i think finnish snipers should get a scoped rifle obv but they could do alternate kit with a finnish mosin and smg so you could have 2 weapons, maybe name it "white death" for maximum larp.
I don't mind having the Lahti M39 in the game for the sake of variety, but I know other people are a lot more gung-ho about historical accuracy in a game that allows you to teleport behind enemy lines by placing down a table with a radio on it.
I wouldn’t mind either. All I care about is having fun, to be honest.I didn’t mind having the StG44 in Stalingrad.
Just because a game has gameplay features doesn't mean it can't try to be historically accuracte either. After all, HLL probably wouldn't have even reached its original kickstarter goals if it wasn't for the appeal of historical accuracy in the first place.
Historical accuracy and realistic gameplay are two different topics and don't necessarily directly affect each other.

@@disadadi8958 The production of Lahti-39 kicked off properly only after the Winter War was already over. There were literally just a couple of them in use during the war. Thus it would be pretty unrealistic to give every AT guy access to a weapon that barely saw ANY action during the conflict.
Note that the SMG was never a squad leader's or an officer's weapon in the Winter War. Organizationally, it was a support weapon like the LMG. The squad leader had a rifle while the officer had a pistol. The two SMGs in the platoon were given to the most dangerous men in the outfit, the ones who were real killers. This enabled the leaders to concentrate on giving orders instead of just spraying the battlefield with bullets.
That is an interesting point but I think in the context of a video game like Hell Let Loose the best guns (most fun) should be available to squad leaders (at least in one loadout) to encourage people to play that role. But I do understand why in the real world you wouldn’t necessarily give a Suomi M/31 to officers.
You are correct, but as stated in the reply it makes sense with the game. And durining winter war especially many officers quickly took proper weapons for themselves as the pistols were useless. Though the lack of men and reinforcments also meant that the leaders had to have a weapon, just because platoon shrank down in men.
Interesting thing thought that 1941 during the Continuation war offensive phase officers were once again equipped with pistols. This led to them again taking weapons for themselves.

Great video. "Talvisota" is very good war movie imo. When comes to AT rifles, Finland used also polish wz. 35 UR AT rifle what was captured by Germans in Poland and next transfered to Finland.
But not in winter war.

@@Nacjo_Farmer There are three versions of the movie Tuntematon Sotilas (The Unknown Soldier) 1955, 1985 and 2017. The latest from 2017 is the best. They are all based on the novel by Väinö Linna.
So glad to see you make it clear that Lahti's AT-rifle was indeed very, very rare. Only two saw action, in Ladoga Karelia, if I remember correctly. Personally wouldn't include them in any "Winter War" game, if I would design one. In 1941 the situation would be different.
Also, thank you for NOT referring to the guy at 2:40 as Simo Häyhä, because (contrary to every military historian serving in Google) it's definately not him.

I hope they decide to use Finnish made/modified weapons as far as possible. Id rather not see the Finnish Rifleman class use the same M91 Mosin as the Soviets, even though they were used.
The Finns modified the mosins quite a lot, changing around the furniture and sights. Depending on which version the devs decide to use, it should be quite different to the standard m91
@@petterteignesse5486 And those changes made it to be pretty much best versio of the rifle ever made and prolly best bolt action rifle of WW2. Very reliable, durable, accurate and had spare parts all over the battlefield.

Looking forward to see a log, in the at role. Finns did use commonly birch wood logs, to stop enemy tanks from going forward or backwards and then capture the tank with grenades or molotovs.
If I wasn’t level 10 anti tank role already I’d be grinding so hard so I could get the log loadout 🪵 🤣. But I guess players have until December before the Finns are added so that’s plenty of time to make sure they have AT maxed out 😆
From what I've read (mainly the book Panssarinmurskaajat) using a log was a pre-war tactic. When used on the newer (well, not ww1 era) soviet tanks like the T 26 the log would be broken by the tanks track wheels.

I wish a game would cover specifically the continuation war period. Even if it isnt such a known underdog conflict it still would offer a wide variety of gear. Especially finnish tanks and a notable airforce
could give them panzer 4s and Russian tanks, although if its just the winter war they'll get some French Renaults, British Vickers and maybe captured russian tanks. Still be an interesting roster.
Team 17 is planning to progress through the war one year at a time. If Winter War and the battle of Danzig (1939) come out this year (2023), we could expect to see Continuation War (1941-1944) content in the game in 2025 at the earliest, possibly as late as 2028.
@@justaruztyspoon668 No panzer iv in continuation war. They were only ready for the Lapland war in Finnish service.
One of the reasons why Finnish snipers generally didn't use scopes is that they would have had the tendency to fog up in the extreme weather conditions of the war.
Kasapanos in finnish simply means "stacked charge". They were easy enough to improvise in the field by strapping tnt on a stick grenade. The factory made versions also just used a stick grenade handle and detonator.
It's super rare on the Internet to see someone use the Swede with the Swedish Mauser-variant and NOT link it to Simo Häyhä. So many people use that picture when talking about Häyhä. Cheers for that!

And really, how much more badass nickname can one even get than "The White Death"? Maybe "The Black Death"? But that's already taken and just means the bubonic plague.
You forgot to mention a great little factoid when you mentioned Molotov Coktails, The name comes from Finland. Essentially it was a jab at the soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov who claimed (propaganda) that the soviet bombers were only dropping "humanitarian food deliveries" in Finland when in reality they were incendiary clusterbombs.
The finns jokingly called the munitions "Molotov's bread baskets" and thus it needed a proper drink to go along with it and thus the name Molotov Coktail was born.
I'd like to clarify that the finns did not invent petrol bombs, it was the name that stuck because of finnish witty humor.
A nice feature of the Suomi submachine gun was that if you held it correctly, it had effectively no sway during full auto fire. This meant that one could place accurate full auto fire on target.
The trick was to use the thumb on the trigger hand to brace the flat rear end of the receiver, and absorb recoil with it instead of the shoulder stock.
Thus a sure sign of someone who knows their way around Suomis is if the thumb is on the rear of the receiver and there's just a bit of air between the shoulder and the stock.

Some of initial finnish mosins were purchased from Remington at United States. After this initial patch domestical reproduction started with various models over the years m91/24, m27, m28, m28-30, 91/27rv, m39

Simo Häyhä had 500+ kills with rifle, but he also had close combat kills of around 200 with SMG.
The kills with SMG are not listed or registered in any way, it is Simo's own rough estimate.

8:20 "finns made good use of molotov's cocktails" - it was a finnish invention under necessity, named so to go well with molotov bread basket.
The name was given by the finns, but the incendiary bottles already existed before that i think. So to my understanding finns didnt invent the Molotov cocktail, but they are universally known by the finnish name

My grandpa was medic during winter war and he used mauser during that time.

The Finns also had a large number of pattern 14 enfields and arisaka type 38s. Both would Break up the Mosin repeats
Swedish brought some Swedish BAR lmg with them in Salla front. That is a one option for machinegunner. It was used only by Swedish in Salla but it is something to think about.
The Lahti-Saloranta M/26 serves this purpose better.
I had that Talvisota movie on DVD, it was a fine movie, but it's so depressing to see it like that, when the real Winter War had crazy snow, and the year they decided to film it, there was like 0 snow...
Probably easier to film in those conditions than really heavy snow ❄️

I met Simo Häyhä in a veterans home in Hamina when I visited my grandfather. I didn't know who he was and I was put off by his appearance (exploding bullet destroyed the left side of his face). If I knew what I know now, I would have shook his hand for sure.

Haha no way, i originally asked them about adding the Winter War all the way back in 2017. Glad to see this finally happening in a proper WW2 title, as the Winter War is more often than not forgotten in WW2 videogames.
the maxims and mosins were not the same as russians had......... finns modified them to be much better and accurate, for example finnish mosins have different barrels and mechanism and the ironsights at one point came legendary as the best sights on rifle ever been. finnish maxim had higher fire rate than russian ones and better cooling system. fire rate was up to 950rpm but russian maxims were around 780rpm

10:33 would be nice that there would be scopeless rifle in sniper role too at level 3. Scopeless rifle would have better zoom with that iron sight. its not realistic but you can get moee accurate shots with iron sights
Yh I think adding a scopeless loadout would be a nice nod to Simo. Not sure how you could make it balanced if it had better ‘zoom’. Maybe instead of extra zoom make it a 1-shot kill to any part of the body.

LS-26 had the weakness of being too well done gun and that gave it the bad habit to get frequent malfuctions and had 118 parts making cleaning it hard in battle situations. So they were mostly replaced by the captured Soviet DP 27's during the war as they had no such problems and had bigger ammo capacity. KP-31 "Korsu" was made specifically to be used in bunker observation domes that is why its stock is so short so it fit through the small dome and could be operated from there. Still it never saw action in Winter War as only about 550 units were produced in late 1940 and early 1941.
Häyhä did try out a scoped rifle during the war but he did not like how it made his head to be higher than he wanted so making him easier to spot.
One thing that would be interesting. Engineers would be able to construct static machine nest (maxims) or it would be role for machine gunner
It would cool if deployable heavy machine guns were in HLL. They were supposed to be added to the game according the old roadmap but Team17 haven’t mentioned it in their new roadmap.
Biggest difference with Russian and Finn sub machineguns is the cartridge, Finns had 9mm parabellum while Russians shot 7.62X25mm Tokarev.
Before the winter war the Soviet leadership was quite disinterested in submachine guns in general. After the winter war that changed quite rapidly though and the magazine for PPSH-41 took a lot of inspiration from the drum magazines of the Suomi KP-31 although the guns themselves are quite different. The Brits also didn't really think too highly of submachine guns before the start of the war.
I was about to say that Finland also had Italian carcano rifles but looked at the dates and Finland didn't receive them until after the Winter War ended. They did use them in the Continuation War.
Fins should get logs to jam tracks on light tanks, requiring some one to unjam the log to get the tank moving
It is suchs a shame that so many WW2 games skip winter war and specially the Finnish part of it. If Finland would have lost that war, we maybe would have lost whole northern EU or current war in Ukraine could be about Russia attacking Sweden. Definitely gonna reinstall Hell Let Loose when they add the Winter war in the game.
Well Finland did loose both wars, but during winter war prevented the red army overwhelming entire country. I think they boasted "week, and we are in helsinki" or something like that

The M27 was the primary service rifle of the Finns during the winter war

DP 28 was popular enough in Finland to earn a nickname, Emma, after popular song because the magazine looks kind of a spinning record. Mauser M1916 got name Ukko-Mauser, ukko meaning an old man (or just man, it's complicated).
Also Finns named Molotov's cocktail, there's a proper recipe for them and I refuse to call other kind of petrol bombs Molotov's cocktail. Like calling a shot of vermouth martini.
It's actually DP-27. That Finnish nickname "Emma" came from a Finnish schlager hit from 1929, which was originally written by Väinö Siikaniemi. The gun's drum magazine on the top of the gun was spinning during the shooting like an old vinyl record on the gramophone.

One pistol that I don't think you mentioned is FN Browning Hi Power. Finland had around 1000 or so before the winter war and after the war Finland got other 1000 more.

historically accurate weapons and stuffs i'm fine with that, i only request that when medics revive players that player body will magically stand straight getting them killed again or maybe add a drag system, so i can atleast drag the body while in prone to a safety spot

How about making L39 as crew served weapon. It weights absolute ton so two men are required to carry it. Make it two player heavy weapon and give it special rule where it can blind or outright kill the tank driver, hence making it difficult to operate requiring team work, but if operated correctly can take out tank easy as reward.
For tanks, Finland could use Vickers 6 Ton tanks and even Renault FT 17 tanks. The Vickers would be fairly decent, but the FT 17 tanks would be very vunerable, thus i think there might have to be some rebalance of soviet AT role.
Renault tanks were dug into the ground and used as a static pillboxes. They never saw actual combat as "tanks".

i would love if they implemented deep snow in the finnish maps(not everywhere of course that it doesnt get annoying but enough to actually repesent the snow in finland that got really deep), that if u are walking in it youre slower and sink in to make the russians in a disadvantage and then have skis for the finns to fly by and do querilla attacks with the suomi kp, and molotov cocktails to use on the tanks and i really hope that the developers go to finland to look at the forests around the places that finns fought on to get a realistic feel of the forests on what they are like and maybe enjoy a cold beer in the sauna!
and the deep snow would make the tanks to use roads mainly cause they would get stuck cause thats what mainly happened in the finnish wars cause the russian border (and the forests) have trees so close to eachother and they are so thick oak that the tanks couldnt get through the forests and the snow was so deep and in the continuation war there is alot of marsh or SUO that the tanks were at a severe disadvantage
i also hope that they use experts from all the countries that they are going to implement so that it gets a realistic feel but is still fun to play

There is also older weapons at winter war, for example 64th brigade got berdan rifles from 1860ties. And some even older. One shot hunting rifles. Commander of 64th, Uno Fagernäs told soldiers who said these are lousy weapons, just take weapons from russians, and they do so at Raate road...

Finns ordered 100000 Carcano modello 38 rifles.
Finnish army didn't use Carcanos in winterwar.
And in continuation war it wasn't used by frontline troops.
Assault or automatic rifleman should have avtomat fedorov. Finns captured some of those too.
Better to have KP 31 in that position with stick magazines, while assault would get the drum magazine.

@@IronHeartGamingYT haha, yeah, "pussy" is not quite it, it's a bit hard to explain because the english vowel Y is basically the finnish vowels A and I put together, where as the finnish vowel Y is completely different and doesn't really have a counterpart in english. you can really only learn it by ear.

Finnish Army rifle is not Mosin it was "Sotilaskivääri" m/39 that was based on Mosin... and all these Rifles were made in Finland by SAKO (Suojeluskuntain Ase- ja Konepaja Oy 1921-1938) which was providing the weapons to the White Guard after the Civil War. Kind of hope the maxim is not part of the machine gunner class. Unless u can literally only fire it once it’s set up. It just feels so tacky in like battlefield games where u can carry fire that thing. I know there’s points in the game that for gameplay sake can’t be historically accurate, however people running around terminator firing a maxim would be kind of absurd to me. Would totally be down however, if it had almost an AT gun type role where u had to set it up first.
Maxim should be a fixed deployable heavy machine gun. I agree not something which can be carried around by a single soldier

The name came from the soviet foreign ministers name, who made propaganda that declared on soviet state radio that incendiary bombing runs over Finland were actually "humanitarian food deliveries", which finns sarcastically dubbed "molotovs bread baskets". And since any good meal needs a drink to go with it, the molotov cocktail was born.
The name was coined by Finns but bottles filled with flammable liquid were used against tanks prior to the Winter War. They were used in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and the Khalkhin Gol battles (May-September 1939) by Japanese troops against Soviet tanks.

But looking at the wikipedia page for the weapon, it would seem that the spaniards and japanese used them as simply gasoline in a bottle, while finns were the first to put some thought into it to make the liquid stick better and burn longer by using additives. So there's that at least 😄
Also having a look on the finnish wikipedia page, it seems that the invention of the finnish variant is credited to a captain Kuittinen of Koria Garrison, shortly before the winter war began. I think it's just a case of multiple nations inventing something independently of eachother. Like when the crossbow was invented independently on 4 different continents.
Yh and flames have been used as a weapon for centuries. Set fire to something and throw it at the enemy, usually does a good job 👍

One great source for Finnish military equipment in the first half of the 20th century is jaegerplatoon.
The only thing I fear is team17 making us have the same soviets from kursk and stalingrad in the winter war.
The way to go would be less (ams different) smgs and period accurate tanks.
And different cosmetics because of the 1943 uniform change in the soviet army.
I just hope that they don't have the nerve to put ppš-41 and IS-2s in a 1939 campaign.
Another nice addotion would be asian-like faces, because of the heavy use of siberian infantry in the conflicts (I just want to mow down mongol hordes with a Maxim MG).
Before the last two updates and the disgraceful Update 15 trailer I would have been hopeful but right now Team17 NEED to earn back the favour of the community. Trust is at an all time low because of their failings.
@@IronHeartGamingYT I am still hopeful, I mean a bad trailer doesn't mean they did everything wrong, at least I hope the trailer was bad because they had to do other stuff and rushed it.
The trailer was unprofessional garbage, which also had almost zero to do with the actual content coming with Update 15 and the last two updates were quite problematic. They have apologised and now just need to deliver some good content to win back support from players who love the game.

Just to be sure, shouldn't someone suggest them to make period accurate factions, I fear that they might seriously want to reuse the same factions in different historical contexts, and that would ruin the whole thing basically.
