PRS should make a CE 22 with the same neck, maybe even a hardtail.

I agree! I’m not a huge fan of the 24, it sounds too thin/bright for me, but the 22 sounds more like a traditional humbucking guitar such as a Les Paul. So that would be what I would prefer.

As Phil McKnight says, if the reviewer's guitar is super awesome but then you get one that's terrible, tell them. Because they're then setting the expectation that the model is awesome.

The thing that brought me to this channel was I've never heard someone blend the smooth Eric Johnson and John Mayer styles together so well and then mix in licks from all the jazz masters, but what keeps me coming back is not just that but the guitar and gear reviews, and the solid tidbits of knowledge for improving.

@@emelle1283 typically players who enjoy single coils will say that split hums just "don't sound like singles" and rather are just a thinner sounding pickup with some more top end. Which doesn't mean they're bad, they're just often not the cup of tea of single coil players.

A key guitar in my armoury, brilliant for ethereal softer stuff. So many option for getting both in one guitar though. I also have a epiphone les Paul custom pro and that also splits the coils so can be clear and glassy and then pop the switch to give humbucker power. My ultimate is a strat HSS, covers all bases true single coil and humbucker. The PRS is great though. I'm of the belief, that if I set up one of the new Amazon Squires that they just came out with for around $119. With good strings and a Roland Cube, Mr. Cordy could pull off quite a ruckus with it, very easily. Does that make me want an Amazon Squire? No, no it doesn't.
His playing has evolved quite nicely just over the last couple months I've noticed. Less endless noodling and an effort to simplify and condense most playing spots. Less is always more, if you convey the same message effectively. The kid is get'n hot. Maybe the key to life is efficiency, not who can play the most notes the fastest. Keef seems to think so.

Complaining about a guitar's design is pointless when so many brands exist is just silly. I don't work for PRS, I'm not a PRS Artist and I only have one PRS guitar. Overall I'm so glad PRS made a guitar that's more affordable for the masses ! As primarily a strat player, I can see where it might take getting used to. You made it sound like a million bucks John ! p.s....did you find that one know had less resistance than the other ? Hi :)
There was one point, which really caught my attention "if I was running a guitar company, I probably would make sure that guitars that goes out for people to review weren't crap".
And that is exactly, what I think is really happening...only those in reviews aren't crap.
In the past I owned 2 PRS SEs, but Korean ones and those were superb for the money.
Nowdays anytime I pickup any PRS SE in the local store, those are definitelly crap. Frets sticking out, necks bent so badly that strings were 5-10mm away from frets, tuners felt like made of tin and overall the sounds was really really uninspiring - so I assume the wood is very quickly dried out, therefore not only there are problems mentiones earlier, but also is sounds really dull.
I wouldn't buy PRS SE in this day and age...
Additional question: don't you have problem with satin finish that it polishes out below the strings, where your right/picking hand little finger (and maybe also sometimes ring and middle) touches the wood?

I just bought the SE DGT. First one I received was the worst guitar I’ve ever had. Fretwork was a joke. Chunks missing out of the fretboard near the fret ends from poor filing work, etc, etc.. Second I received is brilliant. I think the QC consistency on the Korean models was better. But the Indonesians can make a great guitar when they want. Sending out perfect examples to reviewers on UA-cam and the gear mags is something all the companies will do. I take these reviews with a grain of salt. That said, I find JNC to be refreshingly honest and fair. And a great player too!

Almost all PRS guitars have that problem with the location of the pickup selector, IMO. If you have the trem bar in and hanging straight down (as it tends to), you have to “jump” over it to get to the pickup switch. Tough to do during a solo on the fly.

PRS tremolo systems just never quite stay in tune. I’ve owned about ten of them, mostly USA versions and I’m not a fan of that system.
If you block them they are great guitars.
Also I agree about the placement of the pickup switch. PRS just has always been slightly off on control placements for me personally.

I think typically that's either a nut issue or one of the 6 screws isn't lined up properly. If someone's adjusted it, they're tough to get just right. But great when they are.

Yeah I’ve done every adjustment possible including adding roller nuts, bone nuts, etc. It’s not that they go dramatically out of tune in my experience.
They are fine with light tremolo work, but then you bend a g or a b string and they go slightly flat until you wiggle the tremolo again. Just very annoying even though it’s a slight change in pitch.

It's unfair. SE series known to be called "student edition" because it's budget aka cheap. But you compare it with Yamaha Pacifica twice more expensive in different price category. It's like criticising some budget Chinese noname android in front of iPhone Pro. You have to compare it at least with mid-range of Gretsches or Epiphones.

for me , thats the limit , i am not going to spend more the 500 euro on a guitar , and in these days you can buy a good guitar for that kinda off money ,

    • @shawnmcginnis2508
      @shawnmcginnis2508 17 днів тому +1

I understand that, and you are right there are some great guitars out there for around 500. This one being one of them I think based on my test play of one. That said though I also have a Core Custom 24... I did not buy it new because um yeah that's a lot of cash. That said it's a 2017 and there is not another guitar in my stable that plays as good. Some are close and but yeah. Is it worth the extra money... probably not as none of my guitars are lacking, but you can feel it is a step above. I'd love to say a $500-850 SE is just as good, and they are great guitars, but dangit, there is a difference.
