
Became 8404 at camp Pendleton, will never forget when I became a man
Funny how a lot of the more respectful comments are coming from fellow Marines on this comment thread. Aren't we painted as the assholes?
you cant really compare aviation survival technicians (rescue swimmers) with the rest of the coast guard as it would be like comparing recon marines to the rest of the Marine Corps fleet. jumping from a helicopter is a specialty mos that could be comparative to special forces, recon, or any other elite operating force and there are very few rescue swimmers in the Coast Guard as they have a very high attrition rate, somewhere upwards of 80%. the rest of the puddle pirates are stationed on small boats much like the navy only for shorter timespans, usually a few weeks or attached to a aircraft squadron as mechanics.
Thanks! USCG "81-'87.
I spent two summers in Cape May and I would watch the Coast Guard train on the beaches EARLY in the morning from the shopped where I worked. VERY impressive in every aspect. These men and women deserve SO much more credit than they are given. They work hard, and do an extremely thankless job.
I feel bad for the Coast Guard they are unappreciated
saiguy1986 you wouldn't have that attitude if you really joined - FS3 Smith
saiguy1986 because I actually went through boot camp and have pride in my country and branch
Chris Le
Some of these Social Justice Warriors and all the rest of the irrelevant groups need to go not the service for as long as it takes to shut them up.
hey lovely how are ?
Ok why are people comparing the Marines to the Coast Guard? They have two completely different missions. The Coast Guard is designed to stop piracy near American shores, intercept illicit cargo on ships, rescue lives, etc. The Marines are designed to be landing troops attached to the Navy. They're designed to invade from the sea, kill the enemy, and deliver humanitarian aide in a timely matter.
Because the Marines and Coast Guard both really hate the Navy!
Marines - "Property of the Navy"
Well, they *are* a department of the Navy :P
+Thenextworldwar the men's department
What about female Marines?
I was in the Navy, but what I respect about the Coast Guard is that their videos really show the yelling and craziness of boot camp.
Jazz Man Thanks man. Fortunately I still have a couple years before I can join, so I'll hopefully be prepared by then.
Chris Oh yeah, get used to being fast and not dragging you feet. Attention to detail will be the key and learn how to use hand guns and long guns if you can before you go to boot camp. Especially stripping the guns down and cleaning them and putting them back together as fast as possible.
Chris good luck.
The beauty of the USCG is that we get all prior service Marines, Air Force, Navy and Army and we come together as one. You really won't see much of that anywhere else. We welcome all those that want to represent the mission of honor, RESPECT and devotion to duty.
Sempre Peratus.
I just passed my asvab, I’ll be swearing in, in Hawaii, and I’ll be out there in a few weeks. Wish me luck! - local boy from GUAM! Let’s gooooo!
2 years in, how are you liking it? What are some things you like and dislike?
How it been
Massive respect for the men and women of the Coast Guard!
I have alot of respect for Marines ...but I also have respect for my coastie brothers.
dave runner Bro every soldier, sailor, and marine are supposed to follow orders. Don’t be dumb
Their purpose in the end, is to serve our country and protect America, all branches do it in their own way, but they all are meant to protect and serve America in the end.
"Established in 1790, the Coast Guard served as the nation's only armed force on the sea until Congress launched the Navy Department eight years later." - from the USCG website
Coasties are awesome.
Sabreena Lachlainn made any hurricane rescues yet?
Sabreena Lachlainn my son did buds training and said to pass the Coastgaurd do everything the seals do except under water demolition. His friend passed like nothing.
Find yourself alone in the ocean and I'm sure you will be ecstatic to see the Coast Guard. They have their function and they do it very well. Semore Fi :)

I agree. The 17 people I've helped save during my time in back in '85-86 are probably still glad we picked' em up.
Bill Seidel what would commercial fisherman do with out you guys. Only law to enforce all of USA federal waters and rescue us when regulations make us fish dangerous weather. And the boys that board you offshore are trained different. Automatic weapon full suite and no bullshit
Im ex Navy and i have done operations with Coast Guard, i have nothing but respect for them.
no armed forces branch is harder nor better.
Sad for everyone on this were all brothers is what most fail to realize
"No armed forces branch is harder or better"
alright, I agree with the better part, they all have their specific things they are best at, and it makes them the best at what they do, but harder? Coast Guard bootcamp vs Navy Seal bootcamp? or even Marine Corps bootcamp? I know its a huge gap in comparison but I think that yes, some branches are very much harder than others.
lol. I wasn't aware that Navy Seals were a branch. I suppose airborne, air assault, sappers and rangers are all branches as well? lol.
i have to agree w weezer on this..
Dude I didnt say the Seals were a branch. I just said the bootcamps of the two differ greatly, I dont know much about the navy in general.
I'm a Marine and served a little over 4 years so far. I'm going to the Coast Guard within the next year. I'm stoked. I'm ready to take on a new mission.
Eberle41 You tried the best now go do the rest. Semper fi marine. 86-91
Hey curious to now your experience is going. I'm about to enlist to the coast guard. I did 4 years in the Corps
Had a few ex Marines in bootcamp, ex Navy and Airforce members.. we ALL hustled and no one was different than the next, we are all the same when the CC is yelling in our faces! Thank you for your service!
Yay that's awesome!

Eric Dublinski good luck man

I enjoyed my service in the USCG. I think that was the best time of my life. And it made me the good man I am today
I went thru boot camp in 1986, it was pretty tough mentally and a times physically. Served 5 more years. I would do it again in a minute. Love my country and all other branches of service.
As a former US Marine, I have our U. S. Coast Guard in High consideration and respect. SEMPER FI!!
A special thanks to the Coast Guard for helping us out here in Houston rescuing people, THANK YOU!!

Well said. Coast Guard is a job. A Marine is a Marine for life.
@@raffafan That is wrong on so many levels.

Just saying
"I want to clarify that each branch isn't designed to be tougher/weaker than the other ", WRONG!!!!
@ProjecthuntanFish If each branch were better than the other then what's the point of keeping one?
Butt
The Navy likes to call us noisy CG recruits puddle pirates. That name always makes me chuckle.
Haha damn man I always forget about the coast guard. Had no idea their basic was like this. Good work.
why would you forget? hahaha
They're so underrated. Thank you to ALL veterans/those who are still serving. 🦅🇺🇸🦅
I am prior service. Mech Infantry.
These recruits are by far the smartest based on their choice of service. They wont get sand between their toes from Islamic lands AND they will be stationed where people appreciate their presence. The American people!

I come from a long line of people serving in coast gaurd,I can't wait to do it myself
Coast Guard boot camp is a lot more brutal than Navy holy shit.
Did you even go through boot camp?
+Sam Dolinski I did, and this is fucking embarrassing. The navy has pussified boot camp to a whole new level.
+StudiosNewEra this is the coast guard.
I know what it is. It is sad that the CG is tougher on their recruits than the Navy is.
Good luck!

My nephew went to USCG Boot Camp in Cape May. He thought being the Coast Guard the boot camp should be pretty easy. He said it was the greatest wake up call in his life, and couldn’t see a Marine or Army boot camp being any harder.
"Because When You're Here, You're Family"
I was in basic training in 1971. I remember some of this. The first few days was forming company. There was little yelling that first week. They did not yell for us to get off the bus. We had our haircuts and medical exams, issued our uniforms and finally were taken to our permanent quarters. Our CC was a CPO from NC. After basic I was sent to NC and stationed on an inland tender. The XO asked who my DI was. When I told him he said 'he's my cousin". A couple of years later another cousin was transferred to the ship. He was a First Class P.O.

+Ren MacCallum I saw no instance of feelings or cuddling here.
Having served in the guard I have great respect for these young men and woman. The Coast Guard is the only branch of the U.S Services that main mission is to SAVE LIVES . God bless you all Semper Peratis.
this looks as harder than air force. about the same difficulty as navy
Giovan Simileer This is the first time I've seen a video about coast guard basic training and I thought it was always the least strict but I'm actually surprised after watching this It seems more disciplined than the army, navy, and Air Force.
navy boot was easy. this looks alot harder to be honest
Giovan Simileer Been rated the 2nd most difficult branch to get into. Just under the USMC.
trucksacrosstexas that's because the recruiter is never in his damned office lol. this would've been me if he were there. settled for the Army like everyone else.
Coast gaurd boot camp: The only school where they encourage you to run in the hallways.
Co. Bravo 109. USCG TRACEN Alameda CA. 1976. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. 'You have to go out. Nothing says you have to come back." Semper Paratus!
Heading into the Army hopefully, and I respect these guys
Though I never served in the military, this is a really good video and it goes with what I read about the Coast Guard. It's an armed service and more. Boot Camp is tough....it has to be. It's very serious business and just as important. Another thing I can recall reading is that boot camp teaches you how to do it and the makes sure you are able. This video also confirms another perception I had about the Coast Guard. It's best that you get ready as best you can.
Good shit. Nothin but respect for Coasties.
Good times.
They called that a Hurricane.
Thats what happens when you dont clean the squad bay and the section commander walks through lol
Brian Murphy I'm pretty sure it would have happened no matter what.
gonzisonsbc i was in basic training company November 159 this was back in 2001 and i noticed there's alot of different changes made to the program and im sure it was 11 weeks when i was there. semper paratus
We were kind of close. I was Zulu 162 in 2002. Have a good one.
Im 16 years old but im very confused on what to join and what will give me better options also cause my Uncle was a Marine and my Grandfather was in the Army and my Cousin was Airforce and they keep throwing papers in my face for each branch of the military i would love to join the military but i need help so please tell me.
are you still looking to join?
Nobody thinks about the coast guard until you’re in a life or death situation surrounded by water. I was on a boat in Lake Erie that caught fire several years ago. It happened so fast we had no time to do much but jump over. No life jackets no rings nothing. Then had to swim quickly because of leaking gas oil etc. spreading fire on the water. Luckily there was some Coast Guard people on patrol and saved our asses. Great bunch of guys gave us food water called family for us since we had no communications. It may have been their job but I’m forever thankful they saved us.
Damn I remember every minute if boot camp. Miss the Guard!
I really want to join. I'm in senior year of Highschool, and am really considering it, is it hard to get into? I really want to do it and no other branch attracts me :/
+Connor Metzler yea bro do it it's hard but keep mentally as well physically strong with spirits high my friend.
+LOWC MF it's hard to get into?
+Connor Metzler my brothers a Coastie and yes with working out and mental test it can be but man it ain't nothing you can't handle so long as you keep FUCKIN STRONG MY FRIEND.
+LOWC MF I'm kind of scared for it honestly.. I still need to contact a recruiter to see if I'm eligible
This looks more intense than my Army basic training. Of course, I didn't go through infantry basic training, I went through the softer MOS basic training in 2006. Much respect for those that complete Coast Guard boot camp.
The Coast Guard actually has the lowest Basic Training/Boot Camp pass rate 2/10 in 2015
For you idiots saying "Its the USMC" im talking st
atistics, the USMC and the Army were actually tied!
Apparently the swimming portion got alot of folks chewed up
Dayum, I wonder why that is. Respect to you coasties!
Back in the day, new recruits weren't issued much of anything the first week of boot camp except for some old worn out fatigues. The budget didn't afford the waste of uniforms and accessories for recruits that were washed out in the first week.
2 0ut of 10...c'mon it looks like Boy Scouts. I could not fail that unless I had a broken leg. Or that you have women lower the pass rate.
2 out 10 where did you get this stat from?
So many things in life I can't recall in real detail. Cape May however, I recall pretty much every little bit!
I was thinking the same thing looks more intense than navy btc
Haha they make the video for the navy seem easier so people will join that branch over the others
It's like the Navy pretending to be Marines.
I graduated in October 2015 with whiskey company and this was the hardest two months of my life.
The Navy Seals have to tread water with only there legs and pass weights over their heads for 45 minutes. Imagine that damn
ghost N/A their* legs. You fucking stupid ass bitch.
Delonte Nolan whoa calm down there bud
@@talflowtk Agreed, this is the internet not the fucking military!
Coast guard gets a bad rep. There's so much shit they do that most don't know about. Especially with Somali pirates and shit.
The Coast Guard is the smallest of the armed forces that's primarily responsible for saving lives. However, in time of war, they have proven themselves as fearless warriors.
"The flag is carried by our ships in times of war and peace."
They actually have the gals & the guys training together? How weird is that? Guess I'm too Old School.
yeah. I think every branch has integrated training now. We did when I was in the Navy.
Air Force, Marines and Army don't.
Thenextworldwar The Army does. I have a friend who went to basic training this past summer. She said they're only separated at the barracks.
That's what I was referring to.
+justin thompson Shut the fuck up. Army Infantry is not under the Navy. You sound like a dumbs bro.
DatBoiCoco
I dont think I ever said they did.
You are a disgrace
Im pretty sure he is talking about boot camp not mos like grunts and special forces... Just saying
