I noted best results with CCI Mini Mag Hollow Point Round Nose. Cleaning and lubricating the slide and internals really well also eliminates alot of problems
Per Ruger's instruction manual for LCP II .22 LR, on p.13: "...sub-sonic or match-grade ammunition may not have sufficient energy to cycle the slide." Good video. Thanks.
Aguila Sniper SubSonic (SSS) is made specifically for AR conversion kits on AR's that have 1:7 twist. It will work with 1:8/9 twist as well, just a little less accurate.
Excellent point of view video. I felt like I was actually shooting the LCP and got a firsthand look at the performance of several types of ammo. THIS is how you make a shooting video!
I must be old... I remember .22 shorts, .22 longs, and .22 long rifle ammo. it seems possible if they used a .22 long casing and a little warmer charge, they might make some nice rounds for the pocket pistols to launch 50-55 grain bullets that would cycle reliably. the first mag looked like .22 short casings, were just not enough power.
Correct. the Aguila Super Sniper rounds are .22 short cases with an extra long 60gr projectile. They're only intended for manually cycled rifles, so the fact this can run them at all is impressive. Now, I think you'd have a hard time fitting a 50-55gr projectile in a standard long case, unless you just made it a very, very flat nose.
if you look at the firing pin impression on 'light strike' rounds, i think it's that the firing pin doesn't have much of a signature... it is smaller than many rimfire firing pins i've observed... but i like this little rimfire mouse gun.. it's definitely a step up from an HP22A (which is a simply awesome plinker)
I also had several “light strikes”; particularly with Stingers which have the harder, nickel plated casing. Maybe the reason? As brass case ammo had no issues.
I've had sporadic results with many types of ammo in mine. However....I have shot 220 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt bulk (500) with ZERO failures. No other ammo has come close. Next time I shoot, I'm going to keep counting to see how many I get before a failure. Oddly, I tried the same Thunderbolt ammo but in boxes of 50, and got 2-3 failures (light strikes) per mag. Guess that shows bad quality control. Luckily I still have a full box of 500 plus the reamaining 280 from the first box.
We experimented with all kinds of brands, and have settled on thunderbolts and blazers for the range, 40gr round nosed mini-mags if ever 'needed'...ask 10 different owners of this gun, get 10 different answers about ammo...the gun IS finicky...runs good once the ammo is sorted out, just keep the gun clean...
I just bought a brand new Ruger 10/22 and I have 500 rounds of the CCI quiet ammunition it literally sounds like a pellet gun going off but does not cycle pretty cool stuff though regardless, just bought my second LCP 2 today chambered in .380 and I had a bunch of first gens in the past, they always ran great, the big pro to a small gun like this if you train a ton and get very proficient no matter where you go or how you dress you will have a firearm on you 24/7 and that is the beauty of these smaller guns. I have a 50 round mag for my 10/22 and let me tell you I can shoot that gun so fast with almost no recoil and hit the target every time it would be a very bad day if I ever need to use that on someone. Great video very informative
From what he's said and we can see, trying to shoot low velicity ammo through a blow back semi auto won't work. Not enuf power to cycle the next round into battery. Those low vel cartridges are fun to shoot in the .22 revolvers like the Ruger Wrangler. One cartridge he was using (Aquila Colibri) doesn't even have powder in it. It just uses the power produced from the primer firing gasses. It warns not to even put into a bolt action rifle as the bullet may not make it out the barrel. I shoot those in my garage "range" into a cardboard box stuffed with a couple old pairs of blue jeans and a sweat shirt or two. The bullet generally won't penetrate over 6 to 8 inches. I mostly shoot a pellet gun at that box target. Good winter sport but just a 23 foot limit to this range cuz of the length of my garage. ; D
Trying to figure out which ammo will be best for carrying for self defense…. Sucks the heaviest grain for 22lr barely even cycles… would like a quiet round but those apparently don’t work in pistols either…
Hmm. That cci quiet semi auto cycles in my 7:5” AR I run it with my double tap trigger and it’s a blast! Now! That Black box suppressor is my all time fav. I prob have 20k rounds or it in the safe. Super accurate out of everything up to my RPR. Good vid!
just bought two ('cause i wanted an extra magazine - LOL!)... they are great shooters, but vary between individuals...one shot accurately out of the box, and the other needs a warm-up of a mag to get accurate... dunno why...
I agree, there should have been 2 mags included with the gun, and forfeit the holster, glad to hear you have good accurate pistols, quite encouraging, Cheers!
This review reinforces what I’ve been saying about .22 LR semi auto pistols for 3 decades... do not carry one for self defense. If your physical limitation is a low recoil firearm, there are several .22 LR revolvers that are well suited for this purpose. A Ruger 5410 or S&W 43C are great choices. You’ll sacrifice 3 rounds of capacity for the comfort of knowing there are no “failure to feed” issues with revolvers.
This review isn’t a real review of the reliability of 22 auto’s! The only ammo he shot that was actually made for a auto was the CCI Stingers and as you can see they worked fine. A General rule is if it has trouble feeding CCI Mini Mag, Stingers, or Velocitors, then get rid of it. I have no idea why he is reviewing this pistol with ammo made for 22lr bolt action rifles, but if I were Ruger I would call him out on it.
Just bought this gun and not one jam yet using cci velocitore ammo and a good break in and oiling.....looked at the Ruger LCR but they were almost double the price I paid for a little plinker gun Paid $278 plus $20 ffl fee...SW double action only revolver was $580...Ruger LCR was around $500.
It's easy to disable it on most guns - just keep the part if you need to sell the gun or send it to Ruger. It saves a negligent discharge from the one in the trainer.
Cool. I might have to pick this Pistol up. Don't like the 380 of this. Despite like in the gun itself in design. 22 will be fun. And needed and wanted to know if Stingers are okay for it. That's pretty cool.
heck, single shot cci quiet, not a bad deal. i would say shoot all ammo same target, shooting away at next field offered next to nothing minus bang. helpful vid, thanks.
Thanks for the bed. Really thinking about this. Really don't care for the 380 LCP 2 functioning and I have. Could be the gun or ammo. Who knows. This looks interesting. Looking for reliability. Thanks
I would add the CCI Std to the list. I use the CCI Stingers too. More accurate than the standard and more power. Both have been 100% reliable in over 300 rounds.
Because it's designed to be an up close, point and shoot gun. Not a target pistol. Too many seem to shoot guns like this past the 0 to 15 feet of the real world distances most self defense shootings occur, statistically.
my friend got an extra recoil spring for his lcp ii in .22 (he sent it back to ruger for a problem he was having with his firing pin, and they accidentally or intentionally sent him an extra recoil spring despite it having nothing to do with the firing pin and its components. bubba dun messed up guud) and he cut it shorter and now it cycles, also helps if it was recently cleaned and lubed, goes through 4 mags before it starts to have failure to eject/extract/cycle issues again due it getting dirty again.

This gun is not for subsonic or even standard velocity pistol. The manual stated clearly to only use high velocity ammo.

The only ammo to use in that gun is high velocity. The low v stuff is only for rifles.
My LCP 2 .22 cycles CCI Quiet Semi Auto and Aguila Subsonic 38 grain Hollow point just fine. Great little pistol
Why shoot 22 ammo that you know that it will not work in that gun ?????
I must be old... I remember .22 shorts, .22 longs, and .22 long rifle ammo.

Don't call it a mouse gun. Give it more credit than that. This gun will kill humans.
spring upgrade I just got for mine I hear that is a pretty common problem for the stove pipe
CCI mini mags round nose work flawless. So does Aquila super extra round nose only.
I also had several “light strikes”; particularly with Stingers which have the harder, nickel plated casing. Maybe the reason? As brass case ammo had no issues.
maybe... mini mag is the best anyway
That is awesome, I didn't even know they had this on the market. Have a nice weekend!
You have a good rest of your weekend also. Thanks for watching man!
Galloway precision makes a spring kit for it that will fix your light primer strikes, it will also run those 710fps quiet cci afterward.
Cool! I just ordered the trigger spring kit and the guide rod/recoil spring for mine. I’m excited to try it out.
I've had sporadic results with many types of ammo in mine. However....I have shot 220 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt bulk (500) with ZERO failures. No other ammo has come close. How often do you clean that gun? .22 is dirty ammo. Clean often to keep it running good. Thanks for the video.

Did the stingers work the best in your opinion?
Trying to figure out which ammo will be best for carrying for self defense…. Sucks the heaviest grain for 22lr barely even cycles… would like a quiet round but those apparently don’t work in pistols either…
Federal Suppressor
Keep clean a shoot high velocity ammo. Great pistol. Love mine.
Use CCI standard velocity and you can't go wrong or CCI segmented, devastating Little round each round splits into three when it hits something.
Will Aguila 40G Interceptor rounds work well? Rated at 1470fps
@@Hugs_4_Bugs_ should work fine
Nice little pistol
It is fun. Thanks man!
I love the Colibri rounds or as they are known in Texas "humingbirds" in Spanglish😂👍🇺🇸
Lol. They are like hummingbirds. Thanks for watching man!
i use 'em when in my SP101 22LR when introducing ladies to the range... a light touch always works with the ladies :-)
Hmm. That cci quiet semi auto cycles in my 7:5” AR I run it with my double tap trigger and it’s a blast!

Looks like a very accurate gun, for a small mouse gun! Looks like I need one!

You are a good shot with the LCP ii .22.
Did you get any gunpowder or tiny pieces of led flung on your arms and face after shooting the stingers?
Check boomstick tactical channel. He shot a lot of different 22lr ammo through this gun.
Thank you.
I wish you had not shot at the metal. I was not able to hear the round over the metal. So what was the point of the test?
Can’t shoot Shorts,right?
Is the federal noticeably quieter than cci mini mags?
Are Stingers too hot for the LCP II? And do Stingers cycle well in this pistil since the Stinger casings are slightly longer than a .22LR?

I def wouldn't carry .22
but if I had to
cci minimag or any of their other faster ammo
Can't stand the magazine disconnect that so many of these companies are putting on guns.
Magazine disconnects are probably meant as protection against legal liability. Also, you have a really great username
It is a pain for sure. It is fun otherwise. Thanks for watching!
It's easy to disable it on most guns - just keep the part if you need to sell the gun or send it to Ruger. It saves a negligent discharge from the one in the trainer.
Aguila or whatever is plain sucks. So does thunderbolt. Cci or federal Imo. Great shooting. Its interesting to see how deeply the cci will penetrate
Cool. I might have to pick this Pistol up. Don't like the 380 of this. Despite like in the gun itself in design. 22 will be fun. And needed and wanted to know if Stingers are okay for it. That's pretty cool.
I can’t find ammo for this gun! Any idea where I can find?
heck, single shot cci quiet, not a bad deal. i would say shoot all ammo same target, shooting away at next field offered next to nothing minus bang. helpful vid, thanks.
Wrong bullets for a semi-auto pistol!
Thanks for the bed. Really thinking about this. Really don't care for the 380 LCP 2 functioning and I have. Could be the gun or ammo. Who knows. This looks interesting. Looking for reliability. Thanks
This gun is made for high velocity ammo period.
So which one is quietest that cycles ok? thanks
40 grain or higher is what mine likes.
Hmm I have lcp 2.380 but I may have to pick this thing up :)
It is definitely a cool little pistol! Thanks for watching!
Guns & Accessories you’re welcome. Thank you for sharing.
What do you mean the price will drop? When? Lol
I would love to hear the answer to this
Got this gun and sight is off, what do i do? Is it bullets?
Different ammo can have different points of impact on a target. What type of ammo are you using?
@@PewLand heritige , i think its cabelas brand
I just clicked because I saw a colibri in the lineup, if it cycles, I'm getting the lcp||22. I have the 380, it's a majestic beast
Damn
I need the best ammo for this. The one that is consistent....which would you recommend?
Cci mini mags are my go to
Aguila super maximum or cci stingers
I would add the CCI Std to the list. I use the CCI Stingers too. More accurate than the standard and more power. Both have been 100% reliable in over 300 rounds.
Thinking about picking this up for fun plinking tomorrow. Found it for 249.99 at my local hun store.
Lucky
i need to buy and test the semi auto quiet but the federal supressor is my go to varmint round out my 10/22
That Federal Suppressor is just good in everything I have shot it out of. Thanks for watching man!
that was fun... i just ordered some of the federal suppressor for giggles... (can't have too much rimfire on hand)
It's a pocket gun.
Stingers and other high velocity rds are what 99% of people are going to use. Ain't no model 41 S&W target gun.
Who knows? A chronograph might.
Aguila Sniper is flawless in a revolver. Try that.
Very cool.
Much better than the new KelTec, just wish Ruger would have dropped the pocket holster, and the loader, and added an extra mag or 2!
Which kel tec are you referring too?
could you do the same with ballistic gel
Does anyone notice that CCI Stingers have a tendency to lock the slide back mid mag?
It's longer, hitting the slide lock bar tab right where the nose of bullet rises. File. Polish, that tab.
I live this gun but at 50 my groups are about 1/2 low
Because it's designed to be an up close, point and shoot gun. Not a target pistol. Too many seem to shoot guns like this past the 0 to 15 feet of the real world distances most self defense shootings occur, statistically.
you fired crap rounds at the close plates then went for a target 100 yards away. i would have liked to see the plates swing with the cci
Need a part 3
Solid video review
my friend got an extra recoil spring for his lcp ii in .22 (he sent it back to ruger for a problem he was having with his firing pin, and they accidentally or intentionally sent him an extra recoil spring despite it having nothing to do with the firing pin and its components. bubba dun messed up guud) and he cut it shorter and now it cycles, also helps if it was recently cleaned and lubed, goes through 4 mags before it starts to have failure to eject/extract/cycle issues again due it getting dirty again.
Cci stinger are 1640 fps i love them never fail
You lost me when you wouldn't shoot the stingers at the steel?
You learned no p.o.i shift.
Who cares about sniper sub out of an LCP 22? Aguila has a whole bunch of better ammo for that gun
