    Taryn, this is worth every minute you spent fixing things! What a beautiful piece. The wash turned out seamless, you'd never know it was done with multiple techniques. Love that paper too, it's perfect for this subtle glam you've got going on. She's a beauty!

    Before I get further than 1:08 into the video, I’ve gotta say that im super excited. I’ve got one of these in my bedroom UNTOUCHED by paint. It’s currently holding towels, blankets, rags, etc…And mine is about 7 ft tall. It came out of an old farmhouse in LaGrange, TX and the home was FILLED with antiques that would make your mouth water (it did mine). The piece I have is my favorite of all the things I was able to pick through and claim. It’s from the late 1800’s/early 1900’s. Still has the original hardware and casters. Wish I could post a pic of it on here! It’s super cool. Anyways, back to the video. Can’t wait to see what you did with yours. Love your work! ❤️

    Love how you were able to get the different types of wood to blend together using various dilutions of stain. I have a music cabinet that has at least two types of wood so that method may come in handy. I love the soft ,sort of lacey finish you have achieved. It makes the piece less heavy looking and I love the wallpaper too. The wallpaper helps make the piece feel more feminine and graceful. Again making it feel less heavy and clunky. Wonderful job on this chifferobe!!!

    I too have one just like yours. It belonged to my maternal grandparents. There’s no mirror on the wardrobe side but the little one is still perfect. My grandfather put in some shelves and we use it in the kitchen as a pantry. The drawers separate out my tools for easy access. My collection of blue and white sets on top for me to enjoy from my chair

    In England there are no built in closets. We use wardrobes and there are some beautiful ones to be had. The one in my bedroom is 400 years old. These small wardrobes, or chifforobes, are almost exclusively used for babies/small children (they are actually just a little smaller than this one). The chifforobe I had as a child belonged to my great, great grandmother and then was handed down through the generations to my mother, then to me and now to my son. I really like what you did with this one. You did a wonderful job.

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 роки тому +1

      So much history!!!! I love that. Yeah, we have so many newer houses that wardrobes have become almost obsolete. It makes me so sad because they really are beautiful. You can’t even count a room in a house a ‘bedroom’ here if it doesn’t have a closet, it has to be called an office. So bizarre. And we have a ton of the little Chifforobes here for children. I had been dying to find a large one like this - just for myself 🥰

    Anyways, moving onto your piece!!! I Love it❤️🌸❤️ I’ve been waiting for you to do!!! I’m an Old Lady-57 about to be 58-I Love flowers and lace all my life!!! I think you are an Olde World soul!!! A Heart just Loves what it Loves!!! Your piece looks similar to mine. Mine has a rectangular mirror on right and an oval mirror on left top. Both mirrors intact with Berle looking wood-and even the backing!!!-with the same tacks in yours!!!! I think these particular pieces are called Gentleman’s Armoire. Mine still has the original “hanger” that pulls out-rolls out. Mine doesn’t have the delicate legs like yours. Mine is built onto a cabinet at the bottom that extends about 4 inches and houses a long curved drawer!!! I Live this piece. I agree with you, the piece speaks to you as you do all the repairs!!!!! My plan with mine is to re-stain with peek-a-boo paper inside and 2 shelves where the pull out hanger is. Right now mine is holding my diff tools. I want this piece in my bedroom!!! And make mine as Elegant as yours!!!

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 роки тому

      Yours sounds awesome, Cathy! I love oval mirrors! I wish this one had that. And my hanger doesn’t slide out, I was hoping that it would when I initially found it. And girl, you are nowhere near old. But I am making an “old lady” club for us not so old ladies who love old lady things 😂
      You’re gonna have to keep me posted on how yours turns out.

    I always tell people, if you are going to paint a piece of wood furniture, use some kind of wood sealer. Spray on poly or something similar. It will keep paint out of the wood grain and make it a lot easier to strip it if you change your mind.

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 роки тому

      Yes, that’s a very good tip! Thanks, Wanda. I think this will be the last round of anything on those drawer fronts. I imagine I’ll just replace it when I go to change it up next time since it was so brittle. But I just thought it was still so beautiful I wanted to keep it a little longer.

    Some trivia: Chifforobe is the combination of two words, Chiffonier and wardrobe. It was made up by Sears and Roebuck in the early 1900's. I enjoy these episodes so much. I missed the live session this week. But I'll be sure and be there for the next one.

      Oh! Fun facts, I love it. Thanks, Richard. And you didn’t miss the live, I was driving to CA when this one published and the next won’t be live either. I’m in the mountains and the only reception I get is when I go to town 😂

    Thank you for panning the finished chifforobe at the end of your video. And also for showing it with the door open. One thing I find frustrating on a lot of the furniture refinishing videos is that they show the work up close almost the whole time without stepping back to show a long shot of the item and the progress. You did that in this video. It was helpful. Sometimes it is so close you can't get a sense of proportion to how it fits into the overall piece. So you have to wait until the very end to see the whole thing. I am an artist and I don't like that. I wouldn't show my artwork that way. Also, I think people want to have a look at the piece again so they don't forget the goal. Another frustration is when some only scan it for a few seconds at the end of the video with mostly close up shots. That doesn't give a sense of the piece like you did in this video. I really like before and after sequences at the end too. I have unsubscribed from some channels for not showing enough of the journey. The changes. For keeping it all close up. I want to enjoy how pretty it is. But some people just give a few seconds and then it's over. I think that's really terrible. You want your audience to enjoy the end result. And reward them for watching the whole process. I really appreciate how you filmed the finished piece.

      I just want to say thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment. It’s great to hear the things you like to see in the videos. I do try to make sure I get enough shots to show the overall look. Sometimes I do better than others, but I’m glad this one gave you a sense of completeness in the piece. Thank you!

    This was so inspiring! Love love love your videos. I binge watch them all of the time. Quick question, what is the product you used with the Q-tips to test for lead before paint removal? I know 3M makes sets for this put they are pricey at $30+ for 3 swabs. Was wondering if there is a more economical alternative to be safe for those of us refinishing antiques frequently. Thanks!

    Love the wallpaper inside . Looks it was a hard project. Would like to offer some pointers on your presentation. While I enjoy the backstory it would be nice to have you move the piece over so we can view it while you talk. There was a lot of room to the side of where you were sitting that we could have seen the piece . I’ve noticed this in many of your videos . I wait to see it at the end and then we don’t get a good long look at it. Just an opinion. You are very good at repairs and not a lot of furniture painters are . ✌️
