I shot Interceptor for the first time from my LCP a few days ago. I was surprised at how little recoil it produced compared to Aguila’s Super Extra HV. I put a mix of the two ammos in the mag and I could not tell the difference without looking at the cartridges.
One thing that you said that many others say accidentally as well is that you referred to the bullets as copper jacketed. They are actually copper plated, not jacketed.
I have to say that I am really impressed with that Interceptor penetration! Thanks for the video on this!

True! Copper "washed" or plated. Not jacketed. Thanks for the correction!

with any 22lr pistol no matter what ammo is used the results will be limited so I would stick with whatever is the most reliable for the pistol. Now its a different ball game with a rifle, hyper velocity bullets coming out of a rifle are smoking hot and do wayyyy more damage and are pretty reliable as well. Im a 22lr guy and for my pistol I shoot cci super segmented hyper velocity only, the bullet breaks into 3 pieces on impact. It might not penetrate deep but if you say shoot somebody in the stomach it will blow a big hole in their guts

These are for my money the two best cartridges in 22LR for defense. Especially in a rifle. Just about interchangeable IMO.

It makes sense the solid Interceptors would penetrate better than the hollow point Velocitors. Interesting to see how much of a difference there is.

For hunting small game I'd take the velocitor just for the energy dump. But with two legged critters penetration first then worry about energy dump. I thought the interceptor was going to be a good round for defense if you had to with a 22. Seems like a far better choice than federals lightweight defense loading. A 40 grain pill isn't very big and going smaller than that just seems like a bad idea.

The winner was the velocitor...10 inches of penetration + expansion will be significantly more devistating...through and through is more frequently non lethal

Would be good to see this test, to include the Interceptors hollow points. I’m curious if, like the velocitors, they would expand and penetrate less?

I know you can feel the difference when following up a mini-mag with either the Velocitor or Interceptor in a Beretta 21A. The barrel is a bit shorter though. Ruger also makes the LCR in 22LR with either 2" or 3" barrels. Eight shot cylinders. Obviously no where near as tiny as the LCP II 22LR though. But no feeding issues!
I still haven't been able to convince myself that a 22LR is a viable carry round. It's certainly a good practice round for your LCPs. I'm fairly sure 22LR is still cheaper than 380 ACP.

  • @mikehatch1967

It is not surprising to see the full metal jacket go farther the hollow point should slow it down but cause more internal damage. You could see that better with 9mm a 22 lr is do small but the hollow point is designed to go slower when it makes contact and to create more damage

Short barrel pistols in 22LR (1''-2 3/4'') cannot achieve the high velocity of a rifle barrel. In an LCPII most (Not all) any 40 gr bullet will achieve 850-950 fps regardless of what velocity is listed on the box. Lighter weight bullets like the Stinger and Punch go a little faster but again can't come close to their box listed velocities. My LCPII 22 was very reliable and accurate but the trigger was so terrible and heavy I just recently sold it. A long gritty 8lb trigger made worse by such a short distance between the palm and trigger make the perceived trigger pull even heavier. I would constantly check to see if the safety was on. I had a Sigurd trigger installed in it and even with the improved geometry of the trigger shoe, the pull was still 8lbs, and though less take up, still very long. My LCPII 380 has a decent 3 3/4lb pull that is both shorted in pull length and has no grit to it. As a test I went to our local Fleet Farm and checked the pull on another LCPII 22 and it was just as bad as mine. I tried to like the LCPII 22 for a couple years but if you don't shoot it why keep it.

    • @radomguy9678
      @radomguy9678 2 роки тому +3

I actually ran the Federal Punch 22LR in my LCP II 22LR Lite Rack and clocked it with my chronograph. It actually exceeded the velocity listed on the box. I gained some respect for that ammo in the LCP II 22LR. It functions as it is supposed to in my personal LCP II.
Too bad you could not enjoy yours, though. Good choice to sell it if you never shoot it.

@@radomguy9678 Yeah, I sure wish it had worked out. I loved the fact of having a 22LR LCPII version of my 380 LCPII. It was accurate and 100% reliable too. But that trigger was so bad that it just wasn't something I ever shot. Even on a defensive pistol, there simply isn't any reason for a trigger pull to be more than 4 or 5 lbs . 8lbs is just ridiculous. Might as well go to somebody that will use it and enjoy it.

... also I have had a couple of hang ups with both Velocitor and Punch, and had a Stinger fail to fire, but it fired on the next try. All of those were surprises when they happened. To me of all people! Starting to suspect a mag problem, maybe.

They're eley primed so they should be every bit as reliable as CCI if not better. Though always check with rimfire pistols as they can be fussy with some ammo and fine with others.
