  • Using a Ford Transit with the 2.5L 4-cylinder, I show you how to change the water pump that is found in many of the newer Fords such as the Fusion and Escape. No special tools required, although the job will go easier if you have a good way to hold the water pump pulley while loosening the bolts.

    Thanks for the video. This is the best I have found regarding a water pump for this gen 2.5.
    My personal hack I came up with to stop the pulley from spinning was roll up a napkin the size and shape of my pinky, stuff that in a balloon or glove, and then use that as a "chock" to give friction between the belt and pulley, while also pulling down on the tensioner.
    Also, I used a small strap to wrap around the water pump to pull on, while working a flathead on the top side. The tension from the strap helps work the bottom side out, preventing the pump from getting wedged. Hope this helps someone 🤷‍♂️

    The water pump on the 2.5L was AMAZINGLY easy!!!
    BUT, this video helped immensely!
    🍺 🍻 🍺 🍻 🍺
    It IS WORTH NOTING,
    There were 2 (two) 8mm bolts, and 1 (one) 10mm bolt. The center bolt was 10mm, and the two 'side bolts' were 8mm... this MAY NOT be typical, but it is what I found...
    ALSO, I was able to get the pulley-bolts off easily with the belt on...
    Getting them back in with the belt off, I used an extension.
    I ALSO did all of mine with the PS wheel off and the shroud removed, as i was addressing a serpentine belt issue, so this helped a bit!

    I was going to replace the water pump because I was doing other work that gave easy access to the pump.
    Thanks for the preview - I'll wait till it goes bad.

    Just did my 2010 2.5 hybrid 200,500 miles a couple of days ago. Took off the wheel and wheel well cover. There are 5-10 mm bolts and a pop out pin for the wheel well cover...pretty easy to get off. It also helps to get to the water pump and beat on it from both sides...kind of like rocking it out. AutoZone stocked it..$52.00

    never pry on tabs put channel locks around it and work it back and forth and work it out. Is the bolt on the bottom of the engine housing a drain plug for the water pump?

    The reason it took so long to get out is because you put the cylindrical portion of the WP in a bind; carefully pull straight out, don't allow get off set. To do this make sure the space under each bolt location is approx. the same.

      Lol yeah beat on the machine surface by twisting the water pump out like that I don't know to me it just doesn't seem right Just use a lot of blue silicone when you put it back on I suppose

    Has anyone tried pressurizing the cooling system to "blow" the water pump out, after the coolant is drained and the bolts are removed?

    I think mine is going out but I can't see the leak from the water pump. Is it possible it is going out and not leaking? We see no visible water leaking to the ground and also it's overheating and coolant is disappearing after filled up for a day or 2

      I would recommend performing a block test for hydrocarbons. If the test comes back positive you may have a blown headgasket or a cracked head. Do the cooling fans come on?

  • @brianpair2934

    I would have tried to use a torch to heat it before prying on it. Prying can damage the housing. Heat it then use channel locks instead of your big ass prybar

  • @jag12549
    @jag12549 4 роки тому +2

    Maybe remove the lower radiator hose first so the coolant doesn't create a seal and suction that keeps you from removing the water pump
    Also, you won't get coolant all over the subframe and drivetrain

    • @jag12549
      @jag12549 4 роки тому

      @Chris Longski actually, no it's not. Radiator drain valves are plastic and get brittle with heat. You go to remove it and it cracks or breaks or the rubber seal is junk
      You end up needing to either wait doe parts because autozone does not cArry radiator plugs
      Or just end up needing a new radiator all together

  • @zachdiaz6518
    @zachdiaz6518 Рік тому

    Im not sure you should be praying at that , and yeah should have drained all of the coolant before doing it
