I played the ever living fuck out of this game when I was young. I've beat it countless times. About 3 years ago I rebuilt an old PS2 I got at a yardsale. I had probably over 40 games I've held onto over the years, and this was the first I played. Beat it that same night with my 2 best friends who also share my love for this game. We were like kids again. Idk how to explain, but this game holds a special place in my heart that no other game has since. The second the first crab came out of the ocean while you're trying to get that gate open still gave me goosebumps. This game terrified me as a kid! The countless hours I spent searching for fire to burn the bushes down, because I was too scared to walk through them. No matter how many times I beat this game my adrenaline would start pumping in every single firefight. The unpredictable AI kept you on your toes. I can still hear the creepy music that played every single time someone was screaming for your help when they got downed. I remember bashing the hell out of my triangle button pounding Kong's chest, and beating the shit out of anything that moved. Great fucking game. I'm sure a ton of it is just nostalgia, (I mean, look at the way I'm talking about it 🤣) but it's still a great game regardless. No online connection. No multilayer. It didn't need it IMO. I'd love to see a remake of this game, with all that we can achieve this day and age. Imagine lush jungles, path traced lighting, and almost every vine and rope physically swinging in the wind. This game would probably blow us away like it did in 2006. And Maybe they'll cut out all of the King Kong parts and replace them.
And idk if it was cause I was more easily scared as a kid, but there was this level that took place in a big valley and you had to watch out for velociraptors. One came at me from behind and i've never been so shook in my life lol
Saving Kong in the Alternative ending by flying a plane and killing multiple other people in their planes is pretty hype. Played the PS2 version years ago and loved it to death. May have to break it out and try it again sometime. Oh yeah and "TWO MAGAZINE ON BACK UP!"
I could never beat the alternative ending! 😭 Also there was a bonus "extra" only accessible if you went online but the website's since shut down and I never unlocked it :(
I remember when I was a kid, and a friend of the family helped install our first PC, and it came with a CD of this game. The dude just installed and started up the game for fun, and called me over, to sit in the chair. It was not only our first home computer, but also my first ever videogame experience, so I had nooo idea what to expect. I recall sitting in that boat in the intro sequence, looking around with the mouse, mouth wide open. I asked with confusion: "Wait, is this a game or a movie?" Dude just replys "Both." with a chuckle. So eventually I got to the crabs, and I was scared shitless. Somehow I made my way through, heart racing like I was in real danger. Then came the giant crab, and my heart just sank. I had spent all of my ammo on the little guys, not knowing I could run out, and I didn't get that I could use the bones as spears, so I was helpless. As the big fucker comes at me, roaring and limbs outstretched, I just screamed and bolted away from the screen, locking myself in the bathroom. I didn't even know that esc pauses the game. So yeah, it was absolutely magical.
I had a similar first experience with this game. One of my dads friends brought over the original Xbox version the week it released. I ran out of ammo at the small crabs and just handed the controller to my dad when the big one showed up. I spent the rest of the night playing Blinx lol.
Some of the most memorable deaths in gaming include Ghost, Aerith, Eli Vance, and of course Hayes from this game. His death was *almost* as bad as Ghost's was, since there was so much character development. Whenever you get split up with Hayes, it makes the game that much more lonely. R.I.P Hayes, fly high brother :(
I can remember the scene where you finally leave Skull island and the plane is slowly flying away from it. I don't know why but it was one of the strangest feelings I've had from a game where I was so happy to finally leave the depths of hell from the horrifying encounters I faced , but also a feeling of sadness that the long and never ending journey had finally come to an end.
I think it's only second to Eternal Darkness, and that's only because that game legit made you think you were insane sometimes (ah the old DELETING SAVE DATA.... DON'T TURN OFF THE CONSOLE low sanity gig still gets me to this day).
Pretty incredible that Peter Jackson even knew about Beyond Good and Evil, let alone had played and enjoyed it, considering how poorly that game sold. Like of all the people who got to play an obscure 6th-gen adventure game, one of them was... the most recognizable Hollywood directors in history lmao
This game used to scare the SHIT outta me when I was a kid, I recently purchased it again on xbox to relive some nostalgia, and it's safe to say that it still does terrify me to this day. It's honestly so scary when you're walking around this island and you turn the camera to see a huge dinosaur bounding towards you or pretty much in your face, much like a jump scare. Not many games have made me physically jump out my skin, but this one still holds up! 😅
I remember playing this game back in 2005, back in the day a friend of mine from elementary school had the Nintendo DS version, he lent it to me for a weekend just so I could check it out and it was truly amazing, sadly my friend died from a car accident, that game will always have a special place in my heart.
5:57 one of my nightmares as a child right there. That THING attacking while in high waters and you have nothing but a broken wooden spear. My first/best screams
I love the art direction of this game. The atmosphere was like all of the best parts of the movie - exciting and terrifying. Brings back the best memories from childhood
Man its so nice to see that i wasn't the only one playing this masterpiece, so many people disagreed with me on this game. Playing as Jack was my favorite, especially when you run into the first V-Rex........most stressful moment ive ever played in any videogame
I definitely remember being prepared to laugh at a shitty movie-game conversion, and actually being blown away and going home to buy my own copy immediately and try and beat it before he did.
This game was truly incredible for the time, in terms of immersion and attention to detail. It blew my mind playing it back on the PS2, which is still my favorite way of playing it.
King Kong movie is also great. Every detail is fantastic and the action is unbelievable. It's also incredibly scored and visually poetic. Just pure fun cinema like in the old times.
As a younger brother, I'd often find myself staying up late into the night and exploring Skull Island while my brother manned the controller. This game had an amazing atmosphere to it and it enthralled us completely
That mission was the second scariest, the scariest mission for me is when you meet the T-rex for the second time and you have to distract it to allow Ann to escape :(
I had this on PSP when I was a kid and I thought playing as King Kong was amazing and felt invincible, however playing a human was traumatising, when you're walking through a dark cave and giant prehistoric centipede jumps out and eats ya face and all you've got is a bone spear to protect yourself... well scary

Everytime I heard, "Oh my god, it completely tore Lumpy apart." I'd look down and try to find his body, it was never there... What was Hayes looking at?
Nothing, he saw Lumpy get eaten and was shocked and speechless at the brutality. Then he turns to Denham and asks if he's had enough of the island yet.
What i want to know is what happened to Preston after that scene. Jimmy said he died but how could he have known? He fell down into the cavern and was seperated from Preston.
Ubisoft hasn't always been a bad word. They used to pump out gems like there was no tomorrow. Once developers realize people buy shit games and ignore cash grab dlc and other micro transactions , look at GTA V for example, Rockstar has milked that game for nearly a decade now with still no clear end in sight. RDR2 storymode is something of an exception to the rule of multiplayer games these days but RDO fits right in. Another argument is that multiplayer at the scale it's at now ruined the future for games like these as well.
look up beyond good & evil. The old days of gaming are dead it seems, where people valued story, immersion, and games that didn't have to rely on lazy multiplayer replayability.
@@fablefan69 Every single AAA game (hate that term) coming out these days are controlled by business men who have never played a video game in their life. All they see is money to be made. They don't care about the product, they just see what's trending at the moment and try to copy it instead of creating something new. I despise the direction gaming is taking. Why is a AAA game with hundreds of millions of dollars in budget filled with bugs, glitches and server issues at release? Because despite having that big of a budget, the huge video game companies are trying to spend as little money as possible on servers and game testing, but for some reason there are never any problems with buying microtransactions. They don't care about what they're creating or the satisfaction of the players, as long as the initial sales are high enough to make back then money and then some. Some developers even threaten gaming sites to not release a review of a game before or on the release date, not until a week later. I'm sure this is a trend that will grow.
You know a game that no one talks about that you should review? Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure. It was developed by Neversoft and it's basically Tony Hawk but with Disney characters. It has also the worst product placements I've seen in a videogame.
Another game he should really talk about that's in an EXTREMELY popular series? Call of Duty: Big Red One or Call of Duty: Finest Hour. Probably 99% of COD fans have never played those games. Mostly everyone started with World at War or Modern Warfare.
Remember playing this when I was really young. Was that perfect balance of creepy and exciting. So many memorable lines and moments too. Definitely a lot more atmospheric when playing on an old school television or with sub par video quality. When this game is in HD it loses its charm a little.
Oh man, I can tell you the PC version has so many problems. FPS issues, random artifacting, crashing if you try to alt tab, game not allowing you to progress unless you limit your fps to 40, etc etc. It's a shame for how surprisingly good this game ended up being.
Which version? I had the crappy ps2/xbox port and had absolutely no problems with it. I played the hell out of that game. probably 8 full playthroughs during a 10 year period. not a single crash stutter or glitch. Win Vista 32...it was the only reason I kept that partition for so long just for that and a couple of other games...
JarekTheGamingDragon I don't know if you know this but there are 2 version of the game. The original that you should avoid all cost, it uses starforge drm and can break your windows and has many problems and then there is the the gamer edition which is "fine". You do need to go on the "widescreen fixes pack" site to download there fix and after that king kong runs pretty darng good.
@@BendApparatus what crappy ps2 or xbox version? Kongs model was way better in those and i think human models too where on 360 they looks retarted and also better loading screen and not just static loading image... Also lot less bugs and glitches
Same here, I actually think it did the original justice. It's not perfect but still a great tribute to the movie Jackson admired so much when growing up
It's easily one of my favorite remakes of all time, and as a life long fan of the genre I'd also say it has the best daikaiju score of any film. It frustrates me to no end we got two really respectful Godzilla films as part of the MonsterVerse and also Skull Island, which is anything but respectful to either franchise.
I absolutely loved it as a 15-year old, however in time I grew to see it as quite flawed if still greatly enjoyable-it's definitely very self-indulgent and the New York intro goes on forever.
Wow, I remember playing this game when it first came out. I was blown away by the graphics/realism. It was one of my favorite games for that period. Forgot it existed. The graphics did not hold up to my memory lol.
This game was so ahead of its time, I remember playing it when I was in 1st grade after my dad rented it, I was so sad that I had to return it and none of the other stores had it in stock. Now that it’s backwards compatible with the Xbox one I’m gonna buy it and relive my childhood :)
So gonna play this tonight.. This game was one of my favorites as a child.. I remember i was scared at first and then later i wasnt so much anymore. But one of the things i still remember clearly was the part where u had to open the gate why the t-rex was chasing u and you had to keep it distracted so it wouldnt eat your friends.. i have been stuck for weeks on that mission and would constantly restart the entire game since i loved it so much.. the day i finally beat that mission was the best and seeing more of the game was just unreal to me
I’ve played plenty of games that are supposed to be scary but this game tops all over them, absolutely terrifying running away from a Dino with that adrenaline pumping music playing
Man ill never forget being 14 and having an entire rainy weekend off school to play this game. I remember i rented it with really low expectations then proceeded to be blown away with how scary and good this game was. One of my best childhood memories will be this.
I had a lucid dream about this game as a 6 year old after playing it all day. It was like a VR version of the game, and I controlled my player by pressing the buttons and movements in my head. It was a beautiful dream. Scary as hell though.
The GC version was one of my random favorites and I can't remember even how I got it. The music, the atmosphere, the the pacing, the action.. it was just nuts for me as a kid when it first came out I can still hear Adrian Brody saying "I've got to reload" a million times because I wanted to reload when I WANTED to and not when the game felt I should
This game was my childhood, really, on PS2. I remember owning an issue of local gaming magazine (which is a local edition of the UK gaming magazine GamesMaster) having previews of the game before it came out.
i remember playing this game as a kid and it scaring the absolute life outta me. Just remember hiding in a little cave room, throwing many bones for spears getting ready to charge for a bigger spear.

I absolutely loved this game back in the day, so thrilling, adventures and scary, but I totally disagree with what you said... I had loads of fun playing as King Kong, it was awesome. Childhood memories man.
this game + godzilla destroy all monsters and save the earth were my childhood. the king kong game though will be my favorite game forever, it’ll hold a special place in my heart. i remember the first time i beat it, getting stuck, spending hours on the same level, and my first time getting the special ending. it’s truly a great game and i wish more people would play it
I used to absolutely love this game as a kid, my dad used to play Jack's levels for me cause I was too scared and would hand me the controller when Kong came on screen
15:49 love that Raycevick is on your patreon! if you've never watched any of his videos, it's well worth your time! he does fantastic video essays on games.
A remake of remaster of this game would be more perfect than I already find it. Add 2+ hrs of more gameplay A few more island creatures Update graphics and dialogue Update cutscenes Keep the same immersive environment but add even more elements and randomness to the creatures. Even better fighting mechanics, make the a.i even more intelligent and clever The creatures of the island fighting, hunting and killing each other were the highlights for me. It made them feel like animals just trying to survive. The Brontosaurus level was legit nightmare inducing, the millepedes have you heart attacks, the Venatosaurs were the apex hunters. If they could make the same game and dial it up to 3.0 while MAINTAINING the integrity and vision of the original game, it's a absolute dream of a movie game
The reason ill allways remember this game is that this was the first "shooting" game my mother would allow me to play. Took alot of talking from my side but I still got to play it on ps2. Glory days.
The Smiley One First off. 2005 isn’t the original. It’s a remake. Kong Skull Island has better pacing it’s never a slow film, It removes the boring love story plot line, better acting from Samuel Jackson, John Goodman, Tom Hiddleston, John C Reilly, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell. The Skullcrawlers on Skull Island are more creative than the V-Rex. More satisfying ending too with them discovering that there’s more islands with different creatures. Also the film is linked to Godzilla vs Kong which releases soon.

Played the PS2 version years ago and loved it to death. May have to break it out and try it again sometime.
Oh yeah and "TWO MAGAZINE ON BACK UP!"
Wait what? There was an alternative ending?!
Wescudi right wtf? also "With mE jAck!!"

I remember playing this game over and over. Somehow made the "cinematic game" thing work.
This game was so good. One of the few movie based games that was actually spectacular
I’ve played loads of horror games and this obscure little gem is still the scariest game I’ve ever played
I think it's only second to Eternal Darkness, and that's only because that game legit made you think you were insane sometimes (ah the old DELETING SAVE DATA.... DON'T TURN OFF THE CONSOLE low sanity gig still gets me to this day).
I know i’m a year late but yes I agree it was scary especially the first t rex encounter!!!
Maybe that was the problem, the market they shot for was too small.
sad that Mortal Engines was a flop, if it was successful then we would had another great game from Peter Jackson
I remember full page spreads about the game in gaming mags. It didnt sell that well but i think people knew about it if you kept up to date with games
Aww I'm sorry :(

Scarface was awesome

Scarface was a hidden gem, anyone played the godfather games?
Spider-Man 2 being the best of them.
@@mikeoxlong567 yessss, the godfather was sick

Even Halo combat evolved is better than Fallout 76.
hey a lot of people like it now, it's not AS bad as it was.
tho it still isn't great
As a game yes but graphics wise no (its less appealing not just worse technology) if there is one thing 76 does right it graphics

It’s more advanced graphics but still looks mutch worst than games from 2005

I love the art direction of this game. The atmosphere was like all of the best parts of the movie - exciting and terrifying. Brings back the best memories from childhood
Man its so nice to see that i wasn't the only one playing this masterpiece, so many people disagreed with me on this game. Playing as Jack was my favorite, especially when you run into the first V-Rex........most stressful moment ive ever played in any videogame
Luis Gutiérrez Hernández that too honestly lol
I actually played this "back in the day" and i really enjoyed it. It was fun.
I still have PTSD flashbacks of Jack Black screaming "JACK!" So many times in a level
I only watched my friend play this and I have those night terrors
The way ann screamed "KONG" was chilling! The music for this game was epic.
6:50 Scariest mission in the whole game getting chased by those dudes o.o
I fucking hated this mission as a kid.
I barely could finish that on as I often had to just pause and stop playing out of fear as an 7-8 year old hahaha
Yup you really felt the fear of them behind you
That mission was the second scariest, the scariest mission for me is when you meet the T-rex for the second time and you have to distract it to allow Ann to escape :(

I had this on PSP when I was a kid and I thought playing as King Kong was amazing and felt invincible, however playing a human was traumatising, when you're walking through a dark cave and giant prehistoric centipede jumps out and eats ya face and all you've got is a bone spear to protect yourself... well scary
Ay, glad I wasnt the only one who had a PSP and got this game 👌
Had it for gamecube. Fuckin terrifying

I remember when I was young and being scared shitless when you had to sneak through some species of dinosaur

You know a game that no one talks about that you should review? Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure. It was developed by Neversoft and it's basically Tony Hawk but with Disney characters. It has also the worst product placements I've seen in a videogame.
Loved that game, they even made a second one.
I'd recommend checking out radrats' video on that if you haven't. The bit where you have to deliver mcnuggets to people is fucking hilarious
I played that on the Ps2
Another game he should really talk about that's in an EXTREMELY popular series? Call of Duty: Big Red One or Call of Duty: Finest Hour. Probably 99% of COD fans have never played those games. Mostly everyone started with World at War or Modern Warfare.

Remember playing this when I was really young. Was that perfect balance of creepy and exciting. So many memorable lines and moments too. Definitely a lot more atmospheric when playing on an old school television or with sub par video quality. When this game is in HD it loses its charm a little.

I don't know if you know this but there are 2 version of the game.
The 2005 King Kong was a good movie, personally speaking I would say the movie and game are just as good.
Same here, I actually think it did the original justice. It's not perfect but still a great tribute to the movie Jackson admired so much when growing up
God i love the movie , its one long giant amazing ride
Game is better than the movie (and movie is not bad)
It's easily one of my favorite remakes of all time, and as a life long fan of the genre I'd also say it has the best daikaiju score of any film.
It frustrates me to no end we got two really respectful Godzilla films as part of the MonsterVerse and also Skull Island, which is anything but respectful to either franchise.
I absolutely loved it as a 15-year old, however in time I grew to see it as quite flawed if still greatly enjoyable-it's definitely very self-indulgent and the New York intro goes on forever.
Loved the alternate ending where the captain saves King Kong by shooting down all the planes. Indulgent video game extra at its best.
Unfortunately it's not available to buy digitally, you have to pop in a disc to install it onto the drive (a bummer for series s users).

The music, the atmosphere, the the pacing, the action.. it was just nuts for me as a kid when it first came out
I can still hear Adrian Brody saying "I've got to reload" a million times because I wanted to reload when I WANTED to and not when the game felt I should
This game was my childhood, really, on PS2. I remember owning an issue of local gaming magazine (which is a local edition of the UK gaming magazine GamesMaster) having previews of the game before it came out.

Add 2+ hrs of more gameplay
A few more island creatures
Update graphics and dialogue
Update cutscenes
Keep the same immersive environment but add even more elements and randomness to the creatures.
Even better fighting mechanics, make the a.i even more intelligent and clever
The creatures of the island fighting, hunting and killing each other were the highlights for me.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
1. I've played a lot of video games in my 26 years, but this was my favorite childhood video games. Even more than the first Sly Cooper.
2. Probably spent more hours on this than any other game. It's such a straightforward game, but the action is so intense you just can't help but want to play it multiple times.
& 3. Out of all the creatures in this game, the scorpion-looking things scared tf outta me. Still do.

That bit where you play as Kong in NYC looks WAY too similar to that level where you play as Reptar in the Rugrats game for PS1
Search for reptar might be one if the best licensed games I played as a kid. It might not control or play great but it does actually feel like the show, instead of shoving a bunch of generic baddies in there so it can be a standard platformer like the later rugrats games.
