Peter Jackson's King Kong is an action-adventure video game developed and published by Ubisoft, based on the 2005 film King Kong. The game was created in collaboration between the film's director Peter Jackson, and game designer Michel Ancel.
The game allows players to play as both Jack Driscoll and King Kong. The King Kong segments are played from a third-person perspective, while human levels are played from a first-person perspective. The game de-emphasizes the role of a heads-up display, with the developers explaining that this conceivably would help players to get further immersed into the game.
It was released on PC and sixth generation platforms and a Nintendo DS version on November 21, 2005, while it was released on November 22, 2005 on the Xbox 360 as a launch title, as well as a Game Boy Advance version titled Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World; also, a PlayStation Portable version was released December 20, 2005. The film's cast members reprise their roles.
Upon release, the game received critical acclaim, with critics praising the game's immersive environments, action sequences and ability to switch through two protagonists throughout the game. However, the DS version was panned due to the bugs featured in these versions. The PSP version received a mixed reception due to the shorter length and parts cut out from the console and PC versions - Ігри
Merry Christmas, Sonny Jims! Thanks again to Raycevik for helping me get this thing running on Windows 7. Be sure to check out his channel and show him some love, he also did a really cool video on this game!

Hey Gggman, just today have I heard about your stuff, and you got an instant sub from me. :D
Also, if you'd allow it, I woulkd heavily reccomend another videogame based on a movie:
*Van Hellsing*
The Hugh Jackman movie is not a good movie by all means, but it is fun, and it has fun with itself, the game is no different, and has borrowed heavily from Devil May Cry, whilst implementing a lot of cool level design, and focusing on more interesting ranged combat, even if spammier.
They have a TON of secrets and challenges, and even skins as rewards. Give it a chance and you won't regret it ;)
Others might have told you but rage mode was done on counsels by tapping a button repeatedly.
Hey dude are you gonna do the hitman series?
Don’t forget it was also on the GameCube, which I think had the best look. I mean the shotgun looked like a shotgun!
Bro, can you please put the year the game was released in the video titles? I'm looking for games for my very old pc and this would help. plus, release year is nice bit of important info
This was a damn horror game as a kid
Seriously, the sound was so amazing that the dinosaur scared me when I was little and hesitated to push forward.
@@-AceItX-
Seriously. Fuck those giant bugs.
The brontosaurus herd stage always scared me as a kid. Jack's forced to run to the other end of a canyon, light a torch, and juggle it all the way back without a gun whilst a pack of raptors trail him.
ikr, i fckn hate all of the bugs & centipede in this game
I remember being afraid of this game but I was also terrified of FEAR in 2007 when I was trying to find something fun to play in the 2007 PS3 drought
You're welcome.
Loved your Andromeda video. Great work I appreciate it
Yooo
You will never be on the level of GVMERS
@@aGamblingGoose What does that have to do with anything mate?
Great job
I remember a small detail that I think is pretty cool. Jack whispers the number of bullets left during the quiet parts and yells if you check your ammo during a gunfight.
This game is a movie game too. This is right up there with the Path of Neo in terms of great movie games
@@lightingthief4482 there's also the warriors that followed before and during the movie events
@@rhysoneill7399 I'm not sure I would classify Battlefront I and II (at least, the original LucasArts/Pandemic Studios ones) nor the Riddick games as 'tie ins' in the same sense as the others. They were a little more independent of movie plots and worked more as franchise works, kind of like how Arkham Asylum released after The Dark Knight but wasn't really as tied to it. Butcher Bay was released to tie into Chronicles of Riddick, release window wise, but Dark Athena was more to capatilise on the success of the game and further explore the character.
@@rhysoneill7399 LOTE BFME is one of the best movie games. Helms deep siege and Minas Tirith are some of the best and most fun spectacle missions in any RTS ever.
"AAH I'M DRY!"
"Nothing Left!"
That's what I remember.
“All DRY “
Hearing that while your stuck in a crevice while you watch a venatosaurus eye you down , blocking your only exit , knowing you have to run for it was peak horror as a kid
This was a launch title for the Xbox 360 wasn't it? But the sole reason I bothered it was because you could get 1000 achievement points for simply finishing the game.
Larry Bundy Jr fancy seeing you here
Indeed it was! And I didn't realize this until you mentioned it: The XBOX didn't do gangbusters, so I'm sure that the idea of releasing this as a console exclusive probably would have been seen as a HUGE gamble.
*Hello you* .
Larry Bundy Jr that’s why I played, helped me get to 100k.
I loved this game on the Xbox 360.
Back in those days i did not care that much about achievments but now im a huge troohy hunter so i really wish they could release this game on the PS4 both because its an awesome game i would like to play again and also because i would love to get all the trophies for it and add it to my trophy list.
This game seems very impressive - not just for a movie-based game, but also for a game released in 2005.
Believe me: it is. It’s definitely aged, but not poorly. Even to this day, I love breaking out my PS2 and playing this.
@@dudewhy6953play it on pc goddamnit
Those V-Rex levels as Jack were bloody terrifying.
I love this game. I was impressed that they managed to do it all with no hud. I thought at the time that this removal of the hud would be the future of video games, but now most of them have so much clutter on screen that it makes them look like social media apps.
Omg yes the first time I finished the game when I was 8 or 9 years old I had no hud and the game was really immersive, so immersive that I got legitimately scared at times then I discovered you could put the hud and an aim therefore it's not the same thing. This really needs a remaster omg imagine this game with todays graphics.
Yeah, I think playing this game as a kid is the reason why I turn off crosshairs when possible in modern shooters. Often in such games you can turn off minimap, health, objective hud, etc but it's a shame that doing so makes you realise how crippled the game is in telling you where to go. As gggman says it's the hand crafted feel of this game, great level design and interesting set pieces that makes the minimal hud work and actually feel immersive, as opposed to an afterthought.
Bro I never heard anyone put it like that, haha sad to say that is true and you're right it gets annoying sometimes good thing a lot of games let you turn it off.
I remember being pleasantly surprised by this game. it sounds like an idea destined to fail, but it turned out to be a solid rental, back in the day..
I miss those days. There isnt a single DVD/BluRay/gaming rental place near me anymore, which is sad. I used to rent a game normally every weekend back in the day
Me too. Redbox is ok, but less than half the games I'd like to rent ever make it there :/

I still have that on my PS2, good game :D

Same PS2 childhood games battlefront 1 and 2 king Kong GTA San Andreas Timesplitters I even had a WWF game on PS1 which I only liked for listening to DX and Scotty too hottys entrances hahaha.
I wouldn't mind a future Far Cry game having this theme, the whole "lost world" concept is severely neglected in gaming, I can only think of Where Time Stood Still being another off the top of my head.
Far cry jurrassic edition........I still remember the cassowarys and how they were almost like the raptors from Jurrassic park...
much better idea than far cry new dawn
We almost got that after Far Cry 4, but everyone wanted some Cenzoic caveman bullshit instead.
Farcry Primal?
Great idea just replace Far Cry and Ubisoft with any other IP and any other studio. Then we might get a game worth playing.
Had this game on my PS2 back in 2005. My uncle who was a gamer got it for me and my older brother. Though he got us the collectors edition, which came in a brass case and had not only the game, but also a making-of documentary with interviews from Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Michael Ancel. Thanks to that DVD, it introduced me to another Ubisoft game; Beyond Good & Evil, which is one of my favourite games of all time.
For me it was better than Turok 2008.
The fanboys are going to crucify you
Almost anything is better
They were both great
It easily was
Turok 2008 is a fuckin insult to the entire series!!
and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil was easily one of the best ego-shooters of its time!
The giant V-rex always cranked my anxiety levels, turning around to see his jaws wide open slowly creeping up on you is horrifying. Waiting for Ann to open the door in that one level is so well done. 😱
Also, nice detail was him drooling over thought of him catching you in his jaws. Scary times. My backs hurt whenever I played levels with Jack and trying to run away from it.
Back in day, i almost thought this game like open world . Because of the graphics looks really amazing.
what the fuck?
what do graphics have to do to a game being open world or not?
@@isteall8140 dude he's saying because of how the game looked, the scenes you were put in, and because he was young..

For the love of god don't install this game on the PC, just get an emulator and play it with a controller. The DRM software which this game uses, StarForce, will completely corrupt all data on your computer and make any recovery impossible. The Gamer's Edition runs fine, but good luck finding that one legally.
thanks for the warning, I hate that crap, it stops me from playing some old games
Starforce, now that I haven't heard of for a long time. I remember that being a complete twat when running Riddick.
What are you emulator are you using?
The pirate cracked version on PC works fine for the most part
@Taiga
A bit of a strange exaggeration I would say. Surely, Starforce can be categorized as malware by some but there are workarounds. Just use this for example:
www.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_king_kong.shtml
Either way, when I encountered it, the only thing that happened was that the Bootmgr was corrupted and generating a new one fixed it.
@DarXide
Any PS2-emulator works but I would use Dolphin emulator and play the GameCube game. You can download the .iso from romsmania.cc

I remember my dad buying me a copy of King Kong for the OG Xbox. I found the game surprising good with pretty solid graphics.
Oh yes the OG Xbox, the version I played as well.
Actually it never did come out for the PlayStation 3
That's not true
@@dalhar20 It is.
@@dalhar20 If you played it on PS3 then you were playing the PS2 game on one of the earliest models.
Which was unfortunate, early on the PS3's life cycle could've used all the games it could get, really was a barren period for like 3 years before it got it's second breath and imo surpassed the xb360's library in quality
@@chillhour6155 Blame it on Sony. They wanted the hardware as foreign as possible so devs would be forced to only port it to their system and don't have the resource to port it other rival consoles. Yeah sounds stupid but thats why the CELL happened.
How am I supposed to play a game if it doesn't have a semen meter? It gets a big 0/10 for me, dawg.
What?
Fool's Requiem what?
I think he means ammo counter UI.
Big fat r/whooosh to anyone who didn't get the Seed of the Dead reference.
Shut up
What i thought was pretty cool playing as Kong is when he takes damage and a beating from the enemies and to the point the screen is red close to death you have Kong pound his chest and roars healing himself as if he just took an adrenaline shot which never got old.
The part where you had to distract a t-rex and lure it towards you while others were slowly opening a door was the most terrifying thing in my childhood.
PSA: if you are going to try and run this game on a modern PC, make sure it's not the collector's edition that came in a golden steelbook. That one came with intrusive DRM that can brick a Windows 7, 8 and 10 machine, forcing a system restore or even reformat. Some say the standard edition is fine, though other confirm it still has the same DRM, so i still wouldn't risk it.
Hope this saves someone some grief.
Starforce was a real son of a bitch back then in 05'
Actually, all copies except the OEM-supplied or downloaded Gamer's Edition all have StarForce.
@@solarstrike33 that's also what i think. I met a guy who swears up and down that he installed the standard edition no problem on a Win 10 machine, but he probably got lucky.
so the GE or Gamer's Edition is the one to go one pc? right (i downloaded four diferent ones, only one of em im certain thats the ge because its says on the file. but i think all the other are already cracked. so im probably fine anyway) dont wanna fuck up my computer !
@@muchamore321 My advice is to avoid installing any game that at any point came with starforce or securom, unless you make a Windows XP partition or even better, build a retro PC. Windows 7 and onwards are simply not designed for backwards compatibility, it's evident the thought didn't even cross their minds.
Just buy a shitty $150 office pre-assembled PC, wipe the HDD and install Win XP SP2 on it: even with integrated chipsets it'll be more than enough powerful to run any mid-2000s games that never made it to Steam or GOG.
Ah I remember playing this in 2008 on the 360. So much nostalgia
I tried installing this on my computer about half a year ago. It broke everything and I had to wipe my SSD and reinstall windows. It really is a shame, I have great childhood memories playing this with my friend on my old PS2 and X360
You honestly need to pirate it. The original game comes with bad DRM.
Yeah the cracked version is the one that works on PC

Far from a turok game king Kong as a thing was around far longer than turok was even a thought and probably older than the devs of turok. But I agree turok 2008 was an abomination I sadly bought played and lost brain cells over I'd say anything better than that heap.

Love your work! Thank you!
I just played through this game! Literally just finished it just a few days ago, just started watching you too! So weird, great video couldnt agree more
Love this game so much, and on ps2 was one of my first games, then a lot of years after I decided to also buy it on Xbox360 because of the updated grapchics.
If this game had more attention to detail.
A little more variety on some creatures (black centipedes are criminally underused example) by having a few more variants.
Some better animations (juvenile V.rex example, because of using Venatosaurus animations they look weird and a bit "broken" sometimes, especially when eating).
At least 1 more city level,
A bit more complex Kong levels.
Keeping some of the cut content in, like enemy models, soundtracks, levels and scenes.
With those improvements this game could have been good as it deserved to.
I didn't remember the fauna attacking and eating each other like this.
But their response to getting his and the direct reaction is so damn satisfying.
The way everything feels so organic and alive is what I love about this game and the lack of a HUD actually makes this great. You feel helpless and weak when you have to kind of guess your trajectory but it never feels like you missed because of bullshit.
The only thing I actually don't like is playing as King Kong ironically.
The whole island of giant bugs and beasts trying to kill you in this large and disgusting environment is already an awesome experience. King Kong just felt like a linear modern Uncharted or Assassin's Creed climbing thing with a bit of button mashing. There was nothing really interesting or special done with it besides feeling like an excuse to have it as the final level so you can't complain that it comes out of nowhere.
Kind of like how my favorite and most memorable part of the movie is either the rampaging dinosaurs like Lion King or when they fall into the ravine and fight some of the most disgusting vile things i've ever seen outside of a horror movie. Just wished the movie had some mroe of those thing in the rest rather than just being gone through the entire island and tribes.
Like how I wanted less playing of Kong and more as Jack and the epic scenes with the T-Rex and beasts.
Sadly it's not on Steam and since it's a 3D game you can't download it for free or easily like Dos games or C&C so besides GOG or torrent I have no idea how to get this game unless you have the original CD.
Thank you very much for giving us this gift. I was looking forward for that to happen someday.

Muh Childhood!
but seriously though, i need to point out your playing the crappy version of the game (The "next GEN" version) with its bad graphics, the original Xbox (or GameCube) version is sooo much better, graphics and even game play wise (they have cool loading screen cut scenes, quicker loading time even, textures dont look out of place with the somehow lower polygon, models dont look like King Kongs actual shit, and just overall everything looks more in place then a rushed out "Next Gen" version). Its great you finally got to reviewing this game, but it would've been better you used gameplay from the older consoles (and PC version has some....consequences I heard) but still, great review!

RavenBoy99 this comment is confusing to me. I’ve seen side by side shots of the PS2/Xbox/GC versions to the Xbox 360 version and it was obvious that the 360 version looked the best. How is it that the version on newer hardware looked worse?
