This is awesome. Hope to see an 8 string video too.
Just get a bass😂
@@Durkheadno
Tbh you can play exactly the same riffs on 8 it will just be lower. I'm learning 90% of songs on my 8, regardless if they are drop c, b,f, just hit the same frets it will be different key, either lower or higher.
@@aeroxpre ua-cam.com/users/shortsOLEX_g_kx6s?si=y4xpJo-bvLSDxJ_P
I would love that.

1:53 Down From The Sky by Trivium
2:11 Lost In The Static by After The Burial
2:26 The River Dragon Has Come by Nevermore
2:47 Freak On A Leash by Korn
3:22 Recreant by Chelsea Grin
3:45 Wormholes by Volumes

4:44 The Saw Is The Law by Whitechapel
Thanks mate
@@killrich7155 You're welcome 😎
As a 41yr old grunge\hardcore\ metal guitar guy, and also a big fan of the blues, jazz soul...I do love prog stuff, but the term "drop G" just fried my brain.😆
Bro. 😎
dimebag used drop G in a few songs :)
@@hawnz. What?! Which songs? Never heard of those
@@stttrmThe Underground In America
My first time in Drop A really opened up my mind to possibilities on guitar.
Would love to see more tuning specific videos such as top 10 drop g riffs etc. (including newer songs)
Alpha Wolf, Knocked Loose, Whitechapel, Chelsea Grin, Any Given Day, Wage War, Fit For An Autopsy, Born Of Osiris, Signs Of The Swarm, Lorna Shore, Volumes and many others
church of execution by fear factory, invisible wounds by fear factory, brujerizmo by brujeria, sida de la mente by brujeria
Literally just picked up my first 7-String, a Jackson JS22-7. Started with some Jesu and Strapping Young Lad. Gonna give these riffs a go!
How is it? Iv been lookin at getting one. Any problems with it
@@Durkhead I love it so far - really solid, great neck action and a tone that could flatten a house. It's my first so no real frame of reference beyond my existing six strings. But it's great so far 😄
I'm picking up a 7 string in a couple of months for my 20th birthday in December.
Have you tuned it low yet? What range are you playing with?
@@bringbacktradition6470 drop-B's been my lowest so far, but normally I'm tuned Drop-A or Open-C - and just a standard string range.
Currently have an 8 string in F standard and having so much fun with After the Burial. They haven't made a single bad song I swear
Down from the sky is my go to song for trying out a 7 string!
I'd like to add on that Whitechapel has some other banger easy 7 string riffs, my favorite of which is def "I, Dementia". Diminished key Crazy Train on a 7 string?? Hell yeah
I can’t unhear that now thanks
*Mind blown*
Such a killer song to play, so fun. Also I made that song association too, and sometimes I messes up my accenting of the notes because I start thinking about Crazy Train 💀
For me that album is peak Whitechapel!
The first one (A change of season) also sounds kinda like “Ride the Lightning but it’s djent” which is kinda sus 😅
That freak on a leash, wormholes and icarus lives riff was goddamn nostalgic. Those riffs made me wanna play my 7-string Ibanez again and get a Ibanez K5 bass
Periphery is so great. Glad PRS made a Mark model.
You also included Dream Theater, a band who showed me 7 string riffs could be heavy (in B standard). And I was pleased to hear "The Saw in the Law".
Is that the top model like his actual signature guitar or it’s a production model that’s cheaper ?
@@willvaughn6.395, he says what it is in the first 30 seconds.
they dont sell core models of marks signatures theyre all PRS SE but they come with his signature pickups and he plays the SE models all the time on stage and in videos ETC. he has a couple of core models but from what i understand they were prototypes and never went into mass production. So to answer your question yes it is his signature model and its the highest quality they sell for his model. i have one of the original Seven string ones from the first version they did and its an incredible guitar i could not be more happy with it @willvaughn6.395
I have that 7 string, and it's such a high quality instrument. The fit and finish were great out of the box and those pickups are awesome.
This is a great video there is a huge market for helping new 7 string players understand whats going on.
you should put a Fear Factory Riff, any from Demanufacture, Obsolete or Mechanize BTW awesome list man, great riffs
Descent and Scumgrief are so, so, so heavy and easy to play :)
MORBID ANGEL
I will never forget the first time I heard Icarus Lives. It was one of the lowest sounding riffs Id heard at the time, and it still sounds so sick (probably whatever tone magic Misha worked on it). Lost In The Static is a great pick too, although my personal fave from that album is COLLAPSE
always appreciate the love for volumes!!
I cant believe you didnt include morbid angel, where the slime live! Its like the stairway to heaven of 7 string riffs
One of my favourite 7S riffs is Did My Time by Korn. Easy and fun to play imo.
Just bought the old PRS SE Mark Holcomb SVN with Alpha/Omega pickups. The guitars feels so comfortable even though it has a marginally thicker than my Ibanez.
Jesus. My boy gets a new guitar every video he makes. I'm jealous AF. another great video Bane man. 🤘
I’ve not heard Change Of Seasons in years… I know what I’m listening to on the work commute tomorrow!
Awesome video! 🤘🏼
Just recently got my first 7. A change of seasons was the reason I wanted a 7 😅😂. So many different parts but overall not too hard for a Petrucci song. Love Petrucci and DT
Recreant was one of my first 7 String riffs way back then !
Thanks for the fun videos !
Was hoping to see some fear factory
Im picking up a jackson JS22-7 as my first but i do plan to build it
HELL YEAH! Somehow I knew Down From the Sky would be in there. Shogun is the album that got me into 7 strings and that was the first song I learned on a 7. A great song to get introduced to 7 strings. All great riffs in this video!
Same! Was such a monumental album for me and so many of my friends when it dropped
shogun is the first song i played on my seven string. such a classic
@@prettyviolence The title track?! Damn. That's ambitious for a first 7-string strong 😅 You are stronger than I!
@@onetakehoovie5955 It's between Shogun and Ascendancy for my favorite Trivium album for SURE!
@@chrissgardiner haha! Just the first verse riff. Never got around to learning the whole song. I quickly switched to Bb standard and started playing Itcotd and tsats songs. I’m on a quest to learn as many trivium songs as i can on guitar
good stuff man!! i just made the jump to an 8 string. so maybe a '8 string riffs for dummies' soon?
👉🏼👈🏼
Dude that Iceman in the back is siiiiiick
Some damn good riffs!
i got the one before that with the alpha omega 7 string
i play bass but I would be lying if i said I didnt play this damn guitar more than i should
sounds so huge, stays in tune, clear notes, easy set up,
absolute unit for 1k
saw is the law is my favorite 7string riff for sure. I would have added "Evolution" by skyharbor, that opening riff is literally 2 different notes and it's super cool
Nice riff choices!💀🤘
Great video, thanks.
very nice bro...like that 💪
Sick riffing! I learned that I want a 7 string now!
Hell yeah! Do one for 8 string next
big help man! thnx 🙏
That's some great crispy tone
Literally just got that exact guitar and came to YT for some ideas to learn my first 7 string riffs
LETS GO BAYBEE
LOVE THAT
Loving that Change of seasons by dream theater and Static by ATB...awesome
YUSS! My favorite After the Burial song!
Great list across a huge span. Adding anything on STRUC/TURES album Divided By
I love that guitar haha i have the walnut one with the alpha/omega set
excelent choice of riffs!!
Through the trees by volumes is a ton of fun
Got this guitar a week ago. I was looking for some ideas since I don’t usually play 7 string. Thank you, PRS SE guitars are on point. My mark holcomb seven string was QC’d well.
Volumes got the fuggin love
WHERE WILL I END UP TONIIIIIIIIIIGHT
I actually just bought the 7 string one w alpha omega, I have the 6 string and love it. Been playing for 17 years and finally got my first ERG ❤
I would have expected the dark eternal night for a fun DT 7-string riff instead of a change of seasons, but i ain't mad at it!
Would like to know what strings do you use for 7 string drop G!
not my first 7 string but i did buy this specific 7 string earlier this year 😂 just the purple fade instead of blue
I always have my 7 string in Korn tuning but am wanting to try some other ones.
Valid
Same.....mine stays in "A" tuning.
@94SexyStang hell yeah dude 🌽🌽🌽
thanks andrew !!
I’m getting a part time job in the coming days while being a full time student at university so I can get my first extended range guitar. Gonna save this for later 😏
Holy shit just found this video and thank you so much for putting this out. I literally picked up a seven string specifically because of Lost In The Static from After the Burial. Between my Schecter Demon and the Digitech Drop pedal, I could not be happier. What are your thoughts on the drop pedal though instead of drop tuning? I feel like it doesn’t get enough attention for how absolutely amazing it is.
that nevermore riff hits so hard
This guitar is awesome and would be perfect if the volume knob wasn’t so close to the strings.
Wormholes is such a great song to play
great fucking list man thanks 🤘
Exactly what I need 😂
Now when I pick up my seven string, (happens to be the same mark holcomb one but from 2019) my favorite riff is probably Hexagram by Deftones. And Icarus Lives is just an ez groovy song.
Also, you’re totally missing out on those open strings in Freak on a Leash.
I was ready to be so mad if there wasn't any volumes😂 good shit
Any way to get the tabs for the A Change of Seasons riff?
Time to get that caparison AH8
A change of seasons was my first 7 string jam. ok ok, I normally just grab my 28" baritone 6, I never use the baby string anyways.
fear factory is good also.
Yooo how do you mute the 7th string as soon as you hit it thats my main problem 😢
Your discord link doesn’t work. Great video!!
I knew saw is the law was gonna be in here. Could also do sanguisugabogg's "Uningest".
Hi!! Years and years ago you posted a metal cover of rebecca black’s “person of interest” on soundcloud. If by any chance you have the audio could you repost it?? My sisters and i LOVED that cover so so so much
That guitar is sweet, I have two schechters c7s hellraiser FRS and the red reignwell cool
The Claw is The Law
That PRS is sexy, I want it as my first 7 stringer
Can you do this video again, but for an 8 string?
Did anyone else notice that carbon fiber guitar strap at 0:34?? I want one. Immediate buy.
Huh, I always thought Lost In The Static was in a 6 string Drop. The more you know!
7 string is where Paul's tone wood starts to really matter...
how u set ur eq to get that "half wah pedal " tone?? i dont know hot to explain in better
8 string next? Then 9?
Holy roller by spirit box is a pretty easy song but super cool
I knew Icarus lives and the saw is the law was gonna be here
I enjoy your style so much mad as
THE CLAW IS THE LAW!
Ever since i got my first 7 string, i cannot live without drop A, drop Ab and drop F tunings. And while i love my baritone 6's i just prefer my 7's.
Nevermore is amazing
Watching this even though I only have a 6 🥲
RIP WARREL DANE.
POV YOU JUST HAD CARCOSA COME THROUGH YOUR CITY AND ABSOLUTELY DESTROY 💯
Can you do some experiment? Buy an 8 string set, remove the 2nd and tune it EADGBEA..or maybe CFA#D#GCF, whatever tension works. And maybe drop the 7th sting to drop D or drop A# something. Im curious.
How do you make the single string low notes sound so big? They sound very weak when I do it (compared to say drop c power chords).
Is upping the compression? Bass? Somethhing else?
F*#k yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah. i was scouring the internet yesterday for a VR headset... ended up buying a 7-string.... i have a guitar addiction. just nice to know im not alone haha
I nearly quit when I heard "POV".
Lucky I like you.
Dream theater definitely took inspiration from Burzum - war on the first riff, cause that's the same riff just different guitars !!
Reminds me more of “Ride the lightning” 😅
Give it a listen and come back to me, it's literally the same intro in War by Burzum, note for note
I was hoping to hit drop F# cause i play c# for 10 year's and love the tuning though drop G might be where i rest for 7s as well. You thinks F# is fine for this Scale length?
Hurt You, or really any riff from spiritbox
What's the best gauge strings for a 24.5" scale 7 string please? Cheers
Hello Andrew, awsome video as always. I had one question, do you learn songs/ riffs by ear or do you use tabs?
Thank you for this video , I wan't to buy my first 7 strings for doing some evil shit like this😈🤝
Top 7 Drop G# Riffs?
A video about typical big 7-string-chords for metal would be nice. Or maybe I am too naive here
