Michael Landau is without a doubt one of the most original guitarists of all time, instantly recognizable. Definitely in the Hendrix school but there's so much else going on as well. One of our favorite collaborators.
This is what you get when you have the chops and musicality to be a fist call session ace on platinum selling pop records but have the power and soul of a proper old-school rock guitar player. Landau is just legendary...
Michael Landau , My Favorite Guitar Player He has it all . Steve Gadd has him in His band , Vinnie had him at the Modern Drummer Festival in 2000 , then Toured with Karizma , first Call Player for James Taylor , Joni Mitchell had Mike in her band with Vinnie on the drums again, The Great live recordings at Baked Potato with Greg Mathieson, Abe on Bass , Vinnie, Then i just found out when Marcus Miller did his Radio Show , and he played a tune off of Joe Sample Album Spellbound , Mike did the Most Tastiest R&B Soulful Guitar work on one of the songs . There must be Hundreds of sessions he played on in L.A. And to put it in perspective i am very fond of Jeff Beck , Hendrix, Larry Carlton , Lukather, Steve Vai. But Man , the emotions Mike brings across with his Playing is resonating on Many levels with me .
AWESOME! Finally Michael & the band get some properly recorded videos :D Thanks Fender for putting Michael in the spotlight for a while he absolutely deserves it! They are killing it as usual, great playing from everyone.
This is going way out there to say this...But I am going to do it anyway. Michael is Hendrix like in that he's one with the instrument when he plays. This is close to Hendrix as I've seen anyone play. There is a rawness and energy here that you DO NOT find with just any guitar player.
Really great, More Amps please! I think you could just make the whole backdrop Amps, Maybe the drummer, could be playing inside a giant Amp. Why hold back? These guys are incredible!!!
I've seen a ton of superb guitarists live, and tops for tone were Michael Landau, Allan Holdsworth, Eric Johnson, and Michael Schenker - in that order.
Incredibly inventive guitarist! Wow...just stumbled across looking at Fender amp demos. He reminds me of a guy I was super fortunate to know and call my friend, Steve Bishop out of Nashville, via DC, LA, Seattle....you can google him, make sure to add Nashville. He was voted in the top 10 unknown guitarist's by Vintage Guitar mag. Anyway, this Michael Landau was a really cool find!
Does anyone know what pedal he’s using to get that almost wah like sound at 6:03? Is that a wah/fuzz combo to make that unique sound or is it something different? Thanks!
I know this comment is 4 years old but, I think he was using the fuzz already and then stepped on the wah in conjunction with it. Thats what it looked and sounded like to me.
They should have Robin Trower do this endorsement for fender. Trower has so much expression and has sold the idea of playing a Stratocaster (including me)😄 .
He uses old Fedner guitars exclusively, though. He can drop me off one of his old Tylers anytime he gets tired of looking at the case he hasn't opened in years, though. I still need to catch up on the shit he was playing then...

So refreshing...
No shredding at all. His guitar is more of a barly tamed beast, waiting to get unleashed.

I really appreciate Gary Novak as one of few drummers who are able to comfortably and confidently navigate between jazz and rock. He’s a monster.
The master of the stratocaster, always a joy to watch him play!
Reminds me of Cream and Hendrix. Mikes an inspiration
Mr Landau's fingers + feeling + strat = class
Anybody knows some songs or albums where he uses his signature chorus sound? You know, the arion sound...
Mr. Landau, Mr. Novak and Mr. Hamilton !!! my most fave musicians
- More of this music all around us !!
Reggie Hamilton's bass sounds awesome. The B-string is tight!
Nothing cooler looking than a beat up Fiesta Red Strat...
Gary Novak DRUMS this guy adds so much to the mix..Top 10
Just idly listening and suddenly a vision of Hendrix... Sublime
"You really got me, you really got me"
Michael Landau Is a Legend..
That drum sound... fire.
51 minutes more of this please .❤️
These guys are cutting a hole in the sky here........
Most musically interesting 3 piece band I've heard, these guys are great!
I’m shocked I didn’t know Michael Landau was my favorite guitar player until today
The best of the best. Hard to look away from Mike, but Reggie and Gary are destroying in this!
Superb Tone from a Superb Guitarist.
Fabulous 3 man band act.
Keep coming here to listen this.
Thank You Fender.

That neck pickup tone is obscene. So good
So good to see this. These guys are all veterans in every style of music. Tight!
Michael landau playing so deep soulful and beautifull
Fender will always be the best!

That's a whole different way of looking at what a guitar part should be.
Interesting stuff.

SRV tone is beautiful
Michael returns to Brazil
Lol I just bought his 1972 Park 75, a 50 watt Marshall...pretty hyped!!!!!!!!
The only guy who I forgive to sport a headstock tuner
love your work!!
Simply the best
One of ONJ's guitarists on the Physical Tour. That's what I remember most about him.
Glad I've discovered this guy now Jeff B. is no longer with us 😢...the world still needs guitar heroes 🙌 🙏 ❤️
We want more of this!
I'm thinking about going to see this band perform at the Baked Potato on Saturday. I definitely want to go now after seeing this video.
I wish to visit the Baked Potato some day. I hope that I'll make it to Studio City when Colaiuta, Landau and all their buddies are playing again. :)

WOW took me bt surprise.
WoW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
beast mode

Can't believe I almost skipped these videos because Fender usually has such lame acts. These guys are super man, my mind is blown :)
Yeah, Landau is a straight up fkn beast.
Killer stuff!!
Superb phrasing
"hey, can we get a couple more fender logos in the shot?"
that tone is fucking mind blowing !!!!!
That's the vintage pre CBS 60s Stratocaster sound that blues tone freaks absolutely cherish and seek world wide! AKA the Strat tone of the masters!
His action is also super high.
High action is common on those old school Fender 7.25 radius fingerboards it prevents fretting out issues..
Then it has the more modern custom shop 9.5 radius fingerboard not old rounded vintage 7.25.. Why such high action then?
Pablo is so dead on...Strat tone 9n fire..MONSTROUS.
great performance...if he added the fuzz with univibe then he would sound like hendrix...somehow same licks....great band.
Great sound!
Awesome
Fiesta red OMFGGGGG
Mantap skali....sukses selalu Fender....Sy pengguna Fender Original....thx
Listen to the lyrics. 🥶 what a song 🔥

Landau is a fucking legend!!! Greetings from Spain
Cose Della Vida brought me here!
Can hear robin trower in this guy..cool
It always mystifies me how anyone could vote this thumbs down! Obviously ignorance & jealousy at work here... Landau is a god of taste, feel & tone!
Does anyone know what pedal he’s using to get that almost wah like sound at 6:03? Is that a wah/fuzz combo to make that unique sound or is it something different? Thanks!

This mix is fantastic..lots of butt-shaking rumble with Landau laying the fire on top
Awesome! Pls invite other Fender legends!
Fender heaven....OMG sounds.... Hot

Excelente.
I also liked Denzel Washington in Training Day...
WOW!!!! :)
This is the best thing ive heard in forever! Fucking amazing!
I was hoping they'd play Chocolate Rain.
the riff I think, might have been inspired from Sunshine of your love
I was thinking exactly the same !!
They should have Robin Trower do this endorsement for fender. Trower has so much expression and has sold the idea of playing a Stratocaster (including me)😄 .
Congrats Mike, you have now become a commercial for Fender.
He uses old Fedner guitars exclusively, though. He can drop me off one of his old Tylers anytime he gets tired of looking at the case he hasn't opened in years, though. I still need to catch up on the shit he was playing then...
Absolut.
oh mother!!!!
