Why didn't you mention the optional turret with 2 additional guns when talking about potential DPS with the Hornet
Love this series and looking forward to the final part 4! Some things to add on the base F7C Hornet is that by default, it comes with a storage crate in it's utility slot (on the military variant or say a Super Hornet, where the turret would go) that has 2 SCU, making it the only fighter with cargo capacity. I don't know if this is accessible yet from the outside, likely not until the Hornets get a rework or maybe with cargo refactor, whichever comes first. Given that, you can purchase either turret type in game, to allow for a S4 hardpoint, or 2xS2 hardpoints, giving it the same DPS potential as a Super Hornet in a slightly smaller package. Since you can't get the cargo container in game otherwise, it makes the ship a bit more versatile depending on what you're doing. The other two variants, Ghost and Tracker, have their own modules for their roles that are swappable, but neither functions in game yet so unless you're going for aesthetics or need a co-pilot seat, the standard Hornet is the best value IMO, objectively even to my beloved Bucc haha.
In this class, I enjoy the Bucc most, the Hornet is growing on me too and I previously owned the Talon but with the 3.15 wipe, I decided to move on due to the reworks and fragility (but it's good fun to fly). I need to try the Shrike and I had the Khartu-Al as a Talon loaner, while it's massive and fragile, the design is neat and it's mad fun to fly! The Sabre needs some TLC but as more systems come in game (stealth matters, physicalized armor, etc.) it's bound to get better and fit it's role, also a great ship to fly despite the more recent changes. I am finding myself in the Bucc the most in 3.16.
You mentioned how S4 weapons are not much better lately and I mostly agree. Though, with the 3.16.1 state of the C-788 and Distortion weapons' ability to disable ships and damage internal components, anything that has a S4 hardpoint is still valuable. A Talon or Khartu-Al could equip both C-788 and Salvation and be an excellent support ship against large/capital ships when flying with another heavy hitter (it could both melt shields and damage components at the same time) or the Bucc/Hornet can put either on their S4 point for added disabling. The C-788 is gloriously broken right now in that it can disable a Hurricane with two rounds. Cheers!
"It does have wickedly bright headlights" 🌞 🤣
you forgot the hornet can mount a size 5 gimbal in the hbox slot to replace the cargo bay, so it can mount a size 4 laser canon above the pilot. there are places in the verse where you can buy them.
The Hornet, isn't limited to 3 size 3 weapons. You can replace the cargo module with more guns. You can mount 2 size 1 guns under the nose, instead of the size 3 under the nose.
Making the Hornet very nasty in terms of damage output. It has 2 more missile rails than the Super Hornet.
Especially funny because that's the ship he's using for the b-roll. 😆
@@Dracounguis I thought it was a Super Hornet.
@@BetterThanLifeProd it is. But other than the second seat they can both have the same firepower. You can slap those extra turrets on any Hornet. I have the Hornet Ghost and can have 6 guns. Of course I have to upgrade the power plant to handle it. 😆
Before they screwed up all the weapon values, the Talon & Kar'to'al, with the size 4 guns were nice snipers. They had significant range over smaller guns
my favored saber setup is full stealth with 2 laser cannons and 2 projectile canons
Great video as always. Thanks for the work! It always gives me more ideas. Which is great.
After watching your videos so far, I made up my top 3 light fighters (all three have a different subrole):
1. 325a - it can fight decently, is cheap in real world money, functions as a very good daily driver because of all the amenities and has some cargo on top
2. Gladius - no subrole here, just the gold standard for combat; its also quite cheap in IRL money for being the best dogfighter
3. Defender - its literally the only long range/distance, multi-crew fighter; I do consider this ship cheap because its the only fighter that can travel long distances, carry a person and offers space for boxes, weapons and has two beds... all other ships in that price range cant compete with that
Another point about the Talon's weird durability is that losing a wing makes the ship nearly impossible to control and they tend to take the bulk of incoming fire
Why didn't you mention the dorsal turret when talking about potential DPS with the Hornet?
I was wondering the same thing. Lets you add an additional s4 gun up there, doesn't it?
Aren't the hornet and super-hornet technically Medium Fighters though?
Still wishing you'd included the Origin 85X in the comparisons :D
I thought that.
Yeah but I think people just consider all dedicated small size fighters light fighters
I'm thinking the same things about the Sabre, isn't that also a medium fighter.
@@trenwilson6613 Nah Sabre is a (Light) Stealth Fighter technically. Was originally advertised to sound heavier and tougher.
Hornet and Sabre are both Medium Fighters, yes, Sabre specializing it stealth tho
Kinda insane that you can make FOUR videos out of just one category.
Like.... That's a lot of light fighters, CIG.
Is the buccaneer glare still fairly annoying?
Just wondering are you reading from a spreadsheet? Khartu-al has equal acceleration to the M-50. That thing is a rocket!
No part 4? looking for that one want to get a ship from it
The Talons are very fragile. If you lose ONE wing you have lost all control and are spinning with no hope of recovery. And I have noticed that my power plant seems to get shot out quite frequently. And then you're just sitting there with no power waiting to die.
Neat series but why are you including medium fighters in in?
Made it into the video in the chat, yay!
Great. Thanks for doing these.
I get the feeling you don't actually fly the Hornet.
Everyone who does fly it knows you can mount a turret that gives you identical firepower to the Super Hornet, in a smaller footprint.
So the DPS numbers are much higher than you stated.
Also the weapons loadout is very customizable - 3xs3 plus s4, 3xs3 plus 2xs2, 2xs3 plus 2xs2 plus 2xs1, etc...
Great video . Thanks.
Also stealth is broken right now, components won't help
I get that your not a fan of the Reliant Tana and that's fine. Like most, I'm still sour about its flight performance and durability vs. size. Respectfully it should be noted the 6 size 2 laser repeaters has an excellent 663 dps. This ship should never be used without the dual Toshima turret load-out especially with a copilot. Giving the Tana the best defensive/offensive coverage challenged by none but that's off topic.
Confused why you didn't mention the hornet turret, also I think the 2nd seat on the super can use the missile operator mode although I'm not sure
Star Citizen is by far the best game that will never happen.
Kartu Al has awesome, alien engine sounds. Other than that, I couldn't stand it.
Oh, and you forgot to mention the 2nd seat. Wait. Never mind.
I am assuming the Talons' display-based cockpit will be a major disadvantage if the ship is exposed to distortion damage, or if power systems are damaged directly. Lights out.
You are combining light and medium fighters. Hornet, Sabre, Defender, Glaive are all medium fighters and they all underperform because CIG has medium fighters in a crappy spot and have had them there for a while now. They keep claiming they are going to introduce things to make them better, but refuse to say what and we have yet to see squat that has aided them. Supposedly capacitors were supposed to make medium fighters more appealing, but they haven't done a thing to help medium fighters, they have only made turret op in Chriss hope of getting more players into them. Capacitor gameplay is nothing more than Chris installing completely illogical mechanics because he wants manned turret gameplay despite the vast majority of players not wanting it or are indifferent to it. Until CIG gives medium fighters some love nobody should waste money on them, and just buy CIG golden child the Gladius.
