I love the black on this piece! It's so beautiful you emphasized the frames with light color wax! And the surprises inside the doors is awesome! Everything works together! Thanks so much for sharing
The veneer repair is absolutely amazing. I've watched hundreds of makeovers and this repair was the best. Also, love the black and silver. It will sell, don't worry. Nice work.
This is lovely. It’s very Old World which is why I love the paper you chose for the doors. The silver looks almost like pewter in the video which is perfect. The detail of the black felt is very nice. Staging it with the tea set is brilliant. This is very elegant with just the right amount of fance. A beautiful addition to a dining room, den or home office but also an excellent choice for an entertainment console.🌸
OhMyGoodness Taryn!!!! I’m of course Loving this Handsome Gentleman!!! From the inside out & outside in!!! The Kona stain with the black is priceless!!! The Beautiful paper & stencil & crisp black velvet are wonderful attention details!! The “restorer” oil inside IS Amazing!!! ❤️💫❤️Also Love the silver gilding wax!!! Oh & I Love that you do the poly AND the wax!!! It is modernized vintage!!! ❤️🌹❤️
Great final finish. You stuck with less is more on the outside and added the extra touch to the inside of the doors. Great choice for a paint job instead of just refinishing the wood. The black is muted and not shiny in your face which gives it a more high end look.
I think it looks awesome! It does look a little masculine and I think that makes it even better. The guys need something just for them every now and then. I really noticed a change in the volume of your voice to be loud enough without having to increase the volume. I watch YT on my TV and it’s not always the same as on the computer. Great job!
Hi Taryn, I think it is beautiful! Your mixture of the gilding wax is perfect. The whole piece is just gorgeous and so classy! I wouldn’t change a thing.❤️
I Absolutely LOVE the Simplicity and straight Lines with a Surprise pop of Vintage Inside...and You Know Me with My Black and Dark Moody Romantic niche I Do...Also Love love the Warm Wood top totally grabs The wood tones from inside...Just beautiful...I miss ya my friend....Stay blessed and safe 🥰❣️❣️👍
Thanks, Michele! You all help so much with your insights- sometimes I just keep staring are at a piece and get a bit lost. I didn’t end up changing anything and it SOLD!
Hey Taryn...another amazing transformation. YOU ROCK! If you ever feel the need to charter a plane to upstate New York, you can help me make over my parents antique buffet and China cabinet, someday to be our bathroom vanity and towel closet! What I wouldn't give to have you for a next door neighbor! Have a super week!
Thank you, Patricia! Yes, those little extra touches always make me so happy! And I’ve been told on numerous occasions that the inner doors or drawer sides have been what sold the piece. I think they make other people happy, too!
Very beautiful! Looking for a piece similar for a vanity in a bathroom upgrade. Really loving the black although I might distress to bring back some of the natural wood color underneath instead of guilding. Our home is very humble. I think your piece is a perfect accent for a more "high-end" home.
I really appreciate the instruction on this piece. I am getting ready to paint a large, closed cabinet with shelves and three large drawers. My plan is to use One in Azure, then use a copper gilding wax and copper toned handles. Your application of poly before wax just reminds me the steps I need to take. After this piece will be its more formal sister on the other side ( they separate) with glass doors and three large drawers in One, color Saturday. It will have the same handles but in a silver/pewter tone. We will see. I can't stand the stained finish on them now so anything is an upgrade. Thank you!
Really love this piece cos it is understated! If u put a little more gold into the mix of gilding wax, u might get a little more neutral toned. Either way, it’s awesome 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks, Barb! The thing sold in record time so I didn’t have to make any changes. Luckily, because I would probably of gone your route and added more gold if I looked at it longer 😂
You would never be able to find anything like this piece in any high end furniture store; I love the understating and please don't change the gilding wax color. It look super duper great!
Thank you, Barbara!!! You all are so amazing! I can’t tell you how much you help me. I didn’t change anything and it sold - so you were definitely right.
I love that piece and if I could I would love to buy it from you! It is so beautiful and the color fits perfectly. But I am from Germany. 😏Every Saturday I am looking forward to watching you videos and get inspired by you furniture art. Thanks for sharing.
I totally love the piece my goodness I would not change anything simply gorgeous love the inside of the doors everything my lord you are fabulous do you have a shop ? I think you should if you don't you are awesome !!!God Bless !!!❤️
Thank you, Amy. You may be right. I have also been doing this for years, but when I first started my work was not where it is now. That’s why I think anyone can do it. It just takes some practice. Or maybe a lot of practice 😂 But I feel like it’s definitely worth it.
Hi Taryn…You are looking well….must be that California sunshine! wow I really love this piece‼️ Not until the pics at the end could I tell the true color of it….YES🌟 Black was a great choice….so classy….I did silver around drawers like that…then mixed with gold because it felt sooo silver….In the pics looks great to me….if I would have had black I would have maybe lightly went over silver here and there if that makes sense…just an idea if it bothers you. I learned two things today that I know you said before but they stuck this time 1) Poly and let dry before next step in case you don’t like 2) finish with wax even if you already put poly on because it protects better but also gives the best sheen! Thank you for sharing and just being you❣️😊kim
Haha! Thank you! Yes, the sun is quite bright here 😂 And I know exactly what you mean- I actually thought of using clear wax to take some off. But (thankfully) it sold before I had to make any changes- woohoo! So fun when to at happens. I’m so glad you got a couple things from this video! That makes me so happy! Thanks for always being here, Kim!
I noticed you put your top coat on really thick and it always turns out so good. Do you have a video on that process and do you think its the top coat you use? 😊
I don’t have a separate video for it, but yes, I’m not afraid to lay it on a little thick. It helps it to self level. I also lightly sand between coats and finish with a wax over the top. I use two topcoats pretty consistently - the Varathane water based satin and the Chalk Mountain Satin.
I used Chalk Mountain polyacrylic here. I did do it over the paper, but not the stencil. I wanted the stencil to have a bit more “wear” to it. But if I want to keep a crisp stencil, I will go over it with poly. And I agree about the copper.
Hide glue is a deep amber color and can sometimes have a crackly appearance. It also reactivates with heat and has a reversible bond. The wood glue most people use now usually has a bit of a yellow tinge. It’s much more difficult to remove or break the bond. Usually the wood will break before the glue bond. I hope that helps, Jackie!

You are so right! It sold in a couple of days! I’m so glad I have you all reigning me in 😂
I love the black on this piece! It's so beautiful you emphasized the frames with light color wax! And the surprises inside the doors is awesome! Everything works together! Thanks so much for sharing

Thank you, Gail! Yeah, I’m looking forward to putting them front and center on something.
The veneer repair is absolutely amazing. I've watched hundreds of makeovers and this repair was the best. Also, love the black and silver. It will sell, don't worry. Nice work.
Thank you so much, Susan! And it did sell- WOOHOO!!!! It’s so exciting when they go quick.
Looks amazing! Glad you found a piece in such great shape. Makes a huge difference when there are few repairs to make. Great tips with glue! 💖💖💖

Very Stately!!! Like the elegance very much! These were ment to portray class and sophistication when built! You really improved on that theme. BRAVO

I just love your insightfulness, Deborah. Thank you for always throwing out finishing touch ideas.
Masculine or not…it’s very sophisticated. Classy….reminds me of a career naval rear admiral type of man. Anywho…another fab piece !💖💖

That cabinet looks amazing!! So handsome, elegant and refined....then the lovely surprises on the inside!! I like the silver trim!!!
I’m so glad you liked it, Caroline! Thank you!
Great final finish. You stuck with less is more on the outside and added the extra touch to the inside of the doors. Great choice for a paint job instead of just refinishing the wood. The black is muted and not shiny in your face which gives it a more high end look.
Thank you very much, I appreciate that. I was feeling the subdued elegance of the piece.
I think it looks awesome! It does look a little masculine and I think that makes it even better. The guys need something just for them every now and then. I really noticed a change in the volume of your voice to be loud enough without having to increase the volume. I watch YT on my TV and it’s not always the same as on the computer. Great job!
Thank you so much! And that’s good to know about the volume! Thank you for letting me know.
Hi Taryn, I think it is beautiful! Your mixture of the gilding wax is perfect. The whole piece is just gorgeous and so classy! I wouldn’t change a thing.❤️

That piece is spectacular, love it. Great job. The color and the extra steps you did took it over the top. Love the staging as well.
Thank you so much, Janet!
I love it. Something that is usually so feminine is now showing very masculine. The colors are right on the dot. Again I love it.
Thanks, Michele! You all help so much with your insights- sometimes I just keep staring are at a piece and get a bit lost. I didn’t end up changing anything and it SOLD!

Your way sounds lovely, too!!! I love a good distressed black finish. Thank you, Robin!
I guess everybody else loves black everything, beautiful piece i would have liked to see some color. I am entitled to my opinion!
I think it’s because I don’t typically use a lot of black on my channel. And of course you are entitled to your opinion. Have a lovely day.
I love the guilding wax. Don't change a thing.
Thanks, Barbara!

Omg Don’t do a thing to it ! It is absolutely stunning… You are amazing..
Thank you, Tamny! You guys were all right about it- it already sold!
It's very nice 👌
Thank you!
What did you do to the feet? Gorgeous outcome!love the decoupage👏👏👏
I just did that same thing as I did to the top so they matched- Sanded them down and stained them. Thank you so much!
Now is that poly acrylic? And do you poly over the stencil and paper? A copper tone would have looked great also on the gilding edges.
I used Chalk Mountain polyacrylic here. I did do it over the paper, but not the stencil. I wanted the stencil to have a bit more “wear” to it. But if I want to keep a crisp stencil, I will go over it with poly. And I agree about the copper.
How do you tell if hide glue was used previously? Verses regular wood glue? And this is an awesome piece. I love the cabinet doors.
@@elegantupgrades yes ma'am. You're fantastic. Thank you

Haha! Yeah, it’s not for everyone. But it makes me happy to have hidden things inside the doors. Thank you so much, Andrea!
What is the Bees wax you use? Do you get it on Amazon? Thanks Taryn 😊
Hey Carol-Ann! It’s from Chalk Mountain. They have a bunch of different waxes! I typically order from their website, but
they carry most of them on Amazon.
The lavender one I used is here:

And the Furniture Restore one I used isn’t there yet, but this is a similar product that they carry:

Did I miss you cleaning and scuff sanding the inside of the doors?
Yeah, I don’t film all of the cleaning and scuff sanding because it gets a bit tedious.
