Thank you thank you thank you! I purchased a kayak that has a Scotty mount in it, but I really know nothing about Scotty mounts and therefore have done nothing with it for 16 months! But thanks to your video I now understand how a Scotty Mount works, and agree with you that the Brocraft rod holder system is a much better match for the way that I fish. Had I not seen your video I never would have known that I had an option beyond the Scotty Mount brand. Again, my sincere thanks. I just purchased a Brocraft rod holder and can't wait till icemelt so I can get on the water and give it a try!
By the way, I understand what you were saying about the size of the holders, but I have to say that with some of the large rods I use the Scotty fits them much better. Sometimes, inshore or catfish rods will have a large butt cap that won't fit the Brocraft. I do have Brocraft for my smaller freshwater poles.
Hai, I have so many times wondered why they didn't move the slot for a spinning reel behind the lock. Just makes sense rather than putting your spinning reel in there upside down. Great to hear you saying that. Maybe one of the companies will take your advice.
I bought two native slayer max last year, Originally purchased scotty rod holders and got frustrated with the rods creeping down they are hard to cinch down. Replaced them with the brocraft rod holders they do not creep when they are locked down the stay there.
Hai, I ordered some of the 284 Scotties and love them for lighter rods and for spinning rods. They are much more like the Brocraft you have. I have some of the 230 Scotties and I think that is the same model you are reviewing. I had the same experience as you. They don't work as well with spinning equipment. I've set the 230s for baitcasting and the 284s for light spinning or baitcasting. The only problem I've found with the 284 model is that like the Brocraft some rod butts are too big for them. Watched your video again. Thanks a bunch.
That's good to know. I think I saw the 284 when I purchased the Scotties that I have but decided against them because of the strap lock style instead of the solid twist collar lock. I just didn't know how long they'd hold considering you are constantly opening and closing the strap. How are they holding up for you?
I think you would like the Stealth rod holders. They solve the spinning reel issue with a cam design that locks the rod handle in place. They are awesome
The Upper Left USA I know they work with the Scotty and Cabela’s bases, not sure about the Brocraft base. I have two Brocrafts for my boat because they make a 45degree mount that fits in the 45 degree gunnel slide track. Have The Stealth on a kayak. The Stealth grabs onto any rod handle solidly.
Will the yackatack 90 degree lock and load adapter work on the brocraft rod holder in this video? I want to place the 90 degree adapter in between the brocraft rod holder and the brocraft 8" extension arm . It looks like it may work, but I am unsure if the teeth are correctly aligned. LnL 1004 part number.
@@HaiTran darn it ! Thanks for replying so quick. I was hoping you might have a clue. I love the brocraft rod holder. But brocraft dosnt have a 90 degree adapter for the extension arm to rod holder. Now I have to resell my extension arm ,and go get brocraft extension arm with the starport end on it. Waisted some time and money trying to convert over.
Thanks my dude. This was super helpful! Was about to get the scotty, but brocraft it is! Did a 180 watching this super helpful video! Using your Amazon affiliate link! =)
Aloha Hawai'i Hai, This video was just what I was looking for. I'm in the process of pimping out my new Solo Skiff, and I needed a way of mounting a transducer without drilling holes any new holes. The Solo Skiff has a 1.24" diameter carry handle in the stern. Scotty's makes a perfect rail mount their #245-BK but I did not like their transducer mounting arm design. Brocraft make a great transducer arm but no rail mount. Your video showed me the BroCraft is compatible with the Scotty base so I just placed my order via Amazon. Mahalo a nui loa. I agree 110% on a better spinning rod holder. Build one specific to spinning rods, and not just a jack-of-all-trades rod holder. I fish mainly open ocean for pelagics so prefer conventional trolling reels but when fishing inshore waters I prefer a spinning setup. I'd buy both if they were available.
What would I need to use those brocraft holders on a float tube? I’ve seen the mount that comes with the fly rod holder but can’t seem to find That piece on its own.
Attwood rod holder has what u are wanting or looking for with open face rod its built like scotty but its got the slot on the bottom side like the brocraft power lock but its got a locking slide for the bottom slot also and they are like $16 and I got mine on clearance from home depot for $4 with tax got me 6 of them for $25
Unfortunately, I don't know where the holders are made. As far as degradation, I take my holders off the boat when they are not in use. They don't sit in the sun 24/7. So far I see no damage to them.
My experience exactly! The other thing is that it can be near impossible to pull a Scotty holder out of a Scotty Mount, to change the orientation, while seated in a tippy kayak. The star just fits too tightly into the socket.
both power lock systems are problem for me trolling. I really cannot stand them. They always catch when I am trying to turn them quickly to further set the hook. I prefer the brocraft also even for Erie or near Shore Michigan Coho trolling most rods will go in a brocraft.

Thanks! That helped me settle on the Brocraft!
No problem, good luck on the water 👍
I bought 4 brocraft based on this video and I've been very happy with the purchase - thanks!
You’re welcome and I’m glad to hear that!

The Scotty definitely seems more like a deep sea/large fish specialty rod holder. The Brocraft is largely more practical for most people.
@@HaiTran Thanks for the excellent information. Good advice in your review, particularly with the groove and size of the Brocraft being easier to use.
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for supporting!
Thank you for the review. You just helped me removed the scotty rod holders for the brocraft. Much appreciated.
No problem 👍

Honestly, with the current design it seems like these companies have never actually used their products. It’s such a simple and obvious fix!
I bought two native slayer max last year, Originally purchased scotty rod holders and got frustrated with the rods creeping down they are hard to cinch down. Replaced them with the brocraft rod holders they do not creep when they are locked down the stay there.

thank you, that was one of the best product reviews/ comparisons I've ever seen
Thanks a lot for that compliment. It’s very much appreciated 👍🏽

I agree with you 1000 percent!! It would not be hard at all for them to make that small change where you could lock in a spinning rod!
Whether they'll make the changes is another matter.

I just looked them up and I have to say, I'm pretty interested. Thanks for the recommendation! 👍

Thx for the review man. Can’t find crap on broscraft holders. Before I order them how sturdy do you feel for let’s say a big striped bass?
The holders are made from thick plastic so should last awhile if taken care of.

Great review. Wish I had seen it before I bought the Scotty. Nailed it with the redesign idea too.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Very useful information
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. This video definitely helped with by decision. Question: Do you recommend these for saltwater trolling?
Glad the video helped. I haven't used mine for saltwater trolling, but I don't see why they wouldn't work.

I don't have a float tube so have no input. Hopefully, someone else will be able to help.

Yak Attack Omega does the universal power lock. I assume you’ve seen them by this time?
No, I haven’t. My current holders still work so there’s no need to look for new ones.
Hi,
Just a few questions, where are the BroCraft holders made in?
Do they degrade if left out in the sun?
Unfortunately, I don't know where the holders are made. As far as degradation, I take my holders off the boat when they are not in use. They don't sit in the sun 24/7. So far I see no damage to them.
Thanks for letting me know!

Attwood rod holder designed it to lock spinning reel
