- Went up to the Shenandoah valley in Virginia to fish with @FishHawk on the south Fork Shenandoah River. The water was super clear and easy flowing, below are kayaks we saw tons of catfish and even more smallmouth bass.

Shenandoah river
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growing like a breeze
Country roads
When I was a young dude, I owned a piece of land on the North Fork, just over the bridge from Strasburg into an area called Sandy Hook - named for a long, wide bend in the river. I used to hike down a rocky hill, wade into the stream in shorts and sneakers, and catch 10"-12" smallmouth all day long. And with a great view of Signal Knob, it was a beautiful spot. There was an area where flood waters always deposited rich bottom soil, and I used to comb through that stuff for free bait - it was full of night crawlers. Those fish ate them like candy. I later got married, had kids, sold the land and moved on.. But I sure miss those days.
Great story...I grew up fishing the river as well. Rte 50 bridge and down by Woodstock.
In my 20s and early 30s I lived in Winchester, Boyce, White Post and Berryville. Had a job in Front Royal for a while. Did plenty of bank fishing, mostly between Routes 50 and 7, north of where the River forks. I THINK I fished the South Fork twice, but I'M SURE of at least once ... because I got a ticket for fishing without a license! The SAME person who told me it would be OK saw the Game Warden driving up and hollered at me to put my pole down ... so I did, not even knowing why! That Game Warden didn't even check anybody else's license ... ONLY the guy who acted guilty by throwing his pole down! Of course, I chewed my buddy out for getting me caught. It WOULD HAVE been OK ... if he hadn't told me to throw my pole down!
The things we do when we are young! I'm 65 now, and haven't fished the Shenandoah in, oh ... more than half my life ago??? (LOL!) Was nice to see it again in this video!
They put in at White House Bridge, near Luray. I fished here one time for about 18 hours. Bass fished all day then catfished till about 5 in the morning. Must have saw 200+ shooting stars that night. Shenandoah River is a special place. I live in Chattanooga now, but I'm thinking of going back this spring when the helgamites hatch.
That's my river! Been fishing the South Fork for about 50 years. Lots of good memories! When it's hot and the water is low you have to hit the deep holes for the big ones, early and late.
Living the dream John... living the dream! What a gorgeous place to fish! You will hit that 100k mark soon brother!
Had a blast fishing with you John! Gotta do it again soon :)
I love that river! Just floated it a few weeks back and did great. Glad to see you exploring up this way!
So many smallmouth ! Great video content. Glad to see you paired up with Fish Hawk. Always enjoy his vids too! He always seems to have a good attitude and demeanor (you know what I mean). I loved the musical portion, the music, the mountains and the river in such harmony. Hope there will be more content to post on this trek. RKB
So awesome to see y’all fishing together. I have learned SO MUCH from both channels. Two completely different types of fishing that I can do in Tennessee. Also, the music is awesome. Tag the songs!
Awesome video! Love that you guys had a great time! You're a true blessing John!
Love the fact the two of you are teaming up. Great fishing, guys!
Wow, nice collaboration! And a river I've actually fished as well. It is beautiful there.
Fish Hawk! Love seeing y’all UA-camrs that I watch get out together.
Gorgeous scenery, you’re truly blessed to be able to do this for a living!
Fish hawk is a cool dude. Glad y’all could fish together
John and Fishhawk ….yee haw!!!! getting it done
I lived in the Shenandoah Valley from July 1989 to December 1994 and had many a great day on the South Fork. It’s beautiful, historic and full of fish! Glad you enjoyed! I really appreciate your channel and your witness. So glad I discovered you when you went to visit Arms Family in Oklahoma.
Now you're hurting me!! When I was in the Army and stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in DC my late best friend Byron Smith and I would drive out I-66 to fish that river. It was our favorite river in the country to fish... and we fished our way all around the country!! Yes, that river is basically smallmouth heaven!! He caught one once that could have been a state record fish. He was fishing by himself that time, and didn't have a camera with him... We would float the river in canoes. Sometime I'd fish with a flyrod and sometimes with spinning gear like yours. The absolute smallmouth lure for that river (I wish you have asked before the trip so I could have told you...) is the Rapala Broken Back Minnow (they call it jointed) 4" or 6" in black and white. You'll slay the smallmouth with those!! I once caught a 2+ pound bluegill right across the river from the Front Royal Canoe Company take-out point. It literally pulled me and that canoe wherever it wanted in that river until he wore himself out!! Byron and I shared many many days of memories on the Shenandoah!! Thank you for the walk down memory lane!! And if you'd like a recommendation for another adventure - head up to the Missouri/Arkansas border area and float the White and Norfolk Rivers. That is some of the best trout fishing you could imagine... You can catch trout there like you were slaying the smallies on the Shen!! If you ever decide to try that, let me know and I'll meet you up there.
Back in the day the "Christmas Tree" Bomber was my go to lure. Wish they still made them. It was like a deep diving crank bait, but I've never had a crank bait work as well.
That was most definitely an exciting day.
The scenery was phenomenal.
Glad you boys had such a wonderful day and shared your trip with us.
There is that great music again. 🎶 got to love it. Goes well with the scenery. Beautiful river and nice guest.
This was awesome. 2 of my favorites you tubers in one video. Great content guys

Awesome great time you guys had there! Thanks for sharing!
Try the James River S of Charlottesville, between Scottsville and Howardsville. Gorgeous country, awesome smallmouth fishing.
My two favorite fishing you tubers! I am also the owner of 4 FishHawk spinners. They slay all species! John, when are you gonna sell your own baits? Haha.
Welcome to Virginia. Good smallmouth fishing and scenery. Love your videos come anytime and bring " The Hawk" too.
Great video beautiful river area. Please don’t worry about the size dude. Just getting bit and catching fish works. Big fish work their way in. Thanks again.
Awesome spot, you caught a ton of fish I lost count, seeing that big snapper was neat wasn't expecting that, had a fishing buddy with you fishing hawk seems cool, good video

I moved to TN from Virginia. I miss the Shenandoah sometimes. Checkout our national forests for some native brookies on the fly.
Holly cow that’s my home town. Fish that exact spot many times.
Do you know where they put in at? I've been trying to fish for some catfish but have been out of luck so far.
Where is this near?
@@chandlerhill641 They put in at White House Bridge. Route 211 bridge west of Luray
@@JArtMiller Awesome! Thank you so much! I've had no luck at my spots so I'll give this a try
Can you swim in that water or their snakes or any kind of Critters that might get you?
Nice surprise w/ Fish hawk... God bless you John 🙏✝️♥️🎣🏹🛶🇺🇸
My local river! Ten smallies an hour isn’t out of the ordinary on a good day. Glad you enjoyed your trip!
Edit: I’ve had my best luck this season on Nikko Hellgrammites and various craw/creature baits.
That Mountain in the background reminds me of a place called Massanutten Mountain, which is out just to the South of Route 33. It's not too far from my Hometown of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Could that be it, by any chance?
@@ronaldshank7589 It could be, I couldn’t tell if the mountain in the background had bare spots from logging or ski slopes. I was trying to figure out exactly where he was and I was thinking it’s South of my normal stretch in the Lurray and Front Royal area.
@@mnypit Oh ..ok. Thanks for letting me know.
I live in the valley where is this exact location?
I fish from a large John boat. Would I have problems floating that river?
Awesome fishing! got to love a bountiful river trip.
Looks like a blast out there! Nice catches!
Love your passion for fishing and enjoying Mother Nature

Wow! You and Fish Hawk together! That's a great combo there!
Awesome fishing! I camped in Shenandoah National Park and rafted/swam in that river many years ago. Beautiful place I wish I fished there
Beautiful river! Beautiful area!
Almost Heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah Riverrrr....
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growing like a breeze...
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mama
This is Virginia, not West Virginia. This is where the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains actually are... not in a song.
No West Virginia here.

Next time float from Shenandoah dam down to grove hill its amazing fishing on that stretch
Awesome video buddy. Great job in that kayaking tourney in Tennessee. Also what kind of person gives this video a thumbs down? Any of them as a matter of fact. You come here to see fishing videos and these are some of the best.
What a beautiful little creek!
River*
Beautiful place
In this river, I listened to the song Shenanodon River in West Virginia . That song is old l love this song thanks from somaliland bro
Dang man that’s legendary water right there. When I was first married my wife and I camped the New River river area at Bluestone SP. We had our kids with us so I couldn’t hit it like I wanted but ever since I’ve wanted to get back. This vid reminded me of it
Awesome video! I fish the same river from Elkton to Shenandoah you should give that a shot sometime.
Awesome video!!
Come to N.C to the Roanoke River and try it out....big bass!!!!
Beautiful scenery 👌
New subscriber here! Great video. I recently just started kayak fishing myself
Check out the Crescent ultralight or CK1 for an awesome throw and go kayak. I have a CK1 and it’s an incredible paddling boat.
13:25 you can literally see big ole fish swimming beside your kayak while you pull your measuring board up
fishing Luray where i Live nice bass in that river
Used to fish this river all the time. There are largemouth in it. From snorkeling in this river, they appear to be holding up in the slack waters. Swear to God, there was one spot on the backside of a bend where 5-10 big ones were always lurking.
If you ever want to come down to Eastern Kentucky for some real deal small mouth Creek fishing let me know. I'd love to get you hooked up.
I haven't been to South fork but I fish north fork by Woodstock all the time, caught my pb smallie and largemouth this year. Anyone around that wants to fish reply. Great video btw.
Neat video of the from the Shenandoah Valley, did you drive at all on the Skyline Drive?
Crouse Outdoors in Michigan does a lot of Trout fishing and smallmouth bass fishing.
I have bought some niko hellgermites, they work awesome its like Juneau or like purple great bait
Awesome video
Love seeing my region on UA-cam
Make your way on up to southern Ohio we have some beautiful creeks to explore that you may like!!
Come to west Virginia
While you are in Virginia, you should fish the Rappahannock River near Fredericksburg.
Dude, so many fish.
I ve fished that spot at the 9:00 mark. Tons of smallmouth were hitting on rooster tails
Both of ya wore them out. I'd love to fish that area too.
oh yeah its just up your alley for fishing locations
Loved the lil Bluegrass in there. Who was that? Must have left the helgies at home
Both forks of the Shenandoah can be really good. Try the New River between Redford and the Blacksburg area. Another beautiful and sometimes bountiful Virginia river
Radford- dang autocorrect
I find that i catch way more fish on small stuff,my p.b. was on the smallest rapala broke back minnow
