    This pair of Crockett and Jones were my first pair of really nice, quality shoes. After buying them almost 20 years ago, they were in need of another resole, so I decided to clean them, widen them just a bit, and resole them with English pit-tanned Baker leather soles and heels. I wanted to put these shoes back to their original look, and I think we did a pretty good job. Time for another shoe restoration!

    Because of watching you, I just had a pair of Calvin Klein shoes restored; sole separated, heels worn. So, they were repaired, and did such an excellent job I was impressed. Got rid of the plastic soles for leather, and restored the heels.
    I got the shoes cheap, so spending what I did was well worth it. Why dispose when they can be recycled?

    It makes me feel good that you men are working on your own shoes! You know how, have all the equipment, materials, but that most precious comodity, time, it is so hard to find. All who work a trade know what you experience. Example: my brother has a remodeling business. His home needs a facelift. I helped him and shamed him into getting it done. He blows and goes and works his tail off. The last thing he wants after a long day is more of the same.

    in France we say "le cordonnier est le plus mal chaussé" translated means "the cobbler owns the worst shoes". simply because a good busy cobbler has no time to take care of their own shoes. now you treated that issue, we can't say that for you anymore. 😅 good effort you pull that in 1 day. i understand why you woke up early for that. time is money and it sends you back to the proverb i said above. i spent the last week to watch over 2 years of videos and you are very skilly bros. wish all the best to y'all. 😉

    On a related note, is it difficult for a everyday boot owner to put on new heel lifts? Taking off the old seems easy. Putting on a new one seems a bit more challenging, just make sure it’s on straight. But the difficult part seems to be the “sanding” of the lift to conform to the rest of the heel. Am I off on this?

Also if they are able to be good year welted so they would last longer? Thank you

    • @TrentonHeath
      @TrentonHeath  2 роки тому

      Hi! It depends upon what you’re doing to the uppers. Some products can take off the finish. In my opinion, I wouldn’t worry about changing them to a goodyear welt. Wear them, enjoy them, possibly resole them later on. To change them to a goodyear welt, IF they even can be…depends upon several factors…the price alone wouldn’t warrant it. You might as well enjoy these and go buy a pair of goodyear welted shoes/boots later on.

    Is it possible to over condition shoes or boots with leather cream? Is once a month too often?

    Funny that u mention British shoemaker quirks and the fact your shoes never really fit well, it's the same for me! I have only one pair of C&J similar to yours and the right foot never really fit well(a tad tight) until my cobbler did a small stretch job on one of his machines. Now they are fine but I have never had these problems with my vintage Florsheim Imperials nor my Allen Edmonds(vintage or new) go figure, as u say 'What's with the cousins overseas?' No wonder they drive on the wrong side of the road , LOL.

    Hmm... since I'm a 6%er, would that mean I get to the front of the line on resoles?

    I would like to request for you to buy a last and make a pair of shoes from scratch. I know you are not shoemakers per se; but with that in mind. I think you are capable of doing a pair and it'd be interesting to see you struggle a bit and explain what the difference is and what you find difficult in comparison to your normal cobbling work.

      Heath is a shoe maker and has made numerous dress shoes. We’ve just never done a video due to the time constraints.

    I hate to ask a silly question but when you putting in the cork material isn't there a way you could cut down some vibram to replace it. Just seems like it would be really comfortable. Just curious. Thank you.

      2 years late, cork is more comfortable and forms to your foot shape.

    When they do the blind stitch, if thats what its called, on the sole do they use glue while folding it back over the seam? Or does it just stay in place after some hammering?

    • @TrentonHeath
      @TrentonHeath  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, a small amount of glue does the trick.

    Is that whole grain mustard you put down? Lol no but seriously, what is that cork stuff? What are the benefits of using that kind of cork verses just plain ol' cork? Just got me curious. Thanks. Love the videos.

    Does a cobbler shop smell bad? Is there something you guys do to keep all the foot/shoe funk odors from all those shoes from overtaking your workspace or do you just adapt to deal with it?

    • @TrentonHeath

      Actually, it all smells of leather.
