Glad to see you are getting on so well! I'm also currently wearing a boot (stress fracture of foot) so going through a similar time. Wishing you and Sarah the best! Stay strong
Thanks to the hospital, grocery store, transportation, pharmacy staff and many others that keep getting it done!! And thanks to the Ben Parkes of the world for giving the rest of us something to watch while we are home! Also, 10 pullups for me.
Super glad the ankle is on the mend, from the other scrapes, looks like you had a good knock! Also, thankyou so much for the appreciation of the people on the frontline. I work for Tesco, and the amount of abuse, verbal and also physical, that staff are getting at the moment, just for trying to do our job, is just awful. We have to limit purchases just to try to share what limited stock we have. Yesterday was probably the worst day I've worked in 30 years, and I spent a lot of it in tears. Today was better, and I'm hoping a good long run on Saturday will clear my head. Anyway, don't fall off the pull-up bar!
You MORE than deserve a lovely long run at the weekend. As a society we’ve become use to having what we want, when we want it and for a few idiots they can’t accept having to make a few changes to their life. Thank you though, it may be hard.. but people like you are genuinely being incredible every day.. I just hope Tesco are looking after you properly! All the best enjoy that run!! 🙌
Really pleased to hear that the injury is healing well Ben keep the positives vibes going. Hope that you and Sarah both keep safe and well. Look after yourselves and each other.
A great positive video Ben , sprained my ankle about the same time as your injury, I fell while out running with the Hashers..aged 61 work in health care . Thankyou for your kind comments . Walked 6 miles today .
Plus Ben probably learned some new things from the experience that would help him next time if (touch wood he doesn't) he ever sustains a major injury again in the future. There's a silver lining to everything
Glad you're recovering well. If there was ever a "good" time to do it then you've picked the perfect time as you shouldn't miss much, if anything, and your left leg should be super strong! Can't wait to hear how you did it too... my curiosity is in overdrive. Kudos for being awake during the op too.... don't think I could have done that!
Hi Ben, glad to hear the ankle is healing up well and you will be able to start putting a bit of weight on it soon! Best of luck to you and Sarah with the pullup and plank challenges! Cheers, Scott
Impressed that you've already had the cast replaced with a boot. Indicates good progress! I fell out on a run 6 weeks ago and broke my fibula. I was 4 weeks in a cast and on crutches. Now two weeks with the boot (no crutches) and hospital appt next Wednesday when i hope I'll lose the boot and start a tentative return to running. Still a bit of ankle swelling and soreness but getting there! Good luck with your recovery 👍
Thanks for brightening up our days in these dark times. I work in the events industry in NZ which along with Tourism and the Airlines, has been devastated by cancellations due to this terrible situation. Many of us will be losing our jobs shortly, many already have. But as runners we are a determined & resilient breed, and we'll battle through this, supporting & looking out for each other. Stay healthy & take care
So sorry to hear your situation there Malcolm.. hopefully some of these companies will see the benefits of keeping people in their jobs, so they are motivated and engaged for all the opportunity when we emerge from the other side of this. It’s true that we will support each other, remotely and face to face when that’s allowed again. All the best to you and hope your running is going well!
Thanks Ben. We need to try and stay positive, be grateful for what we have and look after those we love. We will get through this, it will just take some time. All the best mate.
My pull-up PB is 13, but i can comfortably do like 7-8. I get tested with them at school every year so i usually practise a month leading up to the test. Actually quite interested to see what progress you can do with pull-up strength :)
I was hoping for a stat breakdown of the boot also. Stack height, offset, cushioning etc. I’m watching this way after the event as I’m looking for inspiration after injuring myself. I’m delighted it all worked out.
Good news about the ankle Ben. I will be working hard to get fit at home these next few weeks. There are lots of bodyweight exercises that people can do which are really beneficial to running.
Enjoyed your videos for a while but it is more and more relevant as I tore the ligaments in left ankle this weekend so out of commission from running for a few weeks and starting to plan adventure races! Looking forward to your upcoming videos.
At the moment I can do 12 perfect form pull ups, 20 plus dodgy form. When was solely swimming several years ago I'd do multiple sets of 30+ with pretty good to dodgy form when tired. I'm a lot leaner now with less upper bulk. Pull ups are my go to, they work so many muscles, and great for swimming catch. 🏊♂️
Keep it up Ben! Will love to watch your recovery. As the marathon has been cancelled I have put myself up for a Charity Challenge that i am going to be planning over the next 8 months. I’m planning on walking from Newcastle Upon Tyne all the way down to Dover. If you have any tips of long expeditions please give me a message. Cheers!
Thanks to you I've now got a pair of New Balance 1080v10s and wow What. A. Shoe! Loving the upload schedule at the moment as this social distancing is so boring 😅. Keep up the good work 💪
It was so refreshing that you didn’t mention the stuff that is going on around nowadays. Thank you for just being your normal, usual self. Really appreciate it!
If I did 1 or 2 I'd be delighted. Upper body strength wouldn't be my strength or should that be lack of it. Like everything mental strength goes a long way in recovering. All the best
NHS, boot lol! I had one of those after my stress fracture, developed into an actual fracture during the 2017 Manchester marathon. It depends how long you will need to wear it, but Amazon has better boots (assuming you can also get it delivered). Count yourself lucky, you did not have to order your own crutches from Argos. Get well soon, it’s only a minor blip. You have got to “play the long game” as i like to tell everyone, especially at the moment.
The hospital have given me everything for free so far.. pretty great service. Only need the boot for 4 weeks.. and not 24/7. I had a aircast boot a few years ago when I had a stress fracture and it was better.. will check amazon, but think this will be fine for now as it’s not too long in it. Hope you’re all recovered now Mark!!
Pull ups (Ben) or chin-ups Sarah)? You may want to start with negative (eccentric) ones first for either exercise as this will help your progress to full on concentric contractions of the upper back or biceps. Good luck and cheering you on from Airdrie, Canada!
Great to hear your on the mend mate! Maybe time to read U Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins if you never got chance before? Very inspirational reading plus he has setbacks too! 👍🏼
Ben Parkes aww brill! Yeah I bought the book and the audiobook (for the extra content) and listened to it whilst training for the Manchester marathon. It was great company on them long training runs!
Hi Ben, I really hope all gets better soon 🙏. My father absolutely loves watching your videos and our family is really sad that we won't be able to see you at Comrades this year. Though I was thinking that since it is my dad's birthday on the 22nd of March please could you give him a shoutout (his name is Eugene Maritz and is going to be running the Comrades marathon again this year) . Thank you so much ❤️🇿🇦
Yeah.. I'd like to think a broken ankle would get fixed regardless of the timing (if needing surgery.. as not all do) But happy and relieved to get in and out today.. as now the next app is 4 weeks away and now I know the surgery is all good.. it wouldn't be a complete disaster if I never went back. (but of course I will, so long as I can and there isn't a greater need from others)
You're doing great Ben , hope everything goes really well for you and good luck with the pull up challenge 💪💪 P.s are you going to finish painting that wall🤣

Those crutches you have I’ve only seen them in europe . The ones I have go under my armpits and I asked about the euro ones and they said it was for people with like cerebral palsy . I found it strange.
Yes, that is odd! 99% of people who need crutches here would use these ones.. you sometimes see the other type, but it's rare. I guess they all do the same thing really!
Ben Parkes next week is my second follow up post surgery . It will be six weeks so I’m excited about that . A boulder took out my ankle when I was hiking
Well I broke my arm, but I have been doing chin ups for years but well done both... you have to start some wear....so just give your self a goal and stick to it!
All these steps have been the same for me so far but for some reason my scar is much longer and after removing the stitches they put me in a full cast for about another 3 weeks, am really worried 😞 any advise would really apreciate
Good time to recover now all races cancelled will you be doing London marathon in October Will the metalwork stay in forever and will yii be able to run with it in
Ben be careful with cycling! First - you start that. Next thing you add swimming for some non-load bearing exercise. Before you notice you will be doing Ironman distances. Be careful!
