Shmee's FINANCIAL DISASTER - Porsche 914 Restoration Pt3 - Removing The Engine, Dash & Wiring Loom

- Well, @Shmee150 definitely bought a financial disaster, and it is our job to turn this abandoned classic car project into a brand new showroom car. This classic Porsche 914 has had a tough time with bad bodged up previous repairs and in this episode we removed the engine to fine yet more rusty misery!
Please do consider subscribing, and liking and commenting on the video..... for my sanity....
The engine came out without too much of an issue. The dashboard however, was a pain. And lets not talk about the wiring loom.....
Go check out @Shmee150

We feared the 'Hell Hole' would be a problem... seems to be the curse of the 914! I don't know anybody who could do a better job of rescuing it though, thank you guys
We are going to have nightmares about the 'Hell Hole' 😅 I wonder whatnis behind them lovely previous repairs 😂
I am looking forwards to you taking it to the Nuremberg ring for its lap!
That ain't the only nightmare of the 914.
Time to put a WRX motor in it!
“From hell hole to glory hole” looking forward to that episode!
I came here when Shmee announced that you guys would rescue this amazing 914. And I'm loving these series already! I'm definetly going to check your other video's. Great content, super interesting and I'm learning a lot!
I have a’75 914. Automobile Atlanta has been specializing in the car since ‘78. George Hussey, owner, readily shares tech advice. Also has published the 914 bible, 700 Tech Tips that is super helpful! Also 914rubber is a great resource for bits. Good luck! I’ll be watching!
Looking better already!
Looks great! Really looking forward to This One!
It makes me laugh how everybody refers to this as a financial disaster. The total cost of this full restoration is probably less money than some of the options on Tim’s Zenvo or Ferrari’s
People often don't realise how much work it is to actually do a fully nut and bolt restoration you have made it a lot more clear with this video good job so far
Love watching this, wow the complexity of stripping things out.
Great job guys
Thank you
😎😎😎👍👍👍
Nice work! A job worth doing is done right the first time, which you exemplify every time!
Incredible seeing Patches come apart one bit at a time. Gutted we couldn’t be there but really excited about the update and can’t wait to see what comes next. 👀
I love watching these guys. It’s a shame all the millions of followers who follow all these UA-camrs who’s cars these belong too don’t come across and follow too, 🤷♂️🤷♂️
I’m here, I’ve been watching Shmee’s channel for probably close to a decade at this point, this is such a cool project!

It was Colin Furze’s car restoration project that got me subscribed to this. I’ve noticed the Mr A doesn’t mention his project on his main channel - probably only the first time it was picked up. People say it’s not true but for over a year of watching his channel I’ve not seen him once plug this channel and look at the work they’ve put in it.
Brilliant- thank you
You must get great satisfaction when the cars are restored and put back together like new , great watching the progress
Nevermind the porsche, love the yellow mx5 nb at 6:18
I have a’75 914. Here in the US, 914rubber and automobile Atlanta have been excellent sources for parts. George Huss
Great video. I'll be watching to see how you handle some of the problems with the car. I have several of these cars myself and I have currently restored one into a driver and I'm debating on doing a complete restoration on another one.
Ryan, sterling job brother, me like!👌👍👊💪
Top work again Ryan
Can't imagine Shmee not sweating watching you use that special tool to extract the windscreen. Luckily no crack.
I put no pressure on the windscreen, i just pushed the tool through the sealent without touching the screen and broke the seal that way. Besides It's a readily available inexpensive windscreen ...
Patches does look like a bottomless money pit for now, but can't wait to see the final product. Love this renovation
Love watching true craftsmen at work, look forward to seeing this car back on the road along with the other UA-camrs cars. The work on Matt Armstrongs has been amazing to watch.
I must say I really like your music choices, makes watching very relaxing and enjoyable.
Good yaar very good 👍👍
Guys, I love the videos and watch them all whenever they come up. I have only one thing to suggest, change the music once in a while. There are plenty of royalty free music sites out there. I like one called Epic.
Was thinking the same!
Totally agree, the music is awful and so repetitive that i have to turn it off . Please guys sort it out. Your videos are great, the music is not.
Some of us have grown to conjoin the music with the channel
Awesome as always
Thanks for the video. Now the real work begins!
Looks like the hardest part of this whole restoration will be hooking that wiring harness back up. Props to you guys.😎👍
This Porsche might be gift.
It's for Tim's Girlfriend. They talked about that when they got it
That is absolutely fascinating to watch! I am mesmerised to be honest! I cannot wait for the next set of vlogs! 🙂😉👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
About 25 years ago a mate of mine bought a 914 but when we examined it it was an absolute death trap. He sold it to a Porsche breaker for about half what he had paid for it.
Just need a boxter s for parts to rebuild it now
Hello 👋 captain yorkshire I love watching you take the car apart its soo neat seeing how they're constructed..I love the blue color of the car.. blue is my favorite color tbh..I hope you and your dad and everyone have a wonderful blessed week ahead and I hope you have a extremely good blessed week 🙏 ahead my number one buddy 😊 captain yorkshire your the best 👌 👍.
Thanks so much David. 🙏 we all hope you are good!! I'm so glad you enjoy the videos :) I do love the blue colour too!
Do you also put the cars back together?
Great to see it being vacuumed. Would be lovely to see more restorers vacuuming as they go along, Top work.
After disassembly and repairs, how do you know or recall the steps in reverse to reassemble it?
watch the videos backwards ? :D
Yo, waking up at 5 am is crazy, but I gotta do what I gotta do to catch up on that restoration project.
Are you getting the body blasted?
So the original color of the car was not blue. Also are you guys going to send out the wiring harness out to be Restored?
Lovin the porkers and Bavarian motor works but where's cosmo
Outstanding work. The fear I would have is putting it all back together, especially that loom.
How many cars are in the building under resto?
Quite a few but there is a team of us who work on them not just Ryan and myself.
Makes you realise how many hours go into these cars, great work as always
Not sure what Tim wants or doesnt want sharing, but are the plans to restore this to OEM or OEM+ like his Cleo v6
Tim will inform everyone in due time. Patience :)
That car so needs a Boxter engine, turn it into a 916, find a crashed Boxter and see how many bit you can transfer.
Here is an idea, hire Gunther Werks to make a CF body with a tubular chassis and use the Mezger 997 GT3 RS 4.0 engine: and call it the Gunther Go-cart
Might be too expensive
Financial ruin? An intermediate service on one of his more exotic choices prob costs more.
And the % value of the service to the cars cost is?
Great video again guys. Shout out to the excellent use of Nomyn’s & The Ambientalist’s music in this video.
Nice 👍👍👍😎😎😎
It’s amazing the amount of “stuff” which needs removed and sorted just to get at the rust, and this is a very simple car. My brother has an mr2 mk1 and the similarities to this much older car are quite telling. Turn a banana into a cucumber?? Try splitting the lemon on the ladies neck.
Love the content. True craftsmen! Just a quick one... Spelling mistake in title mate! Before the grief starts 👍🏻
Legend. Thanks :)
We want disaster datsun!
This is an interesting car. Reminds me of a fiero and an x19 and an MR2.
I've been watching your channel for a long time. I was always curious if UA-cam only lets you use two songs...... Branch out and explore Ryan. There's much music to be had.
How do you keep track of all the bits. I know people use labels, bins, baggies and tags but not seem anything similar up to this point.
I cant imagine getting all that back together. Looks like a nightmare!
What’s happened to Matt armstrongs bmw
Them titles names of famous UA-camrs makes a big difference
Puzzl Arbeit👍
🤘😎🤘🚗💨🇬🇧
Glad you know where everything goes 😂
I think the auction record for a fully restored blue 914 is $625,000. It's not the rare model but I think he has a bit of margin still.
It amazes me after taking it apart piece by piece, the thoughts of putting it all back together ☝️it’s crazy
they were all left-hand drive, right? the 914?
It was mentioned in one of the previous videos in this 914 series, it was never sold in the U.K.
I knew I heard it somewhere, perhaps that was here.@@dth2brny121

Gotta ask - how do you keep track of what screw/bolt comes out of what hole? 🙂
Not meant as a criticism because I’m loving the content but do you ever finish a project? Can’t seem to find a video of finished work? Probably looking in the wrong place.
Opel manta is done. Red bmw e24 is done. Rusteration is done. Auto Alex's e30 is 2 vids off being done. These all have seperate playlists in our channel.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration I will look harder!
It might look like a folly now but these things can only appreciate in value. I don't like metallics on older cars and believe it would look better in the original Powder Blue but that's up to Shmee.
Ayup lads hope your all well happy Mother’s Day to all our amazing mums 🌹🇬🇧🙏🏻
Disassembly is easy. It’s remembering how it all goes back together that is mind boggling.
Looking forward to the repairs. I know that the stripdown is necessary, but it's not as interesting as the fabrication and welding. Best wishes - (this comment is really for the algorithm).
Wow! It’s got the RED ignition key……. guaranteed to unlock an additional 250bhp. 😂😂
some cars are like some people, beautiful from outside...
How do you know how to put everything, for example a new wiring loom or every nut and bold back where it belongs?
My eyes are always drawn to the orange BMW 3.0CS on the lift.
I really think that you need to stop saying "disaster", and instead say "Datsun." BTW, curious how that one is going!
I would have to photo everything with the phone. And label it all or no way I could remember where it goes back.
I just can’t get into these, even being a huge Porsche fan and after all this time, the 914 looks as hideous to me as when it came out so I’m going to skip this series
cant watch little shmee
