Yes, that is the default missing value. It should be treated as such in the analysis. I haven't used pspp very much, so verify that it is being treated as missing data.

How to change value labels in variables view which earlier they are shown as 'None' but I want to change from None to, let say, "1 = male & 2 = female". How? Because... I tried it but nothing has changed. It supposed to be 1 or 2 when I saw on the Data View side.

You can add or change value labels in variable view. Click on the cell where the variable row and the value labels column intersect.

Carefully use find and replace in excel and match entire cell contents or use the data import wizard in SPSS.

It sounds like your driver and system are running on different bit platforms. You should get on touch with IBM support for a solution to this.

Try it at your own risk, but if I recall correctly, the variable didn't import. ? Is an illegal character in an SPSS variable name.
