Ive played this game countless times in my childhood and sparked my love of videogames in general. I used to think that videogames were just something I play when I get bored or that they were only surface level whose only goal was earning piints and advancing levels. When the story got to the point where [SPOILERS] ...they got meta and talked about how someday no one will play their game and they’ll be obsolete, my heart broke. That was the moment I realized that I was invested in the characters, their lives, and their fate. Afterwards, I started looking at my videogames differently. Theyve given me so much joy and happiness during my lonely childhood and I never realized just how much I actually loved them. Sorry for the emotions lol this game just gave me a whole new perspective on videogames
That was the first time I played this game and I almost shat myself when I realized there was a full 3D version on consoles, I didn't own any so I was so jealous
It's good on the DS, but the X360 and PS3 versions are simply much better, with more content and better graphics that actually fit the show's style perfectly. Shame we never got a PC version too.
When I was younger, I used to play as Marge and Bart in the Springfield area. I’d gather up as many of the townsfolk with Marge and then try to outrun them as long as possible with Bart. The lack of sound made the approaching crowd so ominous.
@@captainbarbossa5325 It's basically that when I was a very very young kid I watched one of the Halloween episodes (the one that was a parody of Goldilocks where the three bears killed her) and I got so scared of the show I never watched it again until I was a teenager, all thanks to the Simpsons game.

Jonathan Morales I always thought it was weird how the 2D cutscenes from the 360/PS3 version of the game are actually 3D in the DS version; looks a lot like Hit and run actually. (Which is bizarre because the gameplay is in more of a 2D style; so it’s the reverse of the other versions)
The amount of Full Motion Video was impressive, the ingame Graphics were (Really well drawn) 2D Levels with good Spritework. The weird Cutscene Look is probably because the Videos were taken from An early Console version, where the Cutscenes were made ingame before being Reworked as Hand drawn Animation
No, it wasn't because of that, but because the DS has much lower storage space in it's cartridges, so obviously FMVs can't be put there, requiring a change to 3D animations. (Yes, 3D animations cost far less space than videos)
The second you mentioned Will Wright, that when this game threw me for a loop. Like anyone knows super mario bros and Grand Theft Auto, but actually referencing the creator the Sims is genuinely great.

First game I ever played, has more nostalgia to me and I loved every second of it. I’ve played it 20 or 30 times😂 Genuinely my favourite game of all time However I played the wii version where levels were missing and you couldn’t explore the town. Which even though I know it’s worse than other versions, I love it more
I remember getting this game on my xbox360 and spending hours trying to find all of the collectibles and I personally think this game is highly underrated
I remember having quite a bit of fun with this, that last boss must have taken me a couple of days to beat. Ended up playing it again in co-op with my mom
Luckily I played this on PS2 so I felt no disappointment (and I didn't know English so I think I probably skipped all cutscenes) and the game on PS2 doesn't look much worse as far as I'm remembered...
My mom gave this game to me for Christmas several years ago around the time it first came out and I loved every bit of it. It made it more fun when I was rewatching older Simpsons after beating the game and recognizing the references the game made to the show. It was definitely one of my favorite games as a kid/preteen.
this game genuinely was part of my childhood, besides guitar hero, mario kart and the godfather, this is the game i remember playing the most update: after watching the full video I find it funny you mention its on the same engine as the Godfather games, makes me happy knowing its a similar game now, and explains a lot
Your profile pic reminds me of the Futurama game too. I can hardly remember that game. Except the characters had blasters and there was a transition image between cutscenes that read ‘tricurious?’ and had a man, woman & alien in bed together. Weird game lol.
I had hit and run, road rage and the Simpsons game as a kid. I played hit and run a little but got bored fast. The Simpsons game however? I ADORED it. Absolutely wholeheartedly love that game. It's liquid nostalgia for me now. My only complaint for it now is that the controls don't hold up at all and when you're used to an upped sensitivity Xbox one controller, dropping back down to an Xbox 360 with bad controls when I replay it. I genuinely had no clue people didn't like it since it's so loved in my house
I remember playing this game so many times through middle and high school. It's just so much fun and I'd honestly rank it as the second best Simpsons game I've played. I also didn't know it had a hub world cause I only played the PS2 and Wii versions which I don't think had a hub world. I think you might have been able to walk around the Simpson's house, but that was it.
I remember playing this on my psp back in the day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Love the visuals, the simple arcade-y beat up gameplay - it's just one of those games where you play when you're bored or just want to switch your brain off for me. Didn't even realized there are next gen versions until this video.
Not really. The DS version of this game is slow, clunky, and repetitive. It's a great time if you like mindlessly tapping the jump button and occasionally mindlessly tapping the punch button.
I played this one back in the day and I LOVED it! Just makes me want to play it again because there's a bunch of very subtles jokes in the backgrounds. For instance: At the Heaven Stage there's houses with mail boxes where deceased celebrities names written on, meaning those are their houses. And there is one with Paul McCartney name on, referencing the "Paul is Dead" conspiracy theory while there is another one with "Reserved for Elvis Presley" written on referencing the "Elvis is Alive" conspiracy theory. LMFAO
I think a lot of people didn't finish the game...probably saw the first couple stages got bored put it down...they didnt realize how meta and good it was going to continue getting the further you progress....its a game that starts off boring on purpose...
I played the Beat'Em'Up arcade game just the other day, on a real arcade machine in someone's basement. It was way easier when you didn't have to pay any coins.
When I was a youngster, I had the simpsons on the WII, and it instead of having the town as the main hub, it just had their house. From what I've seen, every console has their own variations in the game.
I played this game a few years ago when I was 16 and it amazed me by how much fun it was. It came as such a surprise. For all intents and purposes, it's a fairly average game that wouldntve received much attention if it didnt have the Simpsons characters, writing, and humour, but my god did I have fun with it. It's genuinely one of my top 10 games ever, although I will admit that's I'm biased and it's ultimately a very normal game. Thanks for making this video.
I had the ps3 version and always used to play it with my best friend at that time. The little cutscenes and the story + exploring springfield with Bartman was just soo much fun. Pure nostalgia
Really glad I supported you through Patreon, you're one of my favorite channels now! (My name is Plague on Patreon) I think the first video I watched of yours was the Disney Cars video so I'm pretty new but I've been enjoying the new videos & I've watched a lot of the older ones as well.

This is my second favourite Simpsons game after hit and run and I really loved it even though it was a bit of a slog at times I kept playing it multiple times when I had a ps2.
Mason Abbott if i remember correctly there's also a couple of levels late in the game that also are only on 360/ps3? the ones that use videogame genres i think
@@fiafiaaaa No, the DS version is the one that doesn't have the video game-themed levels (except for the Japanese-themed level and Neverquest which was renamed to "Mythos of Marge")

I find that the DS version stuck a lot with me yet it didn't at the same time. Until recently, I only thought of the game as a good dream. From the gameplay I remember from the past and the gameplay of the Console version in this video, I can see that the DS version is superior in every aspect.
This is the first time I've heard this mentioned since I was in Primary School. Back then most people used it as a flex of having an Xbox 360 or PS3... (Real winners had Hit and Run on the OG Xbox) But honestly so much of that humour looks really solid. So thank for the review. As this honestly impressed me, both in terms of the game, and the actual review. Top job.

I loved the ds game, played it several times. Years later my friend let me play the gane on playstation and man, it wasnt as fun
I'm super biased cause I grew up with the console version, but I bought and 100% finished the DS game, and was kinda disappointed with the short length. I did appreciate the parts of the Matt Groening level that had Life in Hell references though
This was always my favourite Simpsons game, and it upset me that everyone ignored it :(
Ive played this game countless times in my childhood and sparked my love of videogames in general. I used to think that videogames were just something I play when I get bored or that they were only surface level whose only goal was earning piints and advancing levels. When the story got to the point where [SPOILERS]
...they got meta and talked about how someday no one will play their game and they’ll be obsolete, my heart broke.
The DS version was quite different if I remember, I enjoyed it more than the home console version
The ds version was a very fun side scroller.
I ageee
That was the first time I played this game and I almost shat myself when I realized there was a full 3D version on consoles, I didn't own any so I was so jealous
Moose With A Noose same here it was so good
Faaaaaaacts
This game works shockingly well as a 2D platformer instead. I highly recommend the DS port of this game
The DS version legit got me into The Simpsons as a series
Are you like 9 bro? Did you not ever see the TV show before playing the game? I'm actually curious
@@captainbarbossa5325 It's basically that when I was a very very young kid I watched one of the Halloween episodes (the one that was a parody of Goldilocks where the three bears killed her) and I got so scared of the show I never watched it again until I was a teenager, all thanks to the Simpsons game.
@@skapokonroll haha fair enough xD yea that episode where Mr burns is the alien people see wandering around because of his medicine scared me when I was a kid 😂
Skapokon the ds got me into video games.
it was so fun. i remember me and my brother gathering all the simpsons pedestrians around the map, taking them to the teleporter, and then teleporting to the other side of the map. Then we'd see which simpsons character wins the race (ralph was a marathon runner, i swear)
"or when the PlayStation 4 comes out"
My god they predicted the future again with the name of the PS4 Jesus Christ Simpsons

That's like the first thing we recognized about this game.
The Simpsons Game was one of the first games I ever played. So it’s always had a special place in my heart and I still come back to it sometimes.
I suddenly feel very, very old.
Should've put the DS version in your graphically impressive DS games video. I was genuinely impressed with how it looked when I played it back then.
@@TDRR_Gamez
Not in this case. The Cutscenes were FMV, Compressed by Moby Clip (Like in the Professor Layton games)
In that case i have no idea! I was assuming because people said it was in 3D so i thought it was 3D done in-console.
The second you mentioned Will Wright, that when this game threw me for a loop. Like anyone knows super mario bros and Grand Theft Auto, but actually referencing the creator the Sims is genuinely great.
This was THE co-op game to play when my friend came over
So true Mr. Meaty!
The environments in this game are stunningly detailed and true to the show wow
played the shit out of this on my ds and ps2 honestly its really is under appreciated.
edit: yes play the ds version it was quite good with the pet me homer game mode.
I hear the PS2 version doesn't have the overworld Springfield.
@@KeybladeMasterAndy Yeah i thought i missed a lot when i was younger but i guess i didn't.
KeybladeMasterAndy i have no memory of the springfield hub world it was the simpsons house (later into the game i remember the house being pretty cool but not as cool as the whole springfield hub world!)
I played on PS2 as well.
i put more time into that pet homer mini game than i did the actual game tbh
First game I ever played, has more nostalgia to me and I loved every second of it. I’ve played it 20 or 30 times😂
Genuinely my favourite game of all time
However I played the wii version where levels were missing and you couldn’t explore the town. Which even though I know it’s worse than other versions, I love it more
Who else remembers clogging Homer's arteries on the ds version?
Me i got scarred when that happened as a kid i was mortified.
Haha yes
The DS version was godly
I got way too much fun out of giving Homer heart attacks
Zero-Life with a picture of Professor Frink.
Brilliant.
I remember getting this game on my xbox360 and spending hours trying to find all of the collectibles and I personally think this game is highly underrated
Roo is my favorite character on king of fighters.
Good metal slug waifu dude
it actually is pronounced roo though
So glad you made this 🔥

Oh shit it's you
I remember having quite a bit of fun with this, that last boss must have taken me a couple of days to beat.
Ended up playing it again in co-op with my mom
When I was younger, the final boss was too hard for me which caused me to delete my save file about 3 times so I could keep playing the game
If I’m being honest this game disappointed me as a child because I expected Simpson’s hit and run type of gameplay but on “new gen”
Luckily I played this on PS2 so I felt no disappointment (and I didn't know English so I think I probably skipped all cutscenes) and the game on PS2 doesn't look much worse as far as I'm remembered...
@The Angry Angel look up any rare game online, people think rare means overpriced on the internet.
I liked it its slower than hit and run but hit in run was nothing but speed the whole game i liked the parkor and the levels were all unique and fresh
That’s your own fault lol
Same with me, but looking back: The Simpsons Game > Hit & Run. I played first Hit&Run on PC, and later, the other one on PS2
My mom gave this game to me for Christmas several years ago around the time it first came out and I loved every bit of it. It made it more fun when I was rewatching older Simpsons after beating the game and recognizing the references the game made to the show. It was definitely one of my favorite games as a kid/preteen.
this game genuinely was part of my childhood, besides guitar hero, mario kart and the godfather, this is the game i remember playing the most
update: after watching the full video I find it funny you mention its on the same engine as the Godfather games, makes me happy knowing its a similar game now, and explains a lot
Had this on my PSP, it was fantastic and criminally underrated
Psp version is Goated!! Bruh i remember staying up late and hiding my psp under my pillow lol
I could never beat the last level when I was a kid
Same but now its easy
I had to get my parents who are the worst at games to beat god
My little brother beat it before I did. I was so fucking embarrassed.
Same!!! Hahaha

You know someone's old when they still call the 360 next gen

I remember seeing an ad for this game in a magazine. This is the first time I've seen anything about it since then.
This game worked so much better as a 2D platformer, the DS game was literally amazing
Not really. The DS version of this game is slow, clunky, and repetitive. It's a great time if you like mindlessly tapping the jump button and occasionally mindlessly tapping the punch button.
Don't like how in Lisa's impassioned speech near the end she just wears the same blank smile throughout lol
Could you do a video on the other ports of this game? I loved the ds version of this game.
Tim Johnson i still have the ds cartridge laying around somewhere, i hated it haha
You have your own pet homer on the DS game!
Tim Johnson i’ve never seen the DS version and i didn’t even know there was one! i had it on PS2
God, I remember playing this with my sister as kids. We still talk about this game to this day. The nostalgia trip is warm
I literally had flashbacks when I heard the footsteps from running around in the open world hub.
That guy with the sack of money literally has EA Executive on his chest, they knew before WE knew.
I guess they sensed it as EA probably wanted DLC for the game and the developers disapproved of that and took the piss out of it
Mind blown
Simpsons predict the future again!
?? How old are you? EA has been a terrible corporation for over 20 years now.
They weren't bad in the 90s though.
@@BoleDaPole Read what you just said once more, then ask that same question.
LMFAO
I got this game in 08, I was 11. Lmao I wasn't thinking any of this, I loved every minute of it. Brings back heavy nostalgia.
Sweated this game on the ds back in the day 😂
Real ones understand
Fax
Shit was super heat on the ds 👌
I did that once. The problem is, sometimes the sweat gets too deep inside the cartridge and the game won't start again

Oh man I played this on the Wii. I mostly just remember those God hand sections with Lisa using Buddhism. I used to play it after Link Club in primary school and didn't get the references that well, except the Sims ones
I also remember meeting Matt Groening vaguely as well at the end
I finished this on 360 and it remains one of my favorite games to this day. I actually still have it in its box :)
This is my second favourite Simpsons game after hit and run and I really loved it even though it was a bit of a slog at times I kept playing it multiple times when I had a ps2.
You didn't miss out on much on the ps2 version. The 360 and ps3 version had an extremely boring open world
Mason Abbott if i remember correctly there's also a couple of levels late in the game that also are only on 360/ps3? the ones that use videogame genres i think

(Real winners had Hit and Run on the OG Xbox)
But honestly so much of that humour looks really solid. So thank for the review. As this honestly impressed me, both in terms of the game, and the actual review.
Top job.
I loved the DS version of this game. So many memories
I've never watched one episode of the Simpsons before, but holy rip the graphics in this game are nice! They've aged really nicely for a PS3 game!
That's because cel-shaded games or games which don't rely on a realistic style age best.
