So beautiful! I love to sing this aria myself, but will never be able to sing it as good as the Maestro himself! Pity he's no longer among us... But fortunately we have the videos and recordings!
Thank you Luciano for the wonderful memories of meeting you on that moonlit evening in May 1980. Thank you for your time. We will meet again someday across the beautiful Rainbow 🌈 Bridge.
Luciano is perfect as always. His voice is very lyric, but no doubt ... he is Radames. Nice phrasing and very nice singing. Roberto Alagna listen and learn, please

It's also available by googling Celeste Aida lyrics translation. Of course, you could use Google Translate here, too. Beautiful aria. Absolutely does not require that powerful spinto voice we associate with Corelli. Need the lyric voice here. IMHO
THE Best aria to judge everyone by is 'UNA FURTIVA LACRIMA' From Elixir Della Amore. Listen to Pav then play others and pay close attention AFTER he sing softly he rises up a crescendo, sustains and ends in a TRILL.. He utilized that aria as a 'Esercitazione le Voce', day of Concert or Opera. If he felt resounding he would drink a few oz of PURE Balsamico and More 15 min b/4 going on stage. Always had bottles from his Hometown MODENA. I know I have seen him do it and so do I.
I know it's been a long time since you posted this, but I just had to say, "How delightful!" I wonder if Caruso did the same thing? Though Pavarotti will always be my number one tenor, I love this laid back, sort of relaxed, carefully controlled, beautiful singing of Caruso. I'm not comparing because a comparison is simply not possible. If you haven't heard the 1904 remastered recording, it's quite good. By the way, common error: it's lagrima with a g. Must get some of that Modena vinegar for myself! LOL
Si dice che "Celeste Aida" sia ancora più complessa di "Nessun dorma". Per me nulla è coinvolgente come il terzo atto della Turandot. Ma il Maestro rende memorabile ogni suo pezzo.
Worthy attempt, but he doesn't stand comparison with Corelli, not by several light years. I will now listen again to the greatest of all time, to cleanse my ears, my mind, and my heart.
Corelli was the best ever. A rare voice and an incredible presence on stage. Pavarotti was outstanding, Corelli was a miracle and a gift from the Gods.
@@susaedu368 Corelli was magnificent. Who could say otherwise. Yet I would never call him the best, because listening to sing er a is subjective. I admire Corelli greatly. I equally admire Bjoerling, Pavarotti, Wunderlich and many other great singers. To say Corelli , or any other singer, is the best ever, is, in my opinion, disrespectful of other great singers. You’re entitled to your opinion but it is just that.
ROB Froeling;NO ONE CAN Luciano was the GREATEST 'SINGER' Beyond OPERA Far advanced over Caruso whom had mostly a high BARITONE Voice,Placido as well. Notice Placido when in Duet with TENORS resorts to screaming, he can't help it as he is true Baritone. When he duets with Soprano he even sing One octave LOWER than aria was written.. Andrea Bocelli has Great Voice and his upper register Close to Pav however no TRILL Nor sustain,M. Lanza great his staying power wanes, hear him Live you will KNOW.
Re Pavarotti. Yes LP was a great singer and he sings this with great skill. However, I think you are wrong about both Caruso and Domingo. They were both tenors. The difference between LP and PD is that the top of LP voice was always easier and extended. PD struggled with some of his top notes, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a tenor. PD has slightly more depth in his tone compared with LP, that's all. Caruso's voice in the latter years of his career darkened. All tenors.
@@AHalfBaritone Just don't throw Bocelli into the mix. His is a manufactured voice, created with electronics--microphones and reverb. Without amplification, you will never be able to hear him. For the obvious reason, he does not sing full operas. On the other hand, his concerts are a mix of a few simple arias and folk songs. Please, don't bring him into a discussion involving our great tenors. They have trained hard to bring the beauty of their unamplified voices to the opera stage. They never relied on body mics--were they even available until recently--and never sang into a microphone one inch from their mouths!
@@valasina2015 There is no one best tenor in any generation, as the voice type ranges from Leggiere to Helden. It is a purely subjective matter, but the most exciting tenor and operatic artist of my experience was Jon Vickers.
Better than some of his renditions, but the ending, Oh no! Listen to the shading and word-painting that Johan Botha or Helge Roswaenge bring to the aria, paying proper respect to Verdi's intentions, but they had the advantage of being able to read the music.
I agree Corelli is more suited to that particular opera, but, in terms of recordings of Celeste Aida Pavarotti's are better....take the extra volume out of the equation and Corelli doesn't bear comparison with Pavarotti, especially the young Pavarotti. it's silly to suggest otherwise...and i am a Corelli fan....he would be in my top 10 for the sheer splendor of his voice.
john m 1. Take extra volume out of equation, and you've made this an unfair argument. 2. Even if we did take volume out, Corelli would still shine through. His balance voice (lie between light and dark) is simply better than Pavarotti (in Aida and spinto/dramatic roles). Adding the diminuendo and the contest is simply over.
The consensus, public and critical is against you Kyle, but, i respect your choice and i'm sure it's sincere....i already conceded Corelli is better suited to the role....as to your second point, your not comparing like with like....Pavarotti was a 'full blown' Lyric Tenor, able to do 'other things'.....all things(voice/opera)considered, a better voice, in a completely different place to Corelli who had great top notes, volume, and a diminuendo which is no big deal.
I love Celeste Aida. It’s the benchmark for me for tenor arias. Luciano is a master. No doubt. Thank you for this clip
