I'm just learning Blender and I was trying to use the mirror modifier last night with mixed success. This morning I saw your video (already a subscriber 🙂) and now I understand it so much better! Thanks!
Thank you for this tutorial. It cleared up a couple of mysteries for me about the mirror modifier. I feel that it helped polish up my mirror modifier use. All puns intended.
Hi Justin, thanks for taking the time to make so many modifiers clearer. It's nice that you take your experience and share it with us. Thumbs up for giving us enough to get us going, enabling us to experiment further and use different modifiers to look at modeling projects differently . It motivates me to try more. Great stuff.
I would love the see the fdd modifire from 3ds Max in Blender!!! the lattice modifire needs way to much time to set up. And greate video once again, keep going :D
One suggestion, what you could do as a tutorial is bridge the gap between Sketchup and Blender, meaning to try and replicate a workflow from Sketchup to Blender, for an example similar component workflow from Sketchup that is doable in Blender.
This was exactly what I was looking for. I just started using Blender followed a few tutorials and learned some, but the mirror with the EMPTY works great! Do you have to leave that add on as I want to add another mesh in between. Thanks!
@@TheCGEssentials I was able to figure out what I was trying to do. Thank you for replying so quickly. I'm enjoying your tutorials you have another subscriber.
Hi im trying to flip an object around, a human ear i made into looking like Mr Spock's ear. I followed you directions but the ear isnt fliping aorund the way it should. could you help me at all online?
Is it possible to seperate a mirrored object? I have a character and on both sides it has an object attached to it that is obviously the same because of the mirror mod. I seperated both object from the character but now if I adjust one object it makes changes to the other object as well and I don't want that. Is there a way to seperate them? If I click P and seperate by selection it doesn't work.
how do you mirror if your object isn't facing on any axis?? I have my transform orientation set to Normal but it still tries to mirror on one of the Axis
how do i make the 2nd arm stick to me base when i moddeled an arm using a mirror and want it to attach itself correctly to the basebody without mirrorig the whole body ? :D How do do this correctly? :D
Dude i'm freaking going insane, why can't I mirror an object? I click the object, add mirror modifier, click x or y or z and nothing. It's driving me freaking nuts. Why does nothing ever work?
I tried using the mirror modifier in ver. 2.8 and 3.1 with no success. I've followed your video step by step yet I can't mirror an object. What can I be doing wrong?
Hey! Great video. I am having trouble because I have a character model that is using mirror mod. And they have on one specific feature that's Asymmetrical. I modeled it separately and wanna join them but when I do I just mirrors the added object. Any help ?
How would you apply this modifier independly to two items? I have car headlamps that can be mirrored AND a set of wheels that can also be mirrored. Both items are affected by the same modifier.
This is a nice tutorial. I do have a question though. If you were to use the mirror modifier when character modelling and animation, is it possible to merge the modifier? Is it also possible to do that before UVW wrapping and texturing?
This lost me too. I was fine up to this point, but I'm not sure how the axes are being applied if the dogs are spaced along the Y axis but that's considered mirroring along the Z axis?

Hi, your tutorials are very good but the way you talk is extremely strange. As a not native english speaker I really can't follow and understand what you say... Hi everyone! What's your favorite Blender modifier? We'll be talking about some more modifiers in the future, so let me know! :)
Boolean modifiers are great:)
after Sub-D i reckon Solidify

Boolean and Mirror are the best.
Didn't know how to move the origin like that. cheers
That one blew my mind when I figured it out - way easier way to move the origin around for sure! :)
You saved me my day thx
My vote for the craziest add-on has to be boolean. I use it a ton but mirror is definitely a strong candidate!

can you explain mirror/inset/boundary to me I've tried Everything
How can we mirror some object across some specific plane, for example make the cube mirrored based on its own one surface plane?
This is a nice tutorial. I do have a question though. If you were to use the mirror modifier when character modelling and animation, is it possible to merge the modifier? Is it also possible to do that before UVW wrapping and texturing?
Well you'd basically just apply the modifier
@@TheCGEssentials I had applied the mirror modifier beforehand, but thank you for your reply though.
i like to use bevel it is very handy and ofcourse mirror too
NICE - Bevel is great too - also saves a ton of time
can we separate the object from mirror modifier ?
Still having trouble on the mirroring part i just seem to not get it the way i want it it does not create a 2nd cube
I think my mirror modifier is broken, I select to mirror it on the x axis or whatever and it does nothing.
Great video! How do you alter just one side of a mirrored object? I can't seem to separate them.
Well you could apply the modifier then edit the geometry, but you'd lose future mirror functions
exelent

I've tried to follow everything you have done, same settings that I can see and I'm getting nothing like what I'm seeing here :(.
What about mirroring a specific part of a single model?
Well the modifier applied to the objects themselves, so generally you're going to mirror any geometry contained in the objects you apply it to
nice nice nice.....................................................!
I can’t find a up to date video for this, they changed it so now this doesn’t work
I don't think they did...
