Is the 2019 Ford Shelby GT350R worth the EXTRA money compared to a GT350?

  • Опубліковано 8 чер 2019
  • The 2019 Shelby GT350 & GT350R are hitting showrooms. While the GT350 has received quite a few revisions to increase track performance, the GT350R is only slightly updated. Under the hoods of both os these Fords is the 5.2L Voodoo V-8 pumping out 526 HP at 8,250 RPM & both are mated to that slick shifting Tremec 6-speed gearbox. The big question is, " Is the GT350R worth the price difference?" Get all the info on this in-depth comparison!

Take out any mark ups, and to me it's worth it, but in real life driving, not as much difference in over all driving experience. It's worth it to me because I like having the more rare and different car and the better resale value of the GT350R is worth it alone. I see GT350 around semi often, but never a GT350R. I like the WOW factor. The carbon fiber wheels are sweet too!

Best comparison video I’ve seen between the base and R GT350.
    -
Agree with you about the touches that would have made the R more separated and special compared to the base.
In part, because of the performance oriented updates to the base model, which closed the gap with the R, I bought the 2020 base model.

At my age, I don't track cars so all that xtra performance is just not needed. Honestly, I prefer the sound of the regular GT rather than that Rice Crispees snap crackle and pop on the 350's. The 460 hp on the GT is all I need to have loads of fun driving around town and on the open road. Thanks Joe, keep em' comin'.

@1CBRDUDE Cars are depreciating assets of course, but buying something that makes you happy is an investment in your happiness which directly leads to mental happiness which directly leads to overall health and stress relief. I know so many unhappy uptight people on the verge of having a stroke that would feel a huge weight lifted getting a rush from a powerful car on a nice twisty road or the exhilaration of powerful straight-line acceleration.
Also depending on your age and driving record insurance isn't much of an issue.

Hello Raiti's Rides, from across the pond in the UK. That was a great comparison between the 350 and the 350R, so much so, that I've just hit the subscribe button. I've had my 2019 GT V8 for just under a year now (with all the options that you can get over here) and even though I've added performance parts ( Steeda H pipe, full IRS anti-hop kit etc etc) the manual gearbox just lets the car down a little bit. SO ...... GT350 with the Tremec seems to be the magic ingredient on these amazing cars!! I can tell you that the Mustangs are a breath of fresh air on the UK roads and without exception, everybody over here wants to know about the car everytime I park it up (more than the other cars I've owned like Porsche, Ferrari and Bentley!!!) Would your contacts at Walkers sell and organise export to the UK?? Keep up the great work my friend!

Good morning Joe- I’ve been trying to discover the specific differences between the 2020 GT350R and the basic 350. I know about the obvious ones: carbon fiber wheels and Cup 2 special tires. But CNBC and Autoweek put out articles about how the R has been changed for 2020: front steering knuckles, revised suspension geometry and new steering rack and recalibrated Magneride. These changes may have created a smoother ride for the R making it better with less tramlining and a much softer ride then the regular 350? Have you driven a new 20’ 350 and compared driving feel to your R? I’d be curious to know if the R has a better driving experience then the regular 350. That alone would make the increased $13k price justified in my opinion. Please advise and maybe you could test the new 2020 non R and compare the experience with your R. There really is not much out there that compares these two models in terms of driving on the street. Thanks.
