I've been playing bass for 50 years now and I must tip my hat to you. Fantastic execution. It's players like you who keep me practicing and improving. Keep posting. I'm listening.
Most bass videos bore me so bad, but i could watch yours all day long. Love that Rickenbacher bass, love its tone and love your playing. Another thumbs up on this one. 👍
Chuck Rainey, a name few know, but should. On so many hit records. I listened to his bass line on this song, tried to play along, finally gave up. Looked for a cover, and found yours. Now I see why i couldn't follow along . lol. Phenomenal playing as usual.
that was the deepest and coolest groove i’ve ever heard for a very very long time.. hope you do Steely Dan cover more often.. coz their music is out of this world.. and your bass playing is the same too.. luvyaman..
OUTSTANDING!!! Excellent technique and that Rick is not only sounding fantastic, it looks fantastic!!! I've always like the Rick's, even though many people hate them.
Man, listening to you play reminds me why playing the bass is so fun. I sometimes just listen to your stuff instead of the original songs, they're that good. Thanks for inspiring this novice!
I liked them apples. Love the tone of that replacement pickup. You should have had the toggle switch installed. It's always good to mess with people's minds and keep them guessing. Have a good one. Curtis
Thanks! much clearer cover than the other most popular one. The other guy has it so needlessly complicated and out of the box when it doesn't need to be.
So good!! And thank you for continuing those little licks at the end--I’m sure many of us were looking for specifically those notes like me-thank you🙏🇺🇸🙏
lol... had the same problem with our soundman back in the day ... great story and killer playing.God bless all that are affected by Hurricane Irma.... our prayers are with you!!!!!🙏🏻 ✌🏻
Thanks for this. I had to learn this song in a hurry, having this to refer to in addition to my own diligence cut the time in half. You are a very precise and clear player . Thanks again.
Smart scoring to alternate the two patterns on the fade. There is the odd (one) phrase where this guitar jars, but it has a beautiful rumble going on. Thanks for this cover.
Interesting! I'm not exactly sure of what you are talking about, but I will take your word for it. Thanks for watching and taking the time to add your analysis to the subject. I greatly appreciate your input. Take care, Phil.
I am just s hack bass player in church on Sunday, but like to think I have a pretty good ear. I have a similar game with our sound guy. Hehehe Anyhoo, you nailed this funky little bass line!
Thank you thank you thank you for this. Such an amazing bass line. Smooth. Funky. And damn if it isn't going to make me replay this over and over and over to figure out everything you're doing. This is one of my favorites that you've done. I just LOVE this (if you couldn't tell....)
Well done dude. As always. Chuck is an amazing bassist, He's worked with many greats. As for losing Walter, Being a huge Steely Dan fan, Crushed me. But he's a legend, Legends Never Die........ Keep the great jams coming my friend.
You know what’s so fucking cool about you Troy? Not only are you a phenomenal bass player but you take time to read the comments and reply back to your fans. That is most appreciated. You go the extra mile and thats commendable 👍👍🔥🔥
"Cool" might be a bit over the top, but I've always felt that if someone goes through the time and trouble to leave a comment, then the least I can do is respond to it. Even if the response is a simple "Thank you." So, thank you!
Troy is very good no doubt, but as for the "best bass player", I'm not so sure about that. I would put my money on Charles Berthoud, he's the best there is period.
I had to learn this way back in '98 for a band I was in, and I remember having to really work to get the feel of this one right. As usual, you make it look easy...
You are the second version of this song I have seen. I am have so many issues with the other. O am trying yours. Maybe it's the open strings? Who knows.
Love the Rick 4003s modded. Great look and sound. I have as well taken a liking to the Classic Amplification pickups and pickguardian not too long ago while modding my 4003W
I don't play any instruments but I've always loved the bass. There's something about the twang or whatever it is that makes a Ricky sound like it does. It really cool to see you play songs with nuanced bass that are hard to hear sometimes. Thanks dude your channel is very cool.
I have a number of subscribers who fit your description. People who just seem to gravitate to the sound of the bass guitar. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Take care Keith.
Another great cover Troy, can't have too much Steely can we !! The bass has a lovely low growl and high rasp through my speakers ... sounds great, almost a "live" feel to it... bit concerned about fret levelling on a new bit of kit, especially a "rick" Thoughts are with the people caught up in the hurricane and sincere admiration for the emergency services who are dealing with the aftermath.
Ok,so i have not listened to the other posts you did with the original pickup,(yet),but i think the sound you're getting here on Josie is fabulous. And the 4000 conversion/gold plastic looks fantastic. (Loved the sound guy story, too).
Hey Troy, I get what you're saying about the p/u's after relistening to Long Train Running. I think the replacement p/u sounds really Good. the Original p/u's just had that funky unique Rick sound that I think most people either love it or hate it. Me not so much. Cheers.
Troy, incredible! I never knew that song before; yet, am glad to have discovered it here in your excellent video. Your Rickenbacker sounds really 'punchy' and awesome. Even though I have written four bass method books I really enjoy watching you play bass!!
Nice work, those minor 3rds double stops were played effortlessly. Surprise to hear a Ricki sound to good for this song..no doubt there's been some modifications done...but still prefer the P bass sound...LOL
Thanks. This would be a pretty good one to do. Did you wind up buying that Electra Violin bass? I got in touch with the guy the day after the show, but he'd sold it.
TJH3113 I did. I'm going to be using it in an upcoming Elton John cover. Before I do that, I'm going to be putting a little bit of touch-up paint on primarily the back of the body, there's some paint chipping off near the bottom and a few minor imperfections that I'm going to try to cover up.
I've been playing bass for 50 years now and I must tip my hat to you. Fantastic execution. It's players like you who keep me practicing and improving. Keep posting. I'm listening.
Thank you very much for the very kind words.
You are the bass master as usual.
I rate Aja as one of the best albums from the 70's. There are no duds on it.
Thanks so much Warren.
Most bass videos bore me so bad, but i could watch yours all day long. Love that Rickenbacher bass, love its tone and love your playing. Another thumbs up on this one. 👍
Thanks for the awesome compliment.
Wow. I never noticed the amount of bass activity in this song while just listening casually. Spotless!
Yeah, there was quite a bit going on. Thanks.
Great as always!! What a fantastic, contagious jazz groove!
Many thanks!!
Fabulous. Fun to watch.
Thank you Walter!
Chuck Rainey, a name few know, but should. On so many hit records. I listened to his bass line on this song, tried to play along, finally gave up. Looked for a cover, and found yours. Now I see why i couldn't follow along . lol. Phenomenal playing as usual.
Keep at it and you’ll get it.
Rick Beatto has an interview with Chuck Rainey - talks a lot about working with Steely Dan - its really good
that was the deepest and coolest groove i’ve ever heard for a very very long time.. hope you do Steely Dan cover more often.. coz their music is out of this world.. and your bass playing is the same too.. luvyaman..
Thanks for the very kind words. I'll give it some thought.
The tone, the soul, the groove. Absolutely flawless Troy!
Thanks so much for the very kind words.
Exceptional and you make it look so easy, stopping for a coffee break!
Thanks Rob!
Troy and the Dan--the BIG BASS Dan man. Thanks for smooth-buttery basslines. And look at that fancy Rickenbacker!!
Thanks a lot Charles!!
I had to revisit this one. Never gets old.
Such a cool, smooth, bass line. Butter ...
Glad you liked it.
OUTSTANDING!!! Excellent technique and that Rick is not only sounding fantastic, it looks fantastic!!! I've always like the Rick's, even though many people hate them.
Thank you!!! I'm glad you like it... I'm not a big fan of the basses.
nice playing and great cover of this note for note. And I love the Harryhausen cyclops mask!
Thanks a lot! That one was the owner's personal mask that he sold to me. It was made by him (DeathStudios) but was long out of production.
very cool song! all of your vids are great! you inspire and teach me. Thanks for sharing !
Thank you very much for the very kind words.
Very nice, I like it! Always like that song.
Thanks a lot.
Man, listening to you play reminds me why playing the bass is so fun. I sometimes just listen to your stuff instead of the original songs, they're that good. Thanks for inspiring this novice!
Wow, thanks Anuraag!
Chuck was such a killer. Great cover Troy - glad I found it!
Definitely! Thanks!
You are the best Troy.
I go to your videos to make sure I'm playing stuff correctly.
Thanks for making the videos.
Aw, thanks for the kind words.
I was just starting to learn this song for a new set my band is working on. Saw your post and thought, ahhh thank you!
Your stuff is always spot on!
Excellent. Hope you find it helpful. Thanks.
Still my favorite bassist on you tube.
Aw, thanks so much!
I liked them apples. Love the tone of that replacement pickup. You should have had the toggle switch installed. It's always good to mess with people's minds and keep them guessing. Have a good one. Curtis

A real nice cover. I'm sure Walter would have approved. A true musical genius who will be missed.
Just amazing, thats all I can say, to play with Steely Dan? and nail it? Amazing.
Thank you.
Thanks for this. I had to learn this song in a hurry, having this to refer to in addition to my own diligence cut the time in half. You are a very precise and clear player . Thanks again.

@@TJH3113 Thankyou for your usual fidelity performance here, which i completely forgot to mention above.
Smoooooth... Thank you.
I am just s hack bass player in church on Sunday, but like to think I have a pretty good ear. I have a similar game with our sound guy. Hehehe
Anyhoo, you nailed this funky little bass line!
Imagine creating that bass part; genius level stuff, so much going on
Yes, it's a very interesting part.
@@TJH3113 Do you know how the bass part was created? Did Chuck Rainey come up with it, or did Becker and Fagen write out what they wanted him to play?
I can see it now, the Rickenbacker TJH4000 Limited Edition. Seriously good tone (it's all in the fingers you know) over a lovely song. Thanks Troy.
I'm afraid I wouldn't be a very good spokesperson for them. Thanks a lot.
Best Josie's cover on UA-cam
You think? Thanks Anthony!
Nice bass and awesome playing !!
Thank you very much Rob!!
Beautiful playing! So smooth!
Thanks.
Thank you thank you thank you for this. Such an amazing bass line. Smooth. Funky. And damn if it isn't going to make me replay this over and over and over to figure out everything you're doing. This is one of my favorites that you've done. I just LOVE this (if you couldn't tell....)

Yeah, it's tricky in parts, isn't it? Looks can be deceiving. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Troy tested and true, awesome.
Thanks Nick!
You are the second version of this song I have seen. I am have so many issues with the other. O am trying yours. Maybe it's the open strings? Who knows.

Another great cover Troy, can't have too much Steely can we !!

Thoughts are with the people caught up in the hurricane and sincere admiration for the emergency services who are dealing with the aftermath.
Thanks. Yeah, Rickenbacker has some quality control issues.
So versatile
Thanks.
Keep the Dan Covers coming! You sound great!
Thanks.
Smooooooth.

Not sure what’s more impressive...the playing or the giant monster collection
I'd say the monster collection, courtesy of DeathStudios.
Ok,so i have not listened to the other posts you did with the original pickup,(yet),but i think the sound you're getting here on Josie is fabulous. And the 4000 conversion/gold plastic looks fantastic. (Loved the sound guy story, too).
Hey! Thanks a lot.
Great rick,
Rip Walt, listening as hurricane makes way to my hone
Hope you made out alright.
What are the chances: I saw Larry Carlton last Friday night and today this pops up in my UA-cam feed. Great job!
Unbelievable. Thanks.
the "4000" conversion looks/sounds great Troy!! GREAT Tone - Love it.... Great cover on the song - love this song.
Thanks a lot. I'm glad that you liked it.

I'm the same way with my Ric, the tone selector is always on the bridge pickup!
Right on!
Another masterpiece Troy!!! Well done!! Bravo!!!!!!!!! :-)
Thank you Marvine.
Sounds great. Love the tone.
Thanks.
Superb! I just worked on this two weeks ago. Chuck Rainey is for me what Geddy is to you :)

Nice! I remember that bass from the expo. I'm trying to add some Steely Dan into my repertoire.
