I usually never post comments on UA-cam but I have to now. I know I’m late but I just finished the 112% of the game and my god it’s the absolute best thing I’ve ever played and the music is a great part of the experience. Never heard an OST so good even in the biggest production. Truly amazing job. Thanks Team Cherry and thanks Christopher Larkin.
Hollow knight has this special thing that mostly only happens in indie games. Everything is so intimate, specially the music. A big amount of the tracks use only a few instruments, and it feels very personal for that, really touches your feelings. Even thought, this game can also sound majestic, representing the shine of the divine and the glorious, frightening, as unbelievable creatures face you down, tragic, as the weight of failure and desperation consumes you, and much more. Truly a masterpiece in every aspect.
Nosk is the most ADORABLE creature in hallownest. I don't know why. But when he's running back and forth across the screen like an excited puppy it's hard not to smile.
I love how intense False Knight's theme is despite him being one of the easiest bosses in the game. I mean, he's hard compared to vengefly king and gruz mother, but that's not saying much.
@@saulmoment4008 well that's disputable. They're hard, but I'd say three hardest are Pure Vessel, Nightmare King Grimm, and Absolute Radiance. Watcher Knights are somewhere in the top 10 probably
@@goregoththedestroyer6317 I fought them with about the same things and I thought Watcher knights were extremely easy. For me, they aren't even in my top 20 hardest boss in the game.
I’ve always wondered if people like TwoSet would appreciate soundtracks like this. Like not just them, but what any classical musician would think of some of the really good osts out there.
I'm a violin player that also arranges music, and I love game OSTs. They tell so much about the world or character that the track is about. For example, the vessel leitmotif (heard in Hollow Knight, Broken Vessel, Sealed Vessel, and Pure Vessel) ties together all of these fights. 8bit music theory has a great series on the topic.
I had grinded for so many coins. Then i died twice in the Soul Sanctum. And continued to die multiple times. I didn't know how to escape at the time. I figured it out later though.
How do you even go to city of tears unprepared? That's literally the most obvious and easy place to go after getting the Mantis claw. Even quirrel recommands you to upgrade your nail before the fight with the Mantis lords.
when the Mantis Lord’s theme came on during my play though I spent a majority of the fight having Hollow Knight dance instead of fight because of how sick the sound track is and they’re all such bangers
Does that mean Grimm has a shade? Did Grimm help us defeat radiance? Would Grimm be able to contain the radiance? What would happen if he came in contact with void? Was he made by the nightmare heart like the pale king did?
I love how in 99% of action based games, there's super epic music that no one in universe is hearing, but in so many calm and relaxing games, the NPCs *are* aware of the music
@@monkeyonbuilding3236 zote is the true god in hollow knight,he created the wayward compass, fighted the radiance, and stealing 75% of his power,he sended myla to the heaven,he created quirrel,is the father of all the wyrms,he created vengeful spirit, abyss shriek and every spell in hollow knight,he created the void and the vessels, the pale king is a thing created by zote using his 0,0000001% of his power, teached to sly the nail arts, created the pantheons and a lot more of things beyond our understanding
Most of these tracks still overwhelm me with deep sorrow and nostalgic no matter how many times I've listened to them. HK is definitely at the top of my all time favorite game list.
The music for this game is so good! Thanks for putting the main ost and dlc ost in one video. I love listening while I have things to do, and it all being in one video saves me the time of starting new videos to keep listening.
I love this music so much. Thanks for uploading. My favorite is Truth, Beauty, and Hatred. Even though listening to it gives me Grey Prince Zote PTSD flashbacks but the beat is just so awesome. Both versions of Hornet's and Mantis Lords themes are amazing too. Then you have The Grimm Troupe theme. Never felt so bad ass playing a game while dodging fire balls and flaming bats. Christopher Larkin is one of the best composers I've ever heard. Wish I had talent like that. I can't wait to play Silksong. I must admit that I'm a late fan to the series, because my first impression of the game was "Cartoon bugs? I don't know about that". Then I finally got the game on sale then immediately regretted that I judged book by it's cover. I could've easily missed out on this gem. This is one of the best games I've ever played. Now I look at other indie games with a more open mind. Thank you Hollow Knight creators.
I know this is late but if you like indie platformers Celeste is perhaps the best game you will ever play except maybe this one. It is just a masterpiece.
Listening to Grimms theme during school. It just makes it slightly more intense. And 99.999% more epic. Like I’m doing math and stuff, and listening to Grimms themes.
Crystal peak theme is so underrated, it has everything from other tracks: it's dreamy with a bit of inevitability feeling to it, and has intense moments too
NKG's music will always give me flashbacks to my attempts of beating him in genereal and attempting the No-Hit, when there's no stakes tho and you fight him again for the sake of re-visiting it's a really fun fight. One of the best ones in the game along with Radiance and Sisters of Battle.
Radiance is a horrible boss. I mean, ok, the introduction, the music, the void slowly going up as she becomes increasingly desperate... That is a well done, but the actual fight itself is bad. Also, Hornet sentinel is my favorite boss.
I just noticed that Sealed Vessel it`s more dramatic version of Enter Hallownest. Our adventure starts with the second one, while the first one is our last fight. This is so beautifull T.T
It's really amazing how well the boss songs represent their bosses. (Please bear in mind that I'm not a musician, so I'm trying my best to describe what I hear using terms I learned in high school orchestra.) Hornet's theme just feels sharp, and it's a call-and-response, which fits really well with the influences over her life. I envision the Pale King as the violin, Herrah as the cello, and the bass that appears once as the Void. Dung Defender sounds like Ogrim is about to set out on an adventure and it honestly fits his cheerful character so well. It's peppy, and upbeat, and slightly medieval/baroque. Broken Vessel sounds, in my opinion, like barely restrained anger. Perhaps even righteous anger. The chimes? The bells? Whatever instrument that is, sounds almost like a rattlesnake. The cellos sound extremely precise, and yet almost loose. If I had to describe the feeling this song invokes, it would be a very specific moment where you get so angry that it's almost funny, the exact point at which you are so incandescently angry and yet somehow retain control of yourself. And yet, something in the song reminds me of Dung Defender. This, combined with the fact that the broken vessel's last action is to reach towards you, makes me think that the vessel is, in fact, a protector rather than mindlessly angry. And that the Radiance has warped that to suit her needs and killed whatever or whoever made that protective rage rise. The Mantis Lords are just as nimble and formidable as their song. The melody repeats jumps around and whenever it reaches a plateau, it repeats itself three times, each at a different pitch, each representing a sister. And by the fourth, there is either a complete dismissal of the expected repetition or a subversive twist on the melody, as befitting the fate of their brother, the fourth Mantis Lord. Nosk is an ambush predator that relies on psychological warfare, and its song entirely supports that, full of off-kilter dissonances and unnatural triplets. There's the, if I'm hearing it right, col legno and the pizzicato as well as the really, really short bow strokes to serve as uneasy background noise and rapid punctuations just to take you off guard. Sealed Vessel tells the story of, well, the sealed vessel, the Hollow Knight. A quiet, eerie beginning. A bombastic musical conflict between elements of the Radiance's theme and the Hollow Knight's theme. The vessel almost overcomes, only for the Radiance to break free suddenly. After that, the music turns slower and quieter, with less instruments, because both have consumed so much of their power trying to fight. You can feel the Hollow Knight's pain and fatigue, and how much effort it takes just to try and contain as much of the goddess as they can. Then, a rally. And then, complete silence. A reprise of the Hollow Knight's theme as you either give the vessel the noble death they deserved, or you strike at the heart of the infection yourself and let them finally, at last, live as themself. Speaking of the Radiance's theme, I have a theory. In her theme, I noticed a pattern of descending and cascading runs. Almost like sunlight beaming down to earth. It's likely that the staircase-like notes represent the Infection, or at least her domain of dreams. The runs pop up most prominently in, obviously, Radiance but also Sealed Vessel, as would be expected. There are also staggered descending runs in Nightmare King, and to a much lesser extent, the Grimm Troupe, and while the runs are not the same as the Radiance's, the two deities are siblings and their godly domains are connected, so they may be variations on the same theme. Of course, there are descending notes in just about every song, but these are the songs where it was noticeably a feature of the song and not just a convention. Also, it's my opinion that the songs connected to beings with any connection to the Void act in much the same way as waves, or perhaps even sinusoidal waves. The melodies ebb, waxing and waning, but with a trajectory in mind. It's interesting to note the flowing nature of the songs, especially with the Void Sea at the bottom of the Abyss and the undulating Void tendrils. Moreover, sinusoidal waves begin with an ascension, much like the melodies in most, if not all, of the songs connected with Void, like Hornet, Broken Vessel, or any song with a variation of the Hollow Knight theme. Of course, this isn't a perfect metaphor because the melodies are too complex to label with comparatively flat terms like ascension and descension, but it is a powerful image. Rays of light pierce down from the heavens, met by a roiling, churning darkness that rises to meet them. Much like the Dream No More or Embrace the Void endings, in fact.
@@knightofcritsandmemes2415 I'm sometimes just really impatient and I'm also listening to videos while playing but I don't want to make excuses. I also need to clear the last 3 Pantheons but my God are they annoying.

Nosk is an ok boss, but his theme is godlike (to me)

I love how intense False Knight's theme is despite him being one of the easiest bosses in the game. I mean, he's hard compared to vengefly king and gruz mother, but that's not saying much.
That's actually also Watcher knight's theme, the third hardest boss in the game, they are intense enough
@@saulmoment4008 well that's disputable. They're hard, but I'd say three hardest are Pure Vessel, Nightmare King Grimm, and Absolute Radiance. Watcher Knights are somewhere in the top 10 probably

I’ve always wondered if people like TwoSet would appreciate soundtracks like this. Like not just them, but what any classical musician would think of some of the really good osts out there.
I'm a classical musician, and despite a lot of bias against pop, I love every second of this OST, as well as those of the souls saga

Underrated comment
@@kittyvalbuena182 Radiance
It's really amazing how well the boss songs represent their bosses. (Please bear in mind that I'm not a musician, so I'm trying my best to describe what I hear using terms I learned in high school orchestra.)
Hornet's theme just feels sharp, and it's a call-and-response, which fits really well with the influences over her life.
That transistion from Soul Sanctum to Soul Master is gold.
