A BAD Resole Job on These Crockett & Jones Chukka Boots | We Refurbish Them Correctly
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 січ 2020
- A customer brought this pair of Crockett and Jones chukka boots into our shop after another cobbler shop did a bad repair job. He wanted us to get them back to their original look, so that's what we did. After adding a new welt, Baker leather soles, and giving the uppers a complete makeover, these boots came out looking nice.

Here I am watching and nodding along like "ah yes, truly horrendous job by the last person, what were they thinking?" when my entire knowledge of shoes is "shoe go on foot keep toe dry"
Add steel to make work shoe
Nathan IsDying Haha...we appreciate you watching!
So true 😂 great videos though 👌
Don’t forget they have to be comfortable too. !
Nathan IsDying 😆
the owner’s gonna be confused as to why you’re giving him brand new shoes lol great restore!
I thought the same. He created a pair of new shoes.
@vachief those shoes are as fugly as can be. I woiuldn't be caught dead wearing them. they should be burned.
Or if they are a 10 to 10 1/2 D, sent to me. I'm fugly too, match made in heaven!
I bet he's also gonna be confused when he's gonna get charged more for the repair then what he bought them for new.
@vachief they're ugly as hell and they would never grow on me I would never wear those fugly ass shoes I would burn them I can't believe anybody buys them let alone pay $700 for that piece of crap
"This is the reason why you wanna bah a high quality, well-made shoe"
Very well done. Incredible restoration.
"bah" lmao 😂
I think you mean sheeww
It's just the reason.
For a minute I thought that you would say it’s hopeless since whoever did the welt done a poor job. You guys impressed me to the point that if I require a sole replacement for my shoes, I’ll send it to you! Great restore!
BCPI INVESTIGATIONS LLC. Thank you so much! We appreciate it.
Trenton & Heath Thank you sir for replying. I did submit a question below my first response about water stains on a shoe and how to remove it. Could you make a video for it? Thank you!
This 30 minute video was more enjoyable than the latest Star Wars movie......
Fully agreed!👌👌👌😌
@Brisdad53 lmfaoooo still haven't seen it
A documentary on Limburger cheese is better than that Star Wars movie.
Rey could easily do this with no training ;)
That's not a very high bar tho.
There’s something very therapeutic about watching highly skilled craftsmen at work, fantastic job.
100% agree
The problem, that you have not the heart, to step on that beautiful sole.
I've just had this video recommended and I'm so glad it was! I'm from Northampton UK where Crockett and Jones shoes are made. Our town is famous for its shoe making and we even have a shoe museum! Our soccer team is known as the "Cobblers". 😊 Your work is fantastic and so relaxing to watch. I've now subscribed so I can see more!
I have a pair of Crocket & Jones suede brogues. Had to have the soles covered in a synthetic sole because I’m old & slipped to often on the pavement. They are really beautiful though.
It's football not soccer
@@Qrtuop yes I know it is if you're British but these guys are American... 🙄
Watching you hand trim the sole with a knife before using a machine sander, has to be the most satisfying thing I’ve ever seen
yes, the click!
That lady's husband: "Babe, I didn't want a new pair, I just wanted my old ones resoled!" I wonder how long it took her to convince him these are the same ones...without seeing the video myself, I'd be skeptical too~
Absolutely top shelf craftsmanship!
medicbabe2ID thank you very much!
Until they released this video...Now the owner is bragging to everyone he meets... "You see these shoes right here!?, You're not going to believe this. Watch this video"!
Totally what I'd be doing.
Lol
@@CRL_One ... mostly true with the upper, but his foot will need a little time to settle into that new cork.
Absolutely outstanding video. Again I love the fact that there was no background music and you can hear the sounds of the crafting taking place. Extremely high-quality video and high-quality artful craftsmanship. You guys are absolutely awesome!
gregory goldbarth Thank you very much!
Oh, I so agree. I hate fill music...especially when they crank the volume. This video was very nice.
The style of letting the restoration and machine noises speak for themselves reminds me of My Mechanics channel
Exactly right. No silly music....make world of difference. Great comment.
oh yeh lets just take a moment to enjoy that....i have heard some truly horrible music that ruins the content. so thanx for that.
Those boots are stunning, I have no word to express how good they look.
I dunno how youtube decided to bring me here but I'm glad it did, all it needs is a scratch-and-sniff feature for the workshop and it'll be truly complete
i had no idea the welt was stitched on by hand. what a pleasure to watch, that was pure craftsmanship!
Shannon Perez Thank you very much!
norman potter Approximately how long does it take to hand stitch a new welt on like in this video?
Isn't it awesome? I just ordered a pair of shoes like he describes for that reason. I don't think I am going back to machine made footwear anymore.
Respect.
traderjoes yes same! there are far less women’s options available but i’m going to for quality from now on.
I don't know why as a woman who spends most of her life in sandals and vans, I'm so fascinated by the process of revitalizing men's shoes but here I am.

Me too!
Yessss
You guys are truly artists as cobblers. My cobbler retired a number of years ago and I haven't found one that can replace him. I have a pair of cowboy boots that need heels and soles, I may be sending them your way.
Who wants a customer reaction video to the likes of these shoes? I would drop my jaw to the ground.
Wow. That was more of a resurrection than a repair. Really nice work.
ncooty Thank you very much!
ncooty thank you so much for that !
RESURRECTION is the word!!
Ncooty
Definitely!!!
You made me laugh out loud, and yes that is THE perfect word!
My grandfather learned to make shoes from scratch in Germany. I never saw him make any shoes but got his tools when he passed. Neat to how they were used and for which process.
We love our cobbler. I have many shoes and boots, including hardcore hikers, hunting boots, and more recently steel toed work boots for my machine shop, and have lost count on resoles and other repairs. Rebuilt boots are like getting a brand new pair, only they fit even better and are broken in. A trade I have always had serious respect for and appreciation of!
This was one of the most terrifying don't cut yourself videos yet.
Agreed i cringed several times lol. I see that black spot on his nail, something caught him one day lol
@@kenrivers9757 hammer most probably
Idk why but this is a dream job of mine, sort of a lost art. I really love watching these videos of cobblers, so relaxing and just beauty in simple things
And UA-cam’s algorithm brought me here again after a long time. I had liked 👍 it before... and here I am watching it again. Ah Covid.....
Me too
I agree. It is very relaxing to watch and listen to.
@New Englander 1980 Bible says “seek the old paths and find rest for your soul”.
I didn't even know about what cobblers do until about a week ago, now I wish I could have gotten into it a few years ago 😆
Not sure how this ended up on my recommended video list but it was fascinating to watch a skilled craftsman apply their trade 👍
I’m not a cobbler, I enjoy working with leather and finding new ideas. I appreciate how honest you are with your customers and viewers. I really like watching.
Galvanized Stereo Thank you! We really appreciate you watching.
Inspiring!👌👌👍

Means your growing as a person.
I can’t imagine someone signing off on that pair of boots saying “yeah that’s about right”. Thankfully y’all are some cobbling wizards.
You two do a COMPLETELY OUTSTANDING job on reworking shoes. So glad my friend Adam turned me on to ya'll.
Just find watching you so relaxing and interesting im 70 now and after 50 years working at Jaguar Cars I wish I had been a Cobbler
OMG! That initial stitching!
I would have lost my shit if that "drunken style" cobbler expected me to pay for that so called "craftsmanship"...lol
You guys set the bar for the level of professionalism and excellence that should be expected and only acceptable.
Thank you!
J. AULT you’re too kind. Thank you very much!
Getting redress for a botch job like that can be pretty much impossible. I had a friend take a pair of Frye boots to a shop to have a few of the eyelets replaced with speed laces. The guy tried to “polish” the boots and completely destroyed the finish. Since he could hold the boots hostage until she paid, she didn’t have a choice but to pay him for the ruined boots.
Looks like the work of a child, to be honest.
"Develope a relationship with your local cobbler"... The last words.
Yeah, what local cobbler... right?
Oh, you'd be surprised how many are still left! Many people, even in this modern day appreciate bespoke shoes. I have a few pairs myself, and frankly, the prices for cobbled shoes over 15-20 years, even including the resoles and such, is comparative in price to getting new shoes every year or two anyway. Now, this does mean you need to maintain your shoes more, like dry and clean (as needed), wax after some use, YMMV, and get the shoes to a cobbler if parts come loose, or you damage your shoes. And well, parts will wear out, like heels or soles. You can replace only the heel, or even just the wear layer of the heel, which is much cheaper. The LARGEST benefit by far, is that the part of the shoes that feels nice and worn in (uppers) need never be replaced, and even a newly soled shoe will fit on your foot like a cozy dream. It's truly a wonder to wear cobbled shoes, and I can recommend trying to buy a pair. Doesn't have to be insane in cost either, you can get good cobbled shoes (not bespoke, though, but still hand made) down to $300-400 dollars, or maybe even less, but I'd watch out for those dipping lower than that.
If my local cobbler was this handsome and charming I would definitely develop some kind of relationship. I’d scour thrift shops for old Florsheims on the daily.
There are a few cobblers in my city and just about all are old European men. One by one they're dying or retiring. When the one I was going to closed shop I was disappointed cause he did an amazing job. Now that I'm writing this, I wonder what happened to his tools 🤔
My father was trained as a cobbler, and I now live in Northampton, home of English-made shoes, so if there's one thing I appreciate it's the craftsmanship that goes into producing works of art for the feet. You did a great job on those boots, very impressive - and I could just smell the leather as you worked. Thanks for a great video.
I really love your shoe repairs! awesome!
Seems like a little thing, but I highly appreciate that you guys edit down the volume of the video when hammering something. Love the work you guys do.
TheSevencharlie Thank you very much! We learn a little bit more each time. 😀
Wow! Just wow... That's a new level of nitpicking. You must be the guy Steve (Bedo's) refers to when he brings out his hammer.
@@rgetso Who's nitpicking. I've never even commented on Bedo's videos. This was just something that I noticed that they did and that it was appreciated. Not everyone is as toxic as it seems you are.
TheSevencharlie you guys are bothered by the hammering and bothered by the background music... 🙄 What about us who like the background music and “hammer time”?
Ricardo Gonzalez oh man! That comment just rubbed me the wrong way too. 😂
Those "before" pictures are painful to look at. But your "after" shots are beautiful! It's amazing how a shoe that looks that bad can be fixed!
KayDubs77 thank you very much! It amazes us after we finish. We like to think of it as art. Hopefully everyone will like our art. 😂
@@TrentonHeathi personally love the work that you gentlemen do and i hope that i can get a pair of Coleman Steel-Toed Work Boots resoled by y’all, because i love the attention to detail and the quality & pride that y’all have in what you do

Love these videos. You guys do amazing work.

Another great bit of work here. Thanks for posting this. Nice to see !
Unintentional ASMR, love it. I want to learn how to do this, cobbling and restoring shoes to their former glory looks like it feels so incredibly rewarding.
Thanks! We appreciate you watching. We definitely enjoy it.
SeaWing Goes to show there is still a need for the skilled trades...
The condition of those boots at the beginning was straight up criminal
But talk about learning what a skilled cobbler can do if the bones of the shoe are right... amazing!
that stitching job was terrible whoever did it the last time
Y'all are so amazing, great job
Fantastic work. Well done, fellas.
This video in particular shows, what investing a bit more upfront can give you back in the long run. Those boots were basically in ruins, but the substance was still there. You guys really brought them back to life!
Grüße aus Köln!
Tenkterian thank you very much!
Und vielen Dank!
I have watched this video three times now. It just amazes me how significantly mistreated shoes can have some serious TLC and turn them into a completely new pair of shoes. And its abundantly obvious you love what you do. Such love and passion going into each part of the process. Beautiful work.
beautiful work heath as always
Beautiful exceptional work!!
These videos gave me a new appreciation for quality shoes.
I can’t tell you how many times in my line of work I’ve had to go back and put right the lax “workmanship” of others. It’s frustrating to know there are people out there with so little pride in their work that they’d let something like that go out the door in the first place. A pair of C&J’s no less... those boots deserved better and I’m glad to see you get them properly sorted.
KD410SE thank you very much! Our dad is a retired colonel, he taught us to do it right the first time.
This was fascinating and so satisfying watching the transformation. I’ve been following your channel for a while and am in the UK. Great work. 👍🏻
Beautiful work guys. Love what you do. 😊
I'm a shoemaker from Catalonia and I think this is a great job. Congrats!
Thank you

Love these old detailed videos xxx
Beautiful job, guys! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Amazing restoration - that other cobbler is a disgrace - I have a twisted sense of humour so was laughing so much at their disgraceful work!!!
Dismas Joseph thank you very much! Yes, it was sad. Everyone definitely needs to be confident in their local cobbler.
@@normanpotter2205 Agreed! The first cobbler should call his business "No Strings Attached Shoe Repair".
@@arthurkurtz2448 That's hilarious!
There’s so much here, as a GYW shoe enthusiast I can appreciate this process all the more. It’s entertaining but also really educational. Great job finishing the uppers also, that is a part that cobblers usually seem to skimp on. The extra level of finishing you guys put into this pair was impressive.
Stunning rejuvenation! Nice work!
Just found your channel last night and I've binge watched several videos. This is so fascinating and a great learning experience on what to look for to find quality shoes and how to care for them. Whenever your sandals come back in stock I'd love to purchase a pair too!
That's definitely going to be one happy customer!
I've always loved chukka boots/shoes. These are beautiful IMHO & you guys did a superb job that is well worth the cost if you like them and have the money. The quality is top notch, so they can last a lifetime if you treat them properly. These are 10/10 hit the nail on the head "pun intended "! Must be pretty satisfying after finishing these. For Ppl that have nothing nice to say, then Plz don't say anything at all. This is a lost art that I can really appreciate and even though style is subjective, I think anything with that standard of craftsmanship should be highly acknowledged & appreciated. You guys are the REAL deal. Great work!
I would have given those shoes up for scrap and you managed to make them look brand new. That's craftsmanship!
unbelievable what a nice job. great work.
Amazing job!!! You are both artists!!!! Congratulations!!!
Great video illustrating what must be common in the life of an experienced cobbler like you guys. Most jobs go smoothly but sometimes you have to fix the mistakes and shortcuts of others. Really informative and enjoyable to watch.
