NOTHING about this was boring! On the contrary, it was super informative & helpful (per usual!). I don't think I'm alone when I say that I really enjoy all the "behind the scenes" videos...where you show us how you get such a green lawn, how you maintain your beds, the addition or removal of any hardscapes, the planning & execution of ideas for your garden, etc! It might be mundane for you, but I guarantee SOMEONE out here IS learning something new :)
Hayley Wise I agree with you Haley. I love these type videos. I have learned so much from Laura. We appreciate any info Laura is taking the time to share.
I concur with Haley!
Laura, will you please talk about the tie in to your water supply as well as talk about water pressure. Thanks! This was a very informative video.
I just found your channel this winter and have binged watch almost all your videos so far. Thank you for being so informative and knowledgeable! You have help me cope threw a long cold winter here in Michigan and I can’t thank you enough for the motivation you’ve given me to get out in my gardens and get my butt to work!!!!!🌸🌷🌹🌻🌼
How many feet is on that one run and what/where is the source? I have one outside hydrant that I need to water several areas from and I have several long runs. I don't know how to set up different zones and I can't find any informational videos to help me out. It seems simple if you have a small area to irrigate and you can find several videos on that but none on large applications. Please help!!
How long should your runs be? I'm assuming it may depend on your water pressure, but I have no clue how to figure any of that. I like how you have a stem in each of your garden raised beds. I wish you had a video on how that was installed.
According to the Dig Company who make the irrigation lines you should run no more than 300 ft of line off one faucet.
How do you know whether or not you can do the whole thing on one line or if you have to split to two lines? I have 9 raised beds. They are 4'x14'.
EXCELENTE VÍDEO GOSTEI DE MAIS MUITO OBRIGADO PELAS INFORMAÇÕES Garden
Great video! I'm new to gardening so I for one want to know every little detail about everything. Your channel has become my everything. Although I had previously researched affordable irrigation solutions I still thoroughly enjoyed the video and felt kind of good that I knew exactly what you were talking about without it being a total breaking news event for me!🤣🤣
For those of us in non high desert areas with normal water you could always tap into your existing sprinkler system and use something like Mister Landscraper (Lowes) to add actual plant specific sprinklers for your beds. Or if you don't have an existing sprinkler system you can hook it up to a faucet with timer. Thank u Laura for all you do. Monique, Macon GA
The little snippet in the beginning was really cute. Great editing, Aaron! I LOVE informative videos. When I have questions I immediately go to your channel to see if you have talked about a "mundane" subject. Often I find you are the only one who has a good quality video. Keep them coming!
Your videos are NEVER boring. I love them, my family loves them as do all my friends. Thank you!!!!
Never boring! That Russell is a hard working kitty! ❤️❤️😊
Russell 😂😺❤
Drip line irrigation is my favorite subject right now! Thanks for the video!
Right at the moment I was thinking but what about us that need to install one, you answered that question lol... We get weekly rain (usually) & good storms here & the humidity is awful but it gets really hot with the humidity. So this wld save watering almost every evening in the summer..
Hi Laura! Here in NC we’ve had some rain so plants are looking really good just finishing watering the ones under patio and porch. We are considering running lines in our garden just becouse we plan to travel this summer. So thank you so much for this video. Nice helper there good job Russel!❤️🌹🌷🌹🌷
Hi sorry hijack your today’s tutorial
But can you tell me please how to cut back a Passion flower.
Last years was amazing & hopefully it will be again this year. Ps I live in England 🏴 in the midlands,
The midlands is just England not the middle of the whole of the uk
Love your video & Iv been a subscriber quite awhile now please keep them coming 👏👏👏
Yours Jacqui
Thank you so very much I’m going to look into that for my beds. Appreciated.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I installed a drip system this year. What a difference It Made.I used Soak'r Hose's for years, but they don't put water exactly were you want it.I set mine up in my Garden.I can drain it and roll it up at the end of the growing season, put it back out after planting.I can put exactly how much water, where I want It And on what plants I want.Soak'r hose's still work good, with all of the options you need to think about what your doing, water's not getting any cheaper.I cut my Water Bill by a 1/3.The City Came and changed out the Water Meter a month later. If I was using more water(a leak),THESE CROOKED BASTARDS WOULD HAVE LET IT GO UNTIL I CALLED THEM!!! BEEN THERE,DONE THAT WITH THESE BASTARDS!!!
Excellent video!!! Thank you for listing all the supplies and steps. You guys are awesome!!! 🙏💕🐱
I found you when researching plants I wanted to order for my pots/garden about a week ago. You are so pleasant & informative! We live in a dry, hot as hades, clay infused rocky limestone area of Texas. I love your videos! I want to put in drip irrigation in the two back L shaped beds that I have finally cleared of roots from the ornamental grass & boxwood type shrubs that were there before we moved in 12 years ago. I wasn’t sure how to tap into the pvc underground pipes & I wouldn’t have known not to run drip system from the one pop up sprinkler & 3 risers that are in each bed now, but instead to cap off all but one of them. I hate the way they pour out water & whack the plants. I’ve replanted the beds except for the blue native salvias I kept and absolutely have to put in the drip system asap so your video really helped!
All of your videos addressing drip irrigation have been extremely helpful. I have learned a lot. Your clear explanations and excellent video shots (thank you Aaron) have helped to make the subject less intimidating. Oh, I have plans for next year! Thank you.
Actually super interesting! Thanks for sharing. I always love your videos especially the informative ones☺️👍🏼
Hey, that's exciting video for me! Excellent content and love how Aaron shows the pictures of the connectors evolved and how you are so hands on. Love it! ❤
I am no stranger to irrigation but I have a question:
Do you keep the tubing in the flower beds over the winter?
I really don't want to have to take them out. I am in zone 8, I do take the hoses out and cover the faucets but I only have 3 faucets and it's not big deal, but this will be for me. Thanks for sharing.
Camelia, Laura mentioned in video a while back that she and Aaron hire a guy in early winter with a big, heavy duty compressor to blow out the lines so that there is no moisture left to freeze. It may have been the video where she planted trees along the driveway, then installed tubing, then covered the area with landscape cloth.
Thanks Don, now that you mentioned it I remember that. I have a compressor but not a huge one! Thanks again Don appreciate you answering my question!
I enjoy seeing the 'how to' of why your garden & yard are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing
No it’s not boring
It’s important information to know
Thanks for sharing
I love your videos!! I apologize ahead of time for being off subject! I really wanted to ask if you notice your boxwoods have a less than pleasant smell and if there are certain types that don't smell so much like.... Cat pee?😒 I LOVE boxwood enough to put up with smell but if you've noticed a type with little to no smell I would be so happy!!! Also I'm loving your sneakers!!!! 😍
Interesting! A neighbor recently mentioned that she can't stand the smell of boxwoods. But I have never noticed an odor from them. I wonder if only certain people are sensitive to it. This is the first I've heard of it. I'd be interested to find out. Good luck to you!
Not converting as much as replacing. Still thumbs up!
I know Aaron asked if we would please watch through the ads....but this State Farm commercial has really got to go. I'm really trying not to hit the skip button cause I know little Benjamin and Russell would miss out on the benefits. 😉😉😉
LOL, sorry but I can't watch through those ads. Will not allow the advertisement business rule my life!!
julie011569 Same here those commercial are annoying Lol
I know they can't chose which ad plays, so I always just turn my volume down till Garden Answers comes on hehe..
Love the videos no matter the subject Watch the Ads to keep Garden Answer online and making more videos
Rosemount Farms:Yes
Love your video's but the title should be capping sprinklers and adding drip to a flower bed, as you didn't really convert the sprinklers into a drip you capped them offf, sorry.
Very nicely done! Informative. I’m surprised that you had the water pressure to serve all of the drip tubing.
Does it make a difference if you use 1/4 or 1/2 tubing ? My center has 1/2 tubing but it’s .9 gph and the 1/4 is 1 gph
Great tutorial. Could you make a video to show how to connect the main drip line to a sprinkler system head? I don't have an existing drip line but I do have a sprinkler system.
LOVE IT!!! Thank you! Would you please talk about the different timers? I definitely need to set up a drip system this season.
Thanks for this video. I really need to insta a drip system this year. I have a question. Do you need to bring everything inside during winter?
Would anyone know if anyone can use the holes in the brown drip line for inserting emitter/emitter joints?
does the size of tubing make that much difference? .700 vs. .710
Can you mulch over 1/4” emitter tubing spaced 6”?
I made a diagram with ALL my sprinkler heads, it is hell to find if you were to change your mind.
Thank you so much for this! You make it so easy and I LOVE your channel! You are so inspiring. Please keep going! ❤️
Agree with all you said Sara! Echoing your sentiments over here!
Buenas tardes, pudiera informar si las mangueras tienen agujeros en su longitud?
What is the GPH? Your link does not correspond to what you installed.
Helpful video! I put down drip last year using similar tubing to yours and a faucet adapter. I had a horrible time with the tube popping off the adapter, leaving a mud pit beside the house. Does anyone have ideas of how to secure it better?
Tricia Cocklin same thing happened to me only I was on vacation when it happened. Pressure regulator didnt really work.
Questions. Does the high pH (white stuff) eventually clog the soaker holes? And how long can a line run with still having pressure at the end for water to come out? This was a great video. Thanks.
Victoria Gibbons the white stuff is calcium aka hard water deposits. Not ph related.
What do you do in the fall to make sure there isn't water remaining in the tubing?
love it do more things like this
Thank you for making this video!!! I was hoping we would get one on this very subject. This was great. I installed a small section last year after growing tired of hauling sprinklers around ever night to multiple sections of yard. I had to wing it because I couldn’t really find anything anywhere online. I’m so glad you made something. I made the mistake of doing it in hot July. I have one more section to do that I knew I wanted to do in cooler weather, but I didn’t even think about doing it before the plants come up. So smart!
I like how you shared the video on the drip system because you always talk about it and I was wondering how it worked I saw one video where you even had drip system going through potted plants. Thank you
Irrigation is super important!! Thanks to you I was able to start my irrigation system and was able to understand it!! It was such a daunting task and don’t have the budget to have someone install it, so THANK YOU!! I’ve learned soooooo much in your channel!!
Who is the person that disliked this amazing video
That is always my question too - do they ever post a comment?
Susan Kilpatrick i looked through all the comments no bad ones and laura, aaron, ben, and russel should know by now that whatever they post on this channel everybody will love
Thanks for the informative video! We get plenty of rain most summers here in Ohio and I think it's terrible if I need to get out a sprinkler even once during the summer:/ I enjoy all your videos even if I don't use the ideas:)
can you please make another succulent video
Boring?? Not a chance! Of all your videos so far, the two I've seen on how to create irrigation have blown my mind! I had NO idea how to make it happen and was lamenting all the flowers I could not keep watered. NOW, thanks to you and your fabulous editor (is it your husband?) I can make a plan with my husband and we can get-er-done. I now have confidence, because of seeing what you do, to build gardens as I have dreamed AND maintain them by good watering. I live in northwestern Michigan where we get tons of snow, rain and humidity and still...flowers get VERY thirsty. Appreciate your time to show us all what you're doing and how we can do it too. THANK YOU!
Hello Laura, I'd like to share my experience with you. I live in zone 5 like you, in Montreal, Canada. I watched your drip irrigation videos and was convinced that I should get my overhead irrigation system changed to drip irrigation. However a specialist advised me against it. He even said that he takes out more drip systems than he installs. His reasons were that the squirrels chew through them, they get clogged and unless you cover them up with mulch, they are unsightly. Also they only last about 3 years. Since we have 100+ year old trees, home to hordes of squirrels, we decided to stick with our system. Also, we don't live in a drought prone area here in Montreal so there is no particular need to conserve water. I just wanted to share that with you.
LOVE, love, love your videos!
Do you cover the drip tubing completely with mulch, so it's completely hidden? Or leave some of it visible? Thx!
After about 42 trips to the (unhelpful, unknowledgeable) big box retailer, I’m so happy to have found your channel. Definitely will be taking a different approach to the rest of my flowerbeds! You’re so clear and quick with your explanations and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Was that a Home Depot trip (at the beginning)? Lol reason I ask, is you used the same background music as the LCN used at a Home Depot run.... 😂 I’m lovin it!
I've watched this video at least 5 times trying to prepare myself to do the drip system throughout my whole flower beds and veggie/fruit garden. You stated that it probably seemed boring to watch/not the most exciting video but for someone like me, that is exactly the opposite. I've watched the professional videos and they don't explain nearly as well as you do. I learn so much with every video you do, drip installation included. I've gardened since I was 8 years old and am now 83. You are a wonderful teacher in the gardening world. Now, you have inspired me to do that drip system. Come fall that is my big project so I have it all done before Spring. I figure if I just do one line a day I should be finished by February. Thank you for the wonderful service you and Aaron offer so many times a week for us gardening nuts. Oh, and I do believe you two have the cutest kids I've seen in a long time. Benjamin is fascinating me with how his vocabulary is increasing by leaps and bounds.
It is such a thrilling subject Laura!! Thanks to all your drip videos I just installed my first timed (😅) system all by myself. I was so excited to hear that drip sound as-well. Great to report no other unplanned water squirts happened and im thrilled. It was a bit of a project to source all materials early spring but it is well worth it. I live in Michigan and although we get good rain.. it is not sufficient especially during long summer days. I have a ton of new limelights that will love the water consistency. Thank you so much for sharing. I cant wait to finish off all my beds with drip. I do have a question, if my beds are all around the house, do i have to use the black tube all around the house and connect the brown at each bed section or just connect brown to brown if beds are fairly close to each other like you did in this video? Thank you, its a joy to watch you guys!! 🌻
Great information! I live in Albuquerque which is high desert with very hard water and the house we purchased has a drip system. However we noticed some of the little stakes that are in the soil don't release water. I'm guessing they are clogged from the calcium. We had to shut our system off since it wasn't actually working. Any tips on fixing this issue?
Very good info in this video. QUESTION: What about winter?? Do you leave the system in or do you have to remove it?
I'm so grateful for all and any drip irrigation instructions because I bought a hanging basket irrigation kit and am paralyzed with trepidation. Thank you for clarifying the process but I need to watch about 25 more videos to give me enough courage to start.
Just found your channel in my search for how to gardening information! I've been researching vegetable gardens and your channel pulled up and I'm hooked! :) This video is very informative, Thank You! Wondering if I can hook a soaker house up to a sprinkler head or connection that is in my garden now? They soak the foliage of some of my plants and has caused some disease to set in. I was hoping to do this in my new vegetable garden as well so I don't have Sprinkler heads spraying the foliage there also.
Thanks! Super helpful!! I have the same problem with a perennial bed with sprinklers. I plan to cap outlying heads and try to find the main feed to that goes to that bed and run my drip system from there. Since it is on a separate timer zone than the adjoining lawn. I will cap all ends of the "abandoned" buried side just in case I ever convert the bed to to lawn (horrors!) and need in ground connectors.
Love your videos. I remember you got a fountain. How did you run electric wiring to it? Did you bury a PVC pipe or something?
Okay, so, this tubing that has holes in it, are those holes emitters? Like I mean is the water coming out of them controlled and regulated in some way so it doesn’t just spray? Or are they just regular holes and the water just leaks out? I’m just wondering if I buy that kind, do I also need to buy emitters to go on all the holes.
Lydia Speth it just drips out the holes in the tube that are equally pre-spaced instead of creating your own hole in a tube that has none. It's more efficient and less expensive than putting an emitter every few feet if you want to drip to an entire large area like she did in the video.
not a conversion. Added to existing drip.
Weird question, what is yours and your hubby's astrology sign? My guess is capricorn and virgo
Thanks for the informative video. Great layout. One issue I had when I capped my old irrigation pipes was that they leaked. You may want to seal them with Teflon thread tape. That fixed the problem I had.
As someone who is planning on buying their first house irrigation is thrilling. I'm more of veggie grower, but I'm learning the art of landscape design.
Wow - I would never had guessed from your lush green drone shots that you guys were high desert!
Very helpful. Getting ready to try this in my flower beds with a timer. Wish me luck. Your videos help.
Good job. What pressure do you use? And what is the total flow for the system? Thanks.
Awesome video. It’s hard for me to comprehend only raining twice or a few time more in the summer. It rains here all the time. Last summer was one that rained at least 2 or 3 times a week and sometimes more than that. It creates a lot of weeds!!! The pretty things need sunshine to grow and look good but the weeds don’t care! This type of irrigation would be good for my beds that are not close to my house. Thanks for showing us how to install.
Have a great week! 🌺🌼🌺
You would not love the rain as much as you believe 😂... I’m in a tropical country and 5 days barely any sun is no fun
I am looking at putting this in my landscape just to take care of watering when I can't find time to do it. Thank you!!
Hey Laura, what kind of mulch did you put on the beds over the drip tubing?
To prepare for winter, do you have to drain the tubing? Or, because there are weep holes, isn't it necessary?
Not boring at all. Just what I needed to see and learn from. This is good stuff. Thanks. Keep it coming
Hi Laura, may I know what’s ur flower color scheme for this coming spring 2018.
I'm lost on ur watering tubes wear do start? I have a well only one Spicket??
I have risers/ bubblers. Could I attach drip tubing to them?
I learn something with each irrigation video!! Thank you
Great video guys! Was wondering if you might consider putting together a video on the care for citrus trees?😁🍋
Can you make a video describing the different between soaker hose and drip hose?
Would you ever consider collecting rain water and using grey water to water the lawn and plants?
How does water flow evenly? Will the pressure be not low towards the end? Especially in slopes?
The tubing is pressure compensating but it is recommended that it be used on relatively flat ground. I have mine on a slightly sloping bed and it works fine from beginning to end.
Would you talk about greenhouse? I think I want one and would love some tips .
what if you want to put in a drip system into a flower bed that is stand alone surrounded by grass?? would you just dig a trench from the tap to the bed??
I have a sprinkler system and instead of capping them off I wanted to see how to convert those sprinklers to drip. I know it can be done but I have a set up where one zone waters both the grass and the flower beds. Not sure if I can water both grass and flower beds at the same time. In other words not sure if both the grass and the flower beds need the same water scheduke
Exactly what I needed. I want to see the full garden in spring.
U need some "garden answer" reusable bags for your shopping ☺👍
Thank you Laura. I need to get drip irrigation done for all my new plants now and this is very helpful info. Just the thought of running an individual drip for each plant separately is so overwhelming. I'm gonna try this out. Now I also know what all things I need to buy for this. :)
Great video as always. Just wondering what you will do with those lines for the winter. Do you blow them out, or are the drip holes enough so that it self-drains?
Thank you very much for sharing the information. I have been wanting to do this in my garden and didn’t want to have to pay a company to come in and do it.
Hmmm, I think I need to add a drip irrational to my veggie garden. Thanks Laura!
Not boring very much needed Thank you 👍🙂
Oh thank you so very much, I would love to have a drip hose system, that is on my wish list, as I mentioned before, I have a small yard, but not great soil either. I also want an arbor in my yard, that is one thing that is going to happen this year. Thank you for the great tips, I really learned a lot, love love love this channel, also Russell is so cute!
Good idea I like that a lot better
We are high desert as well. Do you roll up you hoses in the fall for winter? Or keep them ou?
so grald to see that you have plenty of help between your husband, son and the cats :-D
