Rod Holders for the Boat - Scotty Triple Rod Holder Review and Install (How To)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Review and installation of Scotty rod holders for my aluminum boat. This setup can work on many types of boats. It can be mounted as a flush mount, or with the included adjustable base. The rod holders allow for custom horizontal or vertical positioning of your fishing rods, and can work for both trolling or anchored fishing. I mounted the base with stainless steel hardware to prevent corrosion. The boat is a 1991 Sea Nymph Sidewinder 17 foot.

@5:06 The "inboard" arrow on the base is important because when installed with the arrow in the proper direction, the rod holder can only be taken out and inserted when facing inboard. That means the rod holder can't accidentally come out while you are fishing.
Ah ha! That makes total sense, thanks!
That would be perfect for my boat! Nice tutorial tom
Can't wait to to put those rod holders to work!
Nice! I didn't know you bought a boat sure we will see some sweet videos this summer!
I can't wait until the ice melts!
@@OutsidewithTom me either both for the big trout and seeing you up your game with the boat very cool
That is very cool I like that may have to look into one thanks buddy

@@OutsidewithTom waterbugs planner boards are cheap and nice
@@catfishruinedtrophycatfish7998 Cool, thanks.
1) I think they want you to mount it with the arrow like that because most people are righties. If you mount it the other way, you would have to twist counter-clockwise to lock some devices in, which is counter-intuitive. Not sure.
2) I’m gluing 4 Scotty mounting “pads” onto my new inflatable catamaran. One for a rod holder, one for their anchor lock device, and another for a combo tray and GPS.
This morning, before I saw your video, I ordered this triple mount, which I want to use for a gaffe and nets. I don’t mind if the butt of these devices touch the boat floor (in fact I prefer it), so I just need an open tube type device to hold them upright. But I can’t justify buying three rod holders just for this purpose.
As it is, my wife wants to kill me because I’ve been spending so much money.
I didn’t find anything on Scotty’s website, but any idea if anyone makes just a cheap ring type thingy that I cam mount on this?
Thanks, and thanks for the video!
Aside from using 3 rod holders, I don't really have any other ideas for your gaffe and nets. There are those cheap rod holders that are just 3 plastic tubes attached together. Can be found in about every sporting goods store. I have one of those on my boat. Thanks for watching, Ira.
Outside with Tom I figured it out;
I cut three pieces of dowel about 10” long. (It was actually a bird’s perch.) A little Dremel sanding on the end for about an inch and it fits in there nice and snug.
Now, I have to find eye hooks/big circles with wood screw ends, but the stems have to be really long to clear the gunnel. Might have to put a small block of wood on the dowel to give me the extra inch or so I’ll need to clear the gunnel.
Two hooks for each dowel, to keep the nets from slipping around.
Nice work!
Outside with Tom Oh, yeah. I’m brilliant:
I’m gonna risk getting a deadly virus in order to buy $1.87 worth of screws for a boat I can’t use until God knows when.
@@Ira88881 Hahaha!
Really nice looking setup... The utilily slots are for sure going to be useful.. What primarely will you be fishing for with them
I'll be using them to fish for my usual species. Catfish, carp, pike, walleye. Think I'm going to target some gar this year too. This is my first real boat, so I'm pretty excited to start using it this spring.
@@OutsidewithTom yea sweet
Cant beat scotty. Nice install. You gonna carp fish off your boat? 👍
Thanks. I definitely plan on landing some carp in the boat.
Can you use a Scotty flush Mount with the triple rod holder
Yes.
Can you mount the rod holders to the gunnel on an aluminum bass tracker?
Not sure, every boat is different.
How much did that Scotty triple rod holder cost you??? Thanks great video
Cost me $35 on Amazon back in November. Mount only, no rod holders included. Looks like the price is higher now. Bet the price will go back down after peak fishing season. Thanks for watching.
Outside with Tom No I really appreciate your comment and you getting back to me I have some Scotty mounts already but I never seen the triple rod holder I was returning for rod holders at Dick‘s because I thought they were a good deal they were junk so I looked up you on UA-cam and found your review that’s totally what I’m looking for sorry if the message comes off funny I was trying to drive great video by the way good luck fishing
Thanks, tight lines!
