I was never interested in Souls Games but Elden Ring is so fun! I'm afraid of literally everything, but I just killed a giant, ON MY OWN. Maybe that doesn't sound like a big accomplishment, but I went from dying to a sheep, to killing a giant. I texted my boyfriend all excited for the accomplishment he made on day 3 of playing the game because I was so proud of myself. I finally powered myself up and can deal damage, and have health, and now I'm ready to get out there in the game and be terrified of everything some more.
That's awesome! You got this! Also, hopefully you do check out the other Dark Souls games because while they may seem daunting without an open world like Elden Ring's, they're still very approachable and good! Happy gaming!
That’s all that matters. Take your time no need to rush. I’m pretty experienced and I’m still only at the mid way point because I’ve been exploring every nook and cranny.
Yes! That feeling of accomplishment, of overcoming what seemed impossible, is EXACTLY what makes Fromsoft games so great! Good luck on the rest of your adventure!
Congrats! I can totally relate. This is also my first Souls-like game and I was terrified of everything starting out. It took several attempts to kill my first Stormgate troll, but what a thrill it was to finally beat it!
Elden ring has the perfect approach to difficulty. From’s vision for their games has always been that the player needs to use their wits and skills to overcome the challenges in the game. Rather than adding a menu option that just decreases a bunch of sliders so you don’t have to think about what you’re doing anymore, the process of making the game “easier” is itself still an active process. If you want the game to be easier you can make it easier, but making it easier still requires player investment to determine where they should go next, should they farm, are there spells/builds that increase their chances, are their weapon/spirit upgrades they can apply, etc. FS found a way to make “accessible” difficulty that supports their vision rather than contradicting it.
I've been a Souls fan for years, and I absolutely love how they handled the difficulty in Elden Ring. Is a dungeon or boss too difficult? Just go somewhere else. Sooner or later you'll either run into the exact weapon, spell or Spirit Ashes you need to turn the tide, more upgrade materials for better damage, more Sacred Tears and Golden Seeds for more survivability, or you can simply grind until you're strong enough to have the advantage. This is something that is only made possible through the open world of the game.
Hence the advice that, if taken literally, is the answer to many of the problems people have it's just the delivery that.... Rubs them the wrong way? Git gud.
I can contest to this. Tried Bloodborne thinking I'd play it a while then get too frustrated to try and beat it...Now I own every Fromsoftware game and have truly fallen down the soulsborne rabbit hole
Watching Shelby play elden ring gave me huge inspiration to play myself!! As someone who has never played any souls games, but was obsessed when I watched my bf play Bloodborne, I knew that Elden Ring was going to be a really magical experience for a baby gamer like me hahaha Shelby’s excitement over the smaller bosses really excited me even more to play. and now I gotta say my bf and I COMPLETELY relate with this video!!!! 😂 Thank you guys for always making my favourite content on youtube!
The smaller bosses are legit easy tho. They're good for beginners who want to get a feel for the game. You'll beat them easily in 2-3 tries. It's the second half of the game where it gets harder. Even the first few main bosses aren't difficult if you use the right weapons. You cannot use same strat and expect different results that's all
@@Artaxerxes. Doesn’t mean it isn’t exciting for people who have never played the games before, or that it’s necessarily super easy for everyone! That’s what makes this game exciting for a lot more people, the experience of realizing they’re able to play a game in a series that has a reputation for being difficult. Let people be excited and proud of themselves! No need to take away from that.
This was my first souls game, too and bf has also never played a souls game so he has been no help to me 😂😂. It’s not so intimidating once you get the hang of it.
I've been periodically placing my summon sign down in places I keep seeing people online struggle greatly with, and the satisfaction of helping other people, who might have been bashing their heads against the wall for hours trying to fell the boss or complete the legacy dungeon/cave/catacombs in question is phenomenal. Help your fellow Tarnished, and don't you DARE go hollow!
Makes you wonder. How long, did that stranger, sit there and wait to get called, when you think of times people helping you. You never grasp it until you sit there with your sign waiting as well. Especially in older games with less players 😅
This might be their best review yet. Funny how in the beggining Mat was only this mythical editor behind the scenes and now he's great at voicing videos too.
One of the most interesting outcomes of Elden Ring that I've seen is how it's emboldened players who never played any other From Software Soulsbourne games to go back and try them. I've seen a TON of people checking out Sekiro and Dark Souls 3 in particular and are actually holding their own because they were able to slowly get accustomed to the game play style in Elden Ring and were able to transfer many of those skills to the other games.
I had tried DS1 before and didn't think it was my kind of game. But seeing all the gameplay in Eldenring made me go back to giving it one more try and surprisingly I started loving it. Now I am going to finish all 3 dark souls before I try Eldenring.
I tried DS3 and it just didn't click, but I've been having such a good time with Elden Ring, I'm planning on picking up Sekiro and/or Bloodborne when I've finished it.
My dad finally decided to try a Fromsoft game with Elden Ring. I was terrified he was going to get frustrated and stop, but I didn't have to worry. He was really struggling when he first played, but just two days ago he beat Margit within like 10 tries. It makes me proud and happy that I know he will be able to experience the rest of the game. Imo if you can beat Margit, that means you can probably beat the game.
I personally struggled through the end game even as a souls vet, but I think there are plenty of opportunities to make that part of the game way easier if you really explore!
@@Jake_Godsil_Music yeah the endgame was tough at some points, but I’ve beaten the game twice now so I’m on standby for a summon if he can’t beat a boss. Good news is he beat Godrick today👍🏼
Got to remember us old people grew up with arcades that were designed to eat your quarters. Well that is if your dad was a gamer in the 80s and early 90s. Games on Nes/Snes era tended to want to dick kick you
@@mattroxursoul Fr my dad can barely hold a modern controller and the only modern(ish) games he played were Resident Evil 4 and 5 (so he loves tank controls lmao). I've beaten all the souls games but as soon as we play pac-man or something of that nature he wipes the floor with my ass
I've played every FromSoft game since Demon's Souls on PS3, and for as long as I've known her, my wife has had zero interest in these games... until Bloodborne came along and the combo of cosmic horror/agile combat/spooky werewolves pulled her in. Then Sekiro came out and she instantly surpassed me as a balls-out parrying grandmaster. It's her Game of the Generation. Now we're both playing Elden Ring and she's a dual-Moonveil-wielding lunatic with a lower death count than mine. I've never been prouder to be her husband. Shelby, you honor us all.
All I can say to that is glad to see another souls stan, and death count doesn’t matter lol. I literally die just trying the DUMBEST shit. I’ll chuck myself off a roof if I think it has an area to loot lol.
Love how they learn and grow with each other. Matt's narrating developed from a monotonesque, stoic dubbing to an emotional rollercoaster with tons of nuances & inflections very similar to Shelby's.
My gf got it for herself and has been loving it. Her first souls game and with minimal instruction/advice shes killing it. Killed Godrick on her own, no summons. Pretty hyped for her, dunno if she’ll want to play any of the older ones though
Another great review. I was cry-laughing at the end of the video. Matt's "I'm the real gamer" trying to show off his sweet gamer skills until he admitted that he couldn't defeat the tree sentinel was hilarious. Also loved when he said "Now sweetie, was it a boss with a cutscene though?" LOOOOL
it's an ancient art that came long before the cell phone...long before the internet..a gift from the gods themselves they say... they call it a sense of humor.
Hey, you can do them too. I know it sounds unbelievable. But that is EXACTLY what I thought before I, too, beat them myself. And beating Dark Souls not only changed me as a gamer but it helped me as a person. And it was super fun! Just try a couple of different approaches and try a couple of different games. I only understood how to beat Dark Souls because I tried and failed at Bloodborne. Pick whichever one looks the most interesting too you and give it a go! But if you are having trouble I would suggest you try Bloodborne. It sort of teaches people about the "secret" fun way to play these games. Also, they are very cryptic and have almost no environmental music so don't be afraid to seek out info and help, play with friends, or play while you listen to music, audiobooks, or UA-cam. Seriously, the games seem hard because they are. But, they are ALSO fair..... Most of the time. I truly believe anybody who really wants to is totally capable of beating any ans all of these games. So, good luck out there! We believe in you too!
With the exception of Sekiro imo, the souls series have always been accessible enough to where the average gamer should be able to complete them. This one especially so, please try it out and play it, it’s a phenomenal game with tons of different ways to play to help anybody complete it. Will you still die? Of course, but you will overcome
It's so fun watching my girlfriend kick ass on her first playthrough of a souls game. I have so much more hype for her when she beats a tough boss for the first time, but she can also empathize with me when I get pissed going up against one of the bs pos dickhead bosses in the game while I'm under leveled and too stubborn to do anything about it lol
All Souls games have little "easy modes" in the gameplay except maybe Sekiro. It's just that Elden Ring makes finding those modes feel less like resorting to dark magic out of desperation and more like natural progression, thanks to the open world. I feel like most people who were put off by Dark Souls or Bloodborne could easily go back after playing Elden Ring and realise it was more mindset than the game itself that got in their way.
@@ed5015_0 That's the normal mode, there's no easy mode xD Sekiro is deeply unforgiving which I loved for myself but I regret its lack of accessibility for others.
@@Arkayjiya I don't understand where all this Sekiro is the hardest game stuff is coming from, I beat Sekiro in less than 30 hours with little difficulty. I have 107 in Elden Ring and die so much it's not even a joke. Spent way too long fighting Godrick since I didn't run towards him in phase two. Failed attempting a magic build which just ended up really underwhelming. I felt Sekiro was way easier because once you learn the parry timing you just parry and dodge when necessary. In elden ring I can't get a single attack in on some enemies.
Every Souls game with Sorcery has an easy mode. However It was poorly implemented. As the game doesnt tell you how sorceries work or how to make enchanted weapons and to call for help you need to expose yourself for invasions. Still, those make a WORLD of diference.
My husband is a souls veteran. Played and beat all the souls game multiple times. I told him I wanted to play elden ring too. and hes been carrying me ever since lmao
It's awesome to see so many people getting into souls games they're some of the best ever made. I only got into them myself a few years ago with dark souls 3 and Bloodborne
@@Matterhorn3808 Same. I started with Bloodborne when my country went into lockdown 2 years ago. And have ever since played all fromsoft games except Demon's Souls (bcuz it's not on ps4) and souls-likes from other developers. I used to avoid souls games because I thought I wouldn't enjoy getting my ass beaten and repeating the same level again and again. I still don't, but fromsoft implemented a great system that makes dying feel like part of the experience, so it doesn't take me out of the immersion when I die like I would in most other games.
Lol, Matt insisting on wanting to kill the tree sentinel is just classic Matt. Despite the boss literally being designed to teach you to just "walk away" because you can! And hours of suffering later as he finally stands victorious, he would still say "worth it!" lol.
I love the tree sentinel cuz for the the very beginning of the game they're teaching you: 1) somethings you shouldn't mess with till later. 2) it's ok to walk/run away from a fight 3) you can beat anything if your leveled, determined/stubborn, or cleaver enough.
My wife has never played a From Software game and she’s watched me play Sekiro, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 1 + 3, and Demon Souls on PS5 and had no interest. She then seen me playing Elden Ring and said she liked the look of it so I bought her it for her x Box Series X and she has pretty much taken over the tv. This video is so accurate of the last week in our house watching her play it it’s hilarious.
@@NickHunter the growth of the souls series has been insane, from being a niche PS3 exclusive that barely got published out of Japan to one of the biggest releases of the year
As a girlfriend playing this type of game for the first time this is 100% how it is 😂😂😂😂 I've co-opd every boss until the capital. I'm not scared anymore I'm tough and powerful 😈
its funny . i did the oppisite i was soloing or well trying to solo everything but once i got passed the capital. half of my bosses i used co-op like im not abotu to not use a mechanic they added. i paid my dues finishing other souls games you best beleive ima take it chill this time around XD
This channel has quickly and easily become my all time favourite on UA-cam, and seeing how far both of you have come has me equally excited for both the girlfriend and boyfriend reviews. All the best to you both, godspeed.
@@zerotactix5739 I think they're just referring to the fact that in the beginning their roles were set; Matt was the gamer and Shelby was the narrator. But now Shelby is playing and beating games that are specifically designed to weed out the "noobs" while Matt is narrating and providing the comedic relief, and yet despite this role reversal they're still - as you put it - putting out straight "QUALITY". In that sense, they've "come a long way" to be this good outside of their usual comfort zones. But I do agree with you that these guys have been nothing but outstanding since their first video.
I love the fact Shelby wanted to play and even moreso that Matt took the backseat for this one but I also can't wait for his review aswell! Such a great game and an awesome point on the contextual difficulty and the "gatekeeping bosses" from the other titles, so glad everyone is enjoying this game and hope it leads to them seeking out From's next adventure and even the games prior.
I’m so very thankful for the day I stumbled across this channel (praise the yt algorithm gods for they have blessed me). It has been and incredible rollercoaster with no end in sight. Just when you think you have reached peak performance, your next outing just blows the previous away. Amazing work guys.
Elden Ring is a weirdly good couple game, in my experience! I’ve lost count of the number of times my partner has texted something like “oh man you’ll never guess what I just found!” Also, I found a really cool INT/DEX weapon that wouldn’t fit my STR/FAI build, but was absolutely perfect for my partner! It was absolutely joyous telling them “go to the ruins on the border of Limgrave and Caelid, bring a stone sword key” and then ten minutes later getting the response of “SLEEP SWORD LETS GO”
I’m glad Elden ring has shown people that from games are perfectly beatable. To be fair, they ALL give you options to make the games easier, the difference with ER is that ER has more options and the world is bigger so there’s more places to explore and see if you hit a wall
u cam farm for souls and blood on other fromsoft games to make it easy, the exception is sekiro where u need to fight bosses all over again to attain than zen level muscle memory specially the final bosses
Also Elden Ring seems way more easier because you can engage difficult enemies at your own pace like what Matt said here. If you don't wanna fight a giant boss (that isn't a cutscene boss I bet, you can nope outta there or just completely ignore it and continue playing the game by exploring a different part of the world. Whereas in previous games, there is a defined path. Elden ring brings the breath of the wild formula to dark souls and it's one of the best decisions they've made. And it attracts people like me who were never really fans of their previous games. Open world sandbox games are just more accessible.
Its nice to know for sure but it doesn't solve the issue of games being released even in 2022 with minimal accessibility support. The game doesn't need to be made easier. It needs custom options so disabled gamers like my self can actually play. Just look at LoU2's accessibility options. I'm not joking when I say a one armed blind person with brain damage can play that game. It's so inclusive. From software are one of the biggest offenders when it comes to pushing aside disabled gamers. It's not about being a noob or getting gud it's about allowing people with reduced motor functions and other disabilities to play. It's a win win win really promoting accessibility give the studio a good look, they make more money, and more people can play..
This is hilariously accurate. I'm definitely into games as much as my BF, but he has always been WAY better at Souls games than me, such as Sekiro. When I was released into the Lands Between, I was spooked by every little thing at first! 🤣 I barely wanted to leave the starting area which had spooky things. But then, I explored and found my way all over the map. I felt more confident, but I still snuck in every place I couldn't use Torrent. 😅 We have our own copies which help a lot, so we're always like "WHERE'D YOU GET THAT?!"
Never played a Souls Game. But the day Elden Ring was released, I immediatelly bought a copy for my boyfriend, because I knew he will love it but secretly I wanted it myself. Needless to say I bought my copy a few days later, as a non soul girl gamer, and it is soooooo wonderful. I seriously think I can never play through a Souls game, but Elden Ring.
Souls games are amazing, in some ways better than Elden Ring. DS3 has better bosses than Elden Ring and is way more reasonable soloing bosses instead of using cheap summons. Don’t write the rest of the series off.
What?! If you liked Elden Ring you'll like the Souls games. Demons Souls is the easiest by far, Dark Souls has amazing level design, Bloodborne is just so sick, Dark Souls 3 is such an incredible follow up to the first. I've personally never tried 2 and got a few bosses into Sekiro before deciding I wasn't ready. The games play so similarly that you really can just jump into one and know exactly how to play and they are all great fun in different and rewarding ways
5:38. Oh my god. I am convinced you two have seen literally every movie and show, and have every clip stored in high speed RAM in your brain, so you always have the perfect clip for any scenario ready to go!
"Embraces the noob community... And Kotaku" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That one had me on the floor Matt dropped so much gems in this video, I feel like he needs to do a "Boyfriend Roasts" Episode😂😂
I’m a maidenless maiden who could play Bloodborne and DS3 with my eyes closed but still went to bosses in this game going “hahaha buff hawk go BRRRRRRRRR” and then “hahaha mimic go BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR”. And knowing I am no less a Soulsborne fan because of it. Edit: Although I will say the majority of the end game bosses feel like they were tuned with spirit ashes in mind and feel pretty bad.
I was hesitant to watch the video because I didn't want to get spoilerd but you really made a top tier content review without really going past the first story boss. Respect.
Elden ring is great cuz it takes what's always been in souls games and amps them up. Wizard, faith, and ranged builds have always existed, but now they're stronger and more accessible. Summoning NPCs and online help has always been an option to make bosses/areas easier. But now summons are easier than ever to use and much more useful. You could always explore and get find stuff that will help you. But now exploration is more rewarded than ever. With soo many ways to approach the game, soo many viable builds, and soo many options for where to go and what to do Elden ring is the ultimate souls game.
I have always played a heavy weapon build in souls games and never really touching magic. But Elden Ring got me to dabble in magic, though still just as a support tool/special attack. I'm loving the weapon arts and summons. Finally I have something to use my FP for.
Ok I’ve loved this UA-cam channel for years. Y’all’s video bring a smile to my face. So obviously when I saw this video I clicked😊 I’m a physical disabled gamer. And Elden Ring is my first Dark souls game. I love that the developers made Elden Ring more accessible. I love the game even if I’m almost level 50 and haven’t beat Margit. Just because he ran me off a cliff 😂 and i cheesed the tree sentinel😂 by standing on a platform and using spells 😂 and dying a thousand times in the process.
It's not cheese if it works. Ranged play styles are in the game for a reason. Use them. That's the best part about souls games. They offer tons of viable playstyles. Use the one that works best for you.
4:22 The jellyfish's name is Aurelia! And she's wonderful! 😁 I've seen on the Steam forums people complaining about things like Spirit Ashes, saying that it's not the way the game was "meant to be played," that they make the game too easy. It's a ridiculous thing to say on so many levels. It's a game mechanic, advertised and actively provided to the player. It's as much the way the game is meant to be played as is taking on the game solo as a level 1 Wretch. No one is forced to use all the tools available or to build one's character along a particular path. The challenge can be whatever the player chooses to take on. The other thing is that it's primarily a single-player game, so how a player manages to beat it is of no consequence to anyone else. It may not be terribly impressive, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. That said, I agree with the sentiment that not every game need be accessible to everyone. Some games cater to a different crowd, whether it be in difficulty or subject matter. There are those who might find Elden Ring's gameplay to their liking, but not the setting and story. Difficulty (or lack thereof) is merely one part of a game's experience. Accessibility is not the be all and end all, except insofar as a developer wants to maximise their player base and the revenue they pull in. Not everyone's concerned with that, though. Some developers have a particular vision for a game and the only obligations they have is to satisfy their vision and to satisfy those who funded the game's development.
I have loved to watch you guys evolve over your careers. You have grown so much over the years, and its so cool to see both of you branching out to the point that you switch jobs. Next thing you know, Shelby will be the one editing. So cool.
"You can parry with L2... Are you serious?! I didn't know there was even a button back here!". People on the bus home from work be wondering why that's even funny. My girl also beat Margit with a jellyfish on her hundredth try and I've never been so proud of that little jellyfish hard carrying her
Me before playing: “I won’t use NPC summons, I don’t need to” Me while playing: “C’mon Blaidd let’s gooooooo!” (It’s less about challenge and more about fighting along side the cool people I’ve met)
I was eating breakfast while watching this and 1:10 had me choking on my waffles. My boyfriend actually came over to ask me if I was ok because I was laughing so hard I was crying a bit during this video.🤣
I beat every Souls game multiple times, mostly because I like to play through the game using “easier” options at first and then graduate to soloing every boss in counterintuitive ways in a second playthrough. There is no shame in what Shelby’s doing. It reminds me of what I did on my first ever playthrough of a Souls game. My bet is she’ll fall in love with the game so much that she’ll end up wanting to play the “hard” way on a subsequent playthrough just to get the same rush. So happy she’s finally been assimilated to FromSoft world.
is it an easy mode when they added it into the game? spirits die pretty quickly if it istna tanky mimic or lvl10 tiche. and mgic users get one shoit if they take to long to use there spells. the game is still hard at its core regardless on the path. i feel its only "easier" to soul players because they have the memory new players dont ahve that hence why it took her 100 tries even with a sppirit
that's the great and addictive thing about souls games. what ever your build you see other cool stuff you could be using and it makes you want to try that. Usually on another play through.
2 Things, I use spirit summons cause I am playing a summoner class. So take that. Second thing. During the ad read, best animal crossing background music in New horizon. Glad to hear it.
I don't know how many times I have rewatched this pair of Elden Ring videos. Probably my favorite videos you've ever done. Both hilarious and impactful.
Hey! I just finished a friendly Elden Ring pvp duel match with my friends, it’s amazing! I literally feel my hand shaking because of the thrill from the duel. This game is bring people together! 10/10 masterpiece!
5 minutes since posting crew, where you at? Saw thumb view with the reversed meme and just know it's gonna be good. After watch edit: was right. And we are all very proud of Shelby. No gatekeeping from us. I have mentioned it before long ago, but seeing her growth from spectator to becoming a gamer in her own right has been magical. One of the first instances I remenber right now being Doom. We love you guys and always looking forward to your content, brings a smile to my face any time I see you upload something.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a veteran From Software player. I've platinumed sekiro, bloodborne, Dark souls, Dark souls 2, and dark souls 3. Elden Ring is difficult even for me.
This is SUCH A GREAT TWIST! As a long time souls fan who's getting everything I could ever want out of this game, it makes me so happy to hear how accessible it is to new players. The more people who can get as much enjoyment out of my favorite game as I do the better!
Its a start but it's not enough. Im a disabled gamer, so the first thing I look for is accessibility options/difficulty settings/balancing options and controller settings. Too few dev studios think about us disabled video game players when creating a gsme. I can't praise naughty dog enough for its plethora of accessibility options. Wish more studios would stop pushing the differently abled community aside
@@bencooper6983 what kind of accessibility options do you look for? I’m aware of font size, colour, contrast, and little things like that, but what would you say are the most important settings to make a game accessible?
@@HiAndHello-w9l I look for things like auto Aim sensitivities, custom difficulty options, controller settings and other sensitivities like dead zone sliders which most games do have. Other specific things for specific types of games too. Ghost of tsushima has a nice option to make the sword fighting a bit more manageable. Gives you the option to turn on a small little red light when ever an enemy goes for an attack. Since il very slow and my skill level is very low if that red blinking light wasnt an option ghost of tsushima might have been unplayable for me. Developers can't balance a game for everyone's specific needs. For example I play DL2 on hard but have to switch to medium every time I fight human enemies because their too hard for me personally. LoU2 has that covered with custom balancing options so I can balance the game myself to suit my specific needs. Its not always a deal breaker for me. For example I can just about manage metro exodus on medium difficulty. Metro has almost no accessibility options

I just want to have fun it’s sad when inaccessibility come in the way of it
The best thing about all the “easy mode” options is that the game will still find ways to kick your ass even when you are over leveled and using every exploit. Anyway, hilarious and awesome review!

I only play souls games with a friend. Playing alone I just don't have the patience for them. The more I die, the more reckless and rushed I get, which is the opposite of what you need to so. Being able to hand off the controller after I die keeps it fun.

@@ॐIo I'm glad not having Bloodborne 2, because I remember what happened when they made a Dark Souls 2. From Software does so much better when they make new IPs, instead of sequels to old ones.
@@ॐIo Well, then, in the "Sequels to old things" category, we have a 1/2 success rate. In the "Make new things" category, we have Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, 5/5 and all of them are great. One of the main reasons they're great is because Miyazaki is very passionate about making these games, and he himself has stated he prefers making new things over sequels. And, the lore is pretty much *the thing* that makes a sequel a sequel. One could say the same of Dark Souls as being a Demon's Souls 2, apart from the lore.
@@ॐIo I definitely agree about something more fast-paced, but I am of the mind that Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring can be a bit too fast at times. Personally, I'd really love to see From Soft try something in a decaying cyberpunk setting. I think that's something that could give them a *lot* of unique characters, stories, enemy/boss design, environments, and gameplay mechanics to explore and play around with.
This is easily my favorite game of all time and also, this is easily my favorite review of all, it's amazing how the two of you just keep delivering amazing content video after video
Nice to see people talk about accessibility options. It's not just for baby noobs but disabled gamers like my self who actuslly need accessibility options/custom difficulty settings/controller settings and balancing sliders to be able to enjoy the game. LoU2 has the best accessibility options I've ever seen, it made it feel so inclusive. It's sad to me that it's 2022 and still so few games are released with little to no accessibility support
Would love to know what both of your reactions were to Malenia, because she is easily the hardest boss I have ever had to fight in any game ever. Only other bosses that came close were Isshin in Sekiro and the Valkyrie Queen in God of War, and even those weren’t close!

Good, good... Now go buy the other 3 DS games... yesss....
This is something that is only made possible through the open world of the game.
er, wait till the endgame and see if your still saying that
@@joesheridan9451 I’ve beaten the game 4 times

The smaller bosses are legit easy tho. They're good for beginners who want to get a feel for the game. You'll beat them easily in 2-3 tries. It's the second half of the game where it gets harder. Even the first few main bosses aren't difficult if you use the right weapons. You cannot use same strat and expect different results that's all
@@Artaxerxes. Doesn’t mean it isn’t exciting for people who have never played the games before, or that it’s necessarily super easy for everyone!

There is an easy mode in Sekiro, it’s called taking the lucky charm and not ringing the bell

Elden Ring is a weirdly good couple game, in my experience! I’ve lost count of the number of times my partner has texted something like “oh man you’ll never guess what I just found!”
Also, I found a really cool INT/DEX weapon that wouldn’t fit my STR/FAI build, but was absolutely perfect for my partner! It was absolutely joyous telling them “go to the ruins on the border of Limgrave and Caelid, bring a stone sword key” and then ten minutes later getting the response of “SLEEP SWORD LETS GO”
INT/DEX weapon, you say? Hmmm. Don't mind if I do.
You can even give equipment to each other when you're summoned as a cooperator! And then go on fun dungeon adventures together :)
Sleep sword you say?
Moonveil is best though, the sleep sword is fun at least.
The sleep sword is straight busted. Go have fun with it yall it's great
I’m glad Elden ring has shown people that from games are perfectly beatable.

4:22 The jellyfish's name is Aurelia! And she's wonderful! 😁
I've seen on the Steam forums people complaining about things like Spirit Ashes, saying that it's not the way the game was "meant to be played," that they make the game too easy.
So cool.
I just want to say that I am very very stoked on your heel flip. And you deserve all the praise.
"You can parry with L2... Are you serious?! I didn't know there was even a button back here!". People on the bus home from work be wondering why that's even funny. My girl also beat Margit with a jellyfish on her hundredth try and I've never been so proud of that little jellyfish hard carrying her
Me before playing: “I won’t use NPC summons, I don’t need to”
Me while playing: “C’mon Blaidd let’s gooooooo!”
(It’s less about challenge and more about fighting along side the cool people I’ve met)
>Me using mimic and dragon spells
Come on tanky me, lets spam dragon breath together brrrrrrrrr
Never thought I'd say this, but marching into battle alongside a sentient jar is pretty damn epic
@@juanpch2175 haha, Ekzyke’s Decay go *REEEEEEEEEEEE*
Lets start the festival, shall we?
Blaidd is really cool. I love him.
The perspective flip we've been waiting for
5:38 !! A Brazilian meme in GFR ??? :'D thanks guys !! You're awesome !!! ❤️ and congrats Shelby for beating your First Souls game 😃
Watching this one year later, and hundreds of hours in Elden Ring, and I just learned you can attack while on a ladder.
"Hey, put a fence up!" That got a chuckle outta me.
5:48 this part was hilarious and so relatable lol
That was an incredible intro sequence that you should both be proud of.
Loved all of this
I was eating breakfast while watching this and 1:10 had me choking on my waffles. My boyfriend actually came over to ask me if I was ok because I was laughing so hard I was crying a bit during this video.🤣
You two are underrated GENUISES and the editing is the some of the best in YT. Please keep them coming
This was so wholesome and I was smiling so much… for the first half. Then the other shoe drops. 🤣 I am cry-laughing.
Was waiting for this quite eagerly
Why did Matt banging knitting needles together, pretending to knit make me laugh so hard!? 🤣
Some of the best editing I’ve ever seen. Keep it up!
Thank you for including the best animal crossing song at the end 🙏🏽
Usually on another play through.
porra, tem ate o edu ai na edição kkkkkkkkkkkkkk amo vcs
esse canal é um poço interminável de memes bons

I enjoy DS and whatnot but at the same time, I only have so many minutes in a day lol.
Doesn't count unless you do it with codevein smh
Same here. Malenia is absolutely ridiculous.
"Oh I didn't know there was a button back here" haha instant classic
When I finally beat that bloody Tree Sentinel it was a glorious thing!
@@HiAndHello-w9l if you’re interested, Game Makers Toolkit has a really great series on different kinds of accessibility, and he also reviews games every year for what were the most/least accessible games for that year
@@bencooper6983 thanks, that’s really helpful. I hadn’t thought to deeply about those options before but they make sense when I think of it. I listened to another review of the game now that was a lot more critical an when Tom to say the gaming industry in general has a blind spot in regards to accessibility… and I’m inclined to agree there are certain game I wish I could play with my friends but can’t because the difficulty of learning curb is to steep. I just want to have fun it’s sad when inaccessibility come in the way of it
The best thing about all the “easy mode” options is that the game will still find ways to kick your ass even when you are over leveled and using every exploit.
Anyway, hilarious and awesome review!
2 years later witnessing the evolution of your channel and growth of editing and comedic interconnection is priceless. With the personal connection of marrying my gamer girlfriend and reaching wife level warms my heart. I've been waiting a month for this video. Dunkey even posted before you. All my doubts were fulfilled by my faith in your videos and seeing a role reversal. Now my girl needs to get off Sims 4 and play a mastapiece.

ah damn this reallly hit home i cryed 1 tear 4:35
This might be my fav video yet, amazing
It's good because Shelby actually just got gud at her own pace
And that's what this game is about
Got my girlfriend to play DS3 and she screamed for joy when she finally defeated Iudex Gundyr, I was so proud.
I've been gaming as long as Matt but never ventured into any of the Souls series. I'm so proud of you, Shelby. Thinking about getting Elden Ring.
To be fair some sidebosses without cutscene are harder than story bosses. In particular that damn stone sphinx cat.
I only play souls games with a friend. Playing alone I just don't have the patience for them. The more I die, the more reckless and rushed I get, which is the opposite of what you need to so. Being able to hand off the controller after I die keeps it fun.
We were the opposite! I'm the Soulsborn junkie in the house, but my surgery got delayed a few months leaving me with no working thumbs for this release. I was heartbroken.
My husband set our PC to stream on our big TV so I could enjoy the game while he played~
Tru lov
Lol this was great. Glad to hear Shelby got into the series at last. Elden Ring is a straight up masterpiece :)
Shelby: "I beat my first Dark Souls boss!"
Matt: "But was it a boss with a cutscene, though?"
The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst: *runs his thumb along Chikage's blade while whistling nonchalantly*
Nothing gives me more goosebumbs Then Video footage of a new soulsborner ....Well Done Mate
Holy shit that key and peele clip with Mat and Miyazaki was perfect. Top notch editing
I love how Matt went through the same thing I did with my Fiancee when she wanted to try Elden Ring.
Meh, I just bought a second PS5 in anticipation
This is easily my favorite game of all time and also, this is easily my favorite review of all, it's amazing how the two of you just keep delivering amazing content video after video
"Maidenless behaviour". I think we can all borrow that one. Also I'd love a supercut of Shelby playing games. Twitch stream just too long to watch.
Here to support and love! But holes for life! :) glad y’all are back
Nice to see people talk about accessibility options.
Well said, accessibility options are never a bad thing in any game because you always have the OPTION to not use them
Accessibility is for everyone! (Also, love the username. "HINGLE MCKRINGLEBERRY.")
Granted, the same goes for difficulty options. You aren't forced to choose easy mode if the option is presented to you.
Would love to know what both of your reactions were to Malenia, because she is easily the hardest boss I have ever had to fight in any game ever.
Only other bosses that came close were Isshin in Sekiro and the Valkyrie Queen in God of War, and even those weren’t close!
Switch up your strat, bleed builds and WA spamming type builds with or without a mimic can turn her into a one shot fight.
